I checked our weather forecast this morning for the week. Sunny to partly cloudy skies with temps in the mid to upper 80's. No rain. It's going to be a beautiful week to work outdoors. We may fire up our grill for the first time of the season.

One day, I need to make my grocery run to Food Giant (small town). Don't know what day, yet.

Tuesday, I take Mom back to the big town for a doctor's appointment. Since I'm there, I want to shop for bird feeders with the gift card I got for Mother's Day.

I need to make an order for Sam's and Walmart sometime this week.

Cary needs to mow this week, and I'll be doing more work in the garden and flowers.

There's always laundry to do, and I'm making full use of the heat and sunshine to hang the laundry outdoors.

That's all I can think of that we've got planned for the week, except for everyday mundane stuff that always needs doing.

Have a safe and blessed week, Everyone!

We are expecting at least 3 inches or more of rain this week. We may split some more firewood today if hubby is up to it.

I have a dr appointment tomorrow. I only go every 6 months to a year. So hopefully I will be done for awhile.

Friday we ran to town for a few things. The shampoo had a lot of empty shelves at our Harps. That whole isle had holes in it, but shampoo was the biggest thing. Deodorant was low too.

My garden is starting to produce. I need to get the Bermuda grass sprayed today before the rain starts. I have a little here and there in the asparagus.

I forgot to say 'Good Morning, All!' Hope everyone is having a good week so far - little more'n 9 hours into it and I've got coffee in front of me, friends (yeah, you guys lol!) to chat with, and the two younger grandsons and the grand-dog coming out in a bit, so it's starting out pretty good :)

Thursday, I had loaded all my garden marking stuff in to the Mule and hauled it out to the front garden and had just started moving stuff around when I got an Obi-Wan call from work... I ended up working a 16 hour shift, didn't stop for anything on the way home, and was in my jammies and headed for bed when I remembered I had a chiro appointment at 11.... B12 to the rescue! I had to go downstairs to find a pair of my summer leggings to wear to the appointment; ended up doing a little picking and choosing in the 'seasonal' closet down there and tossed some stuff in the dryer to fluff it up while I got cleaned up and ready to go. I still had enough time before I had to leave to spend cleaning and re-fill the humming birdfeeders, and to give the garden plant jungle on the porch a good watering before I had to head to town - those tiny pots dry out fast!

Youngest grandson called while I was getting worked on - he wanted to come out to the farm; I managed to put him off until today by reminding him he had a cook out to go to in the early evening . Then I sat down in my recliner and didn't wake up until Hubby got home from his IDPA match - 4th out of 22 - and told me he was going out to mow. I decided I didn't have the proper attitude to lay out the garden (who me, being cranky?) since it was supposed to rain and I'd probably have to till again if it did, so settled for doing some work in the house instead - got most of the new stuff to take to the foster kid closet packed up to drop off later this week, washed dishes, did my work laundry, cleared the counter, blah blah blah...

And then it didn't end up raining  So now the forecast isn't calling for rain until late this afternoon and the sign is right for planting so as soon as this cup of coffee is empty I'm going to head out and get the garden marked off for planting; and hopefully get at least some of my plants put in to the ground. That ought to be enough to give my chiro something to work on when I go back tomorrow morning  Hubby let youngest grandson drive the Mule last week, so I'm pretty sure I can get him to haul stuff out to the garden for me Per the forecast, it looks like we've got a half inch of rain forecast for tonight, and an inch throughout the day tomorrow so that should work out fine for the garden. I'll end up getting my corn in late because I forgot to ask the cousins to go over the back garden while they had the disk out, but late corn is better than no corn - and maybe I won't have to deal with corn, tomatoes, and green beans all at the same time that way!

Well, the kids should be here soon; guess I'd better get the dishes done and the garden marking gear and plants loaded in to the buggy. You folks all take care; stay safe, and have a great week!

