From my tablet and bad streaming. I am in Amarillo and the smoke is thick. Several towns have been evacuated, US 287 closed, I 40 closed. Canadian, Texas evacuated.

200,000 acres, cold winds approaching, I hope I do not have to evacuate from this truck stop. Mitch's BBQ brisket sounds good about now.

Unfortunately this happens from time to time in he Texas Panhandle. I lived in or near Amarillo for over 40 years before moving to Missouri. I've watched ranchers drive cattle through a barbed wire fence into a neighboring plowed field because there was no time to cut the fence to escape the fire. I worked in radio and television there and helped cover these types of events.

Growing up, I used a hose or wet burlap bags to protect our house from grass fires on multiple occasions.

Wildland fires are so frightening. We have our share here also. We keep a travel trailer just so that we have something to load our important things and papers in, in case of evacuation.

Neither here nor there.
I'm in central Iowa, we're back under a Red Flag warning until late tomorrow night... There's like four main roads out of town, so the thought of a wild fire hitting us is incredibly worrying... population 60K not inlcuding the 3oK+ students at the university.
