It's still raining. We're praying the rain stops, Monday, like our forecast says. We need dry weather and heavy sun for at least 3-4 days in order to begin staining the house again. Then, at least, 48 hours for it to dry, before it rains, again. We'll see how it develops.

With a suppressed immune system right now from the treatment, I've developed a chest cold. RX antibiotics are on the way. Sinus drainage with a heavy dry cough, plus a bad earache in my left ear. I started taking OTC meds this morning.

I'll probably just spend most of the day in my recliner.

I honestly hope everyone is doing better and that you all find life easier. And sending prayers.

Real life has been difficult lately so I didn't really want to post about it. I'm still doing. We're still here. I look forward to reaching a stable period where I can come back to visit more often.

Please take care of yourselves.

Prayers for you, Kyrsyan, that things get better. Please don't feel that you can't share with us if you need to. I pray that you find life easier too.

Edited to add...we've missed your contributions but I understand a break has to happen sometimes. Take care of yourself and DS and return when you can.

Right there with you kyrsyan. Exactly.
I went up got a piece of sewer pipe to fix pipe in yard. Praying it works and I don't have to dig up 50+ feet of pipe. Lord.
Trying to get softener company to reroute softner. Where it's running now it killed our apple tree. Cannot have it draining around the massive maple.
Always something.

Hope that you are better soon, SB!

WanderLore, don't be hard on yourself -- your place has gone without routine maintenance for awhile due to larger concerns. It'll all get done in the fullness of time. If digging is necessary, look into renting a trencher if you can't find someone to do it at a reasonable cost. It's worth it not to do it yourself: that's a prime way to mess up your back for months.

I'm eating lunch, with the local news running in the background, and I'm going to scan the news online in a minute.
I'm keeping an eye on several local stories, including a partial water ban, not because of drought but because of high nitrates in our water. What's not being said: there aren't enough chemicals to process the water we normally use. And, yes, I have a stock of safe water put away in the basement, plus I have water in the rain barrels for the crops.

The garden wagon is finished. I gave it one of the new families at the community garden. They have very little money, so I hope they have a decent harvest.

The most recent is owning the house for 5 weeks to have the homeowner's policy say "replace the roof or get canceled". That's this week. Almost quit my job last week because boss has been on a 4 month tantrum due to tax season stress. Long story short, the CPA pointed out areas where she was failing as a bookkeeper and she got mad because the rest of us didn't tell her, or override her when she ignored us. So I'm just breathing. One step at a time. Finally got wild, crazy emotions back on a leash. And hoping that helps the inflammation in the body back off a hair so I can start getting normal things done.

Thyroid testing showed highly elevated reverse T3. Docs don't care. Working my way through that minefield. Son's CBD will be illegal in Nov due to the new regs. Working through several ways of dealing with that. Including trying to find a plant from FL that has CBD but not THC, and different chemicals than THC to provide the entourage effect.

On the adapting side... got all the formal paperwork to make personal business done. Have to do the web side. Looking for a CPA(s) or EA(s) to work with, both in taking on clients and in paying them for answering questions on things that I don't know or am not sure of when it comes to tax side stuff. That way the books are fully tax ready. Taking more classes because I don't know what I don't know and continuous learning is a good thing. Grandma always said that taking more classes will always teach you at least one new thing. Dad says the same.

Doing my work and keeping my boundaries at work. Keeping personal life personal and work life work.

Two roofers have come buy. One says the roof needs to be replaced now. The other says it's got years left on it. Both agree that insurance probably won't care what they say. Both are providing me with estimates for replacement. That emergency fund is about to get hit hard. I'm leaning toward metal but I need to verify with insurance that switching to metal will mean long term "don't need to replace" status. As in the rest of my lifetime. And two more roofers to come next week. Both of those are specific recommendations, not just random Yelp/BBB/Angie suggestions.

Those are the highlights. It's been a wild ride.

