I just got back from my doctor visit. It was long and tiring. Glad to be home.

He changed my anti-inflammatory medication, took x-rays of my hip and lower back, and I had to have an IV infusion. The infusion took an hour. Hopefully, I'll feel better in a day or so. Rest for the next few days.

It took so long at the doctor's office that I didn't feel up to going to Sam's. We just ate and came home.

Short night equals LONG day. I've not accomplished much except take the bedding off and wash the mattress pad. I hung it on the line and with the sun and heat it was dry fast. Bed is remade with different sheets, and I'll wash the sheets tomorrow. I put plants out on the TV tray again and now back in the garage. If it doesn't rain tonight, I should be able to plant the peppers tomorrow and hopefully do some hoeing. I have a few seeds left to plant but that will depend on how my back is after planting the peppers.

Bible study was cancelled because three of our group had doctor's appointments out of town. I'm so tired that I probably would not have been able to concentrate anyway.

My menu plan says salmon patties, but I'm thinking eggs w/cheese and English muffins with fruit to follow. I had cereal for breakfast so this works. Then do dishes and a shower and hopefully a good sleep tonight. So far today my back hasn't seized up on me although the ache is never far away. Ache is tolerable, seizing pain is not!

We are putting in a wood stove or heater and needed a gas line rerouted. Gas company came today and got that done. Moved the genny. Should start construction next week and we continue to stock firewood. We started drying wood last Fall. And the best thing? We got rain! Nice gentle rain for 2 days on and off! We hoed and pulled weeds so a double blessing!

I grow several dozen plants most years. They usually take 5-7 days. They DO need warm soil. Because they are big seeds, i don't have any problem gently digging up a hole/hill or two if I'm not sure what is happening... usually, they're producing a rootlet and a small seedling, but it just hasn't breached the surface yet. But! Occasionally, I've found completely empty hills...completely missing seeds. That's usually rodents of some type...mice, moles or voles.

That's one reason I now pre-sprout my vine crops..pumpkins, squash, melons, etc. I sprout them in paper towels, and plant them once I see roots starting. It cuts down the time for rodents to find the seeds...there are usually visible seedlings in 3-4 days.

I have two rows planted and they are a little sluggish about germinating but once they started popping they are going good. I planted about a dozen North Georgia Candy Roasters and every single one of those large seeds germinated and quicker than some of the small ones. They were seeds I saved a couple years ago. I planted them on both sides of one of my hoop trellises and hoping for one of those Pinterest affects lol...we'll see. I'll just be happy with lots of squash. I did acorn, spaghetti and delicata plus a few I'd never heard of before...one called speckled pup lol.

That's also what hd5574 does and I am trying that method on the next thing that gives me trouble.

There are some flower seeds that are near impossible to germinate at home...that would make a good project for my next go round of seeds. It seems like this year has been the most difficult seed starting year ever...for me. That's the seeds I start indoors. Direct sewing has been great.

Thanks for everyone’s input. We have been in the 90’s temp wise. Melons have already started running to demonstrate how warm it has been but since I put the squash in it has been cooler and raining. Maybe we just need a sunny day. I have pockets tucked all over garden and I have dug up some trombocino and a lot of those seeds are missing. Plan on moving and replanting. Maybe rodents but the Cherokee tans planted in the same area all germinated. That’s what makes gardening fun right?!

My yellow summer squash have tons of flowers and one has a tiny squash..

I have started sprouting all the large seeds...peas, beans, cucumbers...butter beans...squash ..spinach....put a paper towel in small bowl..put the seeds in put water in..enough water to cover the seeds..we really soak them and fold the paper towel over..that gets wet..and I can see the water on top of top layer of ..paper towel...I keep them really wet..they swell..as long as they are swelling..I keep them super wet..I am not shy with the water in the beginning..like dry beans swelling when you cook them..after they swell...then I stop add so much water...and just keep them moist...when they start rooting..keep them moist...until a good root develops....then open a trench..to plant ...put them in gently...and cover with the right depth of dirt...then water the soil in gently..occasionally we have to add a little extra dirt on some....very quickly you see little green plants..then stand back...cause they are ready to grow..
We almost never have holes in the rows where seeds should have come up..
We don't plant the seeds that didn't swell properly and root...we know that all the seed that was planted was viable...it really cuts down on time and work..

