Ok, I'm back. I had to get my pie mixed up and in the oven. I just have nit-picky stuff to do, today. Cary and I, both, use the dining table for our computer and work desks. That all has to be cleared off, and a clean tablecloth put back on. I usually don't use a tablecloth. Solid glass front door needs to be washed and cleaned. It seems that we can't go in or out without leaving a smudge of some kind. Things like that.

DS and DDIL will make it to the Grand Canyon, today. I hope at least parts of it are open enough for them to enjoy it. The have a plan B if it isn't. Cary and I have been talking about taking a long road trip to Savannah, GA, or to the Shenandoah Valley. We're more interested in lush scenery and mountains than we are rock and sand.

Dale (Forty9er) will be in Tupelo later this afternoon to check into his hotel. We don't have the exact time, but I told Cary to tell him that, if it's early enough, for him to come on out. I have to have everything done by this afternoon just in case he does.

I hope it's a better week for you, Kyrsyan. I think things will calm down after the full moon on Monday.

I'm mentally scattered today. I've got several projects going at once, including baking bread and washing clothes. Rain is coming in later, so I just gave the mums on the front porch a quick drink. Everything else will wait. I need to slow my brain down and focus on one thing at a time.

I have resolved that I'm going to plant at least one row of flowers for cutting next summer: they are morale boosters, and I found myself buying more flowers than usual for people getting out of hospitals. Those costs add up fast. I'm glad I bought several dozen of the cheap glass flower vases (2/dollar) last time I stocked that portion of my pantry. To that end, I've been buying more sale seeds. There were asters and cornflowers at Menard's for $0.30. Yes, only about 80% will germinate, but that's still a great price.

I hope everyone has a peaceful Sunday!

I always have cosmos, marigolds, and zinnas growing in my yard every year. I love flowers of all kinds. The small type of marigolds outlines my raised garden beds, and the cosmos and zinnas are scattered around in them. It makes for a very colorful backyard, along with drawing in butterflies and bees.

I have been so busy this week that I have failed to water everything outside. The drought is really doing a number on my hostas, roses, and azaleas. Also, the ivy that is a groundcover over a small space just off the front porch. Everything is beginning to look dead.

I haven't started back making homemade bread, yet. I have been making cornbread for Cary, lately, though. I'm waiting for our temps to turn much cooler. It won't be much longer. With the drought and breezy days, the leaves are definitely falling from these old oak trees. Lots of good mulch is accumulating!

Cornbread is yummy, too! I'll bet yours is excellent.

I need some sandwich bread for the week. I'm also cooking a small, whole chicken. I'm going to turn most of it into chicken salad sandwiches so that I avoid eating out.

Cary loves my cornbread, but it's nothing fancy. I make it the way Mom always made hers. Just white cornmeal (you can hardly find yellow cornmeal here in the South. It's just not a "thing" down here), about 1/4 tsp. of baking powder, eggs, and milk, into a well greased cast iron skillet. No sugar! I just use an 8 inch skillet for mine. Even that is too much for just Cary. I feed the birds with what's left.

There have been small showers off and on today. One that was "worthwhile" and it's supposed to rain most of the night and again tomorrow midday. We need the moisture as long as it's not enough to stop harvest for a week. So far the amount is minute.

I did nothing today beyond going to church and making a quick supper. I do need to do dishes before I go to bed. Not a lot but enough I don't want to face them first thing in the morning. I have a haircut scheduled for noon tomorrow so will attempt to do some cleaning before and after.

Tomorrow is supposed to be much cooler so I may do some baking. I've been wanting an apple crisp (my grandmother's recipe called apple crunch). I have frozen apples from the food pantry that I want to use from the freezer so it will be a quick fix. Also, some blueberry muffins sound good. A friend made blueberry muffins and added some dried cranberries. They were very good so I may try that. I have dried cranberries and frozen blueberries from the mobile food box several months ago that I vacuum sealed so very inexpensive project.

We're up early this morning, and it's raining a bit. I don't expect much, but a little is better than none at this point. We might get enough to moisten the leaves and grass.

