PREP "Whatcha buying all that for?"

People do not think before they speak!! You did good. We spent 268.00 the last time we stocked up & I had the same thing. I just said apparently you are not from Fla.. What do you mean??? Blank expressioln. I smiled & said hurricane supplies.

I spend that every week and don't even get a smile or thank you for shopping with us. Like someone posted above, if you want nosey neighbors, live in the South/Midwest, if you want people to not even make eye contact with you or acknowledge your presence, live in the Northeast.

It has its gives and takes. There are times I wish I had the friendly, neighborly smile and such...and there are times I don't.

That's a big difference from someone snooping into your personal life by asking questions to which they're not entitled.

Sure glad I live where I do. We go to a Sam's on the edge of the Navajo Res. We have gone in lots of times and filled up 2 flat bed carts and no one looks at us weird or asks anything. Its not unusual to see people really stocking up especially if they live way up in the mountains and don't come out in the winter.

rafter... yep, country life (combined with big city conveniences like Sam's Club!) has it's advantages!

I got occasional comments (especially when we had 4 teens at home and I was building preps) from clerks at the local (small) supermarket. But I'd "educate" them about stocking a pantry (no survival/tin foil stuff, just basics) and how much money I was saving, buying- say- 12 bottles of catsup. And I had some converts- including a few high school girls who paid more attention than I'd have thought. A couple told me later "I watch what you buy and then get some... I know it's going to be a good deal!"

But you have to know your individual town. In some (usually very small, very Southern and very old), exactly what you bought and how much you paid would be related to everyone in town (especially if it was out of the ordinary in their view) in 24 hours. In ours, the only real reason people seem to pay attention is so they can know if someone is in need of help. I'm sure there are other, catty, undertones, but I live far enough out- and avoid almost all the social life- that I don't notice them.

And because we get WINTER here, people don't see "stocking up" as weird.

Yup, that is why I like Sam's club. Everyone (not just me) is pushing around a flat bed or a big cart of food. No one questions large purchases.
