My post about gyros got me to thinking. Not a good thing.

What's your favorite type/ethnicity/regional food?

Mediterranean is my favorite, hands down! Tons of veggies, a little pasta here and there, loaves and loaves of crusty bread, dipped in various tangy sauces! Oh, man, I'm killing myself here--I'm starving!

So is Italian considered "Mediterranean"? Yup, love the crusty bread. Could make a meal out of it alone. Pasta? Ooooooo.... love that.... any "flavor".... olives, ah yes!!!! Sauce?? Oh my gosh, I'm salivating here!!! I've never met an Italian dish I didn't like. :spns:

Rafter, I have no idea if Med food is supposed to be good for you. It should, though, because of the many veggies, seafood, etc used. I used to eat like that, then married DH. He's a steak and tater, grease and gravy, and processed food kind of guy. So I end up eating like him most of the time for whatever reason. I feel like crap. When I eat what I like, I feel good. When I eat what he likes, I feel like crap.

Personally, I think different types of food are good for different types of people. I have no science to back that up with--it's just something I've thought for a few years now.

Once our garden is going better next year (wasn't enough time this year to grow all we wanted), we'll be more Med-like in our eating. I'll see to that! :D

Here's a little summary of Med food I found:

Ethnic - definitely Italian is my favorite.

Regional has got to be NY, where I grew up. There are certain things there that just aren't the same anywhere else, IMHO. The pizza, for one. Potato salad from Meyers Deli in Baldwin is another. Corned beef sandwiches from that big Kosher deli chain whose name escapes me at the moment (begins with M, I keep thinking Manischewitz but thats not it  ) . Raynor's fried chicken, too.

While I'm mostly glad I got out of NY I get homesick thinking about the food.

Outside of ethnic and regional specialities, I like anything that is likely to kill me .

Thanks booger for the sites...I'm going to dig into them later. I had heard about a Mediteranian diet being good for you, I can't wait to look the recipes over! :)

Tweakette, you've made me hungry for home - lol. Cheesesteaks, NY style pizza, Manhattan bagels, hoagies, real corned beef sandwiches with lots of meat and dressing from the deli, mmmmm. I gained 10 pounds just thinking about it. :spns:

My favorite food is pizza, though I never had it until I was in high school. And the best pizza I've ever had is from Fast Eddy's in Tok, Alaska -- a wide spot in the road where left takes you to Anchorage, straight on takes you to Fairbanks, and neither one is very close! I don't eat pizza very often any more, though, because gluten-free crusts can't really compare to wheat. I like tacos, too, and smoked salmon, chef salad, peas and new carrots right out of the garden -- my tastes in food are pretty eclectic, really. Turkey and stuffing is good, Grandma's cranberry sauce with orange in it is excellent, well, not much I don't like, really!

Foreign:East Indian. Ex-hub's Ma and sister taught me.

Homestyle: Meat and potatoes, specifically, venison.
That's food fit for a King and Queen!

Steak!

Love northern Chinese (the spicy kind), Mexican, Italian, Greek, American, food...

I just served a brunch of steamed shrimp, leg of lamb, risotto, Mexican eggs, French coffee cake, fruit salad, asparagus and Mimosas. Hows that for diversity?
