FDA Commissioner Dr. Robert Califf has announced preparations for a possible bird flu pandemic with potentially high mortality rates.

Dr. Califf speaking to a Senate Committee:

"We need to continue to prepare for the possibility that it might jump to humans."

Although only one human case has been confirmed, the FDA plans extensive measures to combat a potential outbreak, including tests, antiviral drugs, and vaccines.

Dr. Califf emphasized the proactive stance of the FDA, "We’re in an enviable position compared to any time in the history of the world," highlighting the readiness to quickly produce vaccines and antivirals if necessary.

And they really don’t have an idea if was more widespread and people had fewer symptoms that they passed off as a cold. The mortality rate is in question because of it imo.

I don't disagree with you at all. I maintain that truth and accuracy are irrelevant in public policy formulation.

It's too early to speculate accurately what public policy will be enacted for an H5N1 pandemic. It's too early to decide what you will or will not comply with.

The CFR for H5N1 without human to human transmission is higher than for these diseases.

I'm not saying it's true. I'm saying this is the metric you will likely be dealing with.
