It's another beautiful day. 83 for our high with sunny skies.

No home fellowship today. It's our weekend off. Nothing planned for today.

I thawed out a smoked, boneless, half ham to bake tonight. We'll be eating off of that for a few days. I still have two in the freezer and will replace tonight's ham on my next trip to Sam's this week.

Yep. April is almost over, and I'm nervously awaiting May 1st when my Medicare kicks in. I hope it's a smooth transition.

OMG I swear spring is going to kill me. I've been working hard to get projects done. In recent weeks I've dug 12 holes to plant new fruit trees, moved firewood, repaired the shed, installed rain harvest, and built 8 more raised beds and extended the garden. I've pruned, mowed, trimmed, burned storm debris and planted. This week I am doing nothing! Nothing, I tell ya. Nada. Zilch. I deserve a break. I'm getting a massage and nails done, relaxing on the sun lounger, having lunch with the girls ...and shopping for fresh worms for the vermiculture bin ...and sketching out new outdoor chairs I want to build for around the firepit ...and practicing bread baking in my new pizza rocket oven. ...maybe I'll hang some new string lights over the patio. But that's all. Don't try to make me feel like a sloucher. It won't work. OK, maybe I could pressure wash the patio. But that's all. Nothing more. I'm relaxing this week!

It's 78 degrees and sunny. I love this weather! Went for a walk and tossed in a load of laundry. That's probably about all that will get accomplished today. It's a lazy Sunday, one good for hanging out on the patio and drinking coffee!

If these warm temps continue, which they should this time of year, Cary wants to till up the raised beds with his small tiller. I plan to get the tomato and pepper plants this week while in Tupelo. He wants to plant flowers in the raised beds, and I want to plant FOOD. I guess we'll compromise and do both. The peppers will go in all the planters I've moved and made ready. I'll plant squash seed in with the flowers, and the tomatoes will be in a bed all to themselves.

I did my walk this morning while Cary was at DS's house helping with his fence. Such a beautiful day!

Supposed to be gorgeous until Wednesday, then snow possible again thru the weekend. I'm trying to get some garden cleanup done today and few other little chores. Gonna be a long week at work - especially tomorrow - but it will be OK. I still have a job,

Last week was a big week and this week will probably be as well. It's an awesome feeling to look at my list and mark things off!

This week I'm starting a new asparagus bed, two new strawberry beds, planting more blueberry bushes, extending one row of blackberries, planting more apple and mulberry trees, putting cardboard down and mulching around all our berries and vineyard. I'm also installing more fencing, although it's not my favorite thing to do, but I'm thankful we have the livestock that requires it.

I plan to start quite a bit of our garden this week. I'm also probably going to plant more potatoes, onions, and garlic than I originally planted.

If I get time, I also want to start a new, much bigger herb garden. I think I'm going to go with a cottage garden theme, pretty yet useful. I've also decided to plant herbs around our pool. I'm hopeful it will keep mosquitoes away during evening swims.

I hope you all have a wonderful, blessed week!

We planted herbs, corn, squash, cucumbers and brought some flowers out of greenhouse to plant in the meadow.
A week ago Friday we found a slab leak which was the day we signed the contract for roofing our house. We were truly blessed that it was a small leak. It was fully fixed on Wednesday the roofers did their thing Friday. We've used this company 3 times and they are very good. Once we recover financially we are installing a walk in shower and doing a small remodel of the kitchen. Other than painting we'll be done hopefully.
We emptied our storage unit so no more money going out for that. Yay!!
Mailing the taxes tomorrow, owe federal but getting some back from state.
Packing up pantry donations and boxes of things for the thrift store.
Prayers for all!

I didn't know but found out recently that asparagus and strawberries ..love each other just planted two new asparagus beds yesterday with extra large two year old roots...
We have so many baby strawberries coming off our plants that we are going to try a living strawberry mulch in the new asparagus beds the asparagus should come right on up through them...and berries should shade the weeds ..if it works that will be a big win

Got to get to the spraying. Two doc appts today. Scot is very slow on walker.
I don't know how much garden will get done this year.
Found a baby kitten in the chicken coop. Turns out it's my neighbor's. She got her son 3 baby kittens. Just dumped them in the yard. They ran off and one landed here. Of course it's a female.
It's still on the cooler side here and they are calling for much colder in a week or so.
Still have propane and can start coal stove if that runs out.

problem with that idea is with the asparagus - they are REAL HEAVY feeders - you should be doing a surface dressing of strait manure a few times a year - strawberries would have a hard time surviving that application - good sign you aren't feeding enough is the bed spread of the crowns - shouldn't have any void spaces between the plantings ......

