I'm fully expecting another shutdown for our state right after election day, so I'm topping off toilet paper, soups, and November 1st, I plan to buy the Christmas candy for the stockings.

I'll be making my Christmas run Nov. 1st, before election day. I don't think our state will shut down, but things might get ugly in town, once the election takes place. I want to make sure I have everything in case we have to stay out of town for awhile. That also will include everything needed for our Thanksgiving meal.

I have a huge order for Walmart pickup going, I'm just waiting for them to get our dog food back in. We use Biljac for our 11 year old pup and he does well on it. I thinking about ordering a bread maker but to be honest I can make bread pretty quickly in my kitchenaid so I may skip it.

I've placed 2 Christmas orders and need to find a couple of other things then fill in with gcs. We do stocking stuffers with the family and everyone loves it. I'm in charge of the saran wrap game so that's next on the list.

Going to cover up the few things in the garden when the temps get low next week. I have radishes and swiss chard. I wanted to plant some frost hardy bak choy but didn't get in the ground.

Washing up blankets, hoodies, warm pjs and making sure there's plenty of cocoa for next week!
I wish our Walmart carried BilJac

Today’s “prep” is going to the dentist.
I’m embarrassed to admit, but it’s been years. I have no good excuse. It’s time to get caught back up on routine cleanings.

Edited to fix spelling errors (I posted pre coffee)

Been pretty busy the last several weeks anticipating a possible extended period of civil unrest following the election coming up. Been look at essential items that I didn't have a backup for and have been rectifying that. Already have a new back up shallow well pump in the shed and a backup 12volt demand pump for the cabin but then I thought about the propane regulator and got a back up for that.

Battery charger on my solar battery bank blew up last week and I'm grateful for that as I really didn't have an adequate back up so got a constant duty 75amp Aims charger and have that wired into the solar system for winter days with little or no sunshine and that can also run off the backup generator.

I have a new refrigerator for the cabin on the way and should be here Tuesday and the old refrigerator is going into the storage shed. Also picked up more mundane things like a new set of winter boots as well as slippers and just things that we take for granted that we can always go to the store and buy.

Also replaced the stove pipe and adapters for the wood stove as well as replaced the fiberglass door gasket. As we move further into the financial/economic reset that is knocking on the door the shortages of basics that we saw at the beginning of Covid is going to look tame in comparison.

Not a prep item, but Cary is on his way to Sam's to buy a new TV and DVD player. We had a severe thunderstorm move over us last night, and lightning came in and blew both of them up. They're fried. Our power went out, before this happened, so we didn't think to unplug anything. We lost power for several hours due to trees falling on power lines just down the road from us.

Lots of yard cleanup now has to be done. It's too wet to do anything outside today, though.

It's been a fairly regular week. I'm heading to a birthday party today and will get groceries along the way. I need to get a new sim card for my phone, and haven't done that yet. The fires in Colorado are amazingly bad. I have added the prep I need to do over the weekend - taking pictures of everything possible in the house to make recovery from insurance easier should something happen. I don't live near the fires, but they are making me a little anxious.

I was able to put together some herbal things for a friend and will get them mailed today. Made a bunch of grindelia tincture (for coughs with thick sticky mucus).

So sorry your media setup 'sploded . . . hope Cary scores a great deal on the replacements.

But thank you for reminding me to put all my beloved electronics--especially my 'fridge and freezer--on a surge protector. Off to Home Despot!
Oy. Just when ya think you've covered all the bases . . . :gaah:

We had the TV and DVD player hooked into a surge protector, but it didn't help. Lightning blew that, too. So, he'll be replacing it as well. We have all of our important electronics on surge protectors, except for my stove.

We pulled the wire through the conduit for the work shed. Turns out to be 10 feet short. Not sure if my error or Lowes. Most likely mine. No biggie. I just have to put a 2nd box to bridge everything.

Also started building shelves and pulling wire for the outlets for the work shed. I have one more slab to pour before the end of the month. November is my build planters month. I promised the wife I would get everything done in November so she can get ready for the new season.

Oh, :poop: . . .

Well, you're way ahead of me vis-a-vis surge protectors! I bow before your superior preps. Hoping the next set of everything works flawlessly for you!

Well, we've learned our lesson, LOL! From now on, even the surge protectors will be unplugged when bad lightning is in our area. It could have been worse. We can survive without a TV and DVD player. It could have been our internet satellite dish, again. Yep, lightning hit it, and blew out our transponder. Another time, lightning hit our Direct TV dish.......Did I mention that I hate lightning? :gaah: I'm glad it wasn't our house that was hit!!!!

We placed a whole house protector due to lightning. Lost a stove and a fridge due to it. Nothing since.

Well, ya'll, I'm just ready to go back to bed, and try getting up again for a do over! Cary is back, and is having problems setting the new TV up. Called DS, and he is here trying to help. Still a no go.

While they are busy doing that, I decided to make a Lemon Ice Box Pie for tomorrow. Got everything together, Opened the condensed milk, and poured it into the mixing bowl. I had to open a new bottle of lemon juice out of the pantry. When I went to pour it into the measuring cup, it came out with black flakes in it. It was spoiled! Two years passed use by date.... I just poured the condensed milk into the garbage, and walked away........

Hopefully, we'll have TV by tonight!

ETA......Our Direct TV satellite receiver was blown, too. Will have to order a new one.

I lost a computer a few years back that was hooked up to the phone line for wifi. I was so upset, fortunately I had a back up computer, although I had not backed up what was on the computer that I lost.

Today I put 28 packages of Jiffy Corn Bread mix in a plastic bag in a five gallon bucket, I manages to suck most of the air out of the bag. I was going to put all of them in individual jars but it would be too many jars and my jar space is already filling up. In commodities this month we got two cases of instant oatmeal in individual bags, three flavors and plain. I put them in mylar bags, but I did not put 02's in the bags. These bags fit in a five gallon bucket. Both buckets are now in my she shed.

I can't remember if I've said that my beautiful gas stove is out of the storage shed and now living on my camper porch that is closed in on three sides and screened on the front (yah, I have a screen door to bang to my heart's content).

Some time in November we are getting a 250 gallon propane tank installed, just did not work out to get it done before the election. The stove will be hooked up to it, along with an option for the camper and the generator. When we have power outages we should be able to last for awhile keeping the freezers and refrigerators going. Now that the weather has cooled off I don't see the need to run the generator all day.

ETA: We got six boxes of cereal in commodities, I took the bags out of the boxes and put three bags of cereal and one bag of powdered milk in each 5 gallon bucket. We will likely never eat the cereal ourselves, but if by chance someone shows up with children, it would be breakfast for awhile.

God is good all the time
