When people are dying of thirst in the desert, a single glass of water is something they will all fight for.

That's what you're seeing. Evidently, you don't jnderstsand that.

Actually, I do understand. I see that there is a sizable bloc of voters who are so desperate for a candidate to say what they want to hear, that they will line up to support him almost unquestioningly. Even if the guy offering them what they want to hear, that glass of water, if you will, is Donald Trump, a man who, until June, 2015, had neither a drop of water nor even a glass for those whose votes he now seeks.

That's what makes it so sad, really.

I was right. You're the smartest one in the room, and all of us crazies (or hobbits?) who like Trump's message are lining up to support him "unquestioningly". The fact that many of us have researched his positions, read what he said in the past and now, watched interview, even read his book/s - means nothing. Your know it all attitude is quite striking.

As usual from you an excellent reply about sums it up for me. My votes never ever ever counted to begin with.
Obviously I won't be voting in your presidential election, at least to my knowledge I won't be :groucho:

But I have nothing against Mr Trump, seems like a no nonsense kinda guy, not watched any of his shows as I don't do reality shows, but he knows business, he's pumped a lot of money into the golf course he bought in County Clare ( Doonbeg )

BUT... I'm weary of any figure who garners the kind of fanatical followers that Mr Trump seems to be gaining, as Obama did before him, as Jeremy Corbyn is doing in the UK with the Labour Party leadership race,
As Obama gained a fanatical following first time around not just from the usual lefty ding bats but and the followers of the latest fashion but also from those that were sick of Bush, I see Mr Trump gaining a flowing of those who are sick of Obama, even though they may not agree with him, and then the followers of what ever is hip at the time will join in,

Maybe it's the Trumpbots putting me off same as the Obots but I just find it creepy to have that much love for a public figure,

BUT (yeah another one  ) it does make sense to have a successful businessman (or woman) running the country instead of a professional politician who's never actually worked in the real world,

There, clear as mud :D

His vote for a professional lifelong politiwhore is assured IMO.

Consider the nation as a ship. Sometimes the phrase "ship of state" has been used, IIRC. Consider the president as a captain. The captain all by himself can obviously not run a ship. But he definitely has an impact on how the ship is run, the course, whether to avoid the iceberg if it can be avoided and so on. When the perfect storm is upon us, with icebergs, sand shoals, mines and enemy subs, I think it matters a lot who the captain is.

So, people who don't vote are saying "it doensn't matter who the captain is - Trump, Biden, Jerry Brown, Sanders, Cruz, or Bush, the outcome will be exactly the same".

I so disagree with that words cannot say.

I positively agree with your "Ship Analogy". The captain is "The Man" and he can make the decisions that only he can make. Only we can elect our captain. I'm for Trump. If his name is on the ballot he's got my vote.

As I recall, Reagan's metamorphosis from Democrat to Republican was gradual, occurring over some period of years in the late 1940s and through the 1950s. His previously liberal thinking was influenced by the conservative, pro-business philosophies of the management at General Electric, which hired him as a motivational speaker. (There was a time when management at GE wasn't infested by raving liberal loons like it is now.) But it didn't happen overnight; Reagan remained a nominal Democrat until 1962, although he had endorsed Eisenhower and Nixon for president in 1956 and 1960, respectively. Reagan's experience as governor of California that illustrated his conservative leanings, something that Trump doesn't have.

We should note that for all of his rhetoric, Reagan as governor was more practical and less doctrinaire; he balanced the state budget by combining tax increases with a hiring freeze on state workers. Early in his first term, he signed legislation called the "Therapeutic Abortion Act," which permitted abortions in cases where the life or health of the mother was in question, a decision he said he later came to regret. In 1967, Reagan signed legislation repealing the law that permitted the carrying of loaded firearms in public, which was probably a good idea, given the social unrest of the times, even if the measure didn't serve to advance the interests of 2nd Amendment advocates.

Reagan didn't become a conservative immediately, with a snap of the proverbial fingers. In some cases, it appears he had to make the kind of mistakes when he was governor that served as exemplars of "what not to do" once he was elected President.

