Got 3rd place on the quilt hanging I put into our fair this year-Didnt know till today when I went to pick it up. They told me there was a field of 11 in the art quilt catagory, so to even place was good enough for me. :D

Thank you all!
All machine except for the last sew down of the binding and the hanging pocket on the back. I had an awful time with that weird gold fabric in the edging-it buckled something fierce after I got it all together. I had to do invisiable running stitches by hand to take up the slack in it and THEN it laid flat. I do as little hand sewing as possible anymore, I have arthritis in the fingers, they mostly look like fat cigars from the swelling and they dont bend anymore like they used to. I did whats called soft edge applique for the vase and the flowers. cut around a big chunk of the flowery stuff I liked and other pieces to fill it in where I wanted and pinned them all down and you sew with a fairly tight straight stitch all around the raw edges. I hate satin stitching, it usually ends up a big bunched up mess. I washed and dried it a couple times so I could snip all the little threads popping up from the raw edges and WOW! it came out nice. This one is my favorite of all the things I've ever done. I'm not at all sure how long it took...you lose yourself in the work/play when it gets on a roll like this one did...you look up and its 3 hours later and you dont realize how long youve been there.

Beautiful work. I admire quilting. Wish I could take lessons. Maybe soon. It looks more like needle point from the picture. Congratulations to you.