Our primary election is coming up next Tuesday. Two very important offices, Governor and Senate, and I've not gotten enough information to know for whom to vote. Frustrating.

I've not been back in the garden because I was expecting a visitor who did not show up this morning. It is overcast and in 70s all morning, so I really missed a perfect window. Currently 78º/feels like 82º/high forecast as 80º with virtually no breeze and 60% humidity.

Krysyan, I'm always amazed that the more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know ... on any subject and life in general!!! As for a metal roof, ask the insurance company what qualities it needs to meet their requirements. I have a metal roof, and it is the "proper" kind, however, I don't know what that is because my insurance agent dealt with the roofing provider to find the information. All insurance companies nationwide, are on the roofing crusade and are cancelling policies left and right and refusing to issue new policies. My agent said he dreads opening his mail because someone is likely getting notice about a roof. He also said he's having more and more trouble finding insurers willing to cover farms. You put on a roof guaranteed for 30 years but the insurer says 15 years and it needs replaced. Another symptom of how crazy the world is. I guess it's another case of insurance companies ruling our lives starting with medical insurance. My worry is my siding because it DOES need replaced but at my age, I'm just hoping it will outlast me!!

Oh girlfriend. My heart goes out to you!!
I'd love to put a metal roof on. This one is galvanized. My Amish buddy could do it fairly reasonable. But just no funds for that. Though he did come nail the ridge cap back on and will replace that this summer.

With all you have to do, I feel for you for sure.

Got my antibiotics picked up. I took my first dose at lunch. Still no temp, and I hope it stays that way. Only a minor cold, I hope. Antibiotics are to make sure it doesn't progress into something more. BTDT.

So far, I've done absolutely nothing. I pulled out a freezer meal for supper, tonight. I love having homemade meals ready to thaw, heat, and serve, but I've only got 2 more in the freezer. Appetite is still lacking. I had a toasted English muffin with butter and jelly for supper last night. Stomach started rolling, after eating it. Thankfully, I didn't throw up, but came close. That's what happens when I force myself to eat.

Kyrsyan, I've been missing you. I was hoping that you were just busy and not having health issues with you or your DS. Prayers are going up for you.

It sounds like a wild ride and it sounds like a lot...you are justified in feeling overwhelmed. It seems that it never rains that it does not pour. Welcome to home ownership and dealing with insurance companies...they've become a whole different animal in the last few years. I've noticed that they are a tiny bit more tolerant if they also have your vehicle insurance...we insure several old vehicles. They will make you jump through hoops nowdays...thank goodness you have an emergency fund. We have had a metal roof for over thirty five years that is still sound.

That work situation sounds difficult to say the least and I know you've been dealing with it for years. It's a good thing you've been working on a backup plan. I'll never understand why some people have to make others miserable...would hate to face their karma. Having to fight for the meds you and DS's need is difficult too....prayers that all of your needs or met with even better solutions.

Was working when DH came into office frantic. There was a black snake in living room. He can't do snakes. Got off the call and raced down to find some sort of black snake now curled under bookshelf. Though I had it trapped to deal with when I got off work. It escaped. Now there is a snake in the house and DH won't be sleeping well tonight. Grands came over and joined the great snake hunt. No joy. I don't know exactly what kind it is but I know it isn't aggressive. It is long. I don't mind handling them when I can see the whole snake. Just wasn't inclined to reach into the dark void under the shelf and start grabbing.

Praying I am the one who sees it first.

Praying for all of us. Sometimes it feels like life turns on the pitching machine and its loaded with infinite things to throw at you.

@kyrsyan. I am part of an fb group that is all about W2 remote jobs. I am just there to cheer the girls on, I have to keep my 1099 flexibility. If you wanna message me the job(s) you are looking for I will certainly keep an eye out. I have seen a lot of accounting and bookkeeping ones recently.

@SB. Praying you feel better soon

@WanderLore kudos for getting the job done. I sometimes wonder if there will come a time when I don't have to power through. Hugs and prayers

Oh, yeah. Snake in the house? I'll be sleeping in the car.

