It took about 2 1/2 hours for the forest fire to be put out. It was a couple of miles down the road from us. The firefighters/Forestry Service got to it, before it had time to spread too much. I don't know what caused it, yet, but hope to find out. They are usually caused by folks going against the burn ban and burning brush, anyway, or smokers throwing out their still lit cig butts out the window of their vehicle.

We actually got some rain, overnight. Don't know how much, other than everything was wet outside when we got up. The storms never developed. It will help with the fire danger, but it's going to take monsoon rains to break our drought. No tropical system to break it this year it seems.

Home fellowship this morning.

So glad the fire got put out, SB!

It's great you were able to get out, WanderLore!

I'm sitting down for coffee and a quick scan of the news.

I watered my outside containers (still have lettuce, peas, and cherry tomatoes!), dug what I think is the last of the onion sets (I planted more than I thought), started laundry, started bread and meatloaf (for the week), and started running the sweeper. I'm out of energy.

Later, I'll do my Sunday drive and finish sweeping and dusting. The house isn't bad. That last decluttering has helped keep down the piles, which also means I can quickly dust and sweep the floors. It's still harvest, and if I don't keep up with the dusting and sweeping, I would be able to start seeds on top of my coffee table.

Wishing everyone a great day!

Morning started rough. As far as I can tell, son either didn't sleep or had nightmares. Nothing I did made him happy.

Migraines meds in board. GABA on board. I tested Moroccan mint to see if it would settle the stomach part. It did, so I made a capsule batch as well as a pitcher of the tea to mix into his regular tea. We'll see if it helps enough.

Piles of laundry getting done. Three bags out to the van so far. Son's areas looking neater. But I swear he made a mess of things just for the sake of it. Had to refold things.

May have figured out another part of why getting up is so hard in the mornings now. Going to test my theory and see if the change works.

After home fellowship, it's been a relaxing day for us. The rain we got last night is already gone. You can't tell by looking at the ground that we even got any. I'm sure it helped, though. I think we got enough to bring the wheat up in the farmer's fields around us. It wasn't enough to keep the other farmers from still harvesting their late soybeans, though. Fields are already dry enough to work in.

According to Cary, the new crock pot meal recipe is a keeper. I'm warming the rest of it up for Cary, and I made myself a chicken and broccoli pasta salad for tonight. I'll make cornbread again for him.

Nothing planned at all for the coming week.

I've found I need to take my melatonin about 7 pm - makes for a (usually) more restful night. We had a HARD freeze overnight - every thing is mush, and even the cabbage had ice between the leaves. That's OK - I had everything harvested I wanted. I'm kind of hoping the guy who rents our pasture will put up a hot wire and let the cows have the rest of the pumpkins and squash. They really enjoy it.

Working on lots of little things. Extra side gig this week, that I'm hoping will pay decent - but if it doesn't that's OK. Trip to the big city for an estate - again, hope that it pays decent. Lunch was cabbage and kielbasa and I made some tapioca pudding. I haven't had it in years.

do any of you by chance have a Caynel air fryer? A friend has loaned me her to see if I want to actually get one, but I can't figure out how to get it to 'start'. The power button comes on, I can tell how to set it for time and temp (or one of the presets), but the actually start button is a mystery.

Got 1.91" of rain yesterday. High of 67 degrees today. Severe missed us just to the south barely.

Good meals on the menu for lunch at the senior center for Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday this week. Some of the other days would likely be OK if I didn't have to work around my digestive issues.

No medical appointments until next month.

I am thinking of getting a programmable crockpot so it can cook while I am at work and be ready to eat when I get home.

I love cooking in mine. I always use crock pot liners, so there is never a mess to clean up. I don't work outside our home, but having a programmable one is nice for those who do. I dump everything in it in the morning, turn it on low, and let it cook. It's always ready when we are ready to eat supper.

There's a slight learning curve with crock pots. See a few youtubes or look at a few recipes by reputable chefs. Avoid the urge to dump everything into it and walk away, as some youngsters do on TikTok videos. Example: brown the pot roast before putting it in the crock pot. No, it's not absolutely necessary, but it'll taste better.

