Good morning, All. I got up feeling much better this morning. The sun is still shining. We've had 2 whole days with no rain. No rain in our forecast, until Saturday. High of 91 degrees with high humidity, today. 101 for heat index.

Cary is tickled pink that he will be able to begin staining the house, today. He's about to get started. He will be able to finish one whole side that he started, before all the rain. We're passing on doing our first of the month grocery shopping, so he has all week to get this job finished. Doing it with a rolling brush and a regular paint brush takes time.

I don't plan on pushing anything, today, but I hope to feel well enough to start walking, again. Good back therapy. I want to cook a normal meal for tonight, too. I have a smoked, BBQ, boneless, quarter ham I want to bake.

It hit 91 degrees, yesterday. Heat index of 96. We finally gave in and turned on the a/c. We have a window unit that cools the whole house. We have very good circulation.

It's been a busy few days. Hubby hasn't felt the greatest, but he is still doing things in his shop off and on. He found that we need some work done on one of the trucks. It's too big of a job for him so we will hire it done. He talked to the guy out in the middle of nowhere that fixed this issue on the other truck a couple years ago. He can get to it in about a week. I did not need a big truck repair with all our medical expenses lately. But it is what it is.

I planted some more sweet potato slips. I have several more I could plant if I decide to. I think I will send a few to my sons father in law. I just hate to waste them. Our son and daughter in law can them, so i will plant a few more. Our daughter isn't planting much garden, so I am planting extra to share.

Our son in law is going all in on his business. He is staying busy every day doing lawn care or brush clearing. It looks like we will keep the kids on Mondays so he can work and his step mom will do Tuesday, Wednesday, and a little on Thursday. Our daughter is off the other 3 days. I hope he can make a go of it.

We got 2 1/2 inches of rain over the last 3 days. Our son did not build pens up here because of the rain. He just worked at his house.

I have caught 30 mice in my Tin Cat trap in the Turkey pen. I haven't checked it this morning yet. Last night when I put the chickens up there was a big black snake in the nest box. I got my rifle with rat shot and took care of it. It had several eggs in it. It would kill my young Buff Orpingtons and Guineas when I move them to the pen if I would have left it. I knew my egg count was down and I suspected a snake. I just had to catch it.

I have chicks trying to hatch in my old incubator. They don't seem to be making much progress. I hear chirping and have a couple eggs popped, but no baby out so far. I may have to just give up on this incubator.

Time to get busy. Have a blessed Sunday everyone.

Visit to nursing home was nice. Although the skies were dark and it was thundering there was a pleasant breeze. Took mom outside where we spent the entire visit and had a nice time. Mom's nails were nicely manicured. The nursing home smelled amazing and everything was so clean. Love that the director has a passion for caring for seniors and is putting so much effort into everything. There were several empty beds in the unit and that is always sobering.

Going to attempt to mow some today. They have put rain back into the forecast for today and 2 more days.

My creativity has returned full force which is a mixed blessing. It's been a long time. Grown grands are after me to finish a series of books I mapped out several years ago. I have no problem writing straight through the night when the words flow but life demands I have my wits together the next day. Will try to stop at midnight as often as I can but will just deal with it if I have to. When I am in creative mode, as DH calls it, I tend to do things like putting the cereal in the fridge and milk in the cabinet. I usually realize it right away but he knows my brain is truly somewhere else for a bit. I write in longhand first. Type later. I do have a rocket notebook somewhere that goes to Word. I doubt it has near the capacity I need, lol.

Make sure your humidity is high enough! If you're not sure (it needs to be 65%), toss a clean sponge in with the eggs...dip it in warm water first and squeeze it out so it's not dripping, but still very moist.

Most hatch failures are due to low humidity...

I always do the sponge in mine. I don't think my incubator ever has enough humidity on it's own. Especially towards the end of a hatch.

Lunchtime. I'm reheating the last of the pork chops and rice, plus I made a garden salad from my own lettuce, sugar peas, and radishes.

It's still humid, with spotty showers. I had a short bike ride while it was still dry and then walked on the swamp trail while it was sprinkling. I saw both the both the blue and green heron, plus I saw a hot air balloon in the distance, very cool!

