Just getting this week started …

We had to be posting at the same time. I just deleted mine.

We have nothing going on, today. I got everything outside watered in good last evening. It's dangerously dry out there.

It's chilly again this morning. I'm sitting here with a sweater on. High temp of 82, so that will heat things up, nicely. All this week, it's supposed to be in the mid to upper 80's, but low 50's at night. It's cool enough in the late evenings to fire up our solo stove on the deck and sit out and enjoy nature. It's too dry for anything with open embers, though.

I'm guessing that this one is today's thread. I need more tea, LOL!

I slept in and when I finally got up, I made scrambled eggs, toast, and tea. My stomach is unhappy with me this morning. I don't know if it's a bug or something I ate yesterday. I'll see how I feel after I eat and maybe go sit on the deck rather than go anywhere.

Today's tasks originally included shopping the sales at several garden centers but that can wait. I'm watching for more marked-down hostas and hardy mums. I'll clean them up and plant them in back with a thick layer of mulch. They will overwinter just fine. The mums will go in the sunny spot.

Wishing everyone an excellent day! Prayers are ongoing for Judy.

We're just plugging along.
Just under 40 degrees here this morning with high winds. Some rain off and on.

Friday we got the wood splitter into the barn for the winter. The largest new pile of cut logs covered.

Yesterday the chain saws put away and a few other things ready for winter. Made a batch of plum jelly. Will be doing more plums this coming week.

I was scrounging around in the meat freezer, yesterday, to clean out another section. I found an old 1lb. pack of ground beef dated 2017! It was brown, so I threw it out. I also found several vacuum sealed packs of bacon and a small pork tenderloin that was also sealed dated to about the same time. I don't know if those will still be good or not. The color still looks ok for both the packs of bacon and the tenderloin. Those will need to be brought out and cooked really soon if they pass the smell test. I, also, found more dry beans. Mainly, all that's left in there are a couple of recently bought half hams, bacon, Polish Kielbasa, and a few packages of ground beef, plus a few packs of hot dogs and bologna. It's just not emptying out as fast as I had hoped.

I would love to get out all the dry beans and can them, but I just don't have room to store them, once they are canned. I would get out a bag to go ahead and cook, but I'm trying to eat down all the store bought canned beans that are approaching their expire dates. I might do that, anyway, just to use some of them up, once we start using the wood stove.

Handling a random issue. I put locking sash locks on son's windows years ago. Discovered that the keys disappeared sometime in the last month. They are no longer in the drawer right next to the windows. I suspect son got to them in a moment of curiosity. I will likely never see them again.

So replacements ordered. This time I'll putty one to the upper trim. And put the other on the house key set.

At the same time, I ordered some for the front windows. The living room windows are easily accessible from the porch. One keyed lock on each should be sufficient. And I will do the same with those keys.

I'm debating cheap but noisy window and door alarms. The ones that squeal loudly when the connection is broken.

Linens in the washer. Meat thawing for Mexican casserole. Will work today on time blocking, mainly so DH can see when I will be at work. Afraid he is going to find it difficult to not pop in. Setting up serious work boundaries for myself - as in nothing work related after hours and on weekends. Actually moving personal business stuff to DHs office. Would love to trade offices (his is bigger and has more windows) but don't want him to feel forced out and, frankly, the thought of moving stuff is just no.

Have a lot of dry beans to can and will be doing that on Saturdays until I run out of room for jars.

DH is guiding Grands in rebuilding porch. Growing up learning how to do things leaves me amazed at what kids don't know how to do now days. Grand had no real raising and it appears her DH didn't either. Things we just do and don't think about are total unknowns for them. DH sometimes jokes about being the one raising them now.

the day is beautiful! I miscalculated the niceness of the day and made chili and homemade cinnamon rolls for lunch. Busy day today, but the irrigation is put away for the season, more pumpkins gone out of the garden, and I stripped 3 pepper plants and got the peppers tended to. Freeze dryer is full and running treats for the grandbaby, pickled beets and cowboy candy is done. Preps for class tomorrow are almost done.

