Shelter Window Insulation for Winter

every year i post about this for anyone interested because, well, it just works really great. this winter predictions say its going to be bitter cold and those of us with lots of windows knows what means, drafts and cold coming in means needing more energy for heating, which means using more firewood or fuel oil or higher electric bills to stay warm

years ago someone told me a trick and ive been doing it every winter and it makes a tremendous difference in keeping the house snug and warm.

bubble wrap. no foolin', bubble wrap.

get some of the large rolls of med bubble sized bubble wrap, cut to fit the size of your windows.

sprtiz the inside of your windows with water and press the bubble wrap, bubble side on the window face, it will stay up by itself. make it long enough to come down over and cover the ledge or opening of the window.

if you have a south facing window that gets warm, the water may dry out faster but all you have to do is sprtiz the glass again and replace the bubble wrap. i have one window i have to do that to in winter. most of all the other windows, the bubble wraps stay up all winter just fine.

for the most part i keep my curtains closed so no one ever sees the bubble wrap, but on sunny days i open the curtains on one side and the light still comes thru.

if you are worried about looking like trailer trash when company comes over, it peels right off. personally i dont care what others think, my house is nice and warm and there are no drafts or cold spots.

in the spring just take them down and roll the up and stuff them in a garbage bag for next winter. ive been using the same pieces over and over for a good 5 years now, maybe longer.

dont remember where i got them i just searched online for the cheapest prices in office supplies and got 2 huge rolls, i think i paid around $40 or so.

it WILL make a difference in keeping your home warmer.
