Good Morning, All!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend out there - keep sharp and stay safe if you are out and about this Memorial Day weekend!

It's a 3 day work weekend for me, so I'll be heading out soon. Hubby has a list he's working on, but likely won't accomplish much outside as it is supposed to rain/storm here most of the day.

Sales last week were mostly cook-out related so not much that interested me; I'll see what next week's sale ads have to offer; in the meantime, the $$ will stay in my pocket as I heard a rumor of a group buy coming up for the prep group at work.

Darn, there goes the alarm - already! Take care all; have a blessed day!

Now the hard part begins: I need to figure out what herbs I want to stock, what tinctures to make, how to set up my business. I have several things in my corner: for Christmas, I was given 2 hours with a marketing expert that I have not taken advantage of yet. My accountant has agreed to see me to help me set up what I need to do tax-wise and I have forms I can use as templates to make my own. I also am teaching at the school I graduated from due to my nursing experience - and they pay REALLY well!!

This week, I plan on trying to get a lot of the above ducks in a row. It's raining here, so hopefully they will swim in a line for me!

I haven't done much prepping, lately, due to our oldest son getting married, yesterday. All my available money for prep items have gone towards the wedding. Now that is over, I plan to get back to it on a larger scale.

Beautiful day, today, and I used my solar dryer for my laundry for the first time this year, finally. (outdoor clothesline)….The rain has finally stopped!!!

As for gardening, we decided to let our raised beds lay fallow this year. Due to our health issues, we didn't think we could manage them this year, anyway. Hopefully, we can get all we want at our local Farmer's Market. If our health and situations improve, we can always go back to our raised beds next year.

The projected river Crest has been raised to 45.5 feet. Low areas are being evacuated. My friends, Ralston Family Farms, are fighting and praying to save their farm. They raise several varieties of rice and mill it right on the farm. My kids house is on high ground, but the roads between them and town may go under. This Crest will be well above the old 1943 record.

I messaged a friend who just had a new grandson a month ago. I suggested they get what the baby needs for the next week or two. She said there was plenty of stores. I reminded here there were also lots of babies and what is on the shelf is it when the trucks can't get through the water. It is scary how clueless most people are. She said they were going shopping after that lightbulb came on.

Managed to get my canning kitchen about 3/4 clean with the help of DH (it's so handy having a tall man!!). I also finished a large word document that will tell me the best herbs for me to stock (there are so many = and they're all so cool!!). Will start doing some percolation of tinctures on Thursday (or at least that's my plan). We also made a quick run to the retirement house to check for water damage - we've had quite a bit of rain here, too.

I have half a dozen jars of Salsa to can tonight. That leaves me only a half a case of jars. I will need to buy some more.

Got the last of the winter clothes washed and put away today. With our humidity, it usually takes things 2 days to dry, 1 day outside and 1 on the inside clothes rack in the ac. It was 90 degrees before 8am several days this week and everything baked dry in 6 -7 hours. Still working on cleaning out and re-organizing the pantry.

Am settled into my brother's house in Wasilla now. Just completed planting (two weeks ahead of schedule) all of the veg I want to grow plus a great herb garden, and about 21 hanging flower baskets. Next week I'll start a serious canning effort to get all (or most of) my jars filled over the summer, now that I've got a place to work. Looking forward to salmon season!

Our Save a Lot had frozen chicken leg quarters on sale for .35 a pound. I bought 20 pounds, and canned chicken pieces and broth yesterday. I haven’t seen chicken that cheap in years. A local store had hams for .99 a pound, and I bought 3.

Those are great prices! They are really nailing us on food here in CA. I added more medical supplies and herbal tinctures, a case of tissues, and toilet paper. Someone on the main mentioned lamp oil leaking so will be checking that for sure.