Had a new timing belt put in our truck a couple weeks ago. Have to bring it back Monday because its making noise and they think the noise is coming from the new timing belt.
I changed the oil in our old motorhome yesterday. It needed it. First time I have changed oil in any vehicle for many many years. I did remember how :)

We are supposed to get rain all week, but I doubt we will get all that is predicted. I go to town tomorrow to pick up commodities. I have a couple of errands I need to run while I'm in town and I have a few things on my Walmart list. Last year I stocked up on bottled water to the tune of maybe 20 cases, so I've been rotating them out, but I'm down to 5 cases and I feel the need to add about 4 cases to the stash. I also need to clean the filters to my Berkey, which I have not used in a good while. I do have new back up filters.

Today we have to move things around in the living room to accododate the new lift chair. I'm not looking forward to that. We skipped church this morning because we are tired from yesterday.

While we were away from the house yesterday we stopped at a Church's Chicken. It was slow because they only had two employees, I was very patient. The only side they had was fries, no coleslaw. The food was 6.15 each for three tenders, fries and a small drink. The pieces of chicken were fat and jucie.

My amazon prime cancelled yesterday, I won't renew it until I need something.

I watched a utube video on nonstick skillets. If there is a scratch on the surface of the pan then it leaks what the pan is made of. I have at least two that I need to toss, fortunately I bought two new ones a few months ago, the Carote brand, which I really like. I'd like to get a set of these pots, but for potential health problems from nonstick pans I'm holding off. I dug out my cast iron egg pan that is fairly well seasoned and the eggs barely stick, the problem is I can't get DH to not use it to cook other things. I washed immediately but the only issue is it is so heavy. My hands are very sensitive and much weaker than they use to be. The light weight cast iron pans are hard to find and very expensive, so that is not really an option.

Going to be rainy here, too. Starting the second week of my vacation. I'm still waiting to see whether I'll have some teenage help this week. That will make a difference on this week's plans.

Today, I'm walking through Lowe's and Menard's in a bit to look at the inventory and do some pricing. Among other projects, I have a gate that either needs to be fixed or totally rebuilt. I suspect I'll end up repairing it as best I can for now, which I wait for the price of wood to come down.

I have yet to start clearing for the new chicken coop and run, but instead took the time to clean the house. It has been a few months ( we have been very very busy ) since it was done. I got 3 rooms done yesterday and have 3 more today.

Monday we are going to take this season's profits and put them into paying off the last rental.

At that point none of the rentals will have any debts other than insurance or property taxes.

We can then move them from the S Corp to the next generation without too much trouble.

No rain in sight!!! I am setting up an IBC in my truck to haul water from the pond up the road for the garden. Also going to have a friend give me a price on digging a pond behind the garden. Something I have talked about for years but it has added urgency now. Got 3 chestnut trees to put in tomorrow. Wish I had done it 10 years ago. Once I get the woods thinned out back I will add a dozen more. Got a chainsaw mill!! Cant wait to play with it. Covered in poison ivy. Dug some rhubarb for a woman on Friday and lo and behold the poison ivy is around the rhubarb patch. One eye swollen shut with it. Sucks as I am not doing much outside to hide from the sun and heat. Other than that just plugging away at stuff. My daughter is doing all right with the garden. Not how I would have done it but stuff is getting planted and taken care of.

Goats love poison ivy, but the love everything else too, so that would not be a solution, LOL.

Yeah, I thought a couple of goats would take care of our mowing problem, but they would also eat all of my flowers and shrubs, too! Didn't know that about goats, until Cary told me. I've never been around goats, so I didn't know.

I canned up those five pounds of ground chuck last night and they turned out great. Went to get five more pounds today (it was on sale for $2.99/lb) and they were all out. Supposed to have some more in tomorrow, so I will check again.

My $50 in gift cards at Bass Pro got me 6 freeze dried food pouch meals for 2, and a candy bar (since I wanted to use the whole $50). Not a bad day.

What's the best way to store cereal? I just bought 12 boxes special k because it was a great price. I'm going to vacuum seal some in 1/2 gallon jars. Would mylar be better? I'd like it to keep for a year.

If anyone's looking Ace hardware has lots of the Pur jars.

Unless someone else has a reason not to, I would use the vacuum sealing in the jars method. I've never done it with cereal, but have with other things.

I've put some in jars and vacuumed sealed them and also in mylar with o2s and then put the mylar in a bucket with a tight lid. Everything I have in buckets are in mylar with 02s so I only need a tight lid not one where you have to use a tool to open the lid.

