Since our tiller is still “in the shop”, it’s not looking like our garden will get fully planted this year. We’ve tucked in plants in different places though, and did get the raised bed planted. And my dear friend, known here as philkar, offered to put in a row of purple hull peas for me. She is awesome!!

We’ve upped our water storage lately. Hubby has a bad feeling about water and keeps wanting to store more. That’s never a bad thing.

Going on a grocery run either today or tomorrow to buy more canned chicken. Today I’m at piano camp with the grand girls.
This is exactly why we didn't plant in the ground. We are using the planters we built. So much easier and no tilling.

My wife has MS. She was in poor shape when we lived in MN. When we moved to AZ I think it saved her life. She got much better and stayed that way.

DS is doing lots better than he was when he was first diagnosed. The treatments he gets now has stopped the progression. I might not be spelling it right, but Ocrevus is what he is being treated with every 6 months. That is another reason he had to stay in Texas. He was due for another treatment. It's going to be a challenge for us to find another MS specialist in our area.

I think it's important to be in an area that is working for you, whether that's because of a job or other factors.

It's the young relatives who are stuck in a minimalist apartment in a huge city, like NYC, that I worry about. If the stores shut down, they are going to have a hard time. I, on the other hand, have CSAs, neighbors who keep chickens and will use eggs for barter, and so on. I don't want the stores to close, but I would be in better shape than my cousin in a Miami apartment. If the a/c goes out, she will be dead in the water.

DH has been trying to get the hay done but the rain isn’t helping but still we needed the rain.

Yesterday was my first official day off from babysitting (I miss that sweet little face but I’m dealing with it just fine LOL). I got started on deep cleaning the kitchen yesterday and still have a way to go. I’m slow since I have to rest fairly often but it’s nice being able to get some things done without a little one underfoot. I’ve also been going in and straightening some in the pantry so it’s looking some better. My daughters are planning on painting my kitchen once I get around to picking out paint so that will be nice to get it done.

DH stopped off at Kroger to pick up some loss leaders this morning since he had to go to that town for something anyway. He managed to get the Prego pasta sauce, Diet Pepsi and a few other things I can’t remember now. We had decided not to get any of the chicken breasts that was on sale but I changed my mind and sent him a text to get a few packs because I wanted to can some. Hmmm, he came home and said when he ask the guy at the meat counter for them, he was told that he had just filled the spot up 10 min. before. Turns out he was suppose to get 9 cases of the chicken but only got 4 and as early as it was, those 4 cases were gone that fast. He asked DH if he wanted some chicken tenderloins if he marked them down so hubs bought 2 packs of those.

I cooked up 14 brats today, we each had one for supper and we’re planning on vac sealing the rest for fast easy meals over the summer when things get busier.

Also finally got some pants and a nightgown that’s been sitting in Memphis since the 20th of May. Grrr, I’m only 3 hrs from there. Same thing happened a few months back with some books I had ordered.

I mortally having to go to the dump because all the rif raf get there and park and block the dumpsters since they have nothing else to do. I finally figured out that if I can get there before 8:30 am, they're still asleep. Well I looked online, and found that there is a dump site only 7 miles from me that I had no idea was even there. So I hit that this morning. It is so small that 2 full size trucks can't pull in at the same time, so it's straight in and straight out. No place for the white trash to park and harass me. The dump I had been going to for years was so far away it took me over an hour to get there and back. I was gone less than 30 minutes and nobody bothered me this morning. :)
I found 3 pairs of shorts in the rag bag that were too "holey" to wear to work, but just fine for on the farm, and they should last me all summer.
Been cleaning out and organizing stuff.
Have to get my tomatoes transplanted into pots today if it doesn't storm.

Eating causes blood to the rush to the stomach to start digestion, so some people actually get tired and lowered BP after a meal.
I would say it's the salt and/or whatever is injected that's causing BP spikes.
Hey, I found that stocking sleeping bags vs blankets actually takes up less room. I have blankets but prefer the sleeping bags. I can usually find them cheap or free. They roll up and store good.
Rained all day. We drove to sons and got the pool ladder. That was pretty much it.
Little grandson wanted to plant radishes, egg plant, corn. He and I did and wow everything is coming up great, what a blessing!
My oldest son sent me message today they are getting married June 25. Tired of waiting for everything to re open. So! Wedding ! Is on!

