CORONA What are you concerned about running short of?

I'm sure most of us have seen the stories now about the great toilet paper shortages, bread is getting hard to find, flour & yeast are running low in many stores.

If this goes on for two months? six months? A year?! What do you see yourself running low/out of?

My biggest concern is Mom's meds, and for the rest of the family behind that (we're all on anti-depressants, and I'm on a blood pressure med).

- Spare parts or things I can jury-rig for repairs (weed eaters, washer, car)
- Garlic and Vitamin C (I'll be planting more garlic and old species roses for rose hips -- Rosa Rugosa -- soon)
- Printer ink
- Bike tire inner tubes (Yes, I have patch kits)
- Circular saw blades for cutting pvc and engineered flooring (in short supply - these are from China!)
- Copper wire and metal solder

Lastly: straight, high quality lumber for several projects. Forget the DIY stores for that . . . I may have to postpone these for now.

We have had too many setbacks over the years to be able to have the Genny we really should have...Gonna go into further debt buying another one this week, that will be bigger than our current one....after that gas could be an issue at some point.

I have a letter from the Pentagon saying I'm essential so I'll be driving around a bit tomorrow getting plywood and barbwire to complete the hardening of the house. We have a no travel curfew in MD so my letter is like travel papers...nice to have.

Has No Life - Lives on TB
My primary doctor is not seeing patients right now, but graciously gave me a 90 day refill via my local pharmacy.

If the poop hits the fan for real, I have figured out some work arounds for my bp med.

only 30 day scrips here in the frozen north???

Blood pressure medicine, lunch meat, all things fresh like milk and eggs. But especially what's driving me nuts is no longer ordering on grub hub and doordash. Talk about going cold Turkey with an addiction. I didn't realize how much I used them. Everything from ice cream to frappachinos to surprise my friend with. Roast beef melts, tostadas, KFC, 1/2 lb cheeseburgers, pizzas, spaghetti and meatballs. It is as painful as when I quit smoking 28 yrs ago.
OMG no wonder I'm so fat. I could cry.

Pretty well set up for food, fuel (propane & gasoline), and ammo. Our local doctor called in our scripts for BP (wife) and arthritis. The pain meds he had me meet him at the office, toot the horn and he brought out the script. (Must be hand carried to the pharmacy... Thanks Obammy)

One work around: learn to make several gourmet treats, based on what is still available in your stores. I've been experimenting with half batches of muffins and cupcakes, egg rolls, and homemade noodles.

If all this goes tits up and people can't get their BP meds, don't quit them cold turkey, prepare to slowly reduce them down, half, to quarter tablets not sure which BP meds but some are known to cause strokes when you immediately cease taking them.

I had a buddy in his late 30's have a major stroke when he stopped taking his cold turkey several years ago, again it's second-hand info some of you long term BP med takers probably know more about it than me, I've only been taking mine for 6 months but I've heard this more than one and thought I'd mention it.

Central Indiana stores seem to be getting better. From what I saw yesterday to a report from a friend. Toilet paper is slowly coming back, plenty of bread was available yesterday. Bread can be frozen for up to six months, most dry goods like cereal usually have an expiration of nine months to almost a year. If one is worried about long term food, there is still plenty of dry foods to get here. I heard that chest freezers are basically gone as are bread makers. If things look a little better in the next month, I'm going to start planning for long term storage of various bread making ingredients. I'll likely start that research tomorrow. Time to start practicing is now. Thankfully we have the internet to help.

Those services are doing big business here in Tampa. Every one from McD's to Maggiano's to plenty of others, both upscale and down.

Everything. Look what happened over this with the masses, imagine what's going to happen when things get really serious.

I think this is doom v1.0. Doom 2.0 a year or two from now and it'll be uglier.