Then I went on a Sunday drive, covering more ground than I usually do. I was looking for the potential new construction near a drainage area, but I didn't see any flags, paint, or other markings, so I hope it got stopped.
There's several areas near the northern end of the county that some of us watch. Putting a park there would be fine. Putting buildings and paved parking lots will mean flooding and could potentially end up washing out the main road. The developers around here are too cheap to build and maintain retaining ponds, and those come with their own problems.

I think a nap is in my future. :geek:

I don't think any of them do, at least for the final 3 days. Mine is a simple Styrofoam incubator, at least 20 years old. It has digital readout of temp and humidity, which is really helpful. So far, it has maintained perfectly steady temps consistently.

If im hatching duck or goose eggs, I also use a spray bottle to mist the eggs once a day. That mimics the conditions in waterfowl, where mama takes a swim at least once daily, and conesback with wet feathers...

I'm happy I got to get my walk in. I didn't go as far as I usually do, because I started coughing, again. I think I just got a bit too hot. I'm fine, now, after taking a dose of cough med. I also spent time in the kitchen making apple turnovers for dessert, tonight. They are all made and cooling. It's good to be back in my happy place for a change, my kitchen, doing what I love.

Cary got a quick lunch, and is now back at it. Almost got one whole side done, plus all the trim work. He is taking frequent breaks, because of the heat. I've got bottles of Gatorade in the fridge cooling for him to drink as needed.

I hope your hubby feels better soon. We still have that place in town where we can get our old vehicles fixed for a reasonable amount. The owner died and his son took it over...their business has gone crazy. DH fixes most of our stuff himself but sometimes he doesn't have the equipment, etc., he's just too busy or it's more than he wants to tackle. He recently decided to tackle a repair himself that required him to jack up the front of the vehicle and lay on his back under it to fix it. lt was the air conditioner and he did his research and watched all the YT videos for our year and model. He ordered his parts, had everything ready and it turned out our vehicle was put together a little different than the videos showed. It wasn't a hard repair but it was hard getting to everything...there may have been a little losing of the temper but he got it done. If he couldn't fix about anything, it would hit us in the pocketbook too.

That trap sounds promising...may need to invest in one or two. We've barely had a drop of rain here...not sure how that has happened but I'm about to have to water the whole garden. You go girl...taking care of that snake!

Prayers up that the SIL's business does well. It's great that y'all are able to take care of the grandkids for them. We've always done the same. I don't know how young couples here make it with no parental help and having to drive to the city to work. Between gas and paying sitters, there can't be much left considering most jobs in our area aren't very high paying.

Cary is completely finished with the north side of the house. He has the south side to do, and we'll be in the home stretch. He is saving the front for last. He can do it even if it rains, because we have the front porch that runs the length of it. There is some staining to do up on the roof, but that can also wait a while longer. He will probably need DS to come help him with that part. My laundry room runs the width of our back. It was an addition, before we bought the house. It has aluminum siding on it, so it doesn't need stain or paint.

I managed to eat a normal meal for supper, tonight. I was hungry for a change.

The rain forecast for today didn't arrive beyond a few sprinkles. I walked home from church in the sprinkles and didn't get damp let alone wet. Showers are forecast between 1 and 3 a.m. tonight. If we do not get them, the garden might be dry enough to hoe weeds/grass by midday tomorrow. Doubt my back will let me do much.

I mixed up a chocolate pudding mix for supper and when I turned around to do something else the whisk did a back flip out of the bowl onto the freshly scrubbed floor showering the cupboard fronts and the stove on the way down. I've decided it's the repeated small aggravations that get to me more than something bigger. Not that I want something bigger!!

My back has become very unpredictable going out at odd times usually when I'm not near the walker. I can work through the pain, but the leg on whichever side it hits goes weak. I haven't restarted by therapy exercises thinking it might make things worse, but I think it's reached the point I need to try regardless.

I have a cane in my car, plus I take a camping chair and set it up in case I fall at the garden or trailhead. I also have several resin chairs scattered around my property. They are sturdy enough to steady me.

When I'm having active back problems, I leave a cane in the living room and my bedroom, in addition to what I may have with me. Yeah, paranoid, but the canes are strong ones bought cheaply at estate sales. I should get walker, too. I had one but I gave it away to an older senior who needed one to leave in the bathroom.

The snake has been evicted! Hooray. Turned out to be a king snake. Just a tiny bit aggressive, like he was hoping to scare us from grabbing him. He was found near the hole by the water heater that DH suspected he might have come in by. But that hole was now fixed so he got an escort to the front door.