Good Morning!

It's a dreary, gloomy day, today. It's 7:56 am, and it's 71* with humidity at 89%. Forecast high of 84* and cloudy.

Nothing to do outside, today, since it rained all day, yesterday. Too wet. Everything is lush and green, though. Tomatoes are beginning to bloom, and blackberries look to have a good crop this year. Muscadine vines are loaded, too. Blasted coons got most of the mulberries this year. No where near enough left to make jelly with. The mulberries seems to be the only thing they ever bother. Stripped it bare in one night, too. I don't think my fig tree is going to have fruit this year. No sign, yet, of putting on any.

Nothing much to do indoors, today, either. Household chores are all done. Did all that, yesterday, while we were getting downpours.

Guess I'll fry Cary and I some cheeseburgers tonight, making use of all the fresh tomatoes and lettuce I bought, before it goes bad. Can't seem to get any produce to last more than a week. Even the potatoes start wrinkling up and sprouting. I'll use some of those for French fries to go with the burgers.

BP is back to normal, but am still keeping a check for the rest of the week.

When we went to walmart the other day I bought a package of 4 grass fed beef hamburger patties. I just might fix hamburgers and fries tonight.

DH has been desperate for some help around here. None of the teenage boys at our church are interested. So I called a young friend/distant cousin last night to see if she knew anyone who might work for him. She has custody of her two half twin sisters that are 14 and she said they would work for him. The one that is coming today is full grown size and should be a big help to him. He's excited to have help and he is really good with children and teens. This is a girl that has had a very hard life until her grown half sister got custody of her and her sister last year. The mother is an evil woman and these two girls have a chance at a normal life with their grown half sister. They went to school last year for the whole year and had never done that before. Anyway I'm kind of excited too, it will be nice to have someone around. DH can teach her a lot, he did with his own daughter, who can do just about anything a man can do.

God is good all the time, I'm working on laundry today and tomorrow. Not supposed to rain today, looks like the day Sheree is going to have. Now to figure out what to feed the young lady something for lunch.

God is good all the time

We had our 12 year old great niece from Sunday through Wednesday. She is a good girl but is lacking in some training. She left food wrappers in the bedroom and didn't put the movies away she watched. It was small stuff but I had to hunt for movie boxes and disk in a couple of different places to get it sorted out. Her next stay we will politely tell her to please put them back in the case before getting out another. She wanted to make jelly while here. We made blackberry jelly and she took it all home except the jar that was only half full.

As I was mowing yesterday, I saw that the grapes are blooming again. The late freeze killed all the earlier blooms and grape leaves. But the leaves came back and so have the blooms. My elderberries are about to bloom also. I need to make more elderberry immune booster.

My son in law got poison ivy. He tried the plantain/jewel weed salve that I made on it. It cured it right up. I guess I will need to make more. I am also watching my mullin plant for blooms to make ear oil.

I got my cherry tree and the blueberries netted to keep the birds out. There aren't many this year, but I want what there are.

It's supposed to rain starting tomorrow all the way through the middle of next week. It's going to be a hot one, today. Right now, temp is 75 with 79% humidity and dewpoint at 68. It's only going to go up from there. 87 for the high.

I'm doing my laundry, today, so I can hang them out on the line. 2 loads. Cary will be mowing, and getting all the weed wacking done, today, as well. Busy day outside. He used his log splitter, yesterday, for the first time, since his surgery. He was very careful. He didn't do a lot, and there wasn't any really heavy lifting involved.

I talked to DS, yesterday. He sees his MS specialist, today, for the last time. Next weekend, he will be moving back, unless something comes up with his divorce that requires him to stay a while longer in Texas. I will breathe a sigh of relief, once he is back. He will be living with my mom, only 30 mins. away.

Dh's new helper is working out fine. She's worked with him for two days, they rebuilt part of a goat barn fence, she learned how to handle a gas post hole digger, a circular saw, she handled the goats like a champ and today they worked in the cabin, she put up insulation. We are thrilled and the dear girl likes having something to do. Needless to say, she is a good worker.

God is good all the time.

Everything is going good. Boys and their buddy in the pool. Got the weed eater stuff done, more spraying. Laundry, this and that. It gets done. Taking a break in cabin. Got one of those mesh screens that go over the door, put that up in cabin. Much better.