I was too excited last night to get much sleep. I just know we're going to have a lot of fun, today, so we won't be here, once Dale gets here. He and Cary talked last evening, and so far, he loves Mississippi. It's a lot different from Wyoming. It's his first time this far South. I sure hope he doesn't get irritated with my "Southern drawl", LOL. I'll try to make up for it with my Southern hospitality and charm. ;)

My inability to sleep has returned full force. 2 running nights of no sleep left me pushing hard to get through yesterday. Gotta get a handle on it. Will be working 2 jobs all winter and sleep will be a serious necessity. Benadryl doesn't faze me. Nor does melatonin. Can't do gummies due to drug checks. (Handling sensitive info on both jobs.) Hoping I can find a form and strength of magnesium that will work.

I did get October thru February mapped out as far as my time. 2nd job doesn't start until Dec 1st and will be 2 months of paid part time training. I cannot even begin to imagine how training is going to take 2 Mos. It is one of 2 things: 1) they hired people who have to be told every step, or, 2) they want the luxury of an extra month of half pay before everyone starts drawing full pay. I attended an online orientation only to find it was just going over each and every pre-step we do on our own. Mine was done in about 30 minutes the day I was hired. But I had to watch them repeatedly going over each step ad nauseum. Will be so glad when properties are sold and I don't have to do this. I am keeping working hours to one 10 hour shift Mon -Fri. Can't bring myself to do 12s anymore. Plan is to only do so until April or so. We shall see.

Getting things done this week before work starts full time next Monday. Flat on mower. Low tire on truck. DH is about to have one of those days.

The last of winter preps arrives tomorrow. Jobs are work from home. Only need for trips to town will be for produce or to visit mom at nursing home. My kind of winter.

Busy day but not mega stressful.

After reviewing things from son's neuro, I upped his seizure med. He was actually taking a pretty low dose according to doc. We aren't sure if this is a permanent change or temporary. The decision will be reviewed in a few months. He's been on it for quite a few years, so this is likely a permanent increase due to tolerance. And his milk thistle is also increased.

Right now we are holding out on increasing his migraine med. The two issues tend to go hand in hand. Currently we are hoping that the increase in seizure med will support the migraine med.

Knowing when to increase his seizure med is kind of hard. He gets atonic seizures 99.9% of the time. The only signs are normally memory issues and loss of skills. He had reached a point of increased frustration that was carrying over and bringing back some old behavior issues. Twenty four hours in and he's already stabilizing.

He is also, temporarily, getting ashwaganda, rhodiola rosea, chamomile, and passion flower. To help his body with clearing out the problem. There is a name for the axis in the body but I can't remember it at the moment. For me, GABA works on it - Fast! But not so much for son. But then we have two different issues.

Once he is stabilized, we will consider leucovorin for him. I can actually try two supplements that are the methylated versions of what leucovorin is broken down into. But not until the seizures and migraines are better.

I have been intrigued for a while by those verbal autists whose descriptions of meltdowns are extremely similar to those of seizures, at least as far as the brain behavior. I find it interesting that it looks like parts of autism happen along the same pathways as epilepsy. Brain seizures that don't affect muscle control?

On a different note, I went hunting for wood wall shelves like there used to be for oil lamps or candles. They no longer exist as far as Dad and I could find. So I asked him for a price for a set of them. I will attach mirrors or reflective film to the backs. Those will become the homes for my emergency lanterns.

Anyways, I'm off to bed. My body would still like to catch up on the lost sleep from Saturday. Son has been calmer today, and for that I am grateful.

I've missed having time to post and read. Once I finished the book I was reading a few weeks ago, things got hectic IRL. I'm still working on purging and have been hitting it hard since the book. I have three more inside areas to do and a couple outside...it's been rewarding to say the least.

Keep in mind, my business areas are included...this house is big and rambles because we attached my work area to the house with a good sized room. That's the main thing I worked on today and am not quite finished with it but I got a lot done. My pantry is built into that room so that makes it even more challenging. I keep it pretty clean and organized at all times but I did do some rotating today.

