Yes, you need that gravel down before the rain comes in, with the freezing weather right behind it. Your drive could become almost impassible without it. (I had a gravel drive when I rented in Bath, Michigan, that's up near Mt. Pleasant).

TGIF! I'm so grateful to have made it through this week. I had a ton of online crap work for my main job, and now I'm supposed to sit in some software update seminars, but I'm playing hooky since I'm retiring in June and don't give a darn about AI prompts. So far, I've been able to program AI to do searches just fine.

Oh, and use Yandex.com for searches for legal items that should be in Google (or were there) and have now disappeared. Yes, that's a Russian outfit. No, I don't give a darn if the hackers know I'm searching for building materials.

My SOP right now: if I'm looking up anything that I wouldn't want a police officer or pastor to see, I do the search in another venue, not the Internet. And, no, I'm not searching for anything like that. I'm searching for older faucets and Trex deck screws, really radical items! LOL!

alright! Kitchen pantry area is clean. I still need to organize my canning and jars but that can wait for another day. Everything else is organized. I added a shelf to one section and wouldn't you know it that drill decided to get my finger, of course when i went to get a bandaid they're gone so adding that to my list. In the meantime a gauze pad and tape works well. Kitchen floor is mopped but I'll need to do it again before Thanksgiving, sigh, dogs in and out all day make a lot of work for me. Dh is home but instead of helping me get ready for next week he's in my way measuring the laundry room for the remodel he's planning in about three years.... Oh well.
I'm waiting on an amazon delivery, I think I found the perfect shelf for my cookbooks. It should be here this afternoon and i need to make a quick run to the grocery store as the coffee beans I like are on sale for like half off!

We will be having a nice and quiet Thanksgiving meal with Mom this year. She's not going to be able to go to her best friend's house that plans a huge meal. Best friend isn't doing it this year. She didn't want to spend the day by herself, so she invited us. I think her sister in Florence is coming, plus another friend.

Mom ask me to bring 2 pies, pumpkin and pecan. I have those made, and they will go in the freezer. I wanted to go ahead, and get those out of the way. Not much else to do, today. It's raining off and on, with possible severe weather this afternoon. We got a little rain, yesterday, and overnight. We needed it. Temp still in the 70's.

I have an appointment with my rheumatologist on Monday. It's just for a checkup. I think he is going to be pleased with the progress I've made and the weight I've lost. He is the doctor who recommended the anti-inflammatory diet, and he is a big supporter of the vitamins and supplements I take. He's the one who recommended those as well. I've had no major flareups, since I started the diet. Not only is he a Rheumatologist, but he has training in Homeopathic health care as well.

DD has Hidradenitis suppurativa, which is a skin auto immune. Since we've been eating anti inflammatory she has not had a flare unless she went off plan. She's also lost over 30 pounds this year alone! She's thrilled. I've lost 20 since last year and still need to take a few more off but its MUCH slower for me loosing than her.
SB I'd love to swap recipes meal ideas!

If I eat off plan, I can tell the difference, too. I feel sluggish and achy. I have really been amazed at what a difference food makes in one's overall health. To say that I was a skeptic is an understatement, until I went on this diet. I proved myself wrong. I've lost over 20 pounds, too, but that is still a slow process. I need to lose at least 10 more. With all the prednisone I've been having to take, the weight just about got out of hand. I feel strongly that the diet and supplements my doctor put me on is the reason I've not had to take any of that (prednisone) in a good while. No major flareups where it was warranted.

I cook regular meals for Cary, but I also add foods to the menu that are a part of my diet. Lots of veggies and fresh fruits. I have limited veggies that I can eat. Not a lot of red meat (mostly chicken and tuna). No sugar at all, and no bread. I do cheat on the bread when a fresh loaf comes out of the oven. I allow myself one slice per loaf.

We are beat. Tenants trashed the place but could have been worse. Grand helped us and we all put in a full 8 hours. DH had to fix water. Grand and I installed new parts under his direction. Then Grand and I started inside. Wanted the trash out asap. Shoved the dog eaten couch down the steps and onto a tarp so could drag it out of yard. Lit it then started filling the burn barrel. Grand kept a few things to ebay.