It's cold outside tonight, predicted low of 4-deg C and snow up on the tablelands of south east queensland. I lit the wood fire an hour ago and soon the whole upstairs will be warm. It's much nicer than using aircon but the cost is no great saving because I have the wood delivered by the trailer load, $120 a load for a 4x6 box trailer. That might sound a lot but it's actually cheap for rural Queensland. Here you can make $60 an hour mowing suburban lawns so 2 hours mowing compared to cutting transporting and splitting a trailer load of hardwood isn't a bad deal if you are still working. When I'm older and fully retired I doubt I'll do myself then either. All the hardwood around here is on private land so you have to be in someones "good books" and that's rare between farmers and townies.

Hot and humid in Iowa. Made it to 90 yesterday. Was out and a lot of the day, so I shoved my window a/c unit into the window and quickly taped cardboard over the gaps right before bed. Took all of 3 minutes.

Today, I'll take more time and fill those in. I just cool my bedroom until ragweed season. At that point, I start running my central a/c, but the window unit costs $25/mo vs. $135/mo or so to cool the whole house. If we get a string of 100 degree days, I will run the central a/c a bit to clear out the "heat bubble." I also move my sewing machine to the basement and work on projects down there during the day if it stays in the 90s for awhile. I would sleep down there during a power failure or tornado warning, but I like my bedroom on the first floor so much better!

The sun is out at the moment. It's 77*, humidity at 81%, with dew point at 71. Rain should be moving in shortly, but we got all of our outdoor chores done, yesterday, as planned. Our high, yesterday, turned out to be 90. I think, with all the rain moving in, our temps will be more mild, but with higher humidity levels. It makes every thing damp/sticky, just like it feels right now outside. We still haven't turned our A/C on. Front and back doors are open with our fan blowing through the house.

Since our log splitter is under roof, Cary is already out doing more wood splitting and stacking. He's still being very careful, and isn't going over his weight limit of 25lbs. That restriction will be lifted in October.

I've done a few more house chores this morning. Dusting, sweeping, and putting away 2 loads of laundry. Not much else for me to do, today, except for cooking supper tonight. Since we can't grill, because of the rain. It will be a quick one pot meal out of the pantry and a salad.

It was already so humid at 7:30 this morning that I was having a hard time breathing. I did get a few extra barn chores done and 3 of my tomatoes moved into planters before I had to stop. I have somehow managed to get poison ivy on both of my knees, so I'm back to wearing jeans until I get it cleared up.
I wound up with 13 tomato plants, after my first group of seedlings died in a late cold snap, I started extras the 2nd time around, and all of them lived. I know I don't have enough planters for them so I may give some to my neighbor.
I found a puppy that I like, but she's part St. Bernard, so will probably be too big for me, aside from not doing well in the heat. My old dog is rapidly failing and I don't think it's fair to get a pup until she's gone, but dh thinks she would like a pup to teach "the ropes" to. I think she'd probably try and kill it.
We're supposed to have thunderstorms this afternoon, so I don't know if I'll get anything else done outside today.

On the pup issue... each dog is an individual, and its impossible to generalize. If the old dog is truly failing... having trouble getting around, and uncomfortable from arthritis or other old age issues, she likely won't try to hurt the pup, but it may really be too late for there to be any positive benefit to getting one while she's still alive.

OTOH, I've always found that bringing a pup into a home with at least one well socialized and trained older dog saves hundreds of hours of training. You still have to train them, but they learn so much from the older pack member!

And, I've seen multiple situations where a new pup gave the older dog a new lease on life. You just never know.

I'd probably try to see if you could try out a pup for a day or two, to see whether your old girl can adapt.

DH didn't get his helper today, he actually can't afford her everyday. It rained all night, has stopped for now but supposed to start up again later. He's out sawing wood, Katie, the helper, will use the skill saw to cut those pieces into 2x4s. She has gone from knowing nothing about using a skill saw to being pretty good at it.

After DH begged for help at church Wednesday and they all said no, he does not want to go back to that church, again. So it looks like we will, again, go back to the other church. Our young helper goes there too. I have cousins at both churches, not that it actually means much. So the no help from the one church is now the old church and the one we will go back to is the new church. The old church is two miles from where we live and the new church is still 12 miles from the house. What ever, gotta keep DH happy and work keeps him happy. Katie, the helper, is afraid of heights so she won't be able to get on the roof to put the roof cap down. Things have a way of working out, even with what's their names sons of mine.