This all started with some very old seed...I couldn't find any for sale anywhere..we had some very very old...truly didn't think it would sprout...but tried it as described above...it sprouted...and we grew it out.. and had enough to grow as a crop the following year.
We have never looked back... we start somethings in pots but..if we can sprout it we do it that way ..sometimes we sprout it and put in a starter pot.no one rule for everything..we just jump in and try things..
We are convinced that a lot of seeds might be fine but have trouble getting/staying wet enough in the garden dirt to come up..they don't all swell at the same rate.. this saves us a lot of water and work keeping the seeds wet..we have been in a rotten drought here this year..and has really saved water this this time around....takes a lot less water to keep that bowl wet...than a garden row..

If you try it this way...don't be afraid to get them really wet..they really love it..it took a while for us to figure that out..

We are finally getting rain...praying it continues..

It's a sunny morning, 65 degrees so far. The prediction is for later is 90 and then it will drop back into the 80s for the next few days. I'm keeping an eye on the tomatoes. Most are flowering but it will only be one day in the 90s, not a string of 95+. I would like to get a good first crop.

I'm heading out for my walk in a few minutes and then I'll continue working on the garden wagon -- I'm sanding and painting it today. I may also have a car to look at later.

Hit and miss rain and thunder showers, today. High of 86. Another day indoors.

I've got a load of laundry to do, and that's about it for me. I don't plan to do much the next few day, except rest. Hopefully, the IV infusion and new meds will kick in, so I'll start feeling better.

Ham, egg, cheese, on English muffin sandwiches with frozen hash brown patties, tonight. I don't know what I will have, yet. Probably, a small salad of some kind. My appetite isn't all that good, lately.

the BLT that I got after the test yeasterday didn't hold up well in the fridg over night, Lucky dog enjoyed it though.

I have a large world map on the wall above my desk, it had started to come down. DH to the rescue, he stapled it back up. I can't do much with my right arm, partly because of the surgery and partly because of previous shoulder issues. The surgery made the other issues worse. Sometimes I think DH gets tired of me thanking him, but it is what it is. With the world map back up I can now change the wall calendar.

Oh, I know, Judy. I thank Cary all the time for doing things for me, especially, on days like, today. I hardly have enough strength to walk across the room. He may have to cook his own sandwiches and hash browns, tonight. I'm still not hungry. He won't mind, and I'll thank him, too.

Still getting gentle rainy days. Windows open since rain is coming straight down. 2 more days of rain to go. Then we will try to catch up again on mowing.

Made a trip to town this afternoon for outdoor lights, doorknobs, and fluorescent tubes. Crazy amount of money on one of home depots special financing deals. Replacing door knobs starting with 4 exterior doors is not cheap. Same with motion lights for 2 stories. Current ones are over 25 years old. Will start the indoor painting soon, one room at a time.

I use the mullein salve on Hubby's back every night.

I have already sold all the turkeys I hatched on Sunday night. When I went into the pen to get the eggs today, there was a spotted king snake in the pen with a mouse tail hanging out his mouth. We pretty much ignored each other and went about our business.

We are getting some light rain. We need lot more. The garden is growing. I think I need to plant some more cucumbers. I need to can some spicy bread and butter pickles. My potatoes are starting to look like it won't be long till I have to dig them.

@Digger if you like spicy, try canning either straight jalapenos (sliced) in bread and butter brine, or add about half as much jalapenos to the cucumbers for bread and butters. Yum!

Even though Wednesdays are my usual day off, I had to go to a 2 hour meeting in the middle of the afternoon. It somewhat annoys me, but I can take off the two hours at other times, so - no harm, no foul, I guess. I have thought a lot about applying for another job that would get me away from some issues I am having, but when I really think about it, I like my job and this one would be even more 'office' and less 'patient/people'. I dont' know. I will probably apply and let God sort it out!

Got the sheets changed, 4 loads of laundry done, and yogurt drops started for the grandbaby around my meeting, so today was still half-way productive. Poor dog that was bit is doing better, but he is still moving slow and not really wanting to eat.

