Just watched an interview on KHQ Spokane that the evacuated areas in all the fire area will remain closed, probably through the weekend due to hot temperatures and high winds moving in. It is hard to imagine thousands of people in shelters wearing the clothes on their backs for a week. The cost to those that did manage to get a hotel room will cause many people to go into bankrupt even if they didn't lose their homes. There are a lot of areas closed that didn't burn.

Sounds like a good reason to have a shelter that will protect against fire, even if your house burns. One of those Atlas bunkers would fit the bill.

Fires burn hot. Real hot. They suck the air out of everything. Radiant heat kills. Not even bringing up all the toxic gases.
There are ways to do it, and the cost is pretty high.

His bond was increased to $2 million and the defense asked for a competency hearing.
BREAKING: according to new court docs, the suspect in the Old Trails Fire, Aaron Farinacci, that has devastated our community confessed to detectives to setting 25 fires since July 2025. So far, he's looking at potentially 4 additional charges while investigators look into his other claims. A judge will decide if there's probable cause.

So he already confessed to this crime. I recommend a public hanging or a public stoning. For the hanging use just a regular slip knot. Nothing fancy that breaks his neck, but a slip knot with enough slack so he slowly dies.

Two of my buddies saved their houses, they’re right on the fire line squirting hot spots and flames.
They live next door to one another.
It’s risky especially in California where they run out of water first sign of a fire
In this area of spokane they have giant generators to boost water pressure if it gets low, so water was plentiful. That was put in before the commie mayor took over before Spokane went to the libtards

I saw that the POS mayor said those burnt areas won't be opened for residents to return for many weeks or months. Sounds like California and Hawaii. Time for people to take back Spokane.
I also saw a few videos last night of all the druggies on the downtown streets. It was on one of the local news outlets. It looked worse than the last time I was there 2 years ago.

A man charged with starting one of the wildfires in Spokane, Washington, that have destroyed hundreds of buildings planned the crime for weeks and researched when the weather would be best for igniting it, police said.
In an interview after his arrest, Aaron Farinacci said “fire is powerful, beautiful, and that things that go through fire experience a kind of rebirth,” Spokane County Detective Michael Drapeau wrote in a court filing Wednesday.
Farinacci, 37, is charged with starting the Old Trails fire, one of three blazes in the Spokane area that have burned more than 850 buildings, destroying whole neighborhoods and streets. Tens of thousands of people were forced to evacuate and many still can’t return home. No deaths or serious injuries have been reported.
Farinacci is also charged in connection with four smaller fires ignited in the summer of 2025 and last month.
He was scheduled to be arraigned on five first-degree arson charges Thursday, but his lawyer asked for a competency evaluation before he enters a plea. Spokane Superior Court Judge Jeremy Schmidt said he would review that request. He set bond for $2 million, ruling that Farinacci was a risk to community safety, a flight risk and that there was potential for a violent offense.
Defense attorney Colin Charbonneau did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

The other really sad thing is that most people have NOT increased their replacement values on their homeowners insurance policies. Since rebuilding costs and home values have gone through the roof in the last 6 years, some will not be able to afford to rebuild.
REVIEW your insurance policies people!!! That's YOUR responsibility not the insurance companies.

That is true, probably in most cases, but insurance has also skyrocketed and many folks can't afford it with their tax burden also being too high. If you have a mortgage, aren't you required to have replacement value?

The next big issue I see coming is people not able to rebuild for years
Spokane is ill equipped to handle the garbage and toxic waste these fires generated and their communist mayor is going to favor developments for the “poor” (read: druggies) or take cash bribes for data centers and slow walk rebuilding for middle to upper class white people who live in these neighborhoods

Probably the majority of working pet owners who lived in Paradise lost their pets in that firestorm because almost everyone worked "down the mountain" in Chico, and the firestorm was raging on both sides of the road that went down that mountain. People were trapped below the town and could only watch as cars, buses, and trucks (like the borrowed one my mentor was in) raced down the road, sometimes coming in covered in flames.
There was NO WAY anyone could get "back up" there to retrieve their pets or indeed their livestock if they were away from their ranches and farms.
Very few people simply abandon their pets during fires; in fact, many States changed their laws on shelters years ago when it was discovered that a huge portion of people who ended up dying in these fires were pet and livestock owners who refused to leave their animals when told they could not evacuate with them or take them with them to shelters. The same proved to be true in hurricane evacuations; that, and the horrific scenes after Katrina of the "authorities" shooting pets people did manage to bring out with them again, helped change a lot of policies. I think of those as Snowball's laws - after the tiny dog torn from a child's arms and put down as he got on an evacuation bus.
So of course, everyone plans to take Fluffy, Fido, and Flicka with them when they run for their lives; but you can't get them if you are not home and there's a firestorm between you and them. Or as often happens, a cat bolts before you can catch them; a dog may do the same (but dogs often will come back when called, cats usually won't) or the fire comes so quickly that all you can do is open the horse stable and slap Flicka to get her to run for it.
As I've said before, if this happens, leave your door open as you leave, as cats are the most likely pet to survive a firestorm either by going high up in a tree or hiding in a deep hole (or in one case I know of, inside an old cast iron stove).
My heart goes out to everyone caught in these fires, and what I want to say about the jerk that started them is unprintable.

When I was working for the insurance agency, I know Auto-Owners was gradually re-assessing every home they insured (using drones, online media, a home-valuation online program they use--I think it was called CoreLogic--to estimate the rebuild cost based on materials and labor, etc.) to determine the current value of a home. Most were going up quite extensively.

I've been terrified of this for decades, as every year gets drier and drier in the earth itself, water table dropping, reservoirs lowering. I kayak and see the water going away.
Praying for all of us, Now thousands displaced, whole communities burning to the ground.

Can I assume that the Federal Government and FEMA and other agencies are even now swooping into Eastern Washington State bringing help and money and assistance to those who have lost everything. There seems to be plenty for the drug addicts, the Somali scammers got $80 Billion+, rotten politicians working at bars and bankrupt now multi-millionaires driving new Teslas. So, clearly the FEDS with the bottomless bank accounts are assisting those AMERICANS who lost everything because a Lib Judge set a murdering psycho loose on society. Not that I’m upset. My daughter and her husband were building their retirement dream home north of Spokane. Were.

The Dem politicians in Washington are already pulling a Southern California slow roll on this as I understand it. Need the proper permits. Need permission(s). Need the Democrat OK. From what I have seen of the drug addicts in Spokane it looks like the taxpayers are giving them free food, needles and possibly drugs. Most of these people are in such bad shape they could not work. Stop the free food, needles and treating the drug overdoses. That would be the fastest way for the city to get back on track. Of course, that will never happen with the socialist/communist mayor and city government. too much money is being spent on police and ambulances handling drug overdose calls.