I need to finish making some cough syrup today and finishing a tincture.

I'm feeling better. I suspect the last of the chicken salad was past its prime. I need to get better about either using stuff faster or tossing it out.

I went out in search of sale plants, but not much was left. I'll keep looking. I'm behind on steps, so this is one way to increase them. I might even go to Walmart in a bit, even though it's still the weekend. It's probably close enough to dinnertime to avoid some of the sketchier customers.

I pulled a couple packages of beef soup bones out of the freezer on Friday and thawed them overnight in the fridge. Yesterday afternoon I roasted them for an hour, today I have them simmering into stock.

Yesterday I also started turning freezer fruit into syrups and jams and things... a gallon bag each of blueberries and blackberries are now pie filling and syrup.

Hubby was supposed to rearrange my canning storage but hasn't had time, so I'm probably going to work on that tomorrow. Because I have something like 10 or 12 boxes of jars on the dining room table that have been waiting to be put away for over a month

I finally got myself a little jar vacuum sealer and that thing is fun.

Son and daughter-in-law are moving out of their apartment and into a rental house, and I'm looking forward to quietly adding things to their pantry.

Went to Sonic today. It was the last day to claim my free small shake for my birthday. Vacuumed out the car when I got back. It wasn't all that dirty but my wife had been complaining. It was mostly bits of grass and leaves that had been tracked in.

I have been extremely tired and prone to fall asleep with little to no warning. I suspect that it is related to the heart rhythm issues I have been having lately. The specialist said he wanted to give it a couple of months then do the recording heart monitor for a week again. If things don't improve we may have to do an ablation procedure. The monitor recorded three types of arrhythmia but the most common by far was ventricular tachycardia.

When I was in the office, my heart was "skipping" about every sixth to tenth beat. When it starts skipping every third or fourth beat it really leaves me weak and short of breath.

Happy Belated Birthday, Feralferret!

Rainy here this morning but no complaints from me! It's been too dry and field fires are a danger. This rain will help calm things down. I think I'll be harvesting seed potatoes this week.

Added: Prayers for Judy!

Back to early morning routines. Deer were in yard and bossy squirrel told DH to take a hike, lol.

Training starts at 9. Webex for 4 hours. I look good from the waist up :geek: . Nice top, makeup. Hair color turned out great. One of those "I really should have done it sooner" moments. Made sure my pens write blue just in case it's true that you retain things written in blue ink better than black ink.

DH is heading out with load of stuff for the county. Old paint, etc. Day is beautiful. Love fall.

Be blessed everyone.

Prayers for you, feralferrret, as well as for Judy.

Cary is going for what we hope and pray will be his last CT scan on his kidneys and a chest x-ray, today. He is allergic to the contrast they give for the CT scan, so he will take Benadryl 1 hour before his appointment time. That has always stopped the reaction. I take Benadryl with me in my purse in case he needs another dose afterwards.

We'll just come back home, once that is all done. It's so dry here that we don't want to leave the house unattended for long periods of time, plus, I have nothing in Tupelo I need or want right now.

Our forecast has a strong cold front coming down next weekend that might give us a chance of rain and heavy to severe thunderstorms. If we don't get rain then, our drought will turn severe.

Happy Belated Birthday, Feralferret!
Thank you.

Got a quarter inch of rain this morning. Forecast high of 76. Currently 74.

I have an appointment to get the front end alignment on my Taurus at 3 PM after getting the front suspension repaired from the accident a few months ago.

Rough day with exhaustion. Heart is skipping a lot of beats, over a third right now. Digestive system acting up. I had to take a nausea med earlier. Still not able to eat and drink. Prayers are greatly appreciated. Need to pick up several Rx pain meds that are ready for my wife after the wheel alignment. Prayers for both of us are appreciated.

