I was watching some videos for a project I am learning, paused it to let dogs out and come in to my Ubuntu login. This happens when I reboot and do not choose Windows as Ubuntu is my first OS load.

Still having issues getting it online so stuck with Win7 ATM.

Anyhoo, was trying to figure out what caused the computer to reboot, logged in to Windows to be met by a MS Edge screen-could not close it out, could not just' Accept' it. Rebooted and saw some issues with Edge trying to DL some other stuff as the screen flashed and shut down so no ID on what the problem was.

Rebooted and now have MS Edge in my Toolbar pinned [[removed that]] but have an Icon on the desktop-leaving it till I figure out what this shit is.

Anyone?

It even told me on it's screen "Win 7 was no longer supported". I have the computer set to not simply Update at whim tho that never seems to stop either Firefox or Windows from screwing it up.

Need to find a Wifi card or something Ubuntu can read so I can kill Windows internet access-want to keep my photo/video software till I see what Linux has-Gimp never really floated my boat but been using PS so long it is a learning curve thing.

Anyway-thie MS Edge crap?

Anyone?

Same thing happened to me. My son told me it's just Microsoft's new supposedly "safer" browser, now that they no longer support Windows 7 (and the accompanying Internet Explorer)--but like you, I had my settings to NOT UPDATE WITHOUT MY OK---but it uploaded this cr@p anyway.

How to remove? It doesn't seem to be a "program" that you can just go into the list of programs and "uninstall"---it's like it's part of the OS now....??????????????

a MS Edge screen-could not close it out
They made the X hard to see but it's in the upper right on the screen.

It sounds like you need to recheck your settings if it downloaded without you knowing.

The last time I did an update it showed up on mine, but I haven't "accepted" it so I don't know how well it works.

When your only choice is to accept something you don't want, go to Task Manager and kill it.

If Edge replaced Explorer than you will not be able to remove(uninstall it) because it's integrated with Windows. I'm not sure why it updated on Win 7. Maybe it was a mandatory push by Microsoft because they know people still use the older systems? Someone with more knowledge than myself could explain it better I'm sure.

I see you are suffering from the illusion that you own your computer. It is owned by billy gates, he will do whatever he wants with it.

KB4567409 6/29 did it.
(Nasty guys: if they no longer support WIN7, then leave us alone!)
Using Firefox anyway.
Forgot to shut down automatic UPDATES.

My solution: "Recover System Settings on your PC"
Open: "System Restore"
found (in my backups): "6-16-2020 (Backup) ==> System Image Restore Point"

I am running that now and will shut off automatic Updates after that.

Actually (with my son's help) WAS able to uninstall it this morning.

He said only reason I could is it was still Windows 7; had it been 10 it would have been part of the OS and not removable.

Um, Edge is simply an update of Internet Exploder that’s been rebranded. No need to get one’s panties in a wad over it.

A few screens to go through, when Microsoft updates its Edge web-browser. VERY annoying, but no more than the screens when re-installing Windows, or doing a major update.

Microsoft REALLY wants you to use their browser, but after you click on all the “yeah you upgraded Edge: big whoop” screens, your PC goes back to normal.

Just like BLM makes me *less* concerned about black issues, Microsoft’s annoying presentation of Edge makes me *less* likely to use it. Pushy sales and marketing people can go...

EDGE isn't a BAD browser. It IS Chrome from the parent Chromium. Tends to be quick. smooth etc.
While I still stay with Opera, and recently Brave, I have tested the new Chromium based Edge and like it quite a bit. It is much faster and looks good. Brave doesn't allow me to login to some sites where I need to transact business. However, other than that, it's been a nice browser.

Yes. It is part of the program. Don't attempt to remove it or you will likely be forced to reformat your hard drive. If you need to have windows on a computer at all upgrade to 10. I didn't like it and I still don't like some of the things that it does. Eventually it will upgrade itself (mine did) from 7 to 10. It will probably make itself primary at that time. Microsoft will shortly control every computer. Amazon will control every tablet.

If you're using Windows, you should know by now that the P left PC a long time ago. The Edge update is not a conspiracy, it's an update. You don't have to use it.

I went through a "system restore" and then to "no update" to get back. I found the bookmarks system edge uses to be unwieldy at best.

How To Uninstall Microsoft Edge Browser In Windows 10

By Julio Cachila
07/09/20 AT 8:24 AM

KEY POINTS
  • Microsoft recently caused a stir after reports surfaced that it is forcing Windows users to use Chromium Edge
  • The browser was pushed to users by way of a forced Windows update
  • There's a way to uninstall the new version of Edge
Microsoft has reportedly been pushing Windows 10 users to use the Chromium Edge browser even if they don't want to. For those who don't want the browser on their device, there is a way to remove it.

Previous reports talked about Microsoft forcing the Chromium Edge browser on Windows 10 users against their wishes. Some netizens who spoke about the matter described Microsoft's attempt at pushing its browser to people as “a new low.”
The netizens said Windows will automatically update itself anytime it wants to, whether the user is working on the computer or not. Once the forced update is done and the computer has restarted, the Edge browser will automatically launch itself to urge users to use it instead of another browser. It will then pin itself to the taskbar and desktop.

In addition, some users complained that the Edge browser that got installed or updated via the forced Windows update cannot be uninstalled. It will stay on the computer to urge the device owners to use it.

Thankfully, there's a way to uninstall the force-installed Edge browser. This method, first shared by the German-language website Deskmodder.de (via Bleeping Computer), requires a bit of effort but will effectively remove the app. Here's how:
  • First, users should determine the Edge version installed on their computer by opening the app, clicking on Settings and More... in the upper-right corner, clicking on Settings, then on About Microsoft Edge. The version number will be displayed there.
  • Second, users should open an elevated command prompt by hitting Start, typing “ CMD” in the search field, right-clicking on Command Prompt when it appears, then selecting Run as administrator from the list of options that are shown.
  • Third, once there, users should use the CD command to change to the folder where the browser is installed. For example, if version 83.0.478.58 is installed, the CD command will be:
cd C:Program Files (x86)MicrosoftEdgeApplication83.0.478.58
setup.exe --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall
  • Lastly, when done, users should close the command prompt by typing “ exit” and hitting enter.
Those who successfully reinstalled the classic version and do not want Edge to automatically update again can block it from being installed via Windows Update or manually download and install the app again.

Talk is cheap
I immediately went to my control panel and uninstalled it, no problem.

My computer was updating, when I have it set when and what to update, and just now it did one on its own. I remembered this thread after seeing the new logo on my taskbar, and I was like, "WT...?" so I immediately got rid of it.

Behold, I am coming soon.
Does anyone like Windows 10? If so, have been silent.

When I was in school, they taught us to conduct marketing research to avoid disasters like 'New Coke', etc. Did MS care to ask customers what they liked before forcing this thing down our throats....(yes, I know there are alternative operating systems. If I thought there was sufficient time left, I would investigate alternatives.)

I dumped One Drive to stop the red circles with white Xs.....still the system/apps wants to upload with re-occuring popups.