Closed the house up this am. 90s outside. I did do a quick clean of front gutters and a quick mow of front yard. After sun went down we opened windows cack up. Living room stayed cool with blinds and windows closed. Feels really good. Not sure if we are going to get the night rain that is in forecast.

I have a blog, and actually have a very tiny youtube channel. I've thought about it, but that's about as far as I've gotten. There are a LOT of herbalists and homesteaders out there who already have channels.

Everything has been done before, but it won't be done YOUR WAY until YOU do it!

Just keep that thought up front. A lot of these youtubers make enough to pay electric bills, sometimes more, depending. I thought it was just a fad, but it really will make some pocket money if you have a large enough following.

I agree with Meemur, Anna. When I'm outside I always have a phone in my apron...that might be something you want to consider around the house and outside. It almost sounds like a pinched nerve.
I should do that but keep forgetting. I do have a phone in the basement.

Stenosis is narrowing of the spinal column, so nerves are constricted. Nothing can be done other than physical therapy or the pain center. I DO NOT WANT TO GO TO THE PAIN CENTER!!!!!!! My late dh went to the pain center for many years and got a lot of relief with surgery, physical therapy, years of pain meds, spinal cord stimulator, shots, nerve burning and finally a morphine pump. I know rules have changed and pain meds are very restricted now, but I want to avoid them.

I have half a dozen canes from dh in the basement and two other walkers. His walker is too wide for me and won't go through the bathroom door. The one I'm using came from either an auction or a thrift shop for $15 or maybe was my m-i-l's. I'm not sure of the condition of the third one. I think if I get to the point I need a walker most of the time, I will ask my doctor for a RX for a new one fit to me. I tried a cane and they do not work for me. My late d-i-l had a newer walker with the seat which would be perfect for me, but I donated it to the nursing home when she passed. Hindsight ... sigh.

I went back to bed yesterday and crashed. Slept off and on all day. Dh scared the daylights out of me waking me to head back to work. But I do feel better and the congestion is gone and isn't in my chest and most importantly coffee tasted good this morning! Thank goodness! Today is some general cleanup....I haven't done much since Friday so there are dishes to be taken care of. I also need to change sheets.

I'm thinking I need to add some vit c to my morning routine to prevent getting whatever the grands have everytime. I always used to take it and never got sick but somewhere over the years I quit.

Another beautiful sunny day. High of 90 degrees. I expect the heat index to be much higher. We have a 50% chance of rain and severe storms moving in this afternoon that wasn't in our forecast, yesterday. Cary said he was going to stain, anyway. We might get rain, and we might not. He's already out there going for it. We're also keeping it in prayer that the rain misses us.

I'm beginning to feel myself, again. The infusion must have kicked in, plus, the new med. My cold has cleared up for the most part, but I don't want to get too hot and cause another coughing fit like, yesterday. I'll finish the antibiotics, anyway, just to be on the safe side.

Laundry and a bit of house cleaning for me. The house is a mess, but I'm only going to do what I can. My energy level is still lower than normal, and I don't want to push anything.

I have a cane and a lumbar back brace. I'm thinking of getting out the lumbar back brace to wear while I do my every day chores. I have one for my cervical and thoracic spine, too. LOL, not going to try to wear all three at the same time!

We just got a quick rain shower, but the stain Cary put on this morning had time to soak in, before the rain. We're under a severe thunderstorm watch, until 7pm. Another line of possibly severe storms later this afternoon. Oh well, guess we'll go do our grocery shopping tomorrow while the house dries out. Weather for the rest of the week is supposed to be nice.

Lunch break right now. Laundry all done, but hasn't been folded and put away, yet.

Lunch here, too. I wasn't going to wash anything today, but my kitty spit up some fur balls, so both throws (chair and couch) went into the wash and are out on the lines now. She gets a daily brushing, so I'm not sure how those built up, but she's gotten a little pumpkin in her breakfast and I'm keeping an eye on the litter. Hey, she's 16 today. That's not bad. My last kitty was developing renal problems at this point and rapidly losing weight, so I'm blessed.

That is true but you would have the whole active population of this forum as potential viewers. On the other hand, you are extremely busy and it might be a bit too much. I was just thinking you could record yourself in some of the events you do...says the woman who is often encouraged to do the same but resists lol.