Today has been interesting to say the least. The guy that does my mowing came over and mowed off front and back flower beds and grass in garden. Since frost isn't in the forecast, I hated that the beds needed to be mowed, but they must be to prevent worse drifting of snow. Since mowing is done for the year, he is wanting to get his mowers cleaned up and stored so I told him to go ahead.

I got the hoses disconnected, drained and hauled to the basement then spent some time in the basement moving stuff around. I realized I had an empty 4-shelf unit that could replace the one that rusted out so cleaned that up and moved it. Filled it with stuff from the broken unit and then moved some other items to make more room on other shelves. I did not put water on this unit as that is what rusted out the other one. Moved the water to the floor in another area of the basement.

My grandson called that he'd blacked out on the sidewalk and did a face plant. Good Samaritans helped him up when he came to and then called EMTs for him. EMTs took him to Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, which was the closest hospital. The ER diagnosed a blood clot in his lung and started him on blood thinners but told him he would need to be transported to either Mercy or Methodist. He chose Mercy but they had no openings so he's at Methodist. Called me later to say he was in ICU as he has an embolism in his heart. Surgery tomorrow he thinks, he was waiting on the doctor. I wouldn't be surprised if he has surgery tonight. His brother was taking their mom to Des Moines. Fortunately, he has an aunt and cousin that live near him, and his cousin was with him at the hospital earlier. Prayers would be appreciated.

Good news! Both Cary's CT scan and chest x-ray were clear! No sign of disease in either. We are so thankful and praising our Lord for this great news. Our urologist has now declared him cancer free, after 5 years of no reoccurrence.

I'll be doing some light housework and laundry, today. I need to do away with more old meat from the freezer. One pack of bacon I found was dated 2014! It must have got shuffled to the bottom. There might be more in there, so I want to dig around and see. Once I empty and defrost this freezer, I'm going to be putting all the meat, by categories, in bags, before putting it in there this time. I can keep it better organized that way.

Our high temps are still in the mid 80's with low 50's at night. Next week, starting Sunday, temps will only be in the mid 70's for our highs and low 40's at night. More seasonal for this time of year. Dad always said to watch for our first light frost around the middle of October.

Tomorrow is our shopping day. Lists are all made and ready to go.

Praying for your GS, anna.

We're just plugging along.
Good some of you folks are having some week eek.

We got the potato's and onions all put away yesterday. Gave the neighbor and his family 50 lbs of potato's. Frost is expected here for 2 nights and then during the say around 50 until Saturday night. Then rain starts again.

Suggested to 26 yr old grandson he might think about taking some on line courses. Right now he still lives with his dad and doesn't have a job. I told him if something happens to your dad, you're up a creek without a paddle. Our son works for the railroad, so it's not like he has a real high paying job.

In the 50s and rainy here. The leaves are finally turning, but it's going to be another one of those falls with short-lived color. My little tree is very sad looking. It should be a beautiful yellow color right now, but it has blotchy color, with half of the leaves gone. That last hot spell did a number on a lot of the trees.

In related news, the stink bug and ladybird beetle populations have exploded. I normally don't spray for them, but this year I've had to or they would've invaded the house. I'm looking forward to a hard freeze! It's normally in the 50s/60s, not the 70s and higher.

We've had a stink bug invasion going on here for about a month! They are coming in the house, too. Can't figure out how they are getting in. I think they have to fly in when we go in and out the doors. When Cary cleaned the flue for the woodstove and took the cap off the top, the vented cap was filled with dead stink bugs. Cary doesn't get grossed out over very much, but when he opened the patio umbrella to clean it, there were so many stink bugs on the underneath side that he got grossed out. I'm glad I didn't see that.

@anna43 praying for your grandson.

On a short break from training. It is going well. Don't have to be on camera so that's a nice plus.

Got inlaws yard mowed yesterday. Probably last time. Part of it was so tall we truly could have raked and baled a few bales.

