If the pine needles are the long ones, like 4 inches or so, you can make baskets/platters/etc. out of them. My sister-in-law's dad does that and has made some beautiful pieces. I've seen some youtube video showing the process. I'm sure a quick search would turn something up. If they're short...no idea. We would burn them in an outdoor firepit when I was kid. Not because they burned good or anything, but because we were little firebugs and burned anything we could. LOL

Could they be used as bedding for the outdoor doghouse? They are long needle pines. That would make use of some of them.

Picking up a Walmart order today. I bought turkey breast, thighs and legs. It will just be us so I'm going to do a small dinner. I'm going in a minute to get hamburger and pork butt.
I made a trade of our pears for ground venison.
Getting the fall and winter clothes out and packing up summer.
We will be gone most of November and I'm ready to get away.
Going shoe shopping.

Cary is cleaning out our wood stove this morning to get it ready to go. He's filled up the large wicker basket in the laundry room with stove wood beside the stove, so it's ready to go, too. I'm cold, but we still haven't used either wood stove or heater. He's already cleaned the flues and the wood heater. It's still getting down into the 40's at night, and that's cold to us Southerners. I'm getting ready to change out our clothes from summer to winter, too. Not the heavy winter stuff, just our long sleeve tops and shirts. It will probably be a while, before we need the heavy winter stuff.

I got up this morning and did what my Rheumatologist said. I put on the knee brace and am thinking about getting out my back brace to wear, also. I need to buy a pair of wrist braces in case my carpel tunnel acts up in the future. I've already had surgery on both wrists, but I still get light bouts of it from time to time. I gave my set to my sister back when she needed them.

I'll probably be able to get another basket of tomatoes this afternoon. That will be the last of them. I'll pull up the pepper plants and remove the cages, too. Mustard is coming out, and the peas will be all that's left.

Had what I have to believe was a Holy Spirit prompting on Tuesday. Went to the pharmacy and while I was waiting for my prescription, I saw lace up canvas ankle braces. Decided to get one, because it would last longer than elastic in storage.

Well, yesterday husband sprained his ankle. Since he’d broken his leg just a little up from the sprain a couple of years ago, I made him go to urgent care. Got the brace on him and he’s doing pretty good.

We had a very poor tomato crop this year. A friend heard of a place still selling tomatoes for $5/box u pick. So we drove up to the mountain to pick. The surrounding views were unbelievable and the weather was great! And I don't think that I could grow tomatoes that cheaply. In just a couple of hours we had picked 17 bushels of blemish free tomatoes. They were trellised well and there was no bending to pick! And yes I ate one before I picked and yes it was delish! God always provides! So today I will process squash pickles and start on spaghetti sauce. Love hearing how you are all getting ready for the cold months. Those months should be interesting. On a slightly different note, while picking yesterday struck up a conversation with the grower. She said their salesman told them yesterday that Florida had lost 60% of their tomato crop that was just about ready to pick and to look for higher prices. Her prices were doubling starting Monday.

Today is opening day of squirrel season, here. The hunting party got off with a good early morning start with hot sausage and biscuits and coffee. Cary and DS doesn't eat the squirrels, but DS has a friend that loves them. All they kill goes to him. I don't look for them to be back home, before lunch. They like to hang with the other hunters at the hunting lodge, afterwards.

So, I've got to water everything left to water which are the peas, mustard, roses, Hosta, and azaleas. I'm waiting for it to warm up outside a bit, first. 46 last night. Brrr...... Once that's done, I'll do laundry to hang on the line. 81 for our high, today, with sunny skies. No rain in our forecast for another 7 days. Our area is now officially in a drought.

Taking someone's advice, I forget who it was, I used 2 boxes of Spanish style Rice-a-Roni last night with 1lb of ground beef. It was good, and Cary really like it. It made so much that we're having it for leftovers, tonight. I don't know what I'll fix to go with it right now. We had lima beans, creamed corn, and cornbread with it last night. From now on, 1 box will be plenty. I will be adding lots more Rice-Roni to my pantry. Freeze, first, then vacuum seal in pint jars, along with the cut out instructions. I didn't want to buy up a lot, until I got around to eating it first to see how we like it. It's a winner, so.......

DH doesn't hunt squirrel because he doesn't like it. And sad to say he has no hunting buddies either. The hunters around here have been here most of their lives and he's still a stranger in a way. And he doesn't do dog hunting either, thank goodness, its cruel. But you can't say that kind of thing very loud or people get upset. I imagine the wild game will get over hunted and there will be no more at some point.

The church is having a fund raiser today, fried fish plates, I'm getting two for us. Then I have to figure out something for supper, cause the fish plates are for lunch.

