I was excited waiting for Trump to get to the microphone this weekend in Alabama. While the hype was climactic The Rolling Stones "Sympathy for the Devil" was being blasted to the crowd.

If you’ve ever listened to it you know the lyrics. I got to thinking … this is a bad song for a billionaire presidential candidate. Just sayin, it got me thinking.

Sympathy For The Devil
By The Rolling Stones

*excerpt*

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul to waste
And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name

…

But what's confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint

So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, mm yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, mm yeah

I thought it was a very weird song to play.

Could mean that people believe Trump is the devil and we should have sympathy for him in turn. Or he could be telegraphing his punch, that he's the devil's candidate, so to speak. Possibilities abound.

I'm just enjoying the whole Trump show here...how it translates into a successful political campaign, I guess we will see soon enough.

The observation was offered that Trump isn't a political whore, and I guess that's true enough.

Rather...he is a political john, i.e., the customer who purchases the services of the political whore. But he's still trafficking in political prostitution, a point he made crystal clear in the first debate.

I'd still like to know when this northeastern liberal suddenly became this rock-ribbed issues-oriented conservative firebrand, after 69 years of being essentially a milquetoast liberal who favored abortion on demand, open borders and a very narrow view on private property rights (he praised the Kelo decision a few years back, saying something to the effect of "If I can make more money with your property than you can, I should be able to have the government give it to me.")

Suddenly...in his 70th year on this earth, he's a born-again conservative.

If he's the Republican nominee, I may well support his candidacy. But until then, you'll have to pardon my skepticism regarding Donald Trump.

I don't think you addressed the points I made to you yesterday. Now you're throwing out another bomb....could you please back up your statement with something other than feelings?

Must have missed your comments yesterday. But in truth, I don't think anything else I had to say would really matter to the Trump supporters. Everyone has their opinions based on how they interpret what is being said. Nothing more than opinions...on both side.

As for the whore comment I was sort of joking. Read the article the other day that he cheated on his wife with a porn star and the remark seemed 'loosely' appropriate. My guess is the man doesn't have the most upstanding morals but I don't have proof, can't quote anything. Just going by what he seems to think is important in his personal life and even that is an opinion with no proof.

For what it's worth, I'm not going to vote for Trump in the primary but I would vote for him fifteen times in the regular election if he is the conservative candidate.

I asked very specific questions about things you said, and woudl be interested in your answers. Seriously. I think that depending on feelings without any factual information to support them is not a wise position.

You really have no clue about his positions or views and how they have changed over decades. All your comments do is reveal the depth of your ignorance about him.

I'm with HFComms (always loved your posts man !).

Trump will lead us into World War 3 - of this, I have little doubt.

He is a childish, arrogant, pompous fake-haired, know-it-all blowhard who has never admitted to a making a mistake in his entire life.

In short, he is everything the American people are, love and adore. He is EVERYTHING they deserve.

Think about it - America's #1 Reality TV Star becomes the Next President.

This is Idiocracy come right to Real Life.

And your alternative to Trump is the dumbest politician in history - Joe Butthead Biden.

You couldn't make this shit up LOL

So tell us all what preistly man you think is right for president? Inquiring minds want to know.

Oh, and do you intend to vote?

How about a "I would vote for him IF..." This could be applied to perhaps 2 others on the list as well.

He ( as with the 2 others ) leaves some of us wanting. Could that be an option?

The poll is putting Cruz out in front, I'll gladly vote for him if Trump goes by the wayside.

If its a Trump/Cruz ticket, I'll vote twice....while doing the happy-dance

LOL @ Dennis - Trump of course ! (you need to read my other posts to understand that)

Or no one at all as I generally inhabit Blue states, there usually is little point in voting.

Actually, I have a fair idea about his stated positions...at least the ones that seem to interest you and most of his acolytes here.

Said positions date from June, 2015, and no earlier.

I view 2008 as the year America chose to give in to its cancer. Everything from here on out is for nothing but show and play. Ain't no power in the 'verse gonna save this sinking ship.

The noose is around our necks and we're standing on our tip-toes.

Get where you want to be when the machine grinds to a halt. You're going to be there for a long time.

This, exactly. It's all bread and circuses to keep us distracted while Rome begins burning.

No one - NO ONE - is coming to save us and return the country to its glory days. Not Trump, not Cruz, not Carson, not any of them. Get that idea out of your heads right now. It's far too late for wishful thinking. Vote for whoever makes you feel better, but understand that it's a completely empty gesture. All that's left now is keeping you and yours quietly safe until the ashes cool.

Trump amuses me with how mouthy and snarky he is, but entertainment is all he's likely to provide. We might as well enjoy the show on the way down.

But since the main question was why we Hate/fear/distrust Trump I can answer that.

I do not hate or fear him, I distrust him.

For those of you NOT from the North East, this may or not make sense to you

For YEARS we have seen trump in his many , many forms. He has been 1st and formost a business person. He got a huge head start with this. In and of itself this is not a bad thing, many get a head start and do nothing with it. He has.
Some of it has been luck, some of it hard work. Some of it has been because he was a snake. He is a master promoter, 2/3 bullshit 1/3 substance.
This is the good stuff for him.

He has been a lifelong Democrat. Not just a run of the mill Democrat but a NY Democrat. He has supported the party and it's members financially, at rallies, use of his name recognition. He has never supported a NY Republican in any real sense, other than Rudy Guilianni after his 1st term. This was more motivated by business interest than anything else and was very transparent. In NJ, where his casino's were located, he was a huge proponent of Democrat Governors and even came to the defense of Jim Mcgreevy saying he did no wrong other than being gay and that those going after him were just homophobes.
He has never supported a true conservative. He has never supported a true constitutionalist.

