Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Monday issued a statement about the Biden administration’s attempts to take over state National Guard units.

“President Biden and his Admin. are making a power grab for the National Guard. They want to give the Secretaries unilateral authority to dismantle National Guard units on a whim. Governors must not be sidelined as commander-in-chief of our National Guards,” Abbott wrote on X.

In a public statement, Abbott’s office explained Legislative Proposal 480 by Biden’s U.S. Department of the Air Force “poses a threat to the Texas National Guard.”

The proposal would give the U.S. Air Force “unilateral authority to transfer Air National Guard units to the Space Force—sidelining Governors as the commander-in-chief of their respective National Guards,” according to the governor’s office.

A letter sent directly to Joe Biden by Abbott stated, “In recent years, members of the Texas National Guard have heroically responded to hurricanes, wildfires, and a variety of other disasters, including the one at the Texas-Mexico border. Legislative Proposal 480, put forth by the U.S. Department of the Air Force, poses an intolerable threat to the Texas National Guard. Congress has long required the consent of a governor before units can be transferred out of the National Guard he commands.”

Abbott’s message continued, “By departing from this sensible arrangement, and allowing the Secretaries to dismantle National Guard units on a whim, Legislative Proposal 480 would set a dangerous precedent. Members of the Texas National Guard must always stand ready to respond to natural disasters, civil disturbances, cartel activity that threaten our way of life. Instead of attempting such a power grab in Congress, the U.S. Department of the Air Force should work with the affected governors to build up the Space Force in a way that is consistent with federal law.”

The authoritarian Biden administration is openly attempting to usurp state rights in what will only further divide the federal government and areas led by Republican politicians.

Take over a State's National Guard and you open the door to active recruitment of militia forces. Joe seems to think that his "You need an F16 to take on the govt" claim frightens those trained to subvert authoritarian forces... That F16 needs pilots, maintenance crews, parts, fuel and facilities to function.

F16? We don't need no stinkin' F16

He wants to get around the recruitment issue so that when he puts men on the ground in Ukraine it doesn’t drain the military he wants to put on the ground in other theaters. The governors can call up the national guard, but they also have to give permission for them to be put under the authority of the federal government.

Are you sure about that?

No, I must respectfully disagree. This proposal would remove the ability of a governor to deny permission. Team Branden wants the legal fig leaf to remove state-controlled forces from areas that might otherwise mount a domestic defense.

I agree that O’Biden wants to take away the governors’ powers … and this is just the start. Powerful governors mean the feds can be kept in check in a state. Enough powerful governors and the feds power will really shrink.

There are probably multiple reasons why this is desirable for the commies in charge.

The DC rats really hate the separation of powers as delineated in the Constitution, don't they? They seem to think they're all powerful and everyone else is subordinate. Until of course, there is an issue: then they blame the governors & local officials.

inner-woven into the US Constitution is the provision of the National Guard - while 2A is widely accepted for individual CITIZEN arms rights >>> State's Rights to a citizen army isn't dismissed either ....

if you go back to the Forefather's mindset in writing the Constitution & Bill of Rights - they fought & lived thru a successful Revolution War with both Army and Militia fielded >>> and no way they'd agree that the Militia become solely commanded under a GOV - not after fighting a King George tyrant .....

the problem would in resupply ..the federal government can simply choose to not resupply and of retake ownership of all weapons as these things all started off as united states federal property ..

Who pays the guard? In a practical matter, how do you seize physical control of a military group that doesn’t want to be controlled? Gun to every officers head?

Texas is a big place with many resources. If the fed tried that happy crap, you'd see several businesses pivot to a war footing and start producing those weapons for Texas. And we'd keep the gifts from uncle sugar.

If the fedgov were successful at this, I could see Governors offering "lateral" transfers to the State Guard - and probably keeping the equipment. When fedgov says, "give it back or we will take it" we all know the reply

This could be interesting. Admin takes that away. Abbott forms militias and issues m4s to civilian militiamen along with equipment with some string attached and then, then gets them better equipped than the military. Then militias setup strategic centers and fun ensues. Trick would be to double amnesty all actions so state can twll feds and locals to piss off if a oower player gets offed whether by accident or otherwise