I keep wanting to make a trip to walmart to pick up a few things. I need to replace a case of water that I used, try to keep a certain amount.

Its cold here in the house, DH wants to turn the furnace on, I'm resisting. But it will warm up some outside, the sun is shinning and its a beautiful day. DH got my garlic planted the other day. The thing is I really don't use much garlic.

I didn't realize it but I I've got an appointment with my primary care on Wednesday, my regular three month visit. I still need to get the xrays on my knees done. I don't know whether its the shot I got last month or not, but my knee has calmed way down. I still have issues when I first stand up. I definitely can't do things I could do a few months ago. But I'm getting there. I'm blessed.

The land (right at 3k acres) where Cary and DS hunt is private property that has been in Cary's dad's side of the family for generations. Cary's great-great grandfather founded it. It's more like a game preserve that is under the management of our own game warden and state biologist. It's very controlled, patrolled, and managed. No one is allowed on the property unless they are paid members. Cards are checked at the gates. We also have our own caretaker who lives with his wife full time at the lodge. Very few of the older members hunt anymore, but they still like riding their horses, fishing, and riding their ATV's on the property with their children and grandchildren. LOL, we still have an alligator who lives in one of the lakes on the property that members sometime feed. We've done that, ourselves. He loves Spam! He sees you coming, and he swims right up to the bank and catches whatever people bring him.

Judy, Hope your A1c is not effected by the shot.
I went to Shreveport yesterday cheapest gas was Sams in Shreveport.
Had scans of my knees done and hope for the braces within 10 days. They are made on 3D printer, amazing stuff.

Its definitely cool here. It's weird to think this time last year we were at the beach and the weather was perfect. This year is cold compared, thinking I need to to go ahead and drag my winter clothes out and get them washed. I'm going to dd's in Boston in two weeks and I know it'll be cooler up there.
Added more pintos and oatmeal to the stock this week and a few ready to go meals for me that I found online. They'll be quick and easy if I need them.
I need to see if I can get a few more food grade buckets for storage. All of mine are full.

Probably Toradol if it was just in a muscle. If it was triamcinolone, that is a steroid and usually goes into the joint.

It has been a busy week. I always enjoy this thread and literally find myself smiling as I read all of your posts and progress.

Hubby and I are at our “get away home” this weekend.
(One day I hope to be here full time when I retire.) We were concerned with Ian coming through, but thankfully we were spared. Apparently a second round is supposed to come through tomorrow.
We are on the water, and we used the higher than usual waters to our advantage and “cleaned out” the oyster floats this morning (because we could reach them from the pier). That has to be my most unusual ”prep item” ….. oysters. Great protein source!

Our neighbor here (whom we adore) is recently widowed so I just had a visit with her for a bit. I brought her dinner, and hubby and I had picked her up some fresh cantaloupe, pineapple, apples, sweet potatoes, and tomatoes from our garden. (I just reread that sentence - only the tomatoes were from the garden, the rest were from the store).
I try to bring her a little something each time I come (either a food treat or puzzle book, etc) but truly just appreciate our visits together. She is 79, and I enjoy sitting and visiting with her.

I got paid yesterday so need to sit down and do my bills / budget for October. I reworked a budget for myself for the next year and am tightening down even further. I think I can do it. Need to take another look at it with “fresh eyes” as I worked on it the other day.

I plan on doing another meal plan for October and using up some of what we already have on hand in our pantry and freezer. our freezers are FULL, and I need to rotate some items.

Slow and steady -

Thanks, its Toradol. My PCP said they will give Toradol in ER for pain. I seriously doubt a steroid would be given in ER. I wrote the name down so I won't keep forgetting it.

When I was making my move to the woods I could not remember the word bungie cord. So finally I wrote it down in my notes on my phone and I have not forgotten it since.

We give steroids in the ER all the time - sometimes even into joints!

Managed to get tomatoes canned, the freeze dryer filled with broccoli, and piccililli started for Mom. The weekends just pass too quickly. SIL also picked up a produce pak for me: for $15, I got 3 bananas, 3 apples, 3 peaches, a mango, 2 lemons, 2 limes, 1# baby carrots, a sleeve of celery, 2 ears of corn, a cucumber, a bell pepper, 2 russet potatoes, and 2 onions.

Put some corn and minerals out. On the way to the feed plot. Got out a little late and a deer was heard snorting at me so it busted me.

Then a hour later as I'm sitting in my tree, a deer is in the line right where it should be. Just for a few seconds.

Not deer hunting today but a yote sure would of regretted seeing me. But nice day.
