PRYR RQST Our Dachsund Beau

My wife and I have four Dachshunds and the oldest male is a ten year old named Beau. About three weeks ago we noticed Beau had slowed down considerably and was panting a lot. Being on a weekend we took him to an animal emergency center that happens to be a teaching hospital and part of Mississippi State University. Beau was diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. When your dog has IMHA, it means his immune system destroys its own red blood cells. Your dog’s body still produces red blood cells in the bone marrow to replace the destroyed cells, but once they are released into circulation, the immune system mistakenly recognizes them as something foreign, like a virus or infection, and destroys them.
His hemocrit level was 15. normally it would be between 35 and 50. He received an emergency transfusion and began steroid therapy to try and suppress his immune system. Three days later they let us bring him home as his levels had improved. A week later he was tested again and his levels were now down to 11. Our vet told us there was little hope. She added Vitamin K and Atopica to his battery of drugs. Yesterday it was back to the vet for another blood panel and his hemocrit level is now 29. Our vet was ecstatic as were we. It seems like our little man may beat this. We are looking at months of recovery and we have just about spent down all we can, but we felt as if we owed him the best chance we could give him.

If any of you feel like saying a little prayer for Beau, it would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks, RIck

Of course I am going to pray for Beau and for you and your wife. I know that people sometimes don't understand the time and money that people are willing to invest in their pets.......but that's because they aren't fur-baby parents...our pets aren't just an animal, they are a member of our family, and we would do whatever we could to ensure that they are well and safe..........thank God for such a wonderful report for Beau!

Prayers said for Beau, I love Doxies.
Growing up we had Dachshunds, one that had 12 puppies in one litter.

Our pup had an auto-immune condition that attacked his nail beds. Caused him a lot of pain, and his nails were falling off. It was treated with doxycycline, Omega three mcts, and niacinamide. After 7 months, he seems to be fully recovered.

Don't know if dogs can take turmeric but it does seem to calm the immune system.

Prayers for Beau.

Back in February, I posted about our old boy Beau and his auto immune disorder. I am ecstatic to say, Beau has made a complete recovery and is doing as well as he ever has. After 7 months of Cyclosporine and Steroids, Beau is now the picture of health. He runs and jumps and plays like a puppy again. I wish to thank everyone that had a good thought or said a prayer for our boy Beau. You guys really are like family. Thanks and God bless you all.

You folks are like most of us here at TB2K. We love our pets. You have given Beau a good life. Let's hope and pray you can have him a little longer.