Thank God and DH's aunt, he can cook. And he has more patience with it than I do.

We had a good bit of rain earlier, and more is expected, the farmers are thrilled about the rain.

I finally got the peppers planted this morning. Also, hoed a good portion of the garden inside the fence plus hoed the potato patch east outside the fence. Weeded two flower beds but not perfectly. Got sheets washed, line dried, folded and put away and did a load of colored clothes put into the dryer also put away. I'm hoping to finish hoeing inside the fence in the morning. The large section of the garden west of the fence needs to be re-tilled because the grass is completely covering it or decide to give it up and mow. I'd planned to fill that area with zinnias before the grass took over. I have to accept that my age is cancelling my ability to do much of what I've always done. That ability seems to decrease faster each year!!

Tomorrow is the mobile food pantry, but their Facebook page has been down for a week so I have no idea what I will be receiving in my box. The man who does my mowing has been picking up my box for me for a while now which means I don't have to drive to the countryseat myself. I really appreciate him doing that for me although he says no problem because he is going anyway.

I can't drive right now because I can't wear my glasses ... I can see without them, but my sunglasses are the type that clip onto my glasses, and the sun is too bright for me to see without sunglasses. I feel comfortable driving in town but not comfortable enough to drive outside town. I hate that we no longer have a grocery store but am thankful for my well stocked pantry because I'd be in trouble without it. I need to do errands tomorrow or Friday so will be driving then.

It's been a week of figuring out what I'm doing lol. Still recovering from travel. It takes longer each time we do that trip it seems. Plus I've had the grands here twice already.
Dd had showing yesterday so I kept them. Sometimes she takes them with her but after yesterday I have a feeling that will change. She was showing a house in one of the nicer neighborhoods in Meck county, Charlotte address and there was an incident. She said when they went in it felt like someone was there and she kept calling out but no one answered. Saw some broken glass and as they went around a corner there was a backpack sitting by a back door. She and the client quickly exited and when she looked back she saw a black guy running out the back. She notified the listing agent and owners were calling police. She was carrying but its not one she's real comfortable with so she will be picking her own out pretty soon I suspect instead of just carrying what they have. She was so glad she didn't have the kids with her she said. Scared me enough that I'm ready to go scope out houses before she goes in them if they're empty!

I'm going to quilt guild today and I have a new project to work on. Oldest ds is pretty serious with a young lady who has a child and he asked me to make a quilt for the toddler. So I went yesterday in search of toy story fabric after the grands left. Its a simple pattern I'm doing I just have to keep the blocks turned the right way lol which may be challenging!

We still have a few days of rain left. Rain through the weekend, but starting, Monday, the rain is supposed to stop. I know all the farmers in the area were so glad to get rain, but too much is beginning to turn the corn and soybeans yellow. Whole fields under water. Soggy ground is causing a bit of concern for this old dead oak tree in the side yard. A strong gust of wind hitting it just right could bring it down. Right now, we need a good dry spell for a few weeks.

I don't feel much better this morning. It usually takes about 2 weeks or so for the infusion to take full effect. I was so weak, yesterday, that I went to bed at 8PM. Slept good all night, but could hardly get out of bed this morning. My whole body is in a mess right now. All I can do is rest. I started taking my new anti-inflammatory med, yesterday, so it hasn't had time to take effect, either.

Take it easy SB. We too have rain until Monday. Pretty sloshy around here. It's a steady rain that makes me want to curl up in my chair and sleep. Between work projects I am tackling part of a room every day. It seems like every time we go through stuff we leave a pile of miscellaneous behind. Even if I just get a corner done the room looks and feels so much better.

Broke out the new vacuum cleaner for family room. Out of belts for the old one. Will be picking some up. Family room is just not ready for the robot vacuum. I will be tackling that issue soon. New one works so good but still tears up my back.

BFF talked to a lady yesterday who had her medical transportation ride hacked last year. She got away but it was scary. I work in medical transportation sometimes and I make sure the rider has the name of the driver, type and color of car and license plate. I encourage them to have a family member or neighbor nearby as they wait outside from home and to be equally careful leaving the Dr's office. So glad I don't have to rely on rideshares.