I applied for a new job today. Bunch of reasons - concerns about my current job stability (although I'm feeling better about that), maybe wanting a challenge, and need to get out of a toxic environment. We'll see. I don't feel like I'm smart enough to do it, but I can learn. I hit the submit button and am leaving it up to God.

Heard from 3 of my side gigs - all good with more work. And it's Friday!

@kyrsyan - I'm sure you have looked into it, but I think (think!) full spectrum CBD is legal in all states. It's just the THC that will get you in trouble. Can you do a major stock up before the 'no-no' date?

I'm sorry, SB! That doesn't sound good. Prayers are ongoing for you!

Patriotgal, I hope that the snake let itself out!

Good going, WanderLore! I hope that it works from here on out.

Moldy, toxic environments just suck the joy out of life. Best wishes on finding something better!

As for me, I'm grateful this evening: the garden is growing, I've got a decent pantry, and I'm getting more of my energy back. I'm still not 100% or even consistent day-to-day, but retiring from my ever-growing toxic work environment (official on June 1), has had a major impact on my quality of sleep (zero nightmares) and significantly decreased exposure to all the illnesses floating around the area -- the maintenance staff was cut and those that remained spent more time on their phones than actually disinfecting surfaces! And I'll stop here. There are better jobs out there for me to do in retirement, but I don't have to do anything right now, and that's a blessing.

I got the results of my x-rays, today. Spondylosis Deformans with lower lumbar facet arthropathy was the diagnosis. Hip x-rays were normal. I think that is a fancy way of saying I have degenerative arthritis in my lower spine.
Do you take glucosamine, or glucosamine plus chondroitin? I really can't recommend it enough! It gave hubby 15 years of mostly pain free life (while he was working as a dairy farmer plus working for the Highway Department) after he was told at 44, "you will need a hip replacement. Wait as long as you can, because you're too young - you will wear it out. No pain meds. No physical therapy. No nothing..Just, "your hip is a mess".

At the time, glucosamine and chondroitin weren't being used on humans (officially). It was being used, successfully, on multi-million dollar racehorse. I put hubby on it. Within a month, you could no longer fry eggs on the skin over the hip. (Metaphor: hat tip to our late, and sadly misses member Troke). I have an interesting ability to detect heat in parts of the body (very useful when doing vet related stuff with horses)...but I can actually tell where the heat and inflammation is coming from... depth, at least. From there, it's knowledge of the anatomy, and experience.) His hip went from "blazing hot" (most people can feel this in the skin from a bad sunburn), about 2 inches down, to "essentially normal", but with a tiny focal point of heat/inflammation at least 6-7" deep.

He essentially went from "really having trouble keeping up with the normal - admittedly physically demanding - activities to full, physical work, including milking cows, cutting and splitting wood, machinery repairs. Without pain.

For almost 14 years. Then he started having shooting pain down his leg and into his groin. We thought it was his back. He fractured 2 vertebrae badly at 27. As it turned out, he also broke that hip in the fall. But because he broke or dislocated every bone and joint in his *right* ankle and leg, and he had serious pain from 2 crushed vertebrae,...they completely missed the fractured left hip and pelvis!! Which meant that he was using that fractured hip to support his weight as he started using crutches 2 days after the surgery to put everything on the left side back together!

So, for the TLDR crowd (I don't blame you! LOL!)...it works on osteoarthritis, whether due to aging or old injuries. It may not last a lifetime, but it may keep you comfortable and active for a decade or two! It works by rebuilding cartilage...hubby's hip was almost bone-on-bone ...9 months after he started taking glucosamine and chondroitin, and x-ray his chiropractor ordered showed *normal spacing* and what looked like healthy cartilage filling the joint space.

Our daughter has been running cross-country since she was 13, and has since run many triathlons, Mud Runs, and marathons. Her idea of "stress relief" is a 12 mile run through the rural countryside.
I got her started on glucosamine and chondroitin early... she was taking it through running in college, and most of the time since.