We pretty much kept 2 trash cans going at all times - a burn and a not burn. The first bags of trash I threw in barrel were bags of trash they left in floor. Had a bang up time with those bags...they contained fireworks. Fortunately burn barrel was off far end of yard. We had serious rain yesterday so woods were very wet. No chance of fire getting out.

Burned several pieces of broken down furniture. Grand removed all hardware to keep. Hauled an entire truck load of beer and soda cans and still had more left over. The front yard was a sea of alum cans. Found plenty of evidence that the New husband brought a serious drug problem to go with his alcohol issues. I have no idea why tenants think they need to leave drug paraphernalia and adult items behind. The empty food wrappers under the bed filled a big trash bag. Munchies from the drugs??

We got inside emptied of everything except 9 bags of somewhat clean trash (no old food, etc..) and a beautiful king size bed. The great grand wanted to mop all the tile as we headed out to tackle the yard. Left her happily mopping while we gloved up again and tackled more trash. Big expensive cooler was full of spoiled food. (Working fridge inside house.) So nasty. Bags of trash were slipped into fresh big bags. Will take us at least 2 trash runs to get rid of it all.

Before and after pictures show the crazy amount of work we accomplished but we are all paying for it. We are all aching but also enjoying the feeling of accomplishment. One more day will see everything cleaned up.

True! But I'm going to have 1 - 2 slices of pumpkin pie and a glass wine next week. I'm saving up the calories for that. I've been good. I've either not been eating dessert or eating part of my fruit allowance as dessert. I also haven't had any alcohol since Labor Day, and I do have a bottle of beer left, but I'm saving that for Christmas Eve.

It doesn't feel like the holidays without my vices. But I will keep getting in my steps. I'll be able to take some evening walks again, soon. Lots of Christmas lights are up. They'll be turned on at some point on Black Friday.

Got results from yesterday's blood work. Kidney related numbers not great. A1C was fantastic with a 5.4. Not bad for a diabetic. Lab order was incorrect as they failed to do the CBC and magnesium tests again just like three months ago. Once again I have to do a second blood draw.

Bought groceries today. Hopefully we have everything for Thanksgiving although we won't have the meal until the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Daughter's youngest son and his wife will be attending.

Looking forward to a peaceful Sabbath day.

Well I got my kitchen done yesterday and cooked supper with dgd. She liked "grass" chicken lol. Today is the laundry room. No matter what I do the young adults in this house seem to think its fine to just throw random stuff in there. Then it stays in there because they're too "busy" to take care of it. I'm throwing it away today. If they wanted it they'd take care of it.

I'm enjoying my coffee and breakfast first though lol. Pumpkin spice this morning.

I think I will go dig out a pair of shorts today as I just looked at the weather and they're saying 79 today for our high. This weather going from near 80 to the 40's needs to stop!

Sciatica is screaming this morning. Chiro can't see me till Monday. Trying all I can. See if I can tend dogs and stove. Then back to couch.
Kids coming to help today but can't get here till 1. Son on a 36 hr shift.

Guy coming today to get the plow, disc and the spreader. Grandson will be here too get the tractor going and help with that.
This has to heal up or I can't do this on my own anymore.
Hugs. I remember those days. As much as I hate to say this, you have to pause. If you don't the sciatica is only going to get worse and take longer.

Weleda has a massage oil with arnica that helps me a lot when mine flares. But the hardest thing for me to learn was that I had to stop. If a project just flat out couldn't wait, then I had to get help. But the longer I pushed, the more it hurt and the longer it took to recover.

I went to the dr. He told me to take Zyrtec and Clairtin. Take one in the morning and the other at night. He also gave me five days of steroid pills. He said it's mostly from the big swings we are having in the weather. When I went to the pharmacy, the worker offered to help me. I was looking for the over the counter meds, and I didn't hear her. But she got my attention and helped me get the right generic pills. I love our small town pharmacy.