Prayers are ongoing for everyone on this thread!

Stopping in for lunch and a quick check of the news -- weather, actually. What I'm observing isn't matching the forecast. I think there will be pop-up showers this afternoon, so I'm prepared for those.

It's a mowing day. I got to ride the big mower and helped with ditches near the church this morning, which someone else is supposed to do, but it hasn't been done and it will turn into a fire hazard if it isn't cut soon, so now it's cut. I'll start working on my yard after lunch. There's also mulch to haul out to the community garden, but that's probably a project for early tomorrow.

It seems like one area gets drown while others are bone dry. We are dry even with the showers last week due to the heat plus small amount of rain. Next chance for rain Saturday.

The mobile pantry box was not great but still worthwhile. 5# of potatoes, 3# of onions, 5 oranges (three rotten & 2 questionable), 5 pears (not sure until I try them), 2# bag of breaded frozen pollock nuggets, can of tomatoes, peanut butter, 2# bag of rice, dozen eggs, 14 oz. baking mix and 1# of puffed popcorn (looks weird but will try it). Also, the items I'm giving away frozen egg pucks, 64 oz. Welch's grape juice, grape jelly, 32 oz. black turtle beans, Taco Mac (soy product), soy vegetable oil and a stick of men's deo. The gentleman who picked up for me got another bag of frozen chicken hind quarters (instead of pollock) which he is bringing to me tomorrow. I don't really want or need them but will take them as a favor to him. If and when I get around to processing it, if I can them, I'll give him the jars. Notice no canned or frozen veggies or fruit. First time ever no tuna. When he picked up, he said he was offered two or three very expired items which he refused.

I did not get back into the garden today. I had trouble sleeping last night and have been dragging all day. I did get dishes washed and kitchen cleaned up. Leftovers for supper so minimal dishes to wash!! My back started hurting this morning when I was putting on support stocking and shoes, so I decided today was going to be an "easy" one for my back. I will try to get back to the garden tomorrow although I have several local errands to run.

Don't be hard on yourself, Anna! We're shifting into the warmer weather. I'm dragging, too. I may have to bite it and put the window a/c unit in. I've been getting by with fans so far. I'm trying to hold out a bit longer since it is going into the 60s at night. If it were in the 70s, there would be no question.

Yes, it's a little rough, but if I can get acclimatized, I'll have a much easier time doing things outside. Normally, we'd have more time time in the upper 70s.

At least the tomatoes are doing well. It's not too hot for them to set fruit.

Rained off and on here and then got a deluge of 2 inches in a few hours. So mostly inside work. Did get the rest of the peanuts planted. Winter squash have mostly germinated! Whoop whoop!! Made blackberry jelly and canned squash. My goal this year is to stay close to caught up with processing…until July hits and then who knows what happens!!

DH fixed kitchen lighting today. So nice to have full light in there again. We won't work on any of the others until we pick up a ladder with wider rungs. Been needing one for awhile.

It has rained all day and isn't supposed to stop until Monday. So glad we don't have to get out in it to take care of animals. Still leaving windows open since rain is coming straight down. Yard is becoming a small lake. More things put away today and more stuff in the trash. Got our winter gloves out of the car and put away my winter gear. Plenty of trips up and down stairs as I swapped out summer and winter. It's amazing how heavy flannels and tees on hangers are.

Swapped out my purse. It's leather and was given to me by one of the kids. I like it but I noticed under the nursing home lights how worn it was getting. I might clean and recolor it. Switched to a really lightweight one I got from Temu a couple years ago. It actually holds our life book as I call our planner, yet isn't heavy at all.

I have too many handbags but just can't get in the mood to thin them more. I hate changing purses. Always takes me a bit to get familiar with where I have put everything. Whatever i carry has to be tough enough to survive the farm truck but look decent for town too. Several of my handbags are sentimental- great grandma's clutch, the leather bag mom was carrying when she passed, a leather hobo bag DH bought me in Branson, a designer bag a friend gave me to carry when in KC (haven't carried it yet, lol. It just isn't me). I have small wallet bags that are handy. I would love to just run in the grocery store with cash or card in my pocket but key fob and phone are necessities.