It's hard to believe, but she has *never* had a serious injury that has required time off from running. She's 44, and has no knee or hip pain at all.

As of Nov, even the most cautious CBD oils that contain some THC will be illegal. Basically only the THC free versions will be legal. Son needs that tiny amount of THC in each bottle for the entourage effect. His body is very picky. We can't use high concentrate CBD oils because there's not enough to balance.

Right now I'm looking at two paths.

The first is trying to get a plant that grows in FL that has CBD without THC. That leaves open a good possibility that the plant has other innate chemicals that can replace the THC function.

The second is, since I custom mix his oil anyways, get one of the medical cannabis docs to prescribe him one bottle of THC a year. And add just enough to match what is in his current source. The rest will be set aside to use as part of his migraine emergency med stack.

Either way, if they don't extend the Nov date, I will likely do a large order about a month before to hold him over until we can implement another path.

@patriotgal, at this point, I'm just looking for clients. People who understand that not all "bookkeepers" are data entry. That there are those of us who can assist them in practical ways with both saving on taxes and understanding the reality of how their business flows. Unfortunately over the past few years there have been a lot of people, thanks to Quickbooks in so many ways, that think being a bookkeeper is just sorting transactions in a bank feed. And now QB is actively trying to take clients from bookkeepers and accountants that use their programs. And pushing AI that still glitches badly.

We worked in the garden all day today...getting close to being done on the regular stuff but there is the extra space we took in with the fence. It's got to be broke up and utilized but I'm not giving myself a time line...this old girl is tired and my house needs attention...bad. It is such a pleasure to have DH out there with me. He's not there constantly but his shop is next to my garden and he's just a holler away when I need some muscle.

I am aggravated. My brand new bag of Dr. Earth Bud & Bloom and a full bottle of Neem oil are missing from my garden shed. When I never found the Bud & Bloom, I just gave it a pass and still look for it when I have a minute but when the Neem oil was gone today and I really need it, I got a little suspicious. I just saw it last week. I hope I don't have a thief in the neighborhood and I'm not buying DH's theory about a neighbor's dog. The bag maybe but not a bottle of Neem oil.

From now on my small bags and bottles will be in the house. Nobody wants my unmarked tubs of garden ammendments or opened mostly used bags of whatever. Lesson learned...that bottle of Neem oil was around $34 with taxes and the Bud and Bloom around $16. Still hoping against hope that they turn up. I'm taking everything out of that shed tomorrow and rearranging...had planned on it anyway.

Once again, the Lord has been merciful through all this rain...I've been so worried about my garden. We didn't get a drop today and it was beautiful...got so much done, mostly flowers....the fun part lol. DH built a little rustic arch where the gate is last year and I had some old weathered decorative bird houses I stuck on top of it a few weeks back...not real bird houses but cute. Well a western bluebird didn't get the memo and has set up housekeeping in one and she and what must have been her mate were in and out of that bird house all day...probably up to no good lol. We weren't sure exactly what kind of bird they were but DS came by and knew immediately.

What a blessed day...we came in at almost dark and I put four of the Marie Callander pot pies DH convinced me to buy last night, in the oven...the grandkids are here. He's been trying to get me to buy some convenience meals so I don't have to cook every night. He can't boil water. I grated cabbage and carrots while they cooked and made slaw and iced tea. It was good. Will be doing that again.

Yes, that's expensive! I hope they both turn up.

Best thing I did was get rid of the so-called garden shed from the last owner. It was falling down, but more importantly, it was attracting teenagers. Once it was torn down, they never came into my yard, again. There's only a resin outdoor table, along with several resin chairs on the back deck, nothing worth stealing to resell.

I can't get rid of this one. It's like that little play house you always wanted as a child but never got.

