Good Morning, All!

It is a beautiful sunny day here - still cool for the moment, and the high is only supposed to get up to 80*F today, so it will be nice to work outside. I'm waiting for Hubby to get around and get ready to do some things - here is our list for today:

First, I need to fill all the bird feeders, and make more hummingbird feed. While I'm doing that, Hubby is going to make potato salad, then prep the chain-saw-onna-pole so he can cut dead branches out of the maple tree in front yard - one side is dying; we're probably going to have to take the whole tree down eventually. That is going to make me sad as it is one of two that Mama and Pop planted when they bought this farm before I was born; we lost the other one about 5 years ago. We are going to go all around the yard with the saw and cut back any dead branches we find, plus use it to prune back low hanging branches on trees so mowing is easier. Hubby will load the branches on the trailer and take them to the brush pile while I empty the grandkid's little pool and deflate it - we need to move it to a spot where I can keep a better watch through the windows.

I'll do the push mowing around places it's hard to get to with the riding mower while Hubby weed-whacks; then I will be hoeing weeds in the gardens while Hubby finishes the mowing. There are lots of weeds coming up after the rain and I just need to get the ones close to the plants; I'll till in between the rows as soon as it dries up enough to do so - probably tomorrow. After that, I need to go rip down some poison ivy that is growing up one of our cherry trees that is dying - I'm the only one left in the family that isn't allergic to the stuff, so I get to do the hands on portion. If Hubby isn't done mowing; I'll take that over while he sprays any other poison ivy in places that the spray won't hurt anything I want to keep.

I've got porch planters that need filled yet, plus I'd like to get most of the houseplants carried out to the porch for the summer. I want Hubby to see if he can change the angle of the back of the glider so that it is more upright; and I'd also like to paint a couple pieces of 2x4 to match the glider and bolt them to the legs on either end so that it is taller - it's getting a little more difficult to get up out of at it's current height

If we have any energy left (Ha!), I'd like to get the 4x8 raised bed frames that are still in good condition moved up to the front garden; the other ones knocked apart, nails pulled, and the wood taken to the brush pile. Raised beds are a lovely idea but they just don't work as well for me as I'd hoped; I'm going to pass any extra frames on to the grandsons' babysitter for use in her garden in town. Hubby will use the loader on the tractor to scoop off any weeds that are growing in the beds, then will move some of the soil for me as well; I'll get composted manure from the sale barn to finish filling the frames I put in the garden as they will be about 3.5 feet tall.

I expect the grandkids for part of the day tomorrow; it is daughter's birthday and I know she has a massage and some shopping planned. I expect Hubby will grill something and the boys and I will make her favorite strawberry shortcake for dessert.

Back to work Tuesday and Wednesday, pool with the neighbor followed by composted manure hauling on Thursday, chasing grandkids on Friday, and back to work on the weekend.

Life is good :)

Got put on-call on Tuesday; did a bunch of weeding, then tried to empty my trailer of mulch and got it about half done around noon when a bolt snapped on my wheelbarrow and tried to crunch my leg/foot; managed to twist it enough to keep it off me, but pulled a muscle in my right side and gave my right elbow a heck of a twist so had to stop with that. Plopped down at the table and was grumpily paging through the latest grocery store ad when I found split chicken breast on sale for 99 cents/lb, so cleaned up, hopped in the van and managed to drag home 15#. Got 9 pints of chicken and 6 quarts of broth canned, 3 bags of chicken strips put in the freezer, a pot of cheesy chicken veggie soup and a pan of chicken 'n biscuit stew made - and Hubby caught two raccoons in the same live trap with some of the scraps  so it turned out to be a pretty good day after all!

Heading to the mountains in a bit for the dreaded camping trip. I"ll be back home to work on Sunday, then Monday to the snake-infested prairie. Prayers/good thoughts are appreciated.
