DH and I did Aldi and Sam’s shopping yesterday and I’m so tired today. We managed to get everything that needed to be in the freezer and refrigerator put away and I got some things put in the pantry but the kitchen counters are still fairly cluttered. I’ve got to get the kitchen back under control and get the apples we dried last week out of the storage bags and into jars. And although the dehydrators are clean, one of them is still on the table!

We bought 2 big packs of BS chicken breast and 1 pack of tenderloins at Sam’s that need to be divided up, vac packed and froze. I want to get stocked up more on chicken and a local store has whole fryers on sale at a good price this week but we absolutely don’t have room in the freezers, although I just had the thought I could send some to one of my daughters freezers, hmmm. We just had a steer butchered, so freezer space is at a premium. I really need to get things organized around here and get some beef canned up. I only got one container of coffee yesterday the price was $14.46 for 40 oz Folgers, ugh, so glad I’ve got extras put back. 10 lbs of onions, 10 lbs of carrots, Brussel sprouts, bell peppers (we generally still have peppers in the garden at this time still but the heat and drought made that impossible), tomato’s, 5 lb of sweet potatoes (have ordered more from grandson through FFA), cashews, some dairy products, frozen vegetables (that I had to work really hard to find freezer space for but the choices for fresh aren’t always that great and cost more). A bag of oranges and a few snack things for the grands.

At Aldi I added 4 large cans of crushed tomato’s, some French style green beans, evaporated milk, small cans of tomato sauce, fire roasted tomatoes, maraschino cherries, rolls of Maria cookies, cottage cheese, cream cheese, pimento cheese, Swiss cheese and heavy cream. Prices are definitely on the rise.

SB~I’m glad to hear you got good results and got news early. I hope you have a great meal and enjoy time with your family tomorrow! Prayers up for safe travels.

Pray for every one to get rest! About finished up shelling the sunflowers and picking peas for the chickens! Plan is to buy as little feed as possible. Enjoying the cool mornings and warm afternoons. Family wedding this weekend so our work tomorrow will be curtailed but hopefully the food makes it worth it. (Yes I am ALL about the food!)

Do you feed the peas whole or do you crack or grind them?

DH just got his first deer of the season. He didn't get any last year. I went out to look at her, felt a little sad, but patted her head and thank her for her sacrifice and thanked the lord for providing. This is not something I think I could do myself, particularly coming from a city girl that didn't want to eat bamby. But I gave in several years ago when a friend offered me some venison, she was cleaning out her freezer to make room for that year's bounty.

DH learned to do his own processing a couple of years or so ago, which saves a bunch of money in processing costs.

Took a load of brush to the city's free dump day plus used electronics and sharps. Got rid of quite a bit of stuff.
Cleaned out another kitchen cabinet and started putting dry goods into jars. Little by little getting the house decluttered.
Ordered dehydrated mushrooms from amazon. My last batch got nasty even though they were good and dry when I put them in the jar.

We just got back home from our trip to Rattlesnake Saloon! We had a great time, and the cave wasn't so bad. We didn't get to eat on the outside, but we weren't too far inside the cave. They did have on display a large rattlesnake in a glass cage. I glanced at it as I was walking by to the restroom but didn't go up to the glass to get a closer look, LOL! Nope......

I almost froze going across the wooden foot bridge. The boards would give a bit when you stepped on them, and there were cracks between each board that you could see through. It was, according to Cary, about 150 ft. long. It went across a wide river called Bear Creek. I finally made it to the other side, but had to collect my nerves, before I could make it back across. On the way back across, the whole thing started swaying, and I almost lost it, but made it back across ok. I won't be doing that again.

All in all, we all had a good time, but I have no desire to go back. Visit once and done kinda thing. It's good to be back in my safety zone.

DH finally got the upright freezer cleaned out, it need to be wiped down really well. He did this today because he wanted to clean out the freezer in his processing shed to hold the venison and the 4 wild pigs he's got pinned up. He said two of them literally jumped the wood fence and got away, so he had 6 and now he has four.

He made an unholy mess tenderizing the venison, but I cleaned it up and made no complaints. Now that I have a good handle on the kitchen (praise the Lord) it wasn't a big deal to get it cleaned up. If the kitchen had been a mess it would have taken me days to get it all cleaned up. I'm soaking the tenderizer and have two dish pans left to wash, wash the skillet he used and wipe down the stove.

I was reading somewhere that our electric bills are going to go up and additional 10% from where they are now. I was just thinking about how I am to have hot water on demand and electricity to heat that water. It would be a night mare to have cleaned up the venison mess without that. I think the process would definitely have to have been done outside.

Mostly its been a nice lazy day, DH did all the real work.

I did a small grocery run yesterday and continue to notice price increases.
Every time I go to the store, I replace what we have used and pick up a few more things for the pantry. Yesterday‘s “extra” for the pantry included five boxes of stock (2 beef, 2 chicken, 1 vegetable) and 5 cans of beans (different kinds).
I also utilize the sales. They had pork butt for 99 cents a pound so bought one. I should probably get another now that I think about it.

Slow and steady …..
