Who knew? Sending your employees home and turning your factories into morgues is GOOD for the economy!

Is it not clear at this point that there are no markets, just manipulations?
perhaps because the people who would sell are either dead or in quarantine with no internet to place trades

A word you should know re. finance - force majeure. That means the Chinese will not be able to meet the terms of the Trump trade deal because of forces beyond human control.

PLEASE listen to this presentation, the Bannon interview with General Spalding is well worth your trouble.

I give up.
I was just reading on the #Coronavirus twitter that snitches are being paid up to $3,000 to turn in supposedly sick people.

Then I saw this.

Translation:

Those who do not wear masks in China are either arrested or beaten.

Thought this interesting and applicable. I think someone has already mentioned how JIT storage was an egg ready to crack:

Hyundai, Kia Factories Crippled In South Korea As Part Suppliers In China Remain Closed

A globalized world is full of complex supply chains that wind in and out of countries. When one country goes offline, the chain breaks, and that's exactly what's happening in Asia.
Yonhap News reports that Hyundai Motor Co. and its sister Kia Motors Corp. suspended production lines in South Korea after it was hit with a parts shortage from China as the coronavirus outbreak continues to leave entire manufacturing hubs shut down.

Hyundai is expected to close four South Korean plants by Friday.
The plants are expected to reopen on Feb. 10 or 11, but that entirely depends if manufacturing plants, cities, and transportation networks open in China.
"If auto parts factories in China resume operations on Feb. 10 or 11, production losses from lack of parts will be limited," the spokesman said. However, if the factories in China where Hyundai sources parts from remain closed through early next week, then severe supply chain disruptions will be seen, causing production output to crater in South Korea.
Vice President Ha Eon-tae, head of Hyundai's main plant, emailed workers at Ulsan plants on Monday, specifying how production suspensions are imminent because part suppliers in China remain closed due to the virus.
According to the local union, Kia, which is 34% owned by Hyundai, has had output reduced in Hwaseong and Gwangju, outside of Seoul, for similar issues.
Hyundai and Kia, together, are the world's fifth-largest carmaker by sales. If production lines in South Korea are halted and extend past next week, then a slump in economic output could weigh down South Korean 1Q GDP figures.
The fallout from the virus could force investors to reprice growth across the world. This would undoubtedly weigh on risk asset prices that remain near all-time highs.

The company I work for has scheduled a all employee meeting for tomorrow, I expect part of that meeting will be going over supplier issues.

If that article above (post # 8011) is for real, it sounds like any Chinese citizen who inadvertently spread the virus to another country had better apply for asylum. China says they get the death penalty.

Kathleen
Based upon the official figures and announcements, you have a 50/50 chance on it being true or you actually getting the death penalty.

IE: if you get sick, you may die. If you tell anyone, you may get killed.

This is one heck of an incentive to keep quiet and cause more spreading of the pandemic.

Good for China! They win the dumbest thing we did award for the day.

This is but the first sign of what may come if they really plan on keeping things closed past the 8th. Some cities have said they will keep everything closed until the 18th.

I have noticed the local KIA dealer is no longer saying he made a "deal with the factory to sell 150 Kias this month"

I have to go by his place and see what the stock level looks like.....

On reflection, I hadn't realized that radio revenues would also drop as an effect of this pandemic.....cr*p! Something else to ponder..

Am wondering how long it will take for Walmart to come out with a statement as to why their shelves are empty? Or does Walmart have enough inventory stored in warehouses already here to keep up with demand, until this passes?

Given the circumstances, that strikes me as entirely appropriate; except the "or" should be replaced with "and."
Doesn't beating someone to death or otherwise defeat the purpose of why they should have worn the mask? I mean if you are going to get that close up, the mask is kind of worthless......

They will have a bit more than most due to their extensive Distribution Center network, but overall they won't be more than a week or three behind everyone else. In fact, they have been having some empty shelves already before this happened.

The latest Pandemic show with Steve Bannon, had Dr. Hatfill on by phone towards end of the show, Episode 11

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSq4HBI0-eM

They discussed Lancet Medical journal estimates & projections for Feb 2nd and how they are not jiving with Beijing numbers.

