CORONA We've had a brush with covid and this is what I took with good results

This is going to be long but so many of you have asked for specifics on our protocols and are often too sick when it hits to think right. I made a huge pot of vegetable beef stew and pimento cheese for sandwiches and got all my stuff organized in one place when I realized I was probably next and it's a good thing...I did get nervous. If you want to skip everything but the meds, they are underscored like this.

Our grands live next door and spend every weekend with us. Last Friday, before they made it over, our six year old grandaughter started running a high fever and had an extremely sore throat. They took her to the doc and she was tested for strep and covid. She was positive for strep and negative for covid with a rapid test and given Amoxicillin...huge sigh of relief, those are our babies. The next morning our ten year old grandson came down with the same thing. This child has always been down for a week or two with strep. They didn't bother taking him to the doc because granny keeps plenty of amoxicillin. This stuff didn't act like strep although they had a high fever and a sore throat and were lethargic. Within a day and a half, they were both close to normal with just a little lethargy but while they were sick, they felt really bad. I dose these kids with high doses of D, C and a multi vitamin regularly. They have been home schooled since the beginning of covid. Their immune systems have not suffered and this is the first time they've been sick in two years.

Next, my DIL came down with it and she got so sick so quick, my DS got worried because she has bad seizures and she had just had her first in a month the night before and it was worse than usual. Also one of her legs was painful from the knee down. She had some stomach symptoms and was dizzy but that may have been the high fever. They went to the same doctor...by now he's suspecting they all have covid so he orders a more involved test for her, has her take aspirin in case she's trying to get a blood clot and gives her a script for Prednisone 4mg. DDIL said it helped a lot. She ends up being positive. She had a little worse case than the rest of us but still only sick a couple days.

During all this time DS, DH, and myself are feeling off so we start taking our Ivermectin 6mg twice a day...We usually just take it every week or two. DIL and kids haven't been taking it. DH and I have been taking big doses of C and around 8000 IU's of D along with zinc 50 mg, K2 and a good multi vitamin In addition I take Magnesium, Melatonin, Famotidine, Benadryl and Colostrum containing Immuniglobulins and Lactoferrin, and two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. DS takes C and D. So far DH and DS are fine and are feeling better.

Next, I finally came down with it yesterday (Tuesday)...bad. When it hit, it hit like a ton of bricks. I upped my Ivermectin 6mg to three times a day and started on Prednisone 4mg , Doxycycline and Mucinex along with all the meds listed in the preventive section above plus I tried to drink lots of fluids. I'm allergic to aspirin and leary of Quercetin but planned on trying it if I got too bad. I didn't want to sleep with DH and get him sick too so I slept in another room against his wishes...I was still close. Everything on me hurt so I took Tylenol, the drainage was horrible. I couldn't get warm and toward morning it felt like it was trying to go to my lungs. I have a few comorbidities. I may have finally slept 2 hours. When DH heard me stirring and got up, I decided to get up too and drink something hot. Even though I still felt horrible, I noticed I was feeling a little less horrible but I could only manage one cup of coffee...the taste was off. I took more Tylenol at 6:30. DH wanted to stay at home with me but that would have made two guys lose a day of work and we knew they would miss two days with this weather plus my chest seemed to be clearing up and my kids are next door. I tried to drink coffee again but it was a struggle...bad taste. My DIL showed up with Prednisone...said it was a game changer for her and I have to agree plus she broke the news that she was positive. I steadily got better and by about ten tonight, much to my surprise and shock, I started feeling almost normal but my taste is still way off. My sense of smell is still ok.

Edited to add-1...Update Thursday evening, our son has completely lost his sense of smell. Other than feeling a little off the last few days and sounding a little hoarse, his nose burning last night, a few sneezes today and no ability to smell and a slight loss of taste, he's good and feels fine. It's my opinion that he has it and should have some immunity going forward. That leaves DH, the workaholic, never say die guy who has a fantastic immune system, even at 65. He hasn't left the house or his recliner since he got up this morning (first time I've ever seen this in almost 50 years except for maybe that one time in his twenties that he had the flu but I was so sick then I can't remember). He even asked DS to do his chores. I think we can safely say it's been through the whole crew with DH having an almost asymptomatic case and praying it stays that way. DH and I will carry on with our protocol a little longer and then go back to preventive if things stay like they are.