A lot of churches today have many useless members. I can remember logging in a lot of unpaid hours raking yards and shoveling walks for elderly members. Now that I am older and need help, nothing!

Oh, well. This is why I'm trying to set things up so a lot less maintenance is required. It's a lot easier for me to get out with a hose and a broom to clean stuff rather than wheeling out a lawn mower, for example.

My mom's church is the same way. She is almost 81 yr's old, and needs help from time to time. She hardly ever asks help from her church member friends, but when she does, they're all too busy. If it wasn't for Cary and myself helping her, things wouldn't get done. She does pay to have her yard work done, though.

A few years ago, Cary and I decided to get our property as low maintenance as possible. Now, the yard work is limited to mowing and a bit of weed eating. Garden is small and as low maintenance as possible in raised beds. I work my flowers and shrubs. We do use wood heat, and Cary does all the work assiciated with that, but we can both see a time coming where that will have to be hired out, or our firewood bought. At 68, Cary still is well able to handle it.

The new church does help people in the community. That is one way they do their mission work, the old church donates to the international missions, etc. I've been associated with the old church off and on my whole life, its always been the same. When he went to the old church Wednesday night there were still cartons of eggs he took the week before that no one wanted. I doubt we will have that problem at the new church.

The problem DH had at the new church was he did not make friends or join the mens group. Its not that he is not willing to help people because he would give someone the shirt off his back. I begged him to participate but he resisted. Maybe he will do differently this time, only God knows. Dh just has trouble with people that are different from him, he's an old fart and hard to change their ways. I'm putting it in God's hands and not worry about it.

We need to go to church because we need to be around people. We praise and communicate with God all the time, so we don't have to go to church to be close to God, we just need to not be hermits.

The best laid plans do not always work out. The last shelving unit I got just collapsed. The bottom shelf where the post goes in on one end cracked. Last year I bought two of these shelving units and they were made differently than the last three. The first two the posts were square and the last three the posts are round. cheaper made for sure. I'll leave them a not very good review.

Granted I did have a lot of weight on some of the shelves, but each shelf was rated to hold 350 pounds.

I'll stack the cases of cans on the bottom two shelves and not any higher. It was so hand to work from the eye level shelves, but that's life. I do have two heavy duty metal shelves in the pantry room, I'll stack the cans higher on those shelves.

Judy- I would definitely get in touch with who you purchased that unit from and demand a replacement. That could have hurt someone.

In the past week I’ve finally gotten bits and pieces of 2 Walmart and 1 Sam’s order in, SMH, I now need to double check my shipping emails to make sure everything is finally here and delete them. I can’t help but wonder what the FedEx guy thinks!

DH is trying to get the hay cut and baled in between rain as best he can. The weather forecast is for more rain on and off through next weekend.

On the garden front the deer went and ate all the leaves off the sweet potatoes in the raised bed. DH put some wire over that spot hoping they would grow back but also bought some more slips and planted in another bed, and again put wire over them. Well apparently there was enough room for the dang rabbits to get in and eat the leaves off again. Ugh! Now the deer have been in the main garden eating the corn. That electric fence has got to go up and soon.

And something has dug into the chicken yard and killed some chickens. I’ve got a rooster and 3 hens left and 1 of them is injured. I’ve been wanting a smaller pen and coop closer to the house but with lumber prices and everything else up crazy high, I don’t see it happening.

We use game cameras in chicken pen and in our garden. Last year we were losing cantelope and we could not figure it out. Game cameral told the whole story! A ground hog that would graze in the daytime after we had left the garden! trapped and relocated to across the river!

For the first time since the end of Feb I feel like we have been able to take a breath. All the big planting done and the weeds are under control! I have just started running the canner and dehydrator. Drying all those huge onions y'all helped me grow! And the first jellys and jams are made. Looks like blackberries and blueberries with be plentiful this year. Strawberries are almost done. So thankful for God's faithfulness to us all.

Did a grocery run, prices are definitely up. Did a significant amount of tree trimming and yard work. Trying to get the apartments I own refurbished and it's taking a good deal of work. Did quite a bit of painting today. Hope to have some of it finished tomorrow. Long day.
