The Survivor Truck, built to drive through the end of the world

First I was afraid, I was petrified..."Sometimes," author William S. Burroughs once said, "paranoia is just having all the facts." Given the facts gathered from the past few natural and man-made disasters, it's not a surprise that many people have begun to think of what they'd need to survive the next calamity. One California man has taken a kitchen-sink approach and created the Survivor Truck -- a machine that could keep rolling through any given Armageddon.

Jim DeLozier, who sells survival goods in Costa Mesa, Calif., says the idea of the Survivor Truck was to build the ultimate rolling outpost, one that could withstand even a nuclear attack. Starting with a Chevy C70 truck powered by 150-gallon tanks of gasoline or propane, DeRozier outfitted the chassis with every conceivable piece of equipment needed to travel through a disaster. "My goal was to build a vehicle that can go anywhere you want to go, stay as long as you want and drive back out," DeLozier says.

On the outside, the truck gets bulletproof shielding, a filtration system to keep chemical agents out of the cabin and even a coating of pickup truck bedliner. Night vision helps keep watch on what's happening when the lights go out, while a solar generator can provide power for the array of communications gear during daylight hours. On the inside, there's enough water, food, toilets and battery power to keep a group of people not just alive but comfortable for months amidst chaos. If parked in the wilderness, the top platform includes a complete camping unit and inflatable raft, along with a water purification system; if there's some need for an aggressive response, the truck has a protected sniper's cage and a backup crossbow and arrows.

While DeLozier says he originally conceived the truck as the ultimate survivalist driving machine -- with a price that runs between $100,000 and $600,000 -- he's received more interest from military and law enforcement agencies mulling a rolling command center. He says he's somewhat surprised by the attention his concept has received, "whether it's the zombie apocalypse fad or whether people believe they have a potential need....it's designed to be a home away from home." Given how many people have seen their homes washed away or destroyed in recent years, it's no wonder there's some demand for something that could outrun trouble.

Well, where to start...

First of all, where does this guy think he's going to find propane or gasoline in a SHTF scenario? Assuming there is still any available, it's going to be the kind of commodity that people will defend with their lives. Just look at what's going on in NJ amd NY right now.

Better to run diesel. In a pinch, you can run on kerosene, heating oil, or purify your own from waste vegetable oil.

I'd bet he's got some spendy drivetrain stuff under there too, for which parts will be impossible to get.

Better all around to use stuff that's already commonplace in the real world, so you can scrounge another one when something breaks.

Interesting concept....however, I don't see any spare tires on it. The drive train doesn't have a skid plate. It should have a HUMONGOUS winch somewhere cause if that thing ever gets stuck! No window shutters to protect the driver, hmmmmm. I agree that diesel would be far better than gasoline or propane. I would also put some canvas tarps along the sides of the roof rack and cammie netting that all can be rolled out and up quickly. I would also consider dual rear axles for better offroad worthiness, but that's just me. It is a good idea though.

Oops, i stand corrected! Found this link with a bit more information:

Beneath the 360-degree protective cage, armored sniper platform, command and communications center with full Faraday cage, and assorted storage compartments is a Chevrolet C-70, but one with an engine modified to run on a variety of fuels.

DeLozier says the truck carries enough freeze-dried food and has its own water purification, generation and desalination systems to enable his family to live for as long as two years well off the grid, producing the electricity it needs via solar and mobile generators.

Or, he says, the truck can become a barracks for a 12-person team.

For camping, the unit has air conditioning, heater, toilet, shower and 4,135-watt solar panel. There also is a fold-out tent, 360-degree thermal-regulated camouflage net system and a medical kit. The truck even carries an electric-powered ATV.
Air inside the vehicle is filtered against various contaminants, but the truck also has gas masks, chemical suits, night-vision cameras, self-contained breathing apparatus and other survival necessities. The truck, even its lights, is bulletproofed.

The only weak point is probably the tires unless their solid rubber and yes you could patch them, but the supplies may run out and if bad enough its just shot and needs to be replaced

These trucks only makes sense if you go someplace both remote and 4X4 rugged
enough that no other RV's could ever get up there AND then do it before TSHTF.
Otherwise, save $ for more/other preps and just drag cheaper RV to destination.

I'm not a big fan of relying upon any long distance, tricked out expensive, bugout
vehicle strategies for after TSHTF to get you to your BOL. I think a lot will be stuck
well short, abandoning their prized rig, of where they'd wanted to go, unless they
were only talking about traveling well known back country roads and even then not
for more than a couple of local surrounding counties from their starting point.

that truck is one MASSIVE bulls-eye!
this, exactly!

any armed groups out there will be able to take that thing down. it might take a bit more effort than a regular vehicle, but it can be done. that thing will attract such groups like a magnet...far better to be driving a 20 yr old station wagon with a rusted body but mechanically sound. remember, OPSEC isn't just a catchy phrase.

A White multi-fuel military engine would be the first choice of powertrain. Can burn everything but piss.

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anything about bulletproof tires. I'm guessing this thing could be stopped by a .22.

Other than special bullet-resistant tires, isn't there something that can be added to tires, like green slime, or is that only for tube tires?

Green slime (at least the stuff I tried) is good only for very small holes. There are self-sealing tires, but there are limits. And if they use tubeless, the tires can be flattened by nearby explosions that overpressure the tire and break the bead seal.

That motor weighs half a ton. Plus, as I keep harping on it, where do you get parts? Not worth it. A pre-electronic Cummins 6 would be fine, and will run on a wide range of fuels, some of which can be produced at home.