Maybe this? (From Google AI)

On Caynel air fryers with a digital touch panel, the
Power button also functions as the start/pause button. After setting your cooking time and temperature or selecting a preset function, you press the Power button again to start the cooking process.
To start the air fryer:
  1. Plug in the appliance to a grounded outlet. The LCD touch control panel will light up.
  2. Set the time and temperature using the + and - buttons, or choose one of the preset functions.
  3. Press the Power button once more to begin cooking.

We have rainy weather moving in, with maybe some snow by the end of the week. Still have only had one light frost, so much is blooming and I am cutting bouquets to bring inside. (Does anyone remember that part of The Lord of the Rings where Goldberry brings in bowls of river water for the winter with water lilies floating in them?) Bringing in the flowers is a way to extend the fall...
I was walking the dog in the forest today and saw the first ghost fern- a perfectly grown fern, but white. As winter approaches, the ferns pull the green photosynthesizing pigments down into the roots to save them for next spring. The ghost ferns are weirdly beautiful above the emerald green mosses they grow in.

It's down right cold this morning. I turned on the little electric space heater in the bathroom while I was getting a shower this morning. I'm still chilled, but I'll put on my work sweater in a bit. 45 right now with 74 for our high, today. We had no heat going at all last night. Another cold front coming in, so we do have a small chance of more rain, tomorrow. Another good chance of rain for the weekend if the forecast holds true.

I'm making pulled pork BBQ in my crockpot, today. Cary will have that on buns with cole slaw and chips. I have leftover pasta salad. What's left of the BBQ will be put in the freezer for another freezer meal to have later on. I found a smoked boneless half ham in the meat freezer that is thawing in the fridge that will need to be cooked tomorrow night.

Laundry is already going. It's too cold for me to hang it outside, so in the dryer it will go. I don't have my wooden drying racks set up for winter use, yet. I will be getting those out and dusting them off, today. I usually don't start using those, until we begin having a fire in the wood stove. I set up the racks in the laundry room close to the wood stove. It doesn't take long at all for things to dry.

It's in the 50s now, but it'll go into the 70s, so I didn't turn the furnace on, either. I've got a space heater going in the kitchen for a few minutes to take the chill off.

Before I went to bed last night, I scattered several salvaged wool blankets around the house: couch, recliner, and in two boxes. I think my kitty slept on all of them last night and then came to bed with me early this morning. She didn't become a "hat," so I knew she wasn't that chilly. When she starts sleeping next to my head, I turn on the heat.

I just went through the house closing all the mini blinds in every window. It makes the house darker during the winter, but it helps keep the cold from coming in. I need to get out all of our flannel bedsheets to air out, before I start using them. All of my blankets and throws have already been washed, dried, and folded into big wicker baskets. One beside the sofa, and the other one next to the recliner. I have extra throws and blankets in the camel back trunk in our bedroom. I have them all squished down in those vacuum storage bags. I save all of my old towels to use as draft stoppers rolled up in front of each outside door. This old house is rather drafty.

Prayers would be helpful, please. In ER with son. He is about to completely meltdown due to environment. And they have actively tried to separate us twice. Hopefully being reminded that I am his guardian, and they have that on record, has stopped that nonsense.

We are finally in an overflow room. He calmed quickly once we got in here. He is actually coherent and responsive to the nurses and doctors, which is a massive miracle. He allowed a blood draw without having to be held down, which is another miracle. We are waiting for a CT, depending on the current test results.

Triage and front desk did not get a lot of his info which may be why they tried the separation BS. The nurse for his room did get it, and updated a lot in his file. I truly hadn't realized how long it had been since I brought him to the ER.

And my head hurts as much as his right now.

Thanks for the update! I've been praying ever since you told us you were in the ER with him. I'm also praying that nothing severe is wrong and can be treated, quickly.

Still here. About to go crazy but not because of hospital. Two roommates now and one being loud about not being front of the line because " they are racist". And everyone keeping her company just as loud and obnoxious. And offended because there is a man (my son) in the same room. And and and and and.