Well, I got most of the front garden planted yesterday - couldn't find my Blue Lake Pole bean seed, and needed just a couple of pepper plants and a couple 6 packs of marigolds to finish it out. I had to stop my gardening to take the boys home; figured since I needed to run to the Evil Empire to pick up a few things for daughter and Hubby, I could get the stuff I was lacking there. No marigolds, but got the peppers and bean seed. Remember that 1/2" of rain that was in the forecast for last night that I talked about in my post yesterday? Well, I was hoping to beat it home and get the last of the stuff in the ground before it got too wet, but it came in hard and heavy when I was about half way home. 2" worth of heavy before I went to bed, and another inch by the time I got up this morning. And another 1.5" forecast for today. Sigh. Ah well, maybe it'll dry up by Thursday or Friday, when I have a day off. I guess that will give me plenty of time to drag the bean trellis and posts out of the shed and have them in place for when Hubby gets off work on Friday - I can put in 4' posts, but the 6' ones are beyond my capabilities. I use re-wire (like is used in concrete work) for my bean trellises - they last forever, and are easy to measure for length since the squares are 6".

Speaking of Hubby, he was kind enough to to knock together four 4'x4' raised bed frames for the north side of the front garden yesterday, and to help me get them set in place. Now I just need four more to have them all the same height, which will mean stopping at Home Depot one morning on my way home from work to pick up 2 more 8' 2x8's. Maybe I can find my marigolds there as well. I need to remember to hit the Feed 'n Seed for bicolor sweet corn seed, too.

Well dang; guess I'd better quit nattering on and get ready to head to the Chiropractor again; at least I did the gardening before this appointment

Take care all; stay safe out there!

After we got up this morning, and started on our first pot of coffee, Cary decided he wanted to bring out all his man toys and accessories to play with. He's got them laying everywhere. He changed out the toy he uses everyday with another one. He's doing a bit of reorganizing of his toy chest, too. ;)

We don't have anything planned for today. We had a wonderful time with everyone at our home fellowship/Bible study, yesterday. Taking it easy, today, before being on the run, tomorrow.

Since I always plan my meal for our supper each day, first thing every morning, I'm using only out of my pantry for our meal tonight. Tuna noodle salad with oven fries. I need to use up the rest of the potatoes, since they are beginning to sprout.

About how long will the flour stay good stored like that? What have you found to be true?

I'm hoping it will last for a long time. I've only recently started using the jars to store the meal and flour. I was storing them in my freezers, but as I use them out of my freezer, I replace them, putting them in the jars instead. What I have stored in jars have been there only a few months. Doing it this way frees up more room in my freezers.

Sheep are excellent grazers, but goats are natural browsers...trees, shrubs, etc are their preferred feed. I don't like goats!

Maybe, I can talk Cary into getting me a couple of pet sheep! I've always loved sheep, but I don't know anyone around here that raises them. Wonder if they are hard to take care of?

We used to get a couple lambs in the spring and raise them over the summer to be butchered late fall. we have an area that needs to be eaten down..... Maybe I should suggest that to DH.

Got tomatoes planted over the weekend after work, DH got peppers planted yesterday along with broccoli and cabbage. We're trying to finish up the garden today - so far, zucchini has gotten planted. I teach tomorrow, then hopefully will get cleaning and regular stuff (laundry, draining the hot tub for the summer, working on herb stuff) done Wednesday before I go back to work thurs and friday.

I've got another large flower pot that I want to use as another "bell pepper" pot. Cary told me that he has seen our barn cats using it for their litter box. Do I need to change out all the dirt in it, before I use it, or will the cat poo make good fertilizer? I'm thinking I need to change it. What say you?

Looks like Thursday will be our shopping day. There are several places I want to shop in the big town, so we're just going to get up early, and make a day of it. It's been a long time, since we've done that. We use to call it our "date day", but we don't do it very often anymore. It just gives us out. I'm looking forward to it this time, though.