Edited to add-2...the reason I took Doxycycline instead of the Z-pack that is usually used is because I'm allergic to all mycin antibiotics. I've also learned that Doxy has some antiviral properties. The reason I didn't start right out with Quercetin is because I'm deathly allergic to aspirin. My oldest DS has inherited a ton of my medical oddities. He took the quercitin preventively for a week or so when all this first started and it started giving him the same strange reactions aspirin does so he stopped it. He's not allergic to aspirin but has adverse reactions. I have anaphylactic reactions.

One more thing, DDIL and I have both had cramps in our legs and feet with this that magnesium and potassium wouldn't touch. I drank a small can of Schweppes tonic water with quinine as a last resort last night and it stopped them. I got that at Walmart when it was suggested as a replacement for hydroxychloraquin last year. I had to mix it with ginger ale but I got it down. It helped her a little but not much so she used Liquid I.V.. It's close to the Gatorade at WM and is in powdered form. It fixed her right up.

I've heard your body's weaknesses show up along with covid and I can vouch for that. I had the worst TMJ attack I've ever had the day before I came down with it...hadn't had one in years and had none of the warning symptoms leading up to it. My spastic esophagus reared it's ugly head in a big way plus DIL had a big seizure.

I can't believe I got better this fast. Last night I was laying there wondering what I was facing. Was it my protocol? I can't be positive but I do believe it played a large part and the fact that I had my levels up on some of those. Would we have fared so well if it had been Delta, probably not. I'm sure it was Omicron...and thankful.

I hope you stay better! I got down and out sick on day 1. Was up like normal on day 2. And on day 3 spent the whole day in bed. Back and forth for 2 weeks with something new every other day.

I really like your protocol though. I do the exact thing now everytime I know I am exposed to illness.

I’m so glad you are doing better. I spent two weeks of back and forth, feeling okay then bad again. Ended up with a sinus infection, the antibiotics helped tremendously, and very tight chested, neighbor had prednisone (her hubby a dr.), used it for my lungs and it is helping with that inflammation. My albuterol inhaler wasn’t cutting it. Ever since I had really bad bronchitis back in early 2020(probably was Covid), I end up with inflamed airways every time I get a sniffle..

I'm not sure about the dose amount on the prednisone or the length of time. She brought me five of the pills. He had her taking it only once a day though. I will find out today and let y'all know. It must have been on the strong side because after only getting a couple hours of sleep the night before, I wasn't able to go to sleep until almost five this morning and I believe I could have stayed up even longer. She said it made her really hyper and jittery.

Great info but seeing very few using povidone iodine in the nose and mouthwash containing cetylpyridinium. A few Doctors are saying it kills the virus before it gets worse.
DH has used the mouthwash with cetylpyridinium for several months since he is the only person in our family who is out and about and he hasn't really come down with it...just that few days of feeling off but we don't put the povidone iodine in it. I thought that was an either or situation where you use either povidone in the homemade mouthwash or cetylpyridinium. I use the Xlear spray every time I go out and chew a lot of the gum with xylitol on a daily basis. I chew the gum anyway because it helps my acid reflux and I have been chewing it for years. It is is great for your teeth per my dental hygenist and I like the fact that there is no sugar in it plus it blows great bubbles which impresses my grandchildren a lot. It's highly poison to dogs so we keep it out of reach of everyone.

The prednisone is 4 mg. He gave her 10 but she's having to cut her's in half. It's too strong for her. The Ivermectin is 6 mg.

I feel even better today and am starting to cough stuff up. It's thicker than before so I'm hoping my doxycycline will take care of any bacterial bug I may have. If not, I'm switching to amoxicillin. It's always worked great for me with respiratory issues. I rarely take antibiotics and when I do, I prefer the mildest I can get by with and still do an adequate job. Antibiotics are wonderful and have saved countless lives but they can sometimes do more damage than good.