There is a small closet between our main downstairs bathroom and bedroom that opens from both sides. The grands are with us a lot so we keep their clothes in that closet. I tackled it Friday and the amount of stuff I took out of it was unreal. So many nice clothes those two have outgrown and two tubs of fabric in the bottom among many other things. I took out all but their clothes and had DH put in another hanging rod halfway down so now their clothes are on two separate rods with lots of room so everything will be easy to find. Oldest DS called Satrurday to say he'd be here Sunday...thankfully I was almost done with that closet. I got into straightening my mess up mode and started planning a meal.

When he called on Saturday, DGD and I had taken a break and were working on the Christmas tree. We often decorate it early for fall with pumpkins and all manner of fall stuff so when Christmas comes around all we have to do is take off the fall stuff and the tree already has the lights on and is ready to decorate for Christmas. His visit made it seem like a holiday and the tree was so pretty if I say so myself...it was a nice break from the hectic pace even if getting everything pulled together was hectic. DS had some elderberry tincture brewing and brought me a jar. I sent him home with a few meals worth of leftovers...his wife is working out of town this week. I'd cooked his favorite spaghetti, green beans and yeast rolls. I topped it off with a blueberry jello poke cake and they all loved that. I'd fixed DGD a strawberry one on her birthday a couple weeks ago and it was a big hit so I figured they'd like the blueberry one too and they did.

I ran out of dog food around Friday...I know that is bad for a prepper but I only have room to store so much and we had a lot going on. The dogs have been in hog heaven because I cook for them when that happens. I also ran out of one of my chicken feeds but they haven't missed a meal either so tomorrow I have to go buy feed. I would have done it today but one of my main stops wasn't open. I sprinkled a little of the goats sweet feed into the very nice scratch I buy them plus giving them some of those veggies in the freezer that I bagged up instead of throwing away when I cleaned it out and some of the doggy casseroles I've been making lol.. Everyone was happy. It's back to boring old dog food and chicken feed tomorrow...mama's tired of cooking for them lol.

Their butler has gone on strike, LOL! I can relate.

Busy here, too. I've got AI seminars this week. I'll refrain from ranting, except to say that in some fields, it's just another time-wasting fad, similar to bringing in the inventory robots at Walmart stores. The idea is good, but there are a number of reasons why it's not ready for prime time, least of all human monkey wrenching (humans sabotaging machines), but none of the trainers want to hear that, so I keep my mouth shut.

We all had a great time, yesterday. It was like family getting together after a few years apart. Like we had known each other all our lives. It felt so comfortable being with Dale. He's leaving Tupelo this morning on his way on to Ohio to visit his daughter. I hope he decides to come back this way on his way back to Wyoming, so he can stop back by here, again.

I have a doctor's appt. this afternoon for a BP med check. If it isn't raining and storming, I want to go to Belk's to see about getting those wooden spoons I want. We'll eat out, before coming back home. Needless to say, with all the fried fish, what I ate last night, and what I'll eat again, tonight, I've gained 3 pounds, already. Not good, but I'll get back to my rigid diet, later. You just can't lose weight if you eat out a lot, even though, I try to select foods from the menus that are the healthiest with the least calories.

We got a hard shower for about 3 minutes last night. We could get a couple of thunderstorms (nothing severe), today, and I hope we get more rain.

We were supposed to get a little bit of rain last night. If we got it, it sure wasn't much.

Yesterday I put Dad's old hand saws up in the top of the barn. I look at those and marvel about the land grandpa cleared. I have one of the old mule collars too. Mom always said she was going to put a mirror in it.

Helped DH disassemble an old lawnmower for parts. So happy he keeps finding the tools that I promised him had not been sold. : )

DGD was blessed with new and better job after hospital cut old one. DD still looking after same issue. Local hospital is testing AI scribes and coders.