Have a blessed day everyone

I still allow myself a few indulgences, too. I've cut back on my nightly glass of wine, but I still get it. Only smaller amounts. I eat one slice of bread from each loaf I make. I made Cary 2 chocolate chess pies, and out of the 2 whole pies, I only had half a slice. For a snack, if I get really hungry between meals, I have a tsp. of peanut butter. I'm strict with my diet, but I won't deprive myself a few indulgences from time to time.

This has to heal up or I can't do this on my own anymore.

If you have similar problems to mine, there will come a day where there's stuff that you can't do anymore. Some things that helped me:

- Do whatever it takes to get a consultation with a good physical therapist who has experience with football sports injuries. You may have to drive up to Ann Arbor. Why? These guys don't mess around with the prime-beef players. There's too much money at stake for methods that don't help, and if you can be helped, these are the folks who will know. If that's not possible, look up Bob and Brad, the most famous physical therapists on the Internet (running joke, but their youtubes have helped me)

- Also look into online "back school." Learn the proper ways to sweep, lift, sleep, and so on or watch some Bob and Brad vids.

RT: 12 minutes

- If building up your core muscles will help, start doing that when you are feeling better (that's where a good PT comes in -- some exercises will make your condition worse!) In my case, it has been helping. That's also good for fall recovery.

I was down for over 12 weeks one winter. Very little helped. It was a very frustrating time!
I haven't had anything that bad since then because I started building up my core and avoided some moves, like I no longer play tug-of-war or try to pull heavy loads. (I have to watch that during gardening season!)

Saying prayers for you!

SB, if I had people to cook for, I'd make your chess pie. It sounds really good!

Cary ate one whole pie, but shared the 2nd one with DS. It is hard to watch him eat everything he loves, but I have to watch, only. That's why I keep a lot of fresh fruits/berries on hand for myself.

I love homemade cheeseburgers with all the trimmings. Cary got 2 last night, and I made myself a garden salad. I wanted a cheeseburger so bad, but I knew I would pay for it. I could have made me one, but use lettuce leaves for the buns, but I had already had enough red meat this week.

eta. I don't really consider what I'm doing to be a diet. It's a whole new way of eating. I've been doing it long enough to know what foods will trigger achiness and not feeling well. Those foods I avoid completely. Other foods I can have in very small amounts, without it bothering me. Then, there are those foods that I can eat all I want.

That's what I hoped you would find. While nearly everyone has to tweak it a bit, it's a healthful way to eat that you can do the rest of your life. That's why I like the term "eating plan" instead of diet. There's nothing extreme or dangerous about it, unlike the grapefruit diet and some of those fads.

It's not hard to stick to, once you make up your mind that you're tired of hurting with inflammation and not feeling well all the time. I knew something had to change without me having to stay on Prednisone all the time. My rheumatologist recommended the Mediterranean Diet (which is anti-inflammatory), and that's where I started. I've tweaked it to what works best for me along the way. Having a good eating plan and physical exercise works for me. The bursitis in my hip and leg have all gone. With a good massage from Cary, and me doing a few exercises, it went away. I believe I had strained my hip the night the power went out, and Cary had to help me out of the electric recliner. That's when it started. I feel sure the bursitis was from an injury, not because I ate wrong.

SouthernBreeze, chocolate chess is one of my favorite pies. Chocolate pecan is probably my favorite. I'm envious of Cary. I haven't had a chocolate chess pie in probably five years. I'll have to talk my wife into fixing one after Thanksgiving is past.

Pumpkin is Cary's favorite, but he likes several. Chocolate chess is DS's favorite. That's why Cary shared the second one with him. He got half of it. My recipe makes 2 pies.

We have a really good physical therapy place close by and I will see if I can get some time there while I still have Medicaid. The only thing that's really helping is the ice.

I would have to go into Tupelo for the nearest physical therapy place. Not going to do that. It's too far. I use a "TENS" unit when my sciatica acts up. Ice packs, too, plus Voltaren cream. I didn't even think about using the "TENS" unit on the bursitis. Forgetful me.

I wish I could find my TENS unit. I know where the replacement electrode pads are but haven't yet found the TENS after moving. So many boxes and so little energy.