They gave son Ativan to try to calm him for the CT. He had finally fallen asleep. And she started up again, waking him up. No idea how this will go now.

We are home. It's been way to long of a day. They didn't find what it was. They did find what it wasn't. And the suggestion is to get him in to a gastro as soon as possible to see if his ulcer is back. Ugh.

I was in the middle of arranging help so I could get son to the car when nurse and security officer said they would stay with him while I went to get the van. He was so happy to be heading out that I decided that it was worth the risk. Back 5 minutes later and he was thrilled to see the van. Definitely better than waiting another 20 minutes for a friend to get there.

Oh, and he is very dehydrated. I am not sure why they didn't administer IV fluids but I will be using mean mom voice to fix that problem over the next few days. And Liquid IV.

I will be absolutely thrilled to not have to deal with other humans beings for a while. Hermit mode is engaged. Loud problem patient turned out to be a liar who was looking for pain killers. The hospital reached out to her surgeon whose response got her sent home. They did word it politely.

Son actually did really, really well until he hit overload. And even then, he tried. He just couldn't. Later, a third nurse tried to separate us during the CT scan. The dumbfounded look on her face when I said no was priceless. The further level of stunned when I just flat out told her that there was no risk of pregnancy because the plumbing was gone hit new heights of amusing. When she finally found her voice again, she asked why and I politely explained that if son got overloaded and exploded then I was their only hope of calming him. My response when she suggested that they, and security, could handle it was not polite on any level. They decided that they'd just get me a lead apron and leave us alone. He did good until the third scan. Then he pulled his arms out and started exploring the inside of the CT scanner. It was kind of amusing.

Ativan will calm him. It also removes behavior barriers. Hence the exploring the CT tube. And the two attempts to bolt on the way back to the room.

Anyways, I'm about to crash. Too much adrenaline today. I'm beat.

I haven't accomplished anything the last two days unless you count an hour washing dishes Sunday evening.

My grandson is at loose ends without a job and with all the medical stuff going on so he keeps calling me. A friend I mentor has been having meltdowns and calling a LOT. Tempted to unplug the phones!! Probably not a good idea because when my phone was out of order a few years back my grandson called his brother who called my dd, then the brother called his stepdaughter who was local police officer and dd called her boyfriend who was at his mom's here in town and both hit my driveway about the same time at 10:30 p.m. The phone company had switched my service to fiberoptic which meant my phone did not ring in. I could call out, and Internet still worked so I was unaware. Phone company did that two more times because they could not figure out that I live on one of the two streets in town where they did not install fiberoptic. So no, I won't turn my phone off and start another shitz storm.

Tomorrow, we start a new Bible study on Heaven. The lady who will be leading it uses media plus lecture rather than all reading the Scripture and discussing. I may drop out of this study if it's too media related.

Asked a gentleman from church to reattach a downspout extension for me and he did so this morning. He's helped me with small projects in the past, and I truly appreciate it.

My fingertips and thumb on my right hand are still sore from putting the rubber squares together for the garage floor which is one reason I've not done much the last two days. They are better today so perhaps by tomorrow I'll be able to accomplish something...unless I think of another excuse!

Doing my normal morning FB Marketplace scroll and seeing things that confirm that people are tightening up. Lots of things that normally wouldn't be sold. And lots of "I want almost new prices" for well used items.

I'm debating whether it's worth putting some items up. Just to recoup some of the costs. But then I remember the headache and the continual no shows. Nope.

Made the drive to the post office this am to pick up my last attempt at a docking station that will play nice with laptop. I got a delivered notice but forgot that branch of usps marks items delivered when they are loaded on truck. Not when they are in your box. Dry run. Will have to make the drive again in the morning unless DH manages to leave with scrap before they close at 11:30.

Furnace is not working. Our furnace guy is on vacation and we are waiting for his return. Really sucky timing - right after taxes. I replaced top sheet with winter blanket on bed last night. It's not horribly cold, just cool. We do have electric heaters and gas fireplace if necessary.

Off to class.