Working on a manuscript for an elderly gentleman. Pretty sure writing is what keeps him going. Have been doing his typing/editing for years. He tends to take pages from OLD projects and insert into new. Unfortunately I could not find some of his pages so retype it is. I would dictate them but his writing is full of italics and bolds and quotes. He is intelligent and can discuss things even if he doesn't agree. (Not much of that in our neck of the woods.) We disagree greatly but have some great conversations.

Looking for his old work led to cleaning up some files. I have far too many external hard drives. One of my winter projects is going to be cleaning them up. Looking forward to winter this year since I can enjoy it.

I love old stuff like that! I have Cary's grandfathers old hand saw as a decoration on the house wall of our front porch with other old decorations around it. It makes a nice old display. I have my grandfather's old single tree that he used on his old mule to plow his fields with, until tractors were a big thing down here. I don't have the collar, though. I, also, have my grandmother's cow bell that hung around her milk cow's neck. Both the single tree and the cow bell are hanging in my laundry room. Also, on my front porch for added decoration, I have Cary's 2xgreat-grandmother's spinning wheel and my dad's corn scoop shovel. The shovel also hangs on the house wall on the other end of the front porch. When people walk up to my front porch, they don't know if we live in a barn or an old cabin, LOL. It all looks really nice and organized, though. I love to decorate!

We got rain last night. Still getting sprinkles and random downpours.

Son and I both have barometric migraines. But he is also doing much, much better at communicating. And so far today, nothing out the window.

Just did a Prime deals order for several things. Most of it security related. Will likely go back tonight and do a supplements order since those are 15% off.

Only been a half day and my brain is tired. Mainly from employee errors today. But also, I hate reconciling PayPal.

Off to check on son, then go get a few more hours in. I really want to get as caught up as much as humanly possible, as quickly as possible.

Been busy shopping for little things. Tons of toilet paper (Rural King brand is just fine, and is on sale), dish soap, canned peaches, lots of batteries, that kind of thing. Did order three life straws off Amazon. Already have some, but couldn't pass up the deal. Was really hoping that more stuff I wanted would be on sale, but I will take what I can get.

I got a great report from my doctor. My BP was perfect, but he saw where it had been dropping way too low. He took me off the BP med! I have to continue to check it morning and evening, and if it starts going up above what he wants my normal to be, I can begin taking it again. It was only a very small dose, anyway.

I found my wooden utensils. I bought a 3-piece set, but I wanted more than one spoon, so I bought a set of just spoons. All are made of acacia wood. Now, I can rid myself of all these plastic ones. I also bought a stainless steel spatula.

We get to rest, tomorrow.

Thursday, I have another doctor appt. with my retina specialist. My vision is doing so well I don't believe that I will have to have an injection this time, either.

We only got a small shower of rain just as we were leaving for Tupelo. That's it for the foreseeable future.

I have a single tree too. I just couldn't remember what it was called! :geek: i have gmas old irons and a gas powered iron. One of the wheels from the wagon that brought gma here is in the yard against a pine tree. Love how it looks. I love old houses and old stuff. Gotta find somewhere to put all my old oil lanterns. I only need a few out in the house.

@Krysan. Praying for those headaches to let up. I get them too and DH actually uses my face pain instead of the sky to determine when the rain is going to start. I get them when the barometric pressure changes and there isn't rain. They are both headaches but feel different.

Trying L-tryptophan tonight for sleep. Have to do another in town drug test Wednesday so will stop by the post office then.

Praying Judy gets a good report. I remember my mom's drains and bandages and stuff.

Is it only Wednesday. It feels like it should be the end of the week.

The other grandparents are off kid duty this week due to cataract surgery. Our daughter took today off because Hubby has a dr appointment out of town that he can't miss. We will keep kids again Thursday till our daughter gets home. That's only a few hours at their house.

I got a total of 20 quarts and 1 pint of applesauce canned. I still have some apples left. I am not sure what I am making with them. A pie for sure this weekend. But that won't use them all.

