Hello, All!

I'm sorry to have been mostly missing the past few weeks; life has been a little stressful of late. This past week, I lost my oldest cousin on my Mama's side of the family to an unexpected medical issue; the services were held yesterday and since another cousin and I work in the same unit, I worked a split shift by finding coverage for part of my shift then coming back in to work at 6pm so that cousin could get some sleep before coming back in to work her scheduled night shift. Drove through a few lightly flooded areas on my way home, but made it in shortly before 1 am.

The ongoing saga of the new computer program at work and it's myriad glitches paired with short staffing has taken a bit of a toll - I'm reeeeallllly wanting to just flop on the couch and either put a pillow over my head or read PAW fiction until my eyes cross on my days off work, instead of doing useful things. Kathy in FL just HAD to choose this past week to start posting updates to her stories..... and I soooo thank her for doing so; my brain needed a break! I've been forcing myself to get up and move after just a few chapters but the couch keeps singing it's Siren song...

Besides going to and from work - leave at 0545 and home at 2045, if I'm lucky! - I managed to pry myself off the couch long enough to go to two track meets, and one T-ball practice, plus aqua aerobics with the neighbor ladies twice last week; and one of them hauled me out of my house and dragged (drug?) me on an all day excursion to town on Friday. Her van was fully loaded by the time we got back but only the items in the compartment made by the smaller back seat being raised and the area above it belonged to me. I did manage to pick up a couple of cases each of pineapple and mandarin oranges for the pantry as planned, but had to settle for ring and chunk pineapple as Aldi didn't have any crushed. I wanted those fruits on hand since I can't grow them here. I also stocked up on bottled water - I'll rotate it out in the cooler we take to the T-ball games. With all the rain we've had this spring, our 1000 gallon water tank in the shed it over 3/4 full, so I don't worry about keeping bottled water on hand as much as I do in the winter months when we have to empty the tank.

The lightly flooded roads I drove through last night on my way home from work were flooded 12" deep when Hubby headed to town early this morning in response to a call from his Mama than her basement was flooded; he did report that water had gone down some by the time he made his way home a bit ago, and the rain is fairly light at the moment. I'm sure glad that I don't have to go to work for a couple of days - although the forecast isn't very favorable for those days either!

Plans for today include carrying in the non-perishables I picked up the other day - friend backed her van up until it nearly met mine, and we stood under the shelter of the vans lifted back doors and transferred the non-perishables to mine rather than both of us getting half drowned toting them in - I was soaked to the skin just in the time it took me to get the perishables in the house, so the non-perishables have remained in the van since then  Other than that, there's not much on the list beyond possibly catching a nap as I've been running on about 4 hours sleep a night for the past couple of weeks..

Tomorrow is aqua aerobics with the neighbor ladies while Hubby takes the van in for an oil change; then working in our two storerooms to try to get all the pantry stuff into one so that Hubby can move all his reloading stuff, etc.. into the other one; thus freeing up the family room for family stuff - I'm thinking we need a ping-pong table again

Tuesday is a work day, Wednesday I might try to get the handyman out to do some inside work as it is supposed to pour rain again; if it doesn't rain, there is a T-ball game on the schedule that evening. Thursday and Friday are work days; then a three day weekend off - woo hoo!!

Take care, All - wishing you a happy and productive week!

Renee, I'm very sorry to hear that you lost a cousin, bless your heart ~ Mine are all very far away from here, but I still love them!

It looks like you are one busy lady! Sounds like a very productive week but glad you are getting a little fun time and a bit of down time to recharge at least a little. Up here the snow is all gone out front (the south side) and enough is off my 20 raised beds out back that I'm going to start working them to get some cole bedding plants in a few of them this week, even though there's still quite a bit of the white stuff closer in to the house. I do put row covers on since we're still getting cold weather for a few more weeks but I *think* the snow is done! Also, I need to organize my greenhouse and get serious about my tomato and pepper plants in there.

Inside it's "rotate the water" week tomorrow. In the spring I usually empty the 5 gallon bricks into my rain barrels to clean them out and then onto the garden. I'm just glad I kept in shape over the winter, it's a heavy work week for sure :)

Made my trips to top off groceries yesterday and this morning, so the rest of today is just some cleaning and organizing -- and a little screen time off and on!

Bless you folks!

After a week of rainy, stormy, cool/cold depressing weather, today the sun is out. We're supposed to have a full week without rain so my hope is that the garden will be dry enough to plan by the weekend. A friend tilled it for me last week before the deluge started so I think its pretty much ready once it dries out. Today I weeded the asparagus, rhubarb and raspberries -- they are all on edges of garden so I could work from the grass and not get muddy. I have a couple areas that I will have to dig over myself as they were missed by the tiller. Within the next couple of days I will cut seed potatoes so they will have time to dry before planting.

Thank you, ladies; this is one of the cousins who spent many, many summer weekends at the farm when we were kids - we hadn't stayed as close as that as adults, but we did see each other several times a year, so it was a bit of a blow.

I stopped on the way home from work tonight to pick up a half dozen cans of Hunts spaghetti sauce at 79 cents/can - I like to use it for pizza sauce or dipping sauce for breadsticks more than I do spaghetti! I also picked up 3# of 15/85 ground beef at $3/lb, and had a home mailer coupon that allowed me to snag a box of store brand CoCo Puffs and a 6 count package of Heath Klondike bars FREE!! I have more coupons for the spaghetti sauce so will pick up another half dozen cans tomorrow when I go to town to pick up the handyman tomorrow. I plan to use 2# of the ground beef to make meatloaf mix; the rest will be browned with peppers and onions - half will be used to make goulash - seasoned ground beef, canned tomatoes with garlic/basil/onion, tomato paste and macaroni; I'll leave the other half for Hubby to fix something with :)

Take care; stay safe!

I have spent some money in the last few days buying cat food. I usually keep 9-12 months of wet food on hand, but the dry food is harder to store and we were down a bit. Our brand has been on sale this week and with coupons and sales and gift cards and creative buying, I have added five months plus worth of dry food. It was still about $60. I also topped off the water and tp and the gas tank, so I think we are pretty well set for whatever may come. At least I feel better about it.
