Regarding canned foods, I consider them SHTF insurance. I can't eat a lot of veggies due to kidney stone or colitis diet but keep a supply of the ones I can eat on-hand. Even if day to day I use fresh, that SHTF supply stays on the shelf. I figure better expired than none. I have the storage room.

Old popcorn gets too dry to pop but it can be rehydrated by putting into a quart jar and adding a tablespoon of water, giving it a good shake and letting it set for a day or two. Popcorn can also be ground into cornmeal. Not sure the birds would/should have it. Better check with an expert. I like popcorn but not a huge fan so a mini bag of microwave popcorn every once in a while, is enough for me. My late dh would pop a large dishpan full and eat the whole thing himself. I'd sometimes take a handful but more often not.

My garage floor is so slick it is a fall hazard when you step on it with wet or snowy shoes. I bought two boxes of rubber tiles to put on the floor where I walk into the garage and finally got them snapped together and down today. They did not go together easily but it's done. Another item checked off my list!!

I have 3 or 4 kerosene lamps, extra wicks and oil. I hate using them, but as a prep I keep them. I also have battery and white gas camp lanterns. The gas one hasn't been used in 20 maybe 30 years so should probably donate it. I have numerous flashlights all over the house, and best of all I have a Generac generator that comes on as soon as the power goes off.

I haven't had a microwave for 3 years or so. And I don't want another one. I have the stovetop poppers but they are a pita to clean. And regardless of how hard I try stuff burns to the bottom.

My parents had an air popper when we were kids. This is just a smaller version of that. Given son and I's dietary differences it should make it easier for each of us to have some we enjoy. And if it works well, I'll grab a backup.

My popcorn has been in vacsealed containers. But if it doesn't pop, I'll try your trick, Anna. But honestly it would also be fun to explore the different versions of popcorn kernels that have been coming out.

Laundry is going. That's leading to piles in the van for thrift.

I got the sash locks in son's bedroom switched out today. The keys are attached to the window trim at the top in case I need them. The 2nd keys were labeled and put on the house key rack. And I need to buy a glass breaker to put in there, like the one in my car, so that in an emergency we don't even need to worry about the keys if we can't do it.

First drawer in son's dresser has been cleared out completely and wiped down. I'm giving enough time to be sure the cleaner is dry before I put clean clothes in. Son is a little confused by his new clothes. And I have two pairs of shorts, so far, that need to be returned. One pair too big, one pair too small.

Anyways, about to go figure out dinner.

OMG! We've got a forest fire going right now! 3 fire engines and firefighters just went down the road with sirens blaring. We went outside to see if we could see smoke, but the trees are too tall around us. Cary is on the phone with a neighbor to see if he can get more info. Praying those rains come soon! We can smell smoke. It's pretty breezy out right now ahead of the storm front.

It's been a long busy day. Lots of people out - friend with his 2 boys to get pumpkins and drop off a cattle guard and some stuff for DH, guys spraying a foam and paint thing on the roof of our storage house and shop, DH's co-worker dropping off his new toy (see the show me your tractor thread if you've wondered what I look like. It's a baler he bought for $250), and a group from town to pick pumpkins. Tonight we should get our first freeze, so the pumpkins needed to go.

I'm tired!