It almost seems, to those of us that know his many faces, that he was bored and decided to stir up some trouble ( to his credit he has and in a number of good ways) and run for POTUS. His "Evolution" is just a bit to fantastical when you look at his previous positions on things. These have been mulled over time and again, no need to bring them up again.

He has made some good speeches putting forth some very populist ideas. he saw the reaction from the masses and doubled down. it is what he does, he watches for the direction of the wind and puts his sail up to catch it. The direction is not as important to him as the wind itself. This is what any good salesman does. you become what the person or in this case people want you to become, as long as you get what you want.

His affiliations and explanations of them just don't hold water most of the time.

A 180 degree turn around is possible, yet not probable in such a short time. This is a feeling, a gut feeling that one gets when one knows the person proclaiming it.

He has yet to discuss any real constitutional issues. has not discussed some of the major issues that face us. He has never really discussed reducing Govt, quite the opposite, he wants to triple the amount of border patrol agents. he has never made mention of using the military to stop the invaders from the south. he has never once considered dissolving the IRS, the Fed, or any other agency that i know of. He has yet to address the NSA, the patriot act, NDAA. He has not come out and denounced Govt. run healthcare.

In short, I believe he is a scorpion. We all know what it is that scorpions do.

Wow. A Trump hater who also hates all the Americans who agree with him and/or at least appreciate his guts and telling truth to power.

Ooooookay. Do you think we're "crazies" like John McCain said?

He has supported Rs in recent elections, I don't know names. BTW he has been a D, and R and Reform party, I think changed several times. I agree, supporting McGreevey is disgusting. If you are accurate, and it would probably be too hard for you to find quotes at this point. Or maybe not.

IF you read the Trump on the issues, you would find that his views have turned quite conservative starting many years ago. He became pro-life around 15 yrs ago IIRC.

Hmm, more ignorance. He specifically referenced the Constitution in his Immigration plan. He has certainly discussed reducing gov, including the EPA, Dept. of Education, talked about way simplifying taxes (which woudl automatically reduce the IRS), and he has denounced 0bunghole Care. All that just off the top of my head.

You don't read much, do you. Your statements are not based on factual information.

So - to you, tripling the number of BP agents to stop the Mex flood is a BAD THING?

Tripling ANYTHING in GOVT is bad, other than cutting spending and agencies.

What do you do with them after they have taken out the invaders? Make them sweep streets?

Hey listen just because you are moist for the guy doesn't mean that I am ignorant. Keep it up. He was FOR obozocare before, as well as single payer, it is only now that he has changed.

Anything else so far has been vague , nothing at all in a concrete sense.

That was not the question. Again, it was a support "IF" question.

And I'd support some of the others IF monkeys came flying out their butts. Your position is without merit. You fail to define your "ifs" and who you'd apply those ifs to.

Thats what I asked if it was appropriate.

I would be happy to list them if it is along with whom.

No need to get testy and be an asshole , read the question first.

You haven't seen the asshole side of me. And if you ever do, it will be only once. And you're a cocksure little bastard to be calling me an asshole in MY LIVING ROOM.

If you want to list them, list them. I won't change the poll to suit your "special snowflake" status however...

If I had to vote today I'd probably vote for Trump. There's a red flag that keeps popping up in the back of my mind about him. Time will tell.

As far as I know he isn't a member of any of the 'ruling' groups that make the world decisions although I'm sure he knows most of them.

They've been trying to turn the US into a corporation for a long time. Maybe Trump is their guy?

Forget it. It was a reasonable question to which you feel threatened about obviously. And yes, I am cocksure but I assure you not a bastard.
And yes I think I have seen your asshole side. You are rather one dimensional. Too bad, i had thought more of you.
Do as you will.

You must be young. All mouth, no brains. This thread is "safe" for you to mouth off. But - I'm watching you from now on. I absolutely loathe arrogant pr*cks like you appear to be. In the end, you'll self-destruct, like all your kind....

What he said.

I don't hate Trump (or anybody who supports him, for whatever reason.)

As I said...if he's the GOP nominee, I may well be voting for him in November, 2016. I'm certainly not ruling it out.

But petedtom had it nailed for me with this observation:

At this point, the Donald is telling his supporters what they want to hear. And they're eating it up with the proverbial spoon. He has identified his market and he's giving his customers what they want. Something like a teetotaler who owns a liquor store...he doesn't much care to indulge in anything he sells; but he knows what his thirsty customers want. And he's there to sell it to them.

My point is that he just opened this particular boozatorium around June, 2015, after 69 years of being in some other business. But all he had to do was put up the signs and open the doors...and the "customers" came a-runnin'. :lkick:

When people are dying of thirst in the desert, a single glass of water is something they will all fight for.

That's what you're seeing. Evidently, you don't understand that.

You were the one being arrogant. I asked a question. I did so as too not mess up the idea of the thread if that was what you did not want. I see that you mistake that for being a prick.

No wonder you would support Trump.

i think I detected a common theme among Trump haters. They think they are the smartest person in the room and that anyone who doesn't hate Trump is a stupid sucker. And also this odd meme that if someone says a message that appeals to others, as Trump is doing, the person saying the message is lying just to trick us.

That is very odd. I think arrogance is at play in this Trump hatred. As in "I'm so vastly superior in intelligence, only *I* can see through the sham, everyone else is a low IQ fool".

As a neutral observer, I would say that you win the "prick" title without any competition.
