I just tried a drink of a true southern gentleman, the mint julep.... Goodness that is so refreshing, good woodford reserve, and the mint and the fact it's so ice cold makes it sinfully delightful.
Which in these times of woe and want is a slice of heaven.

It's so hot down here - not to mention Mrs. Lincoln, other than the obvious, how was the play, - that those words above are written by a true poet that would shame Lord Byron himself… :p :p

You've set the bar high Sterling, very high. I think I'll have to compare but to be fair, I'll stick to other small batch bourbons. Maker's, Basil Hayden, Knob Creek & I think I have some Blanton too.

I'll have to beg off after that as I'm sure that's my absolute limit for a day.

And all this time I thought that was an Old Fashioned. :D

A Brandy Old Fashioned is huge in Wisconsin.

A Milwaukee Bloody Mary has to have a dill pickle in it along with a small beer shooter on the side.

Myself, I go with bourbon on the rocks or a Stoli Martini.

Summer: Plymouth gin martini
Winter: Blanton's perfect Manhattan

Dagnabbit, it's only 6AM, and now OP has me craving a porterhouse steak with all the trimmings, a couple of good friends at the table, and a couple of drinks slowly consumed over an evening of great conversation.

I've made Juleps from scratch..(made the syrup from home grown mint)...they will knock you on your fanny if you aren't careful.

Really, the only mixed drink I do these days is in summer, otherwise, it's good single malt for me. But summer calls for rum, and I enjoy a Dark and Stormy. Easy, too. Good Dark Bermuda rum - Gosling's Black Seal is my standard - ginger beer, lime, ice.

This is a very interesting read about the history of the mint julep, did you know the straw was invented because of the mint julep?

Cosmopolitan.

I've also had 2 other cocktails, a Salty Dog and some pear juice thing, which I really liked.

Back in my younger days, I liked frozen lime daquiris. We don't go to bars, though, and I've been unable to get one at restaurants. (Surprisingly, restaurants with a cocktail bar have claimed not to have a blender!) I suppose I could make one at home, but I'm too lazy to do more than pour some wine, or splash some gin or vodka into a glass with some juice and seltzer.

(But these days, with the arthritic/problem knees acting up, I'm daily dosing with ibuprofen so (on top of the daily antihistamines) I don't want to further insult the liver with alcohol. I guess I get to watch the coming festivities cold stone sober. Sigh.)

Bourbon on ice. I like the top shelf bourbons, but I’m not that picky either. The bottom shelf stuff is pretty rough though. Or, a Manhattan if the vermouth doesn’t overwhelm. I’ve had a few in bars down south where it was hard to tell there was bourbon in the drink. I drank them anyway..lol.

I quit drinking close to 20 years ago but my favorite was Tanqueray gin & tonic, no lime. A Salty Dog was good on a hot day, too.

Side note, on a really hot day, try grapefruit juice & tonic water on ice - a Salty Dog without the gin.

Saved, to glorify God.
Used to be a rum and Coke. Meyers rum or Captain Morgan. Haven't had one in 20 years or more. Confined my vices to smoking, not a decision, just gradually didn't want hard booze, still like a glass of sweet wine ( Mad Dog-Mogen David) about every month or two.

Prickly Pear margarita! Emeril Lagasse recipe
3 oz tequila, 2oz prickly pear syrup,1 1/2 oz lime juice, 1/2 oz Gran Marnier
we harvest prickly pear tunas, (the red fruit on top of the pads) and boil down with sugar then filter it to make the most beautifully colored syrup - also makes great jelly!

At the height of summer I like gin and tonic.

It is rather refreshing but don't knock off 3 or 4 and then go outside in the blazing sun.

My tastes are seasonal to a degree.

Mowing, doing sheetrock or anything dusty in hot weather...they demand a beer.

1792 & water...kinda universal, as are margaritas.

Cold weather wants a little Bailey's in the coffee.

Wine with the appropriate food. Gotta have a nice red with a bloody chunk of cow.

As a direct answer to the OP, for traditional "cocktails" (mixed drinks)...It's hard to beat a dirty Martini.

SAd to say but I've never had this 1792 Small Batch so, I see more testing on the horizon. Fall/Winter looms so a great time for that

Merci

It's hard to find in some areas.

In 2018, there was a building collapse at the Barton Distillery and they lost a bunch of barrels.