It looks cold outside but its not, its warm, over cast and cloudy. From my office window I can see goat butts under my school bus, chickens running around. The poor rooster we got when we got the adult chickens a few weeks back is missing his tail feathers, there is a feather eating chicken out there. They can be so cruel to each other. And I can see our lucky dog laying under a tree.

I'm sleepy but I want to get some things done today so I am resisting going back to sleep.

The other night my chair would not work, I think the cord for the control must have been pinched. Dh was already in bed but he came out to check it out. I think the chair is afraid of DH because all of a sudden it started working. Although I did pull the cord out. DH is the best at keeping things going around here, I have become to dependent on him for my own good, but its hard not to do that. I've always taken care of my self in the past.

Since I didn't have anything planned, yesterday, I decided to go ahead and change out my closets for the summer. I didn't come across any clothing that I wanted or needed to get rid of. That's a first. I do need a new pair of jeans and a white top, so I'll be looking for those soon, but not on this next shopping trip. Too many more important items to get this go around.

85 degrees and sunny, today. I'm loving it! Rain coming back in Wednesday through Sunday! Tomorrow and Wednesday, Cary has doctor appointments, and Thursday is shopping day. He's going to wait a bit longer about getting the raised beds ready, but I'll be getting the tomato and pepper plants when we go shopping on Thursday at the greenhouse. At least, we'll have them here when we get ready to plant. It's still a bit early. Even though, we're having warm temps now, the ground needs to warm more.

I have no idea what our plans are for today. Over coffee this morning (our usual time to plan our day), we were talking about Israel and the coming war. I think Cary has some plans for outside work. Light house cleaning for me, I guess.

Left-over ham, butter beans, boiled potatoes, bread and butter pickles, garlic rolls for tonight. Still no dessert.

Well doc wasn't wrong. If anything, it looks like her and I both underestimated the level of water holding. One week of walking does not make 25 pounds vanish into thin air. And the legs are still showing some edema, which means there is more. Dang. But have to admit, seeing those numbers on the scale made me a bit happier.

And while it took much longer than I'm used to, the full 1.25 mile walk got done.

My bp is still staying low. But my heart rate is another thing entirely. I'm hoping that will settle out as the exercise effects hit for longer.

B6 is very helpful for water retention, I've used it for years.

I've actually gotten some things done today, not as much as I'd like, but the day is not over. A dent in the kitchen mess and third load of laundry in the washer.

I was doing okay until I had lunch, which consisted of sawteed okra, tomatoes, riced cauliflower, a few bacon bits and two eggs scrambled in it. It may have been the tomatoes, which are filled with lectins. I'm going to elimitate them for the next couple of days and see if that makes a difference. I love tomatoes.

I finally got over being sleepy. Wracking my brain about what to cook for supper. I was going to cook cabbage and smoked sausage, but the cabbage didn't look very good, the goats will enjoy it. I put it in the fridge in the shop and forgot about it, oh well. I decided on green beans, potatoes and smoked sausage. I just put it on so Dh will eat a little later. I used one of my Carote pans, so it won't be like it would be if cooked in cast iron. I moved away from cast iron a couple of years ago because it got so heavy for my aging hands.

We just finished the left over smoked ham, butter beans, Brussel sprouts, boiled potatoes, bread and butter pickles, and garlic rolls. We've got the kitchen all cleaned up, too. Time to relax for the night.

Cary finished off his spraying our fence line. He sprayed a few days ago but missed a few spots. I worked a little in the raised beds adding more garden soil and manure. All of my Irises are in full bloom. Just beautiful. I love all my flowers!

Kyrsyan, at our age, it can take a full month of walking at least half a mile several days a week before results will be seen. If you can do a mile every other day (and less on other days), plus walking at least 6 days a week, you'll see a difference in your ankles in about 14 days.

