So she is getting more into prepping and wanting to buy these seen at link below and what it is they are selling is a ring that snaps onto a 5 gallon pail and has a separate lid that screws into the ring and seals the pail, the idea is easy access to the contents without having to pry the lid off each time. So has anyone here seen or used these? Also what do you think, good idea or not worth it?

We have a few of those lids and like them; I don't think we paid $9 apiece for them, though. I think we got them from Sportsman's Guide for around $7 .

I can see shopping around for a better price and good I have one vote in favor of these.

Gamma Seal lids are quite useful. I bought a few from Emergency Essentials, then discovered that I can buy them cheaper from industrial packaging and plastic suppliers (perhaps U-line, I just googled "gamma seal lid"). They're still pricey, but worth it.

Not for every 5 gallon bucket of course. But, for the buckets we use on a regular basis. We keep oat meal, rice, and other things that we use and require opening a bucket for every week or so. We also use them to store misc food that we leave at the cabin to keep varmits out of it, everything from coffee and coolaid to everything that's sold in a cardboard package. They're also great for storage of non-food items such as cache containers that you can open without tools.

We use different color lids so it's obvious which bucket contains what.

Maybe not the best thing since sliced bread, but they definitely are handy to have. Here's another vote FOR. We use a couple of 5 gallon buckets in the kitchen as canisters to hold flour and sugar. They are opened several times daily, and the gamma lids show no sign of wear. Love them.

I love them, but have had several break when stacked more than 2 high. For "working" buckets, they're great.

Yeah, I looked online and didn't find anything much cheaper than that. Prices have gone up on those like anything else I guess.

Menards also has them for $6.97. I really like the lids but they are so expensive I've had to limit the number I buy.

I've got some and find the handy. Glad to read about the stacking issue. I've not done that and will avoid it. As said, they're great for frequent use items.

Yeah old thread, but we've have a pile of these Gamma Lids and yesterday we decided we need to put up more dry foods and went hunting for 5 gallon buckets and Walmart has them in the Hardware section and they have different colors to pick from! Blue, Gray, White and Pink we picked up two of each color for $2.99 Each thats 40 gallons of sealed storage space. So 8 Buckets for $23.92 + tax.

I agree on the gamma lids, but I only have one. I also buy my buckets at walmart. I get the regular snap on lids and I don't stack my buckets. I'm using 1/2 gallon mason jars for my working out of containers.

Our local Walmart carries the 1/2 gallon canning/mason jars and we have a small collection of them and like you we find them useful for dry storage.

problem you have is that food storage requires food grade buckets >>> those Wally world buckets are just paint buckets ...

Not related to Gamma lids, but stumbled on these, and thought they would be of interest for opening buckets. I use normal lids on 5 gallon pails for reloading brass storage, and these look really handy for regular lid removal. Currently $3.00 each.

I bought some years back and none of them tightly fit my buckets. Ring and lid spin easily while on the buckets which make them pretty useless.