The Voltaren cream doesn't do anything for either me or my wife. Same with Naproxen. Different people have different body chemistry so what works on one person doesn't for some others. I had a girlfriend 40 years ago that swore by naproxen. She had a hip replacement in her mid-twenties.

Have you ever tried BioFreeze? Some people with Lupus or RA swear by it. I've tried it, but it doesn't work as well as Voltaren for me. When my lupus arthritis acts up in my fingers and wrists, I use Voltaren as a hand cream. I've not had a single flareup of that, since my new eating plan started working.

With age ...79 next month...I had put on weight...not terrible but enough to bother me...did a bit of research and found out that GLP-1...is really a hormone that we make a lot of when young..just other thing...as we age..we produce less.. and have more fat ...
So I went looking for natural ways to increase production... no interest here in big pharma chemical solutions..plus crazy expensive
And I found this bottle of drops...by Kamgear...GLP-1...a bottle cost around $10-$15....so a grabbed a bottle..it works...all normal natural things...you do 1 to 2 drops ...once or twice a day..and the fat is falling off...so grabbed a couple of extra bottles and to put back .l.started twice a day 2 drops...no side effects..
Has a crazy combination of things like green tea, coffee extract.and on and on....not taking as much now..seems to be retraining my body..to do right
It has me eating like when I was 20 or 30...not hungry all the time...glad I saved all my old jeans..lol..I stopped worrying about the scale...I am eating what ever I want..when I want....like when I was kid...desert no problem...DH is really noticing the difference..I stop eating when I get full
I dont, want to lose too fast as slowly gives skin time to tighten ..so stopped taking as much..
I started several months back near the end of the summer and just near the bottom of the first bottle
Got the stuff on Amazon....we do eat healthy..mostly meat and veggies..fruits and not too many carbs..
Had a little sciatica...but as the weight falls off...and muscles return...less all the time..little things that were bothersome are going away..may be a combination the drops and collagen...
I guess GLP-1...is like collagen..once the body stops making enough..yuk happens.l

Oh, okay, my go for the throat streak is showing today. At least online.

At home, I got my braiser. I love it.

My body is in rebellious stage so I'm tackling things in baby steps. One raised bed topped off again because the rain helped things to settle. New cloth across the top. And every time son demands another trip outside, I go cut a few more holes for onions. I should be able to plant them all tomorrow.

And if I'm really lucky, I can start the garlic bed. It needs filling as well. And if I'm super super lucky, there will be enough extra space in both that I won't need a separate raised bed for the saffron right now.

And someone stole my brand new lawn rake. Now friend understands why I'm so paranoid about the good lawn tools.

I've used BioFreeze for 20 years. I have both spray and roll on.

My chiropractor was a big fan of it and even had it available to purchase in his office. I miss my chiropractor since we moved. My wife and I were some of his first patients when he opened his first practice after graduation. My wife came up with the name for his daughter when he and his wife were trying to figure out a name. He has a great natural talent for what he does.

BioFreeze isn't an NSAID like Voltaren. My rheumatologist told me about it, so I tried it. Cary has a friend that has Lupus. He swears by BioFreeze. My sister also used it all the time for her RA. I've talked to other patients in the doctor's office who also use it.

It helps for some things, mainly muscle pain. It definitely is good for muscles that have been spasming. I wouldn't dare use it on any sort of wound.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I rested a lot yesterday, didn't do anything outside and very little inside. My grandson came early and did outside chores.
Then daughter and two boys came over and cleaned the house! Plus went down the list and did a bunch outside too.
It was rough this morning but didn't last as long.
Son is home from work. He did the stove and will do the outside animals.
After a few more Chiro appts, I'll see if I can start the PT.
Grandson was here when the guy got here to get the heavy farm equipment.
Grandson has already got the tractor running and pulled the big spreader out.
Boy that was some work getting that stuff loaded.
The guy came in just to tell us how impressed he was with grandson. At 17, he is quite the help. He's studying agriculture diesel mechanic at trade school. He will graduate in May with high school diploma and these job skills, and no school loan.
This guy said he could get him any job he wants in this field, for good money. Just to say the word.
Ok done bragging lol.
Other two grandsons are younger but they worked pretty good too.
