Does anyone else see a wee bit of a problem with drivers cheerfully taking the unit to a “drop-off point?” Gonna be a bunch of those things at the bottom of the nearest river.

Looks like they are taking pics of license plates and the barnacle GPS transmits every 15 seconds if it detects movement. And if it's not returned you are on the hook for that too, on top of a damn fine.

Bet it comes off quicker than a boot with a cordless grinder.

But I piece of sheet metal or pallet strapping is probably faster.

Pride comes before the fall.....Pride month ended.
The person who sets it takes all the pertinent information to know whose car it was put on.....and the evil law breaker will be liable for the safe return of the device. No doubt of that. It is amazing how obtrusive government is. This is like icing.

You are already recorded as the scofflaw. Like a boot, you mess with it, you are fined. People will find a way, of course.
Cover the camera.
They are taking pictures of your license plate when the cop attaches it.

The Barnacle Device is a new tool for law enforcement. It attaches to your vehicle making it unusable until you pay up. The IRS just purchased 500,000 units. It's being used for vehicular fines of all sorts but also deadbeat dads and small claims judgements.

There is absolutely zero articles stating the IRS purchased 500,000 of these units. They are not a purchasable item. They are leased at 250.00 a month. They have been around since 2016. On Barnacles website They list use case studies of those who use it. Don't you think they would tout 500k units used by the IRS if in fact they did make a deal on them. They have a handful of cities that use them on a limited basis. This is an ill-conceived and short sighted concept. I expect company failure within 3 years and I will repost here when they go bankrupt

I know.

"If you choose to deal with men by means of compulsion, do so. But you will discover that you need the voluntary co-operation of your victims, in many more ways than you can see at present. And your victims should discover that it is their own volition—which you cannot force—that makes you possible. I choose to be consistent and I will obey you in the manner you demand. Whatever you wish me to do, I will do it at the point of a gun. If you sentence me to jail, you will have to send armed men to carry me there—I will not volunteer to move. If you fine me, you will have to seize my property to collect the fine—I will not volunteer to pay it. If you believe that you have the right to force me—use your guns openly. I will not help you to disguise the nature of your action."

I'm so glad the parking police and the road pirates don't need to get down on their knees to apply a tire boot any longer. /sarc

I feel bad for people that must spend their days where potential parking fines exist.

99% of my life is spent never being exposed to paid parking.
Paid parking is almost like living near a 7-Eleven.

To quote ol Joe Biden this week "Don't".

Bottom line: This is just one more example of lazy revenue generation or law enforcement. The meter maids are too lazy to call a tow truck.

Tow truck drivers gotta eat too. ;)

Remove the glass…replace.
Think outside the box...go to your trunk and get your freaking tire iron, go to work.

For everything "THEY" come up with to try to control us, We The People will come up with a work around. I'm sure within a week of these things being used there will be a "cheat" to defeat it. YEAH TEAM!!! :eleph:
That's the beauty (one of them) of your humanity.

Keep a dirty windshield?

Owner says WD40 is wonderful stuff for removing "adhesion." (he uses it to remove labels.)

Just think about it. If these devices already have electronics incorporated in the design, there are ways to totally disable your vehicle electronically so it cannot move until a mechanic gives the right code to enable it again.

But, like ShadowMan said:

“They are leased at $250 a month”
An evil minded person might illegally park junkers with old tags found on the side of the road just for laughs.