DH built it for me a few years ago on an old concrete pad that was poured for one of those great big satellite dishes. We always joked about building something on it...well he did lol. We are thinking about turning it into a farm stand...then I'd see everyone who came up to it. It's not a practical garden shed. I could store everything in it inside his shop and probably should but it would be incovenient...still better than letting a thief walk up and get what they want.

Kyrsyan -- read the new law carefully to be sure possession of CBD/THC is not illegal when the law goes into effect. Ordering ahead is a good idea if it won't potentially get you in trouble.

The guy that does my mowing brought over the 10# bag of chicken hind quarters he was given instead of the Pollock in the mobile pantry box. I didn't want it but took it to help him out as he does so much for me. Anyway, I put them in a sink with cold water around 4:00 and at 9:30 I could pull them apart, so they are now in two crockpots along with celery, onions and carrots to cook overnight. I'll decide tomorrow what I'm going to do with them beyond the obvious of eating them this week. All I can say is it's a good thing that I (1) like chicken, (2) am not allergic to chicken, (3) it's not on any of my bad lists of foods to avoid, and (4) it is very versatile. Oh, and it was free. I am now totally out of carrots and frozen celery unless I can find another bag of it in the freezer ... pretty sure there is one somewhere.

I didn't get my errands done so they will have to wait until Monday. I did add my May budget and am pleased that I came in way under budget in most categories. I was going to buy milk but decided to use shelf-stable instead. I have several quarts that need to be used as they outdated in April. I've used some that was outdated a year and it were okay, but I don't like to do that ... six months is as far as I want to push it.

It has been raining very lightly for an hour or so and supposed to continue until 1 a.m. then start again at 4 a.m. and rain until 7 p.m. Saturday. We need the moisture and such a light gentle rain with no wind (so far) will soak in nicely. Of course, the grass in the garden will be even more deeply rooted before I will be able to hoe it out. In fact, I'll probably have to dig it out and there is a lot of it.

I'll sure put that on my shopping list! I took it a long time ago, but stopped for some reason or another.

My spine is in a mess. I have degenerative arthritis in my cervical spine, thoracic spine, and now, my lumbar spine, along with a lumbar surgery that didn't hold due to a fall shortly after the surgery. I do not want any steroid injections in my spine, or surgery, unless I have to. Walking more, better posture, and alleviating any stress on my back, being careful how I bend or twist, physical therapy is what was recommended for me, atm.

Spinal issues along with Lupus is about to get the best of me. I don't feel like a normal person anymore.

its thundering here this morning. I'm not sure what has me so congested but something does.I think its just the drastic weather changes, from Massachusetts and a record high to wet and rainy and cooler. I've been sneezing for days and my ears are now stopped up. I finally started taking something to help. I hate taking pills!

Yesterday I went and put Charissa's shower chair together. Took my drill since she didn't even have a screwdriver when I did the toilet rails for her. I used a butterknife....the screwdriver of rednecks and single women lol. I then stayed for her to get her first shower since getting home.

Today is try to get the kitchen clean before the grands get here. Oh and dh bought me some new storage buckets! Most of mine are getting old (old firehouse subs pickle buckets) and the lids are giving out. So he got me some new smaller buckets that I will be able to lift easily. Now I just have to tackle changing everything over......oh well good time to clean the laundry/pantry room I guess..again!

I have my brother that leaves this morning from here to drive to his 2nd home in Washington state for the summer. He keeps my stocked up in products that he buys there. I miss him so much the 6 months he is gone.
I just ordered something called Sprinkles you might check out.
Its more shelf stable than eatibles for longterm storage.
I also tried Willie Nelson's infused products, thankful I don't do drug test.
I am working -retired at will consultant .
I still use sparingly because it makes me want to eat the paint off the walls.