Very good information, detailed. Thank you. I fervently hope you and your family have weathered this storm.
Thank you FMJ. That's what I wanted to do for everyone...give a very detailed first hand account of what may work for folks going through the same thing. I wrote it in the wee hours of morning when that prednisone was keeping me awake so I'v gone back and fine tuned it a little and fixed some of those typos.

Thank you for taking the time to really "spell out" your "COVID" experiences and treatments/therapies.

Helpful for all.

Oh, the gum is a good idea! I use the Xlear & mouthwash, & nebulized hydrogen peroxide when I was sick. I have the iodine but didn't add it because it's not supposed to be good with thyroid issues.

I didn't think about the thyroid issues with iodine...that's a great point. I keep that kind of iodine in my preps for wound care and started to make the mouthwash but was just too darn busy to do it all.

I've already added this to the main post but some of you probably won't see it. DDIL and I have both had cramps in our legs and feet with this that magnesium and potassium wouldn't touch. It didn't immediately stop DDIL's but did make it better. She added Liquid IV and it did the trick. It's close to the Gatorade at Walmart. I tried to drink gatorade to stay hydrated when this first started and it gave me massive heartburn. I think it may have been the orange flavor.

thank you for your post Wildwood . . . an important question - how did you dose the prednisone and for how long?
You are welcome. The doc gave her ten tablets of 4mg once a day. She had to cut it in half after the first one because it made her too jittery and hyper and I probably will too since I couldn't wind down last night. If I weren't so much better, I'd stick with the 4mg daily and put up with the extra energy.

Thanks for the info on the prednisone. I'd likely take a pass if it makes you hyper and jittery. I've been struggling with a hyper thyroid since last August. I don't need anything that might trigger it again.

Wanted to update...everything is tasting better. It's back to at least 95%. My sense of taste never went away, it just morphed into a slightly bitter and sometimes slightly metallic taste, a lot like you have after any other virus or infection. That slightly metallic taste along with feeling tired started a day before I got sick.

I believe I will since I'm on the downhill side of this hopefully. I've got to have some sleep. Thanks.

I'm still modifying my original post while I can...just remembered I take two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar most days for my blood pressure. You never know what effect anything might have in the big picture.

The blue Gatorade Zero (Glacier Freeze) has a very mild flavor and might be an alternative. I like it b/c the orange is too strong for me as well.

What brand of colostrum and lactoferrin did you use and what dosage?

Also, the reaction your son had may have been due to taking IVM and quercetin together. They interact with each other and should be staggered during the day (take one in morning and the other at night).

Thanks for this very helpful post.

You are so welcome. That is a different son. He's not on the Ivermectin bandwagon yet. He's like me and sensitive to meds so is very cautious. Thanks for the info on combining them.

This is the one I got...I like this brand of supplements and they are often less expensive.

This is my new update to the original thread. I know most of you won't see it since you've already read the thread. This will hopefully be my last update to the original post. My 24 hours will be up around 4 am. After that, any more news will be down here. Thanks y'all for all the feeback and help.

Update Thursday evening, our son has completely lost his sense of smell. I'm not bragging, and I'm going to knock on wood, but I think this ^^^ is why I haven't caught anything. I don't mask (since June, WV cancelled that mandate), have been to a wedding and a concert, christmas and thanksgiving with the family... I've been using the saline/iodine nasal spray (1.75 oz saline with 1/2 tsp providone iodine added to it)....several times a day and definitely before going in to store and when I get home. And have gargled with salt water and iodine when my throat got scratchy. I did start to catch something months ago, felt it was going in to my lungs and used the peroxide/salt water nebulizer and a few doses of IVM. Stay well friends. Thanks for sharing @Wildwood !

When my legs started bothering me; I thought it was lack of use; I'd been on the sofa for almost 8-10 days. I purchased a handheld massager and found that helped the sore muscles a lot!

Thank you for the info on the saline/iodine treatment. I need to look back into the peroxside/salt water nebulizer too.

I think I'd like that. I'm on my feet most of the day every day. Thanks for the suggestion. Is there any certain kind I should look for?

Y'all were exactly right...I've gone back a few steps. I think I overdid it yesterday. Lesson learned. I will be taking it easy for a while.
