Prep Genrl What's your favorite instant coffee?

I have a good amount of coffee, including instant in my preps. My favorite has always been Community Coffee & Chickory. I like strong coffee.

Today I was watching a video of the Patriot Nurse. She mentioned Taster's Choice/Nescafe. It must be popular with preppers. The price is way high. On Amazon its close to $20, says its 100 cups for a 7 oz jar. On Walmart its possible to get it a bit less and on Ebay a similiar price.

I have a few different brands in instant, but was thinking to add something different to the stash. At those prices I won't be adding much.

Opinions of this would be nice, although keep snarky comments to yourself, I'm an old woman and not amused by them.

We don't drink instant coffee, so I don't have any in storage. I've never drank much instant. We like the large jugs of Folgers medium roast from Sam's. If I had to go with one, it would probably be Folgers instant. Staying with what I know.

Gosh, Judy, whodathunk you weren't amused by snarky comments? :xpnd: Anyways, I'm not all that big on instant coffee but I do like the Nescafe Clasico (has the red cup on the label). I have some Folger's and whatever else in preps as well as some green coffee beans but that'll be a science experiment one of these days, I guess. The instant is handy to put into small packets and vacuum-pack them to get them into a get-home bag.

I suspect when it gets down to it, I doubt I'll be near as picky about my coffee as I am at the present.

Dollar General has/had jars for a $1 >>> taste checked it when I first started buying it - some of the same stuff the hotels provide gratis - I brew for my daily cups but would want something caffeine & quik for SHTF times - besides it's one of the better trade items to have around ...

Judy, I don't drink coffee so I can't speak personally. However, my mother only drinks a cup ever so often (my dad is a coffee-aholic) and the ONLY instant she drinks, and that's all she drinks, is the stuff from the Dollar Tree. She says it is the only instant that isn't bitter. As much as I've bought her she could probably drink the stuff at her rate for 2 years and still have a container left over.

Personally I think a lot of the "exotics" that people are hooked on are going to go away so I give them up now. Going to be a lot of people going nuts when the coffee and cigs disappear and I don't want to be among them.

As for tea, I normally only drink herbal when I drink it at all. I kicked that habit as well. Sodas too.

I'm not much of a tea drinker, its not that I don't like southern sweet tea, but I just don't want to consume that much sugar on a daily basis. I have an occasional diet soda, but not part of my daily life. I do like herbal teas. I have a pretty good stash of green tea too. I've never had any of the bottled green tea because, well they are bottled and I consider them too expensive.

I also have a big stash of the instant coffee from the Dollar Tree. I have several jars of an instant called Medaglia d'oro, its an instant expresso, wal mart carried it at a not too bad price but then they revised the instant coffees that they offered and no long carried this one, its too expensive on amazon. I keep my opened jar of it in the freezer.

Have afib and can't have real coffee ... stuck with decaff and trust me there is no good instant decaff. Before I'd drink Folgers crystals instant.

Instant coffee is an abhoration...I have yet to find any that tastes similar to fresh ground coffee.
A good strong cup of Orange pekoe tea, or even Postum, tastes better to me than instant "coffee."

All that coffee bean business is too much hassle for me so I use instant. Interestingly the cheap "International Roast" brand is my favorite. It's mild and tasty and since I drink about 10 cups a day that matters.

The only instant coffees that I've tried are the Aldi and WalMart brands of French vanilla cappuchino - I keep a can in my locker at work in case I need a caffiene boost; and also take it along if I go on a trip. It's handy if you only want a cup. I've used it in hotels and restaurants when we are on trips, the coffee in those places is awful. (And don't get me started on Starbucks...)

I can't even find them in grocery stores, today, but years ago, we liked those General Foods International instant coffees. I bought all the flavors we liked to have on hand for something different from time to time. When our grocery store stopped carrying them, I stopped buying them. I had forgotten all about them, until Renee mentioned French vanilla cappuchino. I may have to check into those again.

The Starbucks Via weren't bad when I tried them while motorcycling several years ago. Better than any traditional instant that I tried over the years.

I keep the Folger's single serve packets for the rare occasion that I just want one cup of something hot and the coffee pot is empty or if I need a little more caffeine and I don't want to make a pot. I rarely use them but they come in handy a few times a year. I keep caf and decaf since the small box is less than a dollar at WM. To me, they taste as good as any other instant I've ever used and they retain their freshness for a long time in those little sealed packets. They are a great item for a BOB.

Coffee is just a drug anyway, making it taste super nice is fine if you want to spend the money on it. It's like milk. You can buy ordinary milk or you can buy posh milk at twice the price. The money I save not buying posh milk and coffee allows me to buy a new quality watch every six months or so. Not that I consciously count the dollars, I just like collecting watches and know that for a given income you can't have the best of everything in this life.

Medaglia D'Oro Instant Espresso Coffee. I see it occasionally at Safeway and Krogers, also can be found on Amazon.1624602905558.png
