I always vac sealed mine in a 1/2 gallon jar with the jar lid adapter.
Years ago I bought a bag of 100 of those bigger P-51s. I then taped one to the top of every other big Mountain House-type can I owned (to the metal, but under the plastic lid). That way in an emergency, I'd never be looking for a way to open them.

I'm worried about COOL AIR! It doesn't really cool off here until the end of October! We do have a couple of those battery operated Blaux coolers we could use in 1 room in our basement! Have plenty of batteries too!
I'm going to be sarcastic here Daf but it isn't anything against you or anyone else for that matter. Just wanted to get that out of the way. LOL
I'm wondering if the fact that Florida has been open a significantly long time is affecting whether I see so many preggers compared to other states that did see a significantly long lockdown. Even our lower income tenants don't really have the baby factory thing going on.
Just kinda crazy, tinfoil thinking here. I mean I can see someone saying, "Well we've got an extended stay home order so I'll take advantage of it because when things open back up I'm going to have to make up for lost time."

Shortage I have found, certain shampoo, deodorant, pretty much all house breakers, have gone to three Counties to get one we needed and spares, lawn mowers, tractors (farm) also mid size.

When I was at Sam's Club yesterday people had packed carts, lots of bottled water, and lots of canned goods to the point that the employees were putting the palettes in the middle of the aisle. Not sure what's up, what news story people heard, etc., but people are clearly stocking up.

Taking some cash/metal reserves out, and putting it into tangibles might be a good idea right now if you have no other option in order to stock deep and wide.

I remember how to open a can with a butcher knife. But I do have several manual can openers, have always used that kind and have never had an electric can opener.
As for mask wearing, if I feel like i I'll wear one, but generally I don't. That is except for at the VA, you have to wear one there.

We've taken my own advice. We have never felt it a good idea to have all of our eggs in one basket. We diversify our funds. I have a nice cash emergency fund set aside as one of those baskets. Right now, I'm using some of those funds to stock up even more while things are available, and the prices are reasonable. It might not be an emergency for us right now, but what about in a few months?

Yup, exactly right.
I tend to do things in thirds...like storage of things.
1/3 in one place 1/3 in another and 1/3 in another. One gets wiped out/taken / confiscated you still have 2/3.

Me, too!! I'm from the San Francisco area; dh calls me his "fog baby"...LOL! But where we live now it's been 90's/100's for weeks. I've been fine with our A/C as long as I stay home.
We do have battery fans, reflectex and thermal curtains for windows, hand fans, spray bottles, trees around the house, lots of water. When it's cold you can always add layers or burn something; the fixes aren't so easy for heat!Using extra cash for supplies is good, but having extra cash on hand is also a good idea. I've seen the suggestion of having enough cash to pay for six months expenses, but I personally would not be comfortable with that amount of cash. Definitely want enough for a month though.
I think the reason people are so uneasy about the future and stepping up prepping has a lot to do with a senile president, questionable vice president, insane morally bankrupt speaker of the house, corrupt politicians throughout government, BLM, exploding national debt, increased crime, police leaving their jobs by the hundreds (if not thousands), invasion from the south etc. In other words this country is in out of control chaos, a powder keg waiting for someone to light the match.

We have 5 different baskets. We're not dependent on just one. Like you said, if one gets taken we still have 4 left. Plus, a 2 yr. food storage plan.

I'm going to go out in a bit and see if I can put my shopping skills to work on behalf of several neighborhood families.
I've never seen such a severe shortage of school supplies this early.
Tip: Menard's carries school supplies, something that not everyone knows. Ace Hardware has some, too.
Disclaimer and rant: the local teachers want too much! I have made some edits in the lists, which the parents agree with.
The list for the local school is almost a page long, with things like two boxes of tissues . . . not going to happen!
In my day, it was two blue or black ink pens, two #2 pencils, a pack of wide ruled notebook paper, a 3-ring binder, a ruler, and in the upper grades, a protractor and compass for geometry lessons.

Some things with huge price increases and short supply at Save Mart
Corned Beef Hash, price jump from $2.89 to $3.49 with only a couple of cans on the shelf
Bacon, up to $18.75 per pound
Girl at the butcher counter warned a couple of weeks that pork products would get scarce and price would jump significantly due to pork suppliers purchased by China and they are stopping the import of processed products back to the US.

What pork that will be left, will be going to the Chicoms.
I do not eat much pork these days, mostly just pork skins,
however I do like me some good bacon, and of course chitlins,
and hog jowl on special occasions.

Not only is that not far away, those islands have pigs/hogs that are known to swim from island to island! It's a huge tourist attraction to go see the swimming pigs.
Most of the swine producers are ultra careful about disease. They seldom let anyone into their production facilities and require boot/shoe dips to prevent anything being carried in. Same is true for turkey or chicken facilities. This is their income so they are extremely diligent about caring for their animals. One man that hauls liquid eggs cannot even go onto a property where there are chickens even when he's off work.
True, as far as the big commercial operators go. But there are many thousand smaller producers who raise a few dozen or few hundred pigs along with other small farming ventures, and they aren't nearly as careful. Plus, many try to cut costs by feeding waste human food to them... while I think its technically illegal to feed waste meat to hogs, most aren't concerned about "the rules".
If ASF gets into this country, it will be a disaster.

You know, I'm hearing that LOTS more families are opting for homeschooling this year, with mask mandates coming back into place and now a rumor that Oregon's governor will mandate kids to be vaccinated to be allowed back. I wonder if the shortage is from all the "we're going to homeschool this year but we haven't a clue what we're doing or what we need" crowd?
If so, that could be a good sign, potentially. More kids being homeschooled means the potential for more adults who think for themselves.