I know . . . I used to see some results in 5 days, but everything physical just takes longer. Be of good cheer! At least you can walk. I know folks who are in PT and getting down the hall to the bathroom is a major accomplishment.

Oh, I'm already seeing results. It's the reason why I keep going. 1.25 miles isn't that much. If I can get pass the halfway point, I typically can finish. When I can get more speed, I'll start adding more distance. But I need to be doing that 1.25 mile in a half hour first.

And the body wants it. Even when it's sore or tired from it, it gets more energy and feels better. My ability to flex and move is already getting better.

When I can start doing at least half again more, I'll start naturally losing weight. My sleep will get better and I'll need less sleep. Somewhere before then, the heart rate issues will settle. Which will be a good thing but also annoying. Because once it settles, it'll harder to hit the zones and burn the calories.

We don't use manure...we use fish...it doesn't burn...we have had asparagus here for 25 years... we are replacing...as some of our oldest crowns that are on their way out....we are in an area that it actually grows wild on then sides of the roads..

The weather has been lovely except for the !@%#^& wind. I worked out a bit today hoeing the asparagus bed and the front flower bed. The soil that was added to fill around the front stoup is full of thistles, so they had to go. Also, went across the street to help a couple residents trim the trees out of two cardinal shrubs. Love the shrubs especially since they are across the street opposite my living room windows. Especially nice since they are not mine to care for but thought they needed my assistance today.

I also had my first asparagus for supper. I love it but never buy or store so it's to enjoy briefly each year. The Mother's Day peonies that were moved last year are up and fully budded. I'm so thrilled because I would have hated to lose them. The plant originally came from my Great-great grandmother and possibly back further.

I hauled all the sticks I'd piled in the front yard to the backyard burn pile. I have two huge piles needing burned but we're under another burn ban due to wind and dry. It's supposed to rain later tonight and all day tomorrow with lots of wind.

I actually sewed the fleece pants I started forever ago, and they are finished except for the waist elastic and bottom hems. I had a miserable time sewing because the thread kept locking in the top tension. However, I kept my cool and did not throw the machine out the window and finished the seams. I'll try to do the elastic and hems tomorrow.

I also measured and cut off a pair of pants that needed hemmed. Once I finish the fleece pants, I'll reset the machine from stretch stitch to regular and quickly finish the hems. Then attack some accrued mending. In looking for hem tape, I ended up doing a major clear out of odds and ends of saved hem tape and bias tape too short to be useful and reorganized by color into the plastic box they were in and then switched the tape contents to a smaller box and put lace into the bigger box. Also, some lace went into the donate box. Should have probably donated all the lace but I hoard sewing stuff.

speaking of sewing stuff, before Katrina I had a huge selection of sewing notions, anything you might ever need, as I had sewn my clothes for years. Of course Katrina took it all away and thinking I could not live without a similiar amount of sewing notions I scoured ebay for "lots" of sewing notions. I replaced and replaced, bought a nice sewing machine case on wheels and stored it all in there and I haven't looked in that case in years. Lost my nice singer machine too and replaced it with a small machine that I've never used. Its all there for someone else.

Years ago, I sewed a lot of my own clothes, too. I had a nice machine, fabrics, patterns, and all the fixin's. That was then. Now, I just have lost all interest in it. My machine is stuck in a back closet and hasn't been brought out, since I gave up sewing. I don't even know if it still works. If not, I have a couple of really simple patterns that can be sewn by hand should the need ever arise.

I have been getting a lot done. Mostly outside stuff.

Saturday I planted green beans. I transplanted sunflowers that came up volunteer. They were where I intend to plant my corn. I am moving things around a lot this year. I could plant my peppers and tomatoes, but it may be too wet since we got some rain last night. My sweet potatoe slips are growing. I only plan to plant a few this year. I just want some each year so I have fresh potatoes to start slips. We eat a few along through the year of course.

I have several plastic barrel rings we have cut using as raised beds. I have shoved the dirt out of 2 and put a layer of landscaping clothe under them. Then I refilled with dirt almost to the top. I still have 3-4 more to do. I am planting my herbs in them. I had trouble with the Bermuda grass coming up from the bottom of them. This should stop the grass. I grew some wonderful celery in one a couple of years ago. We are still using that celery we dried.