The Donald, on the other hand, apparently has some kind of political/philosophical light switch he can throw at will. Yesterday, in May, 2015, he was a Democrat; in June, 2015...

And with that lie, you prove your utter ignorance. His view changed over the years, not all of a sudden. I'm not referring to party affiliation, but viewpoints. He became pro-life, for instance, around 2000. Is that "poof"? If you would take time to read a lot and listen a lot, your viewpoint might change. But you'd have to have an open enough mind to think "Maybe I don't know everything. Maybe it would be a good idea to read what Trump has said and listen and see if maybe, just maybe, I'm wrong". The Trump on the Issues thread has a lot of information.

But, if you want to remain in your little dreamworld of being the smartest person in the room, and the rest of us are stupid crazies and hobbits, that is your free will.

ETA: G. Washington was opposed to political parties. I posted an article about R state politcal entities trying to restrict Trump from getting on the ballot by pushing "party unity". Parties be damned. What's important is sound philosophy of governance based on the constitution and natural law. So what if Trump was a member of the Ds, the Rs and the Reform Party at various times. At least he was never a member of the Greens or the Communist party!

No Trump, no vote and I'll tell you why. Anyone who doesn't recognize America is being turned into a third world country is a) either corrupt, b) corrupt and one of them or c) in wonder land making them incompetent. Trump isn't perfect, but he is a fighter and brings to light (directly and indirectly) these issues. Also, we can rule out that he is doing it for "money". Once you have all that money your biggest concerns are anti-aging. Anti-aging and medical cures are being suppressed / lept from the masses and this could be why once he announced he was running holistic and corrupt exposure doctors started getting killed.

Trumps isn't the type of the guy that hides when this happens, he adds names to his 'lisst'.

Realize it or not, America is under attack. We need a general type, not a sunflower.

I decided to try and find articles from several years ago about Trump. There are a few but it is remarkably difficult to find them given he is in the news all the time. Were they scrubbed or are my internet searching abilities a bit limited. Either could be true. I am posting links to the articles as I am not very good at posting the entire article. Sorry. I am sure that those who love Trump will find articles to glorify their guy. Wouldn't expect anything else. But this thread is about not liking Trump as a candidate so I freely admit I went looking for the negative stuff.

Trump's party affiliation: As I read this article I got the distinct feeling that Trump's people did a lot of research and provided him with the info he needed to choose the party of the moment. I had to laugh. Trump himself said he became a Dem because he had a lot of friends in the Democratic party. Trump does what he has to do to win...whether winning is in business, his personal life or now in politics. I personally believe (opinion here so deal with it) he says what he thinks the voters want and it isn't about love of country. It is about love of Trump, power and money. I could be wrong.
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertai...al-presidential-bid-2009-doc-article-1.136213

Trump's various lawsuits: The man appears to be a 'lawsuit machine'. One lawsuit with a big bank that loaned him money was to allow Trump to delay payment on a loan because of the recession. Now that is interesting because the lawsuit tends to point to his inability to pay. Another lawsuit is done because someone understated his wealth and he said that had a negative impact on his business dealings. So on one hand he sues and says he can't pay and on the other he sues and said anyone saying he doesn't have basically unlimited wealth deserves to be destroyed financially. Again my opinion. Other lawsuits were also interesting. The opinion I formed from this info is that Trump uses his money and power to shut people up by intimidation and bullying. Trump supporters may see all these lawsuits as just protecting his assets. I don't. I see a bully that will go to great lengths to get what he wants or destroy someone who disagrees with him.

Religion; I've stated elsewhere that the candidate I vote for needs to put God first and I think Trump puts himself first. He answers to Trump...not God. We have all read about the location of bibles gifted to Trump. We now know he goes to church on holidays. We know he is a Presbyterian. But one thing he appears to never say is Jesus Christ. That bothers me since he is presenting himself as a Christian. Again, I come away from my brief search with the idea that Trump is saying what he thinks we all want to hear. He wants the Christian voting block. I think he is giving us lip service. Again, could be wrong.

