Good Morning, All!

It has been a busy morning here - the grandsons are here per usual since I am off work this weekend :spns: Water balloons are already flying through the air - and I don't mind since it's gonna be another scorcher today! Hit 'n miss showers are possible, and maybe a thunderstorm this afternoon. I was going to loan the boys to my co-worker Buddy to pick up sticks in his yard (he had a dying tree taken down), but he got enough rain a half hour ago that he doesn't want to back his truck into his backyard - he's 20 miles east of us, and we didn't see a thing other than a few dark clouds passing by to the south.

I mentioned going to Dollar General to Daughter when she dropped the boys off yesterday; she grabbed the ad, circled some items, and handed me some cash  I had an extra $5 off $25 coupon, so spent about a half hour with older grandson doing the math - boy they do math different these days! - including multiplication, subtraction, and a little addition; and then had to smack my head at the end when he said 'Grandma, how come we did all that subtraction instead of just adding the stuff up that Mommy wanted to see if it equaled $25 so we could use the coupon?" He showed the lady at the cash register his list - with the math - and she told him he did a great job, and that it was important to save money whenever you could. Oh - and he was looking a two different birthday cards for his brother, and picked out the cheaper one so that he still had enough money to get each of them a candy treat  That almost made it up to younger grandson for not being the one to go with me to the store - he thinks that's his perogative!

Hubby just finished tilling up my makeshift garden again - with all the rain we've had recently, it had started growing up in weeds. I'll be going out to rake it one more time, then will have him help me get the paths lined out again before I start planting. I'll also be setting up the sprinkler, and putting down mulch.

This afternoon, the boys and I will run into town; they will hang out with co-worker Buddy while I go to Aldi for general food items, and Rural King for more cane sugar since the sale is still going on. Then I will run them to their house before coming home to wrap my head around going back to work tomorrow..... only 2 days, then I get 3 off! I will have the boys again from Tuesday evening until the morning of the 4th while daughter takes her s/o for his cancer treatment, so they will be running errands with me - I have a dentist appointment on Wednesday, and there is a giant used book store in that same town; I'm going to look for a better 'weed' ID book than the one I have, and will let them choose some classic childrens' books as well. There is also a Staples in that town, so I will check their ad for Back To School items as well.

Well, reckon I'd better get out there and get to work - you folks all take care; stay safe out there!!

I spent the morning cleaning off a large shelving unit and tossing the really old food. This was the last big one to get to. Now I plan to go through the bathroom closet and get rid of all the little stuff that just seems to pile up, so I can actually see what is in there and make room for more soap and toothpaste.

Some actual decent sales this week, so I went shopping. Added bbq sauce, ketchup, gatorade, baked beans, bottled water, deodorant, kitty litter, eggs (to freeze), pringles, bar soap, seeds and a few other little things, most at BOGO prices or better, and many with coupons. Prices are certainly rising. My vitamins have gone up $2 a bottle and I noticed Gold Medal flour, the 5 lb bag, at about $3.50 a bag. Canned soups are always ridiculous and the prices on things like pancake mix-a 2lb box of brand name was $3.59 a box. I swear it is normally $1.99. Hoping for a lot more BOGO sales.

Tomorrow, I'm going to be taking advantage of the sale Sam's Club still has going. It ends July 14th, so I've only got this last trip scheduled, before the sale ends. Will be adding to my stash of TP and paper plates, along with some other food items I use on a regular basis.

After this last trip to Sam's for their sale, the next stock run (in two weeks) will be to buy more items for my medicine cabinet. I haven't replaced some things in a few years, so I want a fresh supply and to add a few more items that I've been meaning to get. I've got to get my inventory and buy list started.

Prudentwatcher, I know what you mean about prices going up! I work with a budget, and I told DH the other day, that he was going to have to add more money to my budget, or we were gonna have to stop eating, LOL!