Our son and daughter in law just ordered 600 strawberry plants to plant here on the farm. So this weekend will be spent working on getting the area ready to plant. Son said if it doesn't work out, he has wasted more money on stupider stuff before. If it does work out, they are closer to full time farming. He says they will order thornless blackberries later. Trying to work the farm and work full time the first couple of years is going to be the hard part. His home and the farm are 30 miles apart. I suggested they save some vacation days for picking season. I also suggested letting trusted friends do you-pick on days they can't pick. My best friend said she would love to be their first customer for that. The farms here are getting $20 or more a gallon for pre picked strawberries. I hope and pray they can make a go of it.

Hubby called the nursery to get on the list for fruit trees. We want 3 heritage cherry trees. We planted 2 cherries last year, but they are hybrids. We both love the old Montgomery cherry. I have planted seeds I saved, but none have come up.

We got 8/10 of an inch of rain yesterday. We weren't forecast to get any but it was much needed.

I have to get busy. Have a blessed day everyone.

Other than that little sprinkle shower we got yesterday as we were leaving, we have no rain in our forecast all the way through next week. Things are getting very brittle, here.

We have today off. I'm getting caught up on all the laundry and will finally be able to cook a decent meal, tonight. I can only tolerate eating out just so much, then it gets old. I ate Chinese last night. Cary has 12 new books that Dale bought for him as a gift, so he will get started on those, today. Nothing for him to do, today. He is an avid reader. If there is any clutter in our house, it's from all his books stuck everywhere, LOL. He won't part with any of them, although, I have tried to get him to rid himself of some of the older ones to make room for new. If I read and collected books the way he does, we would have to build another storage shed for all of our books!

I processed two male turkeys with my All American Canner. I still have my breeding pair and 7 growing up in various stages of growth.
Several deer and a buck are coming into the back yard according to my camera. I'm fixin' to get one or two this season.
It will be lots of good meat for the mason jars.
I also like the Zojuroshi bread maker I got several months back.

I sent out two CDV 717 high range radiation survey meters for repair and calibration service to KI4U. I got them real cheap on Ebay and sent them down to be evaluated. They should be arriving home shortly. They are nice because they come with a 25 foot extension cable for placing the sensor outside the expedient shelter to safely monitor gamma levels without having to go out and retrieve readings. It's last call for calibration services before it ends in January.

I've also been working on my portable solar projects. Now have about 500watts of panels and lithium batteries. All portable so it can be set up and taken down for moving or storage or avoiding detection.
I no longer use any alkaline batteries. I migrated over to USB-c chargeable lithium ion batteries for gadgets.

Also picked up a small Jackery that will surely power my pellet stove. It's fun to prep!

I certainly can identify with Cary. Turned one bedroom into a library. Just haven't had time to read in last 3 years.

We got a short but heavy rain right after DH mowed yesterday, lol.

Spending today customizing computer for new job. Had the techs hold off a day so I could get tv set up as large monitor. New (to me) dell desktop does dual monitors but I had to get different hdmi cables. Picked up adapters. And hair color. If I am going to be on screen in class til end of month I can at least try to look halfway decent. Guessing I will be the oldest in class. Won't be on screen for job. Hallelujah.

Finding we liked everything new we tried from Aldi's. Strawberry jam, barbecue sauce, organic chips. Just need to make a note in day book so we can get more next trip.

Beautiful day. Cool and bright.

I like to read, too, but the books I'm interested in are not what Cary likes. I've gone through all my older books several times and threw most away. I had read them so many times, I had lost interest in them. Now, all my books take up 2 small wall shelves in our bedroom. Cary's takes up the rest of the house!

I've made the "not so subtle" suggestion to him several times that we need additions onto our house. Another bedroom/bath, a larger kitchen, and another room for use as a library. I fear he has gone "tone deaf" to those suggestions, though.

So far this week I've accomplished - zero - except for Bible study yesterday (we finished Romans) and to town today to pick up the shoes I ordered and did some HyVee, Walmart and Aldi shopping. Had stuff to return to Walmart before 30 days expired.