Charity: Finding articles about Trump's generosity and caring for the least fortune among us are difficult to find. As I read the linked article one thing struck me. He gave $250 to Special Olympics. Coupled with his family cancelling health insurance for a profoundly handicapped relative, could it be that Trump feels the 'less beautiful' in this world don't deserve charity. While some read the article about cancelling the baby's health insurance as a messy family battle I saw it as using the defenseless child to get back at the parents. One of the wealthiest men in the world and probably one of the cheapest. Maybe that isn't important...but for me it tells me that he only is charitable when it is beneficial to Trump.

I don't like Trump and the more I listen to him the less I like him. He is smart...just like Obama. He surrounds himself with smart people that are loyal to him...just like Obama. He has 'tested the waters' and knows that Americans are fed up and also knows exactly what we want to hear....just like Obama. He is saying what he knows we want to hear...just as Obama did in his campaign. But in the end, if he becomes president, will any of us matter to him if a decision that is best for the country isn't best for Donald Trump? I guess we many find out and I sincerely hope my feelings about this man are wrong. Obama no longer worries about keeping up appearances. Something tells me the same will happen with Trump. I do believe that Obama is someone else's public figure and there is a lot of power behind his throne. With Trump he is the power and those behind the throne answer to him. But both know what we want to hear and both are using the vulnerability and frustration of Americans to manipulate us. As usual. My opinion based on what I have read and what I have heard Trump say.

I don't have time at the moment to inspect every article as you haven't posted quotes from them, just links. One thing is that Trump is very generous, he just doesn't publicize it. He gave a million bucks if NYC would do matching funds, to pay for a 1995 parade on the 50th anniversary of the end of WW2, for vets, and marched in the parade. He gives freely to vet organizations, and individual vets. He gave $$ to that Marine imprisoned in MX and helped get him out. That's just a few I know of. You say he's one of the cheapest, you actually have no idea. He has said that when people ask him for money for good causes, he just writes a check and hands it over, he doesn't necessariy keep track.

You claim he's not a "real" or "good enough" Christian. You think he is lying about being a Christian. You keep mentioning something about Bibles that he kept in another city, now they're gift Bibles. HOw many Bibles can one person have in their residence anyway? You think articles have been scrubbed from the interent to support him. Now that's just plain nuts. Google is not going to scrub articles that make Trump look bad!

You think he's a bully because he is a alpha male businessman. Not everyone has the character for succeeding in business, I sure don't, I hate that stuff. It's a shark infested sea out there, you have to be aggressive to succeed. So he's not a shrinking violet.

You think he's lying and just saying what voters want in an effort to gain power and money. Well, he has power and money without being president, and he's spending his own money to run, not having much time to oversee his business.

Your arguments make no sense, and because you think, apparently, that he's not a "real" Christian, you strive to see flaws and your mind invents them. You say you could be wrong, and if you take your blinders off and just read the info that is all over TB2, you might be able to discern better about him.

Have you read the Trump on the Issues thread? It's only 3 or 4 pages. You should read the whole thing carefully.

But since the main question was why we Hate/fear/distrust Trump I can answer that.

I do not hate or fear him, I distrust him.

...

He has yet to discuss any real constitutional issues. has not discussed some of the major issues that face us. He has never really discussed reducing Govt, quite the opposite, he wants to triple the amount of border patrol agents. he has never made mention of using the military to stop the invaders from the south. he has never once considered dissolving the IRS, the Fed, or any other agency that i know of. He has yet to address the NSA, the patriot act, NDAA. He has not come out and denounced Govt. run healthcare.

In short, I believe he is a scorpion. We all know what it is that scorpions do.

Damn good post.

What I find fascinating is that Trump is an absolute "love him or hate him" guy. There is almost no middle ground on people's feelings toward him. Which mirrors who he is as a person actually. We're seeing, live and in color, why no politician ever actually SAYS ANYTHING. If they do, someone is bound to be offended or turned off to them. So by saying nothing and promising everything, they try to garner enough votes to get elected. These "politiwhores" as I call them, NEED the money and the power that goes with elected office. Trump DOES NOT. In his current role of business mogul, he has far more money and power than any politician will, ever. There is absolutely NOTHING for him to gain in all this. There are some who say that he's in it for ego and self-aggrandizement. Well, I can live with that AS LONG AS he does a better job at running the country than has been done since Reagan left office.