DH hauling electronics and recycling today. Scrap tomorrow. That will clear up lots of space in barn. Still 80 deg outside but not bad working weather.

Grandson had surgery this a.m. They removed 8 clots from his heart and are not sure they got all of them. He is still in recovery and will be moved to the cardiac unit. He called me a short while ago and his voice was hard to hear so assume he is still under effects of whatever he had for the surgery.

I spent the entire morning on the phone and have Bible study in 40 minutes so am snarfing down a quick sandwich.

It's rainy and gloomy here in the 50's. We need the rain because we missed the last two rain forecast days. Both went north of us.

Judy you are so strong.
Prayers for you and DH.
Feeling kind of crappy myself and since last week I was in crowds at visitations and funerals started up ivermectin this morning.
Two crockpots going for meals for rest of the week.
One with King Ranch Casserole and one with 4# of chicken wings.
The wings are huge, the size of thighs.

Grandson's doctors found clots in his legs which is where they originated. Typical. Priest came this afternoon gave him communion, prayed with him and laid his hand on his shoulder. That seemed to lift gs's spirits. Don't know if it was his parish priest or hospital Chaplin but either way it was good. He is out of ICU and on cardiac ward now. It is a miracle he's still alive.

After Bible study there was a 95th birthday party for a friend and also a goodby party as she is moving out of state to live with family. I will miss her.

My dd called very upset about work. She works with public, and one customer (man) always stands way too close and touches her and it is driving her batty. Her supervisor has told him to back off more than once, but the guy keeps doing it. It says a lot about my dd's maturity that she hasn't decked him because she is quite capable of doing so. She's a tiny lady with a BIG temper. I told her I thought his touching her after she has repeatedly told him not to constitutes assault. Personally, I think she should give him a warning that if he touches her again, she will file charges of assault. Another customer who is married has been trying to get her to meet up with him. I think she should "accidently" forward the guy's message to his wife. She is so-o-o feed up with creeps but needs the job so grits her teeth and puts up with the crap.

I never had a problem with that maybe because my dd is beautiful and I'm not. When I worked for Met Life back in the dark ages, nothing was tolerated. Male agents were not allowed to enter our office, and we worked through windows at the counter. One jerk kept making inappropriate remarks and when we were working our way through a stack of applications, when we got to one of his, it went back to the bottom of the stack! It was funny because you'd hear someone say oh this is Mr. C's, bottom of the stack. My last employer for 25 years, had zero tolerance for anyone bothering me. A couple of clients were shown the door when they overstepped.

Praying for Judy and Anna's son.

The strawberries our son ordered will be coming in tomorrow. We are still working to get the ground ready to plant. He has hired some help for Friday and maybe Saturday. Hopefully we can get done ahead of the rain.

One fruit tree out of the 20 we planted did not survive. It was one of the hybrid cherries. Hopefully we can replace it this spring. I am going to plant some more seed that I have in the freezer from our old tree. It would be wonderful if I can get some up. My dad shared lots of cherry trees that came up from seed with family who wanted a tree.

We had our daughter's kids again on Monday. Grandson and I did a couple of puzzles. It was so much fun. I need to go to Walmart and look for a couple more that are about 100 to 250 pieces. Something we can do while he is here. I need to find our marbles. Yep, I lost my marbles. LOL! We can play Chinese Checkers when I find them. I think they are in the attic.

Yesterday we had our four runner serviced. I drove it in and Hubby drove the truck. Then we ran errands while the SUV was getting serviced. We got our empty fuel drum filled with farm diesel. We also got 2 more 5 gallon can and one 5 gallon can of gas. Ouch But that will last a long time. Did several other errands and had brunch. Then after we got the SUV, Hubby went home and I went to do a little shopping. I want to get Christmas done early, but am only making slow process. But it was nice to shop without having to hurry because Hubby was waiting in the truck.

I have several things to do today. Pay bills is on the top of the list. I guess I should get busy. Have a blessed day everyone.
