Thank you guys
Wildwood, I guess it's pretty common to have the PTSD, if you can say common.
I really needed to get this done at the farm. Very important. I still have ashes to spread in various places he enjoyed around the two counties and if I ever move.
We made a time capsule and will dig it up in 5 years.

There hasn't been any probate thank God.
It took about 6-7 weeks to get that done.
After a couple months of billing for nearly $300, BCBS finally sent me a refund of $1.20. In his name. Humorous.
My kids are great. Most of them made it out. Lots of hugs, some tears, then on to the next task.
They did some stuff for me. More later.

Had to fire up the coal stove this morning. Not looking forward to winter. Ug.

Prayers up. Our extended family has experienced serious employment issues this year but God has been gracious in answering employment prayers.

Grand was in prayer about a need. She called yesterday to say she was coming over with news. God answered her prayer in 2 days. Not sure which of us was more grateful and more excited.

Ebay storage area almost done. Was interrupted yesterday when DH spotted a snake in the barn. He and Grand are soo dramatic about snakes, lol. Turned out to be a young blacksnake. Left it alone since we no longer have chickens. Great grand and I returned to garage where we found her some treasures. An old jar full of shells and a small trash can full of shells and some neat rocks. I think both of them were part of an auction purchase years ago. Probably when DH bought everything in a basement for $5. She had to peek inside a tote containing some of my mom's things.

Will be going to bed before midnight tonight. Tomorrow is an 11 hour shift.

I just saw a post on FB that mentioned Souper Cubes. Having never heard of this very interesting thing, I went to YouTube for a quick education. I see a few souper cubes in my future. I love the way you can stack them in the small plastic bins. This motivates me to clean out my freezer and start all over. First I'll check Dollar Tree and WM for a cheap alternative work around sort of thing but I'm liking the dimensions.

I just checked on Amazon...they are a smidge pricey but one or two would be all you'd need. I have silicone I use to make my own molds...wondering if it would be worth it to make a mold...probably not. That stuff is pricey and would take a good bit of trouble shooting and mold making dies.

There is a person on YouTube that teaches how to use the souper cubes to save ingredients portions so that they can be used to make quick meals later. She freezes them in the cubes and then moves them to ziplocs.
That may be the one I saw. The girl I watched put them in the ziploc bags and then into a plastic tray upright and had them organized in rows, almost like a filing system lol. I like that idea since it seems I cook the same things over and over. I know you could do the same thing with other, cheaper make-do molds but I really liked the organization and neatness of the whole thing. I could do it with just one of the molds. I'm sure they freeze fast. Of course two would make it even easier.

Edited to add a couple short videos:

This really isn't about prepping but when has that ever stopped us...it's not newsworthy enough for main so I'm sharing it here.

I was looking at my sweet potato bed this afternoon in preparation of going over it one more time tomorrow while I have the grands. I looked down at just the right time and angle and saw a Monarch butterfly snuggled in between two blades of grass. I noticed a tag on it's wing and also realized it was not alive so picked it up and tracked it with the info on the tag and found out it was part of a butterfly release a hundred miles north of me in mid September. I filled in all the info and hope I hear from them.

I have no idea if a hundred miles is a huge distance for a Monarch. I bet it got here before I pulled the vines and all the blooms on those sweet potatoes. We had our first freeze shortly after. I've never had that many blooms on my vines before and hated to pull them.

Against the odds for this crappy garden season, we had a pretty good crop. It was so good that we weren't able to do a thorough search before it got dark that day so tomorrow we are going to give it another try.

I can't justify the Souper cube prices. Costco has a multi-piece set. And there are Amazon knock offs. My Mom got some of the knock offs and is happy with them.
I wish we had Costco here. I did see the knock offs and when I get serious, I'm going to look at them too.

Right now, we are funneling all extra funds into getting DH's shop rebuilt. It's taken him a few years but he's finally ready to get it done and I'm giving all the encouragement I can. We are paying as we go.

I swear I don't mean to monopolize the board tonight but this is too darn cute I can't help myself. I don't know if any of you girls follow Ruth Ann Zimmerman on YouTube...her channel is one of my favorites. They are ex Amish and they don't follow the strict dress codes anymore but they are still always modest. She did the cutest video all glammed up and in her every day dress giving some shade to the over zealous yuppy types.

It may not be as funny to those of you who don't follow her but for us that do, it is a hoot seeing her in an alternate personality. I'm thinking I'm not the only one who watches her videos. I must admit, she looks pretty darn good for a grandma in her alternate get up. The funniest one is her applying beef fat/tallow to her face with a spatula.

For some reason the new thread for this week is below this old one.

I don't regularly follow Ruth Ann Zimmerman but enjoy some of her posts. I am somewhat leery of her using non-approved canning methods. I personally do not want to risk my life, my time, my effort or the cost of canning using anything other than USDA approved methods. Raw milk is okay with me provided that milk is produced by me from tested cows.

Also, they were former Old Order Mennonites not Amish. Some similarities between the two but definite differences too.

I stand corrected.