Only thing I managed to add to the pantry stockpile so far this week was 100# of cane sugar. My Aldi trip was complicated by having three grocery lists - and three people texting me to add items - but I did finally manage to get it done. Got to daughter's house and dropped of boys and groceries, then headed home under some really dark and scary looking clouds - managed to avoid 2 fairly large dust devils but got bounced around a little by a third - luckily smaller - one that changed course after I stopped to wait for it to cross the road. Got home and got unloaded shortly before the rain hit - only ended up being about 3/4" but it came down hard enough that it was hard to see across the fields for a bit. I'm hoping that it dries up enough by Wednesday that I can finish the garden - I wore out after 3 hours in 93* heat, but did get it re-tilled (it was still rough after Hubby tilled it), raked, leveled, bean fence up, and a path raked out and ready to mulch between the flower and herb side and the food side.

Guess I'd better get ready for work; hoping things get better there soon - we have three new RNs coming on board, so that should relieve some of the short staffing - at least. But we've added a new service - with minimal training for the post care staff, so that will be something to figure out how to fit into the schedule. Sigh...

Take care all; stay safe - the heat is making people more irritable than they were to begin with!

After some big shopping trips, my stores are finally starting to look a little better. Finances and my health will never allow me to get them back to pre Y2K levels, but it's a start. I don't like to have a lot of food in the summer anyway, my house just gets too hot. The blackberries came in early, really nice berries, just not many of them. I don't have enough to make jelly like I'd planned. Hope to get 4 round bales of hay this week and that will probably be it.

are you in any position to have a root cellar of some fashion? - doesn't need to be anything more elaborate than a pop cooler in a dug pit >>> secondary benefit is having food dispersal into a hidden cache ...

I live on solid granite. :( They have to use dynamite to put in power poles in this county.

Yesterday I hit three stores, Save a lot, Super one and Walmart. I think I was shopping for at least 3 hours. When I started out I felt great and energetic. By the time I got to Walmart I was slowing down and by the time I left I was dead on my feet. They need a place for people to rest for a little while, I could have used a cup of coffee.

At save-a-lot I got a jar of Grandma's molasses for about about 40 cents cheaper than walmart, I love being able to check prices on my phone. They had gravy and seasoning mixes for 49 cents each (I ignored the contents) and I bought 4 of each. They had green limas (which I love) for 89 cents (which is a good price), I got four cans. Apple Cider vinegar (not with the mother, I use it for bathing) for 2.79, a very good price, beets at a good price (I'm the only one who eats them), a couple of shelf stable hormel compleats meals for under 2.00.

Super One had a good selection of the hormel compleats and I got several. Knorr pasta sides, (DH will not eat anything with rice in it) for 88 cents, I got two of each. I bought a cheap aluminum tortilla press there, I don't use aluminum but I thought as long as I was not cooking in it that it would be okay.

At Walmart I got four cases of water (24 size, i can't lift the 40 size anymore, same price per ounce). Kerrygold butter, they had 10 pounds of sugar for 3.30, I got two, thats a very good price. I get unsented wipes for 98 cents there, I got six and I got three different sizes of totes, not great big ones. They are clear and I can see what is inside.

Now I'm trying to get it all put away.

Wow, Judy! Sounds like you made a good run. I hear ya about being dead on your feet after such a trip. I'm the same way when I make a trip into town. We only go twice a month (when DH gets paid), so there is a lot of places to go and buy. Yesterday, was our shopping day, and I was absolutely exhausted by the time we got home. Spent the whole day in town. Came home with the trunk of our car loaded with goodies for use and storage. I found some items that I wanted to get really bad, but, alas, my budget just wouldn't let me. Hopefully, on our next run, I can manage to fit them in.

We hit Wal-Mart's, Sam's Club, Barn's and Nobel, and Army Surplus, before eating out, then came home. What made the day even more exhausting, was that it was very hot and humid. Got caught in a thunderstorm in the process.

The great BOGO deal on kitty litter continued through and I found more coupons, so more will be added to the stash. It doesn't go bad and the cats will eventually use it. I also added some more BOGO baked beans and some rice.

I did make it through that bathroom closet. Tossed out three garbage bags worth of stuff. Lots of half used toiletries from long ago trips, old lotions, out of date OTC meds (have a ton of stuff in the med closet) and the like. Finally got to see what I actually have in there. Overall wasn't too bad, and I can actually find things in there now. Big sense of accomplishment in getting that done.