And I am willing to make a leap of faith that that will happen. Because none of the others running will do anything other than what's currently being done. Because they're ALL politiwhores. The only difference among them is to the degree of that "whoreness".

I have said before on several threads: I don't trust him. I don't particularly like him. But the fact that the political elites ACROSS THE BOARD are absolutely in terror of him, gives his run (and character) a legitimacy that the ENTIRE POLITICAL CLASS lacks. And I'll roll the dice on that bet.

I have read Trump on the issues. Everything he says makes me think...this is my guy. But as many have stated...there is something not quite right. A bit off. He portrays himself as the perfect candidate. Maybe he is and I am wrong. Or maybe I am right. I respect the opinions of those who feel Trump is the right guy for this country right now. But, just as others read articles and form opinions, I have the right to do that and I would hope that even though you disagree, you would respect my right to have that opinion. As for striving to find flaws...Of course I do that. I do that with all the candidates. Isn't that part of what we are supposed to do even if we are looking for the flaws in our favorite candidate?

It is interesting. I have a few friends who do love Trump and we talk a lot about where we differ about it. No one gets snarky or sarcastic about a differing opinion. No one finds it necessary to put others down for differing beliefs. In fact, the opposite is true. Each person genuinely listens and doesn't take it as a challenge to prove the other wrong. I was on the Trump bandwagon for a while...just as I was with Obama. But the more I read and listened, the more I felt that things were not as they appear. I can understand why people support Trump. On the surface he is appears to be a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, I have come to conclusion that breath of fresh air is only skin deep and there is something much less appealing at the soul of the man.

Be Well, you make a lot of assumptions about my feelings. You are good at misinterpreting what I am saying and there is really no way to defend my position simply because you read what you want to read. I'm sure you will have a come back to this post. I've tried to explain my position and also say I could be wrong. I've tried to say that what I am saying is my opinion as I don't really know that my opinion is fact. I've tried to give the Trump supporters the benefit of the doubt but all you do is challenge and want a fight...or so it seems. Again, I could be wrong.

You also make assumptions about what I mean. Example: Because I said Trump appears to be a bully you think I am condemning someone with an alpha personality. Didn't say that at all. The two words are not synonymous.

It could be that my arguments make no sense to you because you don't want them to make sense. If you were/are looking for the truth it seems logical that you will admit you could be wrong. I have no idea if I am right or wrong. Again...they are my opinions and not necessarily fact. I suspect they are close to the truth but I am not so foolish to think that I can sort out the bs from the truth in every article I read or speech that I hear. So I tend to take everything with a grain of salt and hope that I am objective enough to at least consider those things I either don't believe or don't want to believe.

I will never win a discussion with you Be Well because winning this discussion isn't important to me. Endless debate with each side digging in their heals defending their position isn't my goal. Finding the truth about the candidates is my goal so I listen to everything and try very hard to form an objective opinion. If you want endless debate that goes round and round with no one changing their mind...find someone else. That person isn't me.

The main place I got my info is from a site called "On the Issues", and I copied all the info about Trump from that site, which is a non-partisan site that researches ALL candidates, using direct quotes and when they have been in office, their voting record, on a wide range of issues.

It's so funny. So many of the people who hate Trump know literally nothing about him.

I just don't have time to read your whole response, but I will later. When people say "something is not right" it generally means, IMHO, 'feelings". I do not trust "feelings". Unless a person uses self knowledge and introspection to find out where those feelings are coming from and examines them to see if they are valid or not

In the case of people who do not trust Trump and think he's actually lying about everything just to get votes, I think they're put off by his vast wealth and opulent life style, or his aggressive macho fighter personality.

(I posted a thread a few days about the second issues, you might fight it interesting.)

I'll be back later....
