The World Health Organization has changed the definition of “herd immunity,” eliminating the pre-COVID consensus that it could be achieved by allowing a virus to spread through a population, and insisting that herd immunity comes solely from vaccines.

The change occurred on a section of the WHO’s website entitled ‘Coronavirus disease (COVID-19): Serology, antibodies and immunity’.

The WHO’s original definition (archived here) states that herd immunity “happens when a population is immune either through vaccination or immunity developed through previous infection. This means that even people who haven’t been infected, or in whom an infection hasn’t triggered an immune response, they are protected because people around them who are immune can act as buffers between them and an infected person.”

The original definition fails to identify the pre-COVID consensus on what is meant by “herd immunity,” which is when a population becomes protected against a virus because enough people have been infected with it to create community immunity.

However, the WHO’s updated version is even more extreme, insisting that herd immunity can only be achieved by mass vaccination programs.

“‘Herd immunity’, also known as ‘population immunity’, is a concept used for vaccination, in which a population can be protected from a certain virus if a threshold of vaccination is reached,” states the WHO website, adding, “Herd immunity is achieved by protecting people from a virus, not by exposing them to it.”

“‘Herd immunity’ exists when a high percentage of the population is vaccinated,” states the website, completely omitting the original meaning of “herd immunity,” which is when a population becomes immune to a virus by being exposed to it.

By changing the definition of “herd immunity,” the WHO is literally re-writing hundreds of years of scientific understanding as to what the term truly means in an apparent effort to silence any argument that herd immunity would have been a better approach to fighting COVID-19 than lockdowns and social distancing.

I had Nightwolf look this up yesterday, what WHO actually said was (at least officially and in their official medical papers) was pretty much that IN THE CASE OF THIS VIRUS, they did not believe that full "herd immunity" could be "achieved" without the use of a vaccine.

That isn't the same thing as redefining what Herd Immunity means in the first place.

It still officially means that a population has herd immunity when enough people are resistant to the disease that it stops being spread around.

For example, the Black Death eventually achieved "herd immunity" for 12 years after it struck Europe in the 14th century, only to return and take a huge portion of the children born during those 12 years because while their parents were now immune, the babies and children were not.

After that, the Plague continued to come in waves for centuries, as new generations were born and lacked herd immunity only to go away again for a few years, rinse repeat.

It would still be doing this without modern antibiotics....

And if herd immunity is ever actually achieved for Covid-19, then they will release Covid-21 and we can start the panicdemic all over again until the Great Reset is achieved.

If this had to do with science and biology and not globalist politics, I would not be so suspicious.

herd immunity can only be achieved when you are able to implement the constraints of a "herd".
because Humans are notorious for their resistance to constraints that would create a herd, there can never be "herd immunity" in the human population.
this can be proven by observing the behavior of both the population and to the government with regards to lock downs.
first, the government negated herd immunity by classifying workers as either essential or non essential. And then required essential workers to provide services to non essential workers. The pizza delivery guy for example.
second, you people simply refuse to stay home OR wear a mask.
third, the liberals still clamor for unrestricted illegal immigration. If you want to establish herd immunity in animals, you do not allow strange cows to come and go as they please without significant quarantine.
fourth, using the flu as an example, they have never produced enough vaccine for even half the US population - herd immunity never achieved.

sorry, vaccine or not - there can not be herd immunity in humans

Actual medical "herd immunity" doesn't mean a disease has totally gone away or that no one ever gets sick, it just means enough people have had it that the major epidemic tends to fade away; though it may come back later.

Small Pox and Measles didn't totally go away after they took out 80 to 90 percent of the previous Native American population but the 10 to 20 percent of people who survived pretty much had "herd" immunity by the traditional definiations.

Their children didn't, which is why the waves just kept on coming...