We have decided to divide our dog pen in half to build a Turkey pen in one side. We used to have Mastiffs, so the pen and dog house is huge. But we only have a 45 pound dog now. The only time she is in the pen is when we are working with equipment and want to make sure she is out of the way or when she is in heat. I moved the doghouse to past the half way point in the pen. We have to move the back panel in and get another panel with a door for the back. We have to figure out a roof too. Then the run will be connected to that. I will enter their run to get to the night time pen. The turkeys are so friendly. I just love them. I still don't know their sex. Hopefully I have some of each.

We did my job yesterday. I am glad it's done. It was a real job this time. The first place, someone had thrown out 6, 55 gallon trash bags full of house hold trash. Luckily, not much was torn open and scattered. We did not see any trash with names on it. We contacted our wildlife officer and let him know. If we get a name, he takes them to court. We did not open the bags to dig through them, just looked through the scattered trash. Then at another area there was a couch and loveseat. What a day! We went to the transfer station near there and paid to unload. It took 2 trips . Usually we can dump for free at the county work yard since it is trash off public land. But the county yard was 18 or more miles away. But we are done for another month. I just have to do my invoices and talk to my boss about some issues we saw.

Today, I don't plan to do a lot. It is supposed to rain and maybe storm. I got up and took Advil because I am sore from the last few day and yesterday about did me in.

Hubby rented a stump grinder for an 8 hour weekend. He only got 3 1/2 hours before it lost cutter teeth. He said from now on he will just hire it done. It would have been cheaper overall and the job might have got finished. He got 4 completely done and most of a really big one.

Have a blessed week and stay safe everyone

Ever since this weekend with the Israel/Iran deal, my stomach has been in knots and I have been glued to the computer. Not healthy. We are good on preps, but to make myself feel better I did a little top off. First was Dollar General where I mainly got cleaning and sanitation supplies. Then to Aldi where I got things like potatoes, onions and eggs. They had their brand of boullion cubes marked down from $1.79 to 59 cents each, so a lot of those came home with me. I still have about $30 I took out of my emergency envelope and will probably hit the liquor store tomorrow to buy some pints. I did top off on gas and filled up a stray 2 gallon can on Sunday. Today the price jumped 30 cents.

Have sprouted the green beans and getting them in the ground....blue lake pole beans
The asparagus roots are planted and so far four of the baby strawberries are in with them.... it got extremely hot yesterday. Suddenly 90...so we stopped transplanting the strawberries... but amazingly with that heat...they are standing up like soldiers today...
We did end up under a severe T-storm warning with possible 2" hail yesterday...but God is good... it split and went around us...people to the south of us did get hale and strong winds We are back in the 70s today...and will stay in the 70s and upper 60s for next couple of weeks with lots of rain chances..
Since things in Europe are uncertain..we are adding more canned smoked fish...it is so rich in iodine and omega oils..that would like to have plenty on hand...just in case it gets hard to come by..

I'm really cheap when it comes to some things, one being facial tissue, never bought it until the last few years, may have started with covid. My nose just will not stop running and I look like rudolph with peeling skin. I'm giving in and buying a box of Kleenex tissue with lotion, even though, to me anyway, its expensive. And my nose won't stop itching, even when its not running.

I've been working on my next grocery list, replacing a few cans here and there. My grocery list is huge, to me anyway, and its over $200 which is a lot for me. At least for the moment everything is in stock. However, the Idahoan thin french fries that DH likens to McDonalds, goes in and out of stock regularly. And the Sam's Angus plain frozen beef patties are out of stock at my regular walmart. There are a couple of other wm's in my area that do have them, so I could go there, but that's another 60 mile round trip.

I'm beginning to think I'm getting a little anxious what with what is going on in the world.

I have cash and I have a credit card, but I don't want to use either one of those. I'm trying to add to my cash and pay down the cc. Dh offered to loan me the money to do the shopping sooner rather than later, but I'm trying to hold out til this Friday, which I get my next check.

I'm also getting some need things done here at home, laundry and kitchen. I've made some strides on both yesterday and today. I did a large load of white clothes and folded them out of the dryer instead of putting them in a hamper to get folded some other time< LOL. They are put away too.