All I can say is it's a good thing that garden is mostly done because it is hotter than heck out there...maybe made worse from the moisture left over from all the rain we had in the last month. It was a tad warm yesterday but not like today. I've got the irrigation going. If the forecast is right, we should cool back down a little but for now, 94 never felt so hot. I'll be doing what needs done in the evenings. Other than that, it is one of those breathtakingly beautiful days. There's something almost magic about the first part of June when all the plants are that bright shade of green and things are starting to bloom.

I'll never forget this one day about ten years ago, first week in June. It was our first time setting up at one of the trendy vintage shows in our area...it was an outdoor event. When we pulled in the gate, there was the sweetest old farm house with flowers planted everywhere and one of those old vintage farm trucks sitting in the yard for photo opportunities. It had just rained but the sun was back out full force and the colors were breathtaking. There were raindrops sparkling on surfaces here and there and I felt like Dorothy when she woke up in Oz. It was the beginning of a wonderful time in our lives...I must have had a premonition that day. Fast forward around seven years and daddy took a turn for the worse and I couldn't and wouldn't leave him...DH felt the same. When he passed, we were planning on picking up where we left off but the barn burned that winter and y'all know the rest of the story. DH completely lost his heart for creating his beautiful furniture and went to work for someone else. He's finally getting it back and just put the finishing touches on that wood curing room he always dreamed of. He has a small saw mill and will be able to produce his own lumber and can also do some of the more expensive varieties. There's big thing I call a dehydrator lol. It makes the wood cure extra fast and very evenly. The specs for building that room has to be exact and there are layers upon layers of stuff in the walls and ceiling that had to be exact. I told DH we could turn it into a huge refridgerator or freezer when he got too old to mill wood.

Well, we had a severe thunderstorm warning, and the storm came right over the top of us. High winds, flooding rain, and marble sized hail. Scary stuff! No damage, but our power was doing a lot of flickering. Severe thunderstorm watch still lasts a few more hours, but I think the worst is over.

I've actually thought about just wearing a camera (go-pro maybe) around showing my day, then do a voiceover. HOWEVER, that would include skills that I don't remotely have. Who knows? I'm open to anything God wants me to do - if that's it, He will make it happen. Thank you for the encouragement - it means more than you know.

Cancelled my class for this evening - we were under a severe storm warning, and no one had signed up yet. No loss. The cabbage I shredded for kraut went back in the fridge and I"ll make cabbage pockets/krautburgers/bierocks/runza this weekend. DH loves them for lunches.

Got to talk to my mama - she's working on an embroidered baby quilt for DD#1's baby due around Thanksgiving.

Today we dig potatoes. They are partly dug because the rain interrupted us yesterday. Actually it was the lightening as we would have worked through the rain! Our last rainy day today but it is similar to living in a rainforest. The humidity is overwhelming but must be perfect for the weeds! Congrats Meemur on retiring!

What looked like a beautiful sunny week has turned into nothing but. We had the hail storm, yesterday, and we have a 75% chance of rain, today. I told Cary this morning not to sweat getting the house done. It will turn off hot and dry in another month, surely, if our normal weather pattern holds. Same with having this old dead tree brought down. The ground has to be hard and dry for the truck and other equipment to cross our yard to get to the tree.

Taking a break to do shopping, today. Long list of groceries, since I'm filling holes in the pantry. Cary needs to pick up a few items, too. Fire ants are about to tote us off! He has to put out poison every day. As soon as he kills one mound, two more pop up somewhere else. He needs more poison, etc.

Not as hot, today. Upper 80's, but very humid.

LOL! The way it looks right now, it's going to take him all summer just to get our house done in between rain and storms. Then, we have a 150+ year old 90 ft. tall dead oak tree in our yard that needs cutting. If he had time, I'm sure he would love to come down and help you out. It's been a while, since we were that far South. We love visiting Natchez. How far are you from there?

Thanks for the invite, I appreciate it. Generous neighbors can't be beat.

But it's kind of like when you're laid up in the hospital for a couple of weeks in a leg and arm cast, in traction, head bandaged and one eye. And all your neighbors come by and visit, and say:

How sorry they are, that you're in that shape and get well soon, and as they leave, they say: If there is anything I can do, let me know.

And you reply back: My lawn needs mowing. And when you get out of the hospital you can't see your house for the grass and weeds.........

So, if there is anything I can do, just let me know.

Just poking at you bro. I'll probably go on disability when I'm done.