FedEx delivered a bunch of stuff today. In there was several pounds of dried blueberries. I vacuum sealed them in pint jars (10) which is a good size for us to use. I eat them occasionally for snacks and use them in baking. My wife often adds them to her oatmeal in the morning.
The other four boxes delivered today had other prep items. Yes, even more toilet paper which I had to find room for :)

Well faint and fall in it. The shelving unit that walmart said would never get to me arrived today. And the last one I ordered finally got out of california and as of this afternoon is in NM. Its supposed to be delivered this Thursday.

I thought this was commodity pick up day, but when I got there they said it is next Monday. so I went to dollar tree, the had the sinus/allergy meds that we both take. I got 20 boxes and there were three or four times that many left. I picked up another couple of those tall candles in glass to add to my stash. Then on to walmart, I only got a few things, one of which was bacon ends and pieces that expired on May 14. I don't think I've every gotten anything from walmart that was expired. I also loaded up my cart with box bottoms to help stacking my canned food. By the time I checked out it was raining cats and dogs. the lady at the door let me rest in a wheel chair until the rain let up some. I can walk a lot but just standing still gets to me too quickly.

When DH and I were moving the living room around yesterday to accomodate the new to us recliner I turned on a floor lamp that belonged to my grandmother, which could be close to 100 years old. The light popped, not the bulb but the part the bulb is screwed in to. DH repaired if for me this evening, its a great old lamp, kind of a 1920's vintage, kind of art deco. My grandparents were wealthy back in the day and bought lovely things. Sometimes I look around at things and wonder what will happen to them when I'm gone, my children care for nothing that I have.

so that was my day, I've got a wagon load of stuff to try to get done tomorrow, plus put that shelf unit together.

I went back to Winn Dixie and got some more of the ground chuck, which was in stock today. Turns out they also had stew meat on sale at a decent price, so picked up a 3 lb package. Came home and canned 5 pints of the chuck and when it was finished, canned another pint of chuck and 3 pints of chunked beef. Those are in the canner now, cooling down. That makes 14 pints of meat in the last couple of days, the most I have done in a long time. We have about 6 or 7 cases of chicken canned (home canned) and a lot of purchased canned chicken and beef. Plus two freezers. I just am nervous.

We went to Ace Hardware yesterday. A month earlier there was a sign taped to the canning section shelves that said canning lids and lids with rings would be in on May 8th. Yesterday there was an updated sign dated May 6th. Wide and regular mouth lids and regular mouth lids with rings will arrive June 8th. Wide mouth lids and rings will not arrive till August 30th. Lids periodically appear in Walmart and I bought some at Dollar General too. But it looks to be an ongoing problem for this canning year. I have enough for the year thank goodness. I will be using my reusable lids on most stuff and only use metal on the ones I give away.

I have a one time contract to pick up another fishing area. That will add a little to my income. I don't really like one time pick ups. They are usually a lot of work. If I do them monthly, it is much easier and stays cleaner.

Judy, I'm a sucker for pretty candles. I use them for decorations all over my house, but I've got a huge stash of regular candles put away in storage, too. If anyone is ever in doubt about what to give me as a gift, they know I love candles. I just sat here, and counted 32 candles in my family/dining/kitchen area alone. My last trip to Hobby Lobby, I bought 3 tabletop candle stands with 3 pillar candles for each. They were on sale, and I couldn't help myself. :D

Moving things around in the pantry room to make room for the third shelving unit. Its a true challenge, I have a glider rocker and foot stool in there, in addition to a recombent bicycle and a rowing machine. Pluse a four foot table that is piled high. Either I have to move all of the above or possible put it along side the first one I put up. That would be okay, but I need to be able to get to at least one side of the shelves, But I had hoped to easily be able to get to both sides. Having two units next to each other long ways would still allow me to freely get to the outside of each shelf and just reach in.

As for all the the stuff listed above, I have absolutely no where else to put them and no I will not sell them. On the one hand I want to keep the table in there but it may have to go.

There is an off side chance that DH may let me put the exercise equipment in the back bed room of his cabin, I'm sure the glider rocker will be going in the living room, along with the sofa in the living room.

I do ramble on about my delima of the pantry room and shelving units in case someone has a suggestion that might work for me. I really have no one else to talk about all this except my peeps on here and sometimes DH.

God is good all the time.
