PREP What to expect shortages on during Lockdown 2021

Since 1999
ive said this on other posts but dollar tree has shelf stable milk for $1 a quart. good for 6 months after date. i have verified this
I use this milk now all the time. I only use milk to cook with which isn't often I need it in what I am cooking. After it is open and in the refrigerator I've used it a month later and it is still like it was when I opened it. I always hated buying milk at the store and pouring it out a week later because it was bad.

MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
Now get a wet leg installed so you can fill the twenty pound, or any other relatively smaller tank..... then get the filling attachment that allows the little green tanks to be filled thru the twenty pounders..... the wet leg is a valuable addition.

Imagine the business, while the fuel lasts...or the friends you can help out. Four hundred gallons of propane can fill lots of little containers....
WHAT is a "wet leg???"

I always have several can openers. One manual hanging on the wall, 3 or 4 hand crank openers. I do not have strong hands and I've had one of the hand type break into two pieces as I was using it. Definitely a one is none situation.

I've read several reviews of Aldi wines and all were good. I don't drink alcoholic beverages so cannot give an opinion.

Dollar Tree will allow you to order a case of shelf stable milk to be picked up at their store. I think that is a good idea because I've gone in numerous times only to find the shelf empty.

If you are forced to use cloth diapers and will not have access to a clothes dryer, buying or making one layer flat diapers will work best. I used Birdseye squares which can be folded to fit a new born or a toddler. They are easy to wash and dry quickly. When buying diaper pins with the cute plastic heads, be sure to check there is a metal head under the plastic. Plastic can and will break and baby can end up being stuck. Also, always put the pin in so the the sharp part is pointed out away from the babies tummy. Sticking the pin in a bar of soap will make it slide thru the fabric easier. Experience 7 babies cloth diapered.

Where is your preferred source for these? I haven't had a lot of luck with them, but have several good flashlights that take them

I have great luck with Ebay.

I also have good luck with the EBL18650 and NCR18650.
I just checked for the Samsung 18650 on Ebay and there are none????

I've noticed that the 18650 I purchase with a flashlight are of a very poor quality.
They don't hold much of a charge.

Usually the rechargeable batteries made outside of China tend to be of a better quality,
but the EBL, which is made in China' is good.

I have some button top and flat top. I use protected and unprotected circuits.
I purchased my quality 18650 flashlights directly from China on Ebay.
These flashlights have gone up in price lately, if you can find them???

I use both the 6000K and 3000K flashlights.

These 3.7-4 volt rechargeable batteries can be extremely dangerous which in the reason
I store extra batteries with a partial charge inside of the PVC tubes with caps. (Plumping section at store)

Anyway, I really like these 3.7 volt rechargeable batteries.

As a side note, Walmart has a rechargeable eight inch fan for $8.88. I took one apart to ascertain which
rechargeable battery it was using. It has the 18650 inside the vertical support. That fan is awesome, the
grandkids love playing with them. It's a workhorse. It comes with the USB/micro charging cable.
I attached one to a 5 volt solar panel, works great, but charges very slowly.

That $8.88 Walmart fan with the 5 volt solar panel would be awesome when the power goes down.

Also these 5 volt solar panels are sold on Ebay at $25.00 for ten.
A person has to do something to keep the loose wires and USB stationary.

Thank you! Could you possibly link to ebay source(s) you've found to be reliable? I'm not being lazy... I'm having vision problems, and find reading the fine print to be difficult, and there are so many counterfeits out there.

Also, a link to those solar panels on ebay would be great! Do you mean 5 watt.?

DEPLORABLE ME
I have been a member for 15 years and I don’t say much. TB2K has been a lifeline in so many ways.

The most Important is that with the way the world has continued to change I don’t feel alone. I have a community of people to help me thru the muck and pure utter bullshit.

Thanks Family. I am glad that I have you all.
Hey quar! Don't be so quiet, everyone has stuff to contribute.

Same here. I buy it just to have when I crave cereal for breakfast. Good stuff.

I haven't read back through the whole thread, yet, but there is something I want to say.

Since things are already beginning to get in short supply, when you go out to shop for items that you feel you might need if a lockdown does occurs, if you can't find what you're looking for, substitute with something else. Don't go back home empty handed. There will be other items that you can buy, instead, that you will be able to use, also.