Official numbers too low

this purports to be from a Wuhan crematorium employee

The interview with Dr. Price really confused me. It sounded like he was saying, "Nothing to see here. The flu is worse than this. Just wash your hands and you'll be fine." Does he REALLY believe this, or is he just towing the CDC line? And, do they really think that NOT telling people the truth and allowing them to prepare is helpful?

You realize that a beating doesn't have to be "to death", right? Applying some Hickory Shampoo is a time-honored method of getting a point across.

I hold no love for the CCP, but look at what they are dealing with. Demanding and enforcing, upon pain, a mandatory mask order makes perfect sense.

Here in the U.S. it would go down like this:

[LocalPoliceOfficer] "Citizen. In an effort to reduce transmission of the contagion, you are required by CDC and Presidential Order, to wear a protective mask when out in public. Comply immediately." [/LocalPoliceOfficer]

[NonCompliantCitizen]
"UP YOURS JOHNNY LAW! I'm an American! You can't make me!" [/NonCompliantCitizen]

[LocalPoliceOfficer]
Deploys Tazer. Tazes idiot. [/LocalPoliceOfficer]

[Local Health Department staff]
Three guys in full PPE, exit van following the officer's patrol. Handcuffs and shackles are applied. Mask is applied to idiot. Idiot is stuffed into back of van and taken to a quarantine facility.[/Local Health Department staff]

Don't think it can't happen.

He is telling the truth.... a very limited truth....

At this point in time in the USA, he is 100% correct. What he isn't saying is what matters. If this does go wild in the USA, it will be bad, very bad.

The regular Flu is far worse .... today.

He is just a politician and not a real doctor anymore. Sorry to say.

True, but I don't believe in half measures. If I am going to give a beating, it is going to be a BEATING!

Well, this increased my pucker-factor by 100. I’m at the doctor’s office getting a refill on some meds (doctor visit is required every 3 months). As people are checking in at the front desk, they’re given a surgical mask and asked a series of questions about symptoms, whether they’ve been traveling out of the country, etc. etc.

The guy in front of my answered “yes” to all the corona virus symptoms and said he just came back from Disney World with his grandkids. They just noted it in his file and told him to have a seat. Meanwhile, as I stepped up to the counter, the receptionist hacked her lungs out, coughing into a tissue.

I’m in a rural country town of about 800 people, but within 30 miles of a larger city of 150,000.

Lord help us.

Edited: Sorry, the guy said Walt Disney Cruise, not Disney World.

PS. I hear coughing EVERYWHERE.

Heard that, too.

Some won't stick their neck out much beyond current theme, but he did say we don't know much about this virus yet.

However, what is really telling is, he did endorse President's actions shutting down some incoming flights as prudent.
And, he sure didn't suggest Chinese actions trying to quarantine 80 million people was an over-reaction on their part.

Neither of those two actions are normal flu season responses, people need to get a clue, start grasping that reality.

Most likely he had the flu that's going around.

But,

Lord Help us, indeed.

I think that 5 to 10 days is going to give us the indications whether this is breaking out here in North America.

Meanwhile, all you can do is get 'er done.

"Guys, real info here, from uncle in Hong Kong.
The only was to get info out of China is by word of mouth.
It is probably like a big game of telephone, but here is what he has been told.
100,000 likely dead in Wuhan.
Wuahn has been shut off and is being "sacrificed". The government is going to let the virus run its course and ravage Wuhan while the government tries to contain the pockets that have spread outside of Wuhan.
He says word on the street is the Chinese Government is breaking down and losing control of the situation."

I am about 15 miles east of Camp Ashland. I thought that place was trashed. I guess they have been working out there to get things fixed up. I heard the same as you that flooding is supposed to be bad again this spring. Last year was a horrible disaster. I hope the experts are wrong. Didn't effect me personally but a few different folks that I know on an acquaintance basis had some real horrible damage.

I do not want those infected folks situated in the middle of our area. Especially if they are importing people from other parts of the country or the world. It was bad enough when they brought in the Ebola folks to UNMC. Let's hope the powers that be change their mind, neighbor. I play golf at Ashland CC and Iron horse quite frequently. Don't mess with my golf game (lol).

Pretty much in line with all of the anecdotal evidence we have seen during the last week or so.