The weather has been beautiful and is supposed to continue through this week and most of next. A couple of cloudy days but otherwise sunny with 70's most days with a few days of 60's. I plan to work outside to get the fence down the next few days. I need to start harvesting zinnia seed and pull the pepper plants. The peppers are still producing but the bugs are ruining them. I can't recall a year when we've gotten into mid-October without a frost.

I need to cover the a/c, drain and haul the hoses to the basement and make arrangements to get garden debris hauled. Usually, I would have the furnace checked before heating season, but the furnace is only two years old. I suppose I should have it checked but it's so expensive as the trip charge itself is $90. Definite downside to living in small rural town. I keep my thermostat at 68 degrees and early this morning the furnace ran two times. I need to change the filter although the a/c did not run much this year, and I put a new one in before a/c season.

You'd think after 10 years I'd remember all these little jobs that my late dh always took care of or reminded me to do when he no longer could.

Pray everyone is doing okay.

I haven't colored my hair in years but I'm considering it...it's gotten so white but not that pretty white...that beige tinged white and it's so curly. I've been playing with the old Roux rinses that we used in the beauty shop fifty years ago. They are still around and not bad but they are temporary...can't decide if I want to go permanent and fight the roots or just stick with the Roux and get a subtle tone. I swore when I grew the color off ten years ago, I'd never go back but I didn't know how old it would make me look when it all turned white.
Also picked up a small Jackery that will surely power my pellet stove. It's fun to prep!
The pellet stove should be fine. It was fun, in the beginning getting all those new toys, but now just another chore. Keeping those preps truly rotated and restocked for a few decades has taken the shine off.

Back in the day, all the years we had our pool, we lived in and around it during the summer. My hair stayed sun bleached. I used color on it to give it a more even color. I haven't used any in years, and I still don't have gray hair at 66 yrs. old. My mom is 85 and still hasn't gone gray. She doesn't use color on it, either.

Our high temp yesterday never made it to 80 degrees. Only 77, and I was chilled the whole day. 53 degrees for our low last night, and it's really chilly this morning. 79 for our high, today. Cary plans to clean the wood heater and wood stove flues next week. We have that whole week off with nowhere to be.

Retina specialist appt. today.

Hopefully, we'll hear from Judy, today. If not, I'm going to be getting really concerned for her. I know she had a major surgery, and it will take time for her to heal, but she has made a couple of post here, since she had surgery. That was days ago (a week?), though. I'm continuing to pray.

I see Judy was online last evening around 10 pm. She probably doesn't feel much like talking right now... When the nerve blocks wear off, they start pushing you to decrease the pain meds, and swelling is still a big problem, it can be rough for a few days.

Still praying for her!

Two things resolved this week -- clarification of my RX supplemental policy for 2026 and this morning resolution of the Woman Within double billing. I wrote a detailed letter to my credit card company with copies of pages from the catalog. Got a call from cc lady early this morning, second call later saying WW wanted to be patched in on a call and then a final call saying WW had finally agreed I was right and would be refunding to my cc. Cc lady said she will monitor to be sure credit is received in a timely fashion.

Got the south side of garden fence down this afternoon, pulled fence posts, rolled fence. Fence posts are not put away but fence is. Decided to pick all the peppers and pull plants as the bugs destroy them as soon as they start turning color. Got an ice cream bucket full of mostly green which I'll chop and freeze. The cages around the peppers are put away and the posts are with the others waiting to be put away. I've decided to leave the north/south fences up on either end of the garden so just have the north side of the garden left to take down. It is the worst full of grass, so I really dread working on it. Thankfully the forecast for the next week is all good so I can take my time. I also started cutting the Autumn Joy behind the house. The Hosta's and ferns can be week whacked or mowed so I left them. I did cut the stems from the large hosta because the weed whacker won't cut them. Also, cut a small bucket of dried zinnia heads for next year's seed and covered the a/c. Crossing a few items from the list feels good!!

While working in the zinnias I saw four Monarchs within a 3-foot square plus wild bees and other smaller butterflies. Makes me so happy!!