Me too with the milk. We ran out this past week and I didn't want to go to town just for milk so went through a few cartons of it. One carton was five months past the exp. date and the other only one so we next opened one that was well within it's exp. date. They all had the little solid bits in the bottom. To me, it's just not as good as it use to be and tends to congeal a little, looking slightly clabbered but without the taste or smell. I can't say it was clabbered and it didn't taste or smell bad but there were clumps of what I can only guess was some kind of starch added to it. For me, it's just not as good as it use to be. A few years ago, before Dollar Tree switched brands, I literally couldn't tell the difference In a blind taste test between it and fresh if it was chilled. I definitely can now.

The result is, we no longer keep ten cases of it. Two or three at the most. The reason I kept so much is that there were babies in my extended family and after they were weined, our neighbor across the road was expecting so I kept it for another six months before starting to bring down the amount I kept on hand. The upside...there's more room in my pantry.

Was working when DH came into office frantic. There was a black snake in living room.
Snakes in house totally not cool. But Black Snake is generally non-poisonous. I would say a Racer. Anyway:

Saw this on a TV show, think it was Chicago Fire. Makes sense, not sure it is totally true.

What do you do when you find it? Some don't mind handling one, which is OK, but not being a bona fide snake handler, you can still get bit.

The show used a Co2 Fire Extinguisher (class B and class C) to sort of freeze the snake, being a cold blooded reptile. It becomes inert and you can handle them long enough to get them out of the house.

Here is one you can pick up at walmart. Everyone needs to have one on hand.

I've made a little progress this morning, besides laying in the recliner. I had to get up and do something. Tired of laying around while nothing is getting done. I'm doing things in small squirts.

I buy the large bags of frozen broccoli florets, large bags of frozen cauliflower, 4 good sized sliced yellow and red bell peppers, and a large bag of frozen mushrooms. I pour all that out into a huge mixing bowl, mix it all up together, and separate into individual servings of stir fry veggies in 1 gallon freezer storage bags. I can mix left over meat of choice, or have a veggie stir fry. I did that this morning. I got 7, 1 gallon bags. This way, I can choose my own veggies. Most of the bags of frozen stir fry veggies at the grocery store have veggies in them that I don't care for.

No rain so far, today. Cary got the yard mowed, at least.

Pleasant morning. No sign of the black snake.

Off to visit mom. We have hit another bad spell. She is back to calling and demanding her car, demanding to go home and take care of herself. DH is coming to terms with the spells. They used to tear him up for days. I personally would tell her the car is in the shop and her home is being worked on or something. DH tries to tell the truth and ends up in a 30 minute "I am fine, I can drive, I can live alone" discussion. She usually just hangs up. Always happens when a certain CNA is on duty. She doesn't have the ability to talk mom down like the others do.

Rain has stopped, supposed to be done for 3 days. Not sure if it will get dry enough to mow before it starts again. Fingers crossed.

Raining off and on here. I got my steps in, laundry and dishes done, and ran the stick vac over the hall and kitchen. I'll call that a win, even though there's a lot more on my task list. It's not hot but the humidity is high. I should've started the dehumidifier going first thing, but I didn't. It's going now! That and fans will help.

After I've rested, I'm going to slide a/c unit into my bedroom window. Yes, I have a central a/c unit, but if I can hold off on running that until we start having those strings of 90-degree days, that'll greatly help the budget. The fans, dehumidifier, and window unit only use about 1/4 of the electricity that the central a/c does.

The 10# bag of chicken is now off the bones, diced and in the fridge. The greasy clean-up is also done plus I scrubbed the kitchen floor ... sort of!! I did the kitchen only, not the entry to dining, dining, entry to laundry or laundry. A patch job hitting the worse of it. One Swiffer pad is completely black. I will put a clean one on and redo the same area later maybe, depending on my back. I don't know what I'm going to do with the chicken yet. Easy is to freeze it in single serving size, hard is can it. I love having home canned chicken on my shelves, but I have so much already that some is getting old.