During the last shortage, I did a lot of substituting. If I couldn't find fresh potatoes, I substituted with frozen French fries, boxed potatoes, canned potatoes, etc.

Ordered two AND two repair kits for the ones I already have (probably 15 years old) that have gotten dull!!
Oh, I didn't know they had repair kits!! I see them on Etsy & will get one; we have a couple of old Swingaways. $7.59 w/free shipping is well worth it. Thanks!

I'm not finding any of the quality 18650 batteries on Ebay right now. Don't know why?
There are some of the lower quality 18650 batteries available, like UltraFire. I have some of those
and they're ok. Most of the time on Ebay, I find the ones with lots of "Sold" with some "Available"
to be reliable.

I purchased my Panasonic NCR18650 from: (genele3) on Ebay. They have none right now.
but lots of the cheaper ones. I find genele3 to be reliable.

There are internet battery stores on the internet that still have quality batteries, but
I haven't done any business with them.

This is the link to the 5 volt solar panels I mentioned, and at 2amps, they are perfect for charging
small items. They need some work to complete, but they are really some awesome panels for little jobs.
Ten panels for $25.00!!!
After I hot glued a piece of plexiglass to the bottom, it becomes very durable.

Lot-10 SOLAR PANELS Sunstream 5V/3W each w/USB connect 4 DIY or cell phone charg | eBay

Sorry, I'm not much help on the quality batteries at a reasonable price. I think those days
are gone for now. I purchased my last 18650 batteries about one year ago, and the price was
very reasonable.

If I needed some lesser quality 18650 batteries, I'd go back to genele3.

I haven't check on Amazon, as I done care for them.

I second what SB is saying here. There are many, many good ideas and advice in this thread to the point of being overwhelming! Heavens, I’ve been prepping since pre-y2k and I learn something new everyday from this group!

therefore, allow me to list some takeaways that jumped out to me:

1) begin preparing NOW, however you are able, even if it’s just a little at a time. When you’re doing your regular shopping, buy two of key, sale items and sock one away. It can be that easy.

2) Preparing is not simply acquiring ‘stuff’. It also includes learning new skills (cooking, repair work, maintenance work that you previously hired out), building a support network, getting into better physical & mental health and more.

3) many preparation activities can be done for free (learn something new from an online video) or very low cost (start a container garden with items already laying around the house) so don’t let a lack of finances stop you from prepping.

4) simplify life and return to basics. Do we really need all of those different household cleaners—one for every different room and task? Or could we use some basic Castile soap, baking soda, white vinegar, etc to make our own? Do we really need that 4-step facial care regime with specialty salon products? Or can we simplify it?

Remember that Madison Ave makes its money by convincing you that you need all of those different products. Consider them a luxury now and begin to pare down and simplify your life. Prepping—and surviving difficult situation—become a whole lot easier!

Might not be the cheapest but iirc the owner uses japanese cells.

And, if you want some good priced eneloop batteries, fujitsu brand are japanese cells.

Ebay has them.

Straws.....drinking straws. In the last couple of weeks on runs down off the mountain I sometimes stop at a McDonalds to grab a Diet Coke for the road. Here lately no McD's I've stopped at had any straws for their drinks. Apparently their supplier is bone dry in straws! :shr:

They are being made in China now and are NOTHING like the old ones>>>>I have had two in my entire life and they worked wonderfully, however the last one I got is about useless>>>>from China.

Check your local thrift store for vintage Swing A Way can openers made in the USA. I've squirreled away several. If they aren't too cruddy, they're well worth the time you'll spend cleaning them up.

Panasonic eneloop
I have converted over as much as possible to all Panasonic Eneloop batteries for AA and AAA. I have a Powerex charger for them. So far, they have been very good. I switched mainly for rechargeable, and also due to how quickly modern normal alkaline batteries leak and ruin whatever they are in.

ETA:
I also bought a couple USB chargers that I can plug into my portable/camping solar panel phone chargers.

And Condoms! Look at all the covid babies being delivered in the last few months!

I actually haven't heard of that many. A few yes, but from families that already had kids. But "extra" kids? No. Unless you are talking about the hollyweird crowd where they are having kids now with the expectation of going back to work and needing to have their figure back.

I get my 18650 batteries from Battery Hookup. You will have to cut the cases apart to get to the cells inside but the price is right and so far the batteries have been excellent. I have built many 12v power cells with their surplus cells and just keep on buying more.
