I've found that totally ignoring them can work, too.

I've been fortunate. I only see that crap around the campus in Ames, and I suspect a number
of those students won't put up with it for long, either. Pepper spray is legal here. I'd give any really
obnoxious furry, that was in my face, a quick spray and keep walking away.

Easy solution here. School is for people. No pets/animals allowed in school. So if they identify as animals, then they aren't allowed in school. Some parent should enroll their schnauzer and demand it be let in since they are educating other people's "animals".