Only the outdated shelf-stable milk has gone lumpy on me. I don't think it is an additive, it's likely milk solids clumping. It looks bad but tastes okay, however, I usually use it to make a cooked pudding or gravy where the lumps are stirred out. The Dollar Tree where I shop is out of milk 8 out 10 times I stop. I could order cases, but I hate having a shelf full that outdates at the same time. I try to buy 4 to 6 at a time and try not to let it outdate beyond 6 months. The I've only had it go lumpy 12 months outdated.

I thought about a window a/c for the bedroom, but my windows are sliders so no way to install a window unit. My generator will not run central a/c which is why I thought about a window unit. When power is off during hot weather, I can run fans, dehumidifier or go to the basement. I'm thinking seriously about buying a new recliner to replace the very old borrowed one I have now. The man I borrowed it from has died so I've been sort of stuck with it! Anyway, it could go in the basement to use if/when the power is out.

Got a letter from supplemental insurance that premium is going up $42.11 as of July 1. They raise premiums twice a year which I really hate. It seems to me that a year's contract should stay at the same premium for a year, but guess .gov allows them to raise it every six months. It's difficult to budget when things keep changing and EVERYTHING is changing daily anymore.

My monthly food budget is $140 and in March I spent $59.93, April $127.39 and May $89.24. I was under budget in January, February and March too, but I had $150 in gift cards that I used during that time frame. I typically shop once a month although it will be nearly two months before my next trip due to waiting on new glasses. I was buying 3 or 4 boxes of cereal at Aldi each month but have switched to eggs or oatmeal most of the time. I am using cereal that I had in my pantry and will limit myself to one box a month going forward. Not a sacrifice because I'm not that fond of boxed cereal just was using the quick easy (lazy) option. Only beef I even look at is ground beef. Mostly I eat chicken from the 10# bags from the mobile pantry box. The bag of Pollock with provide me with quite a few meals plus I have canned salmon and tuna and home canned ground venison/beef, chicken, turkey and pork loin.

I keep seeing vlogs where a single woman is spending only $50 a week for food plus using staples from her pantry. Every time I think no big deal although some of their choices are interesting.

We had rain overnight and this morning, but it didn't amount to much. Any amount is better than none. The grass in my garden really appreciated it. :bhd:

I question several of the youtubes on budget meals. There's this one older guy who admonishes shoppers to buy the same twenty items each week. I don't remember his name or the list, because I moved on quickly. You can save money by shopping "in season," so the list is going to vary.

I plan meals by looking at the sales flyers for Fareway & Aldi. They are within a mile of each other (in both Ankeny & Grimes) so it's not expensive to visit both. I can get it down to $50 a week (sometimes a little less) in this economy (strictly for food), but the garden needs to be at full production, which it's not (yet). Meat is the most expensive, and I'm still working on filling up the freezer with a bulk buy that should last the rest of the summer. All in good time. People I trade with are focused on graduations and end of school events.

Another beautiful day here and I couldn't be more thankful. The planting and sewing is about done. I potted up my toothache and stevia plants today that I started weeks ago. The toothache plants went in an old iron wash pot I paid $5 for a few decades back...don't worry, I wouldn't do that to one in good shape. It had a huge crack held together with rusty wire and a bolt when I drug it home from the neighbor's yard sale. It's been a glorious planter ever since! The stevia went into an old galvanized wash pot. I have the egg gourd plants left to find a home for and that is about it. Also I need to relocate some volunteer zinnias to the row with the rest of them...some seeds didn't germinate. I also need to go through and replace a few seeds that did not germinate on the bean, squash and pea rows.

Also, I'm going to take the strawberries out of two large galvanized tubs, replace some of the soil, add fertilizer and put back in those tubs. There was a third, even bigger tub of strawberries that I relocated to my old claw foot tub. I planted moss rose back in that huge galvanized tub. All that will be left is to make it all look pretty and enjoy the view...love garden season.

p.s. It looks like I'll be turning on the irrigation system tomorrow. We have missed 95% of the rain we had headed our way. I wouldn't be disappointed if we got a shower instead.
