Quick - try and see if the Southern Joint Replacement Center in Nashville might be willing to take her.
It might be far to take her - but if they will take her, there is no better place in this region for that surgery.

She had surgery yesterday without any complications at all. They didn't replace her hip, just put in pins. She was still in recovery when I talked to Mom late afternoon. I haven't heard anything this morning, yet.

Just catching up to this thread for the week. Y’all have been busy. I unplugged for a few days while catching up with my college friends for a reunion of sorts for a few days. It was wonderful. I was thankful that politics stayed out of our conversations as we tend to be on opposite ends of the spectrum. It was refreshing.

My focus this week (well asap) will be to go ahead and buy whatever otc things I can get that might be needed for MP. I’ll be honest, it seems a bit surreal. I’m not sure my brain is there yet.

Summerthyme - if there is anything you got that isn’t on the list posted in the thread on the main, will you please mention it here? Thanks!

In the past week, I have gotten more undies, a backup power bank charger, another pair of walking shoes and some more otc meds and toothpaste from dollar general. They sometimes have generic Tylenol (50 of them for $1.00), and that’s a hard deal to pass up. It’s found on their dollar aisle. You can also find .33 ounces of triple antibiotic cream for $1.00. It’s the same as sold at the dollar tree. Amazon has some cheaper, but it’s easy for me to pick up one/two at a time when running errands.

I continue to buy a pasta and sauce each time I go to a store. It’s under $2.50 if I buy the cheaper sauce. I also try to buy (at least) five items for my pantry/backups each time into a store (in addition to replacing items we’ve used up at the “use up one, buy two approach”).

Slow and steady.

I had a big canning day, yesterday, and I'm done for awhile. I've got about half of the oldest freezer emptied. The newer freezer that had the blinking light has stopped blinking, so I don't know about that thing. I'm watching it closely. It's still freezing good, and it's full. As long as I can still find a place to store it, I'm going to keep canning as much of the meat from both freezers as I can. Slow and steady.......As briches likes to say!

I'm gathering tomatoes from the gardens every day now. We're going to be eating a lot of BLT's and chef salads. I'm getting enough cukes to keep us in them every few days, too. Peppers and pole beans are going crazy. All the latest seeds haven't come up, yet, but it's a bit early for them. I'm keeping everything watered with the water tank and hose.

Doing laundry right now to hang on the clothesline. I thought we were supposed to get rain, today, but there's only a slight chance. We do need rain badly. It's so hot it just sucks the moisture right out of the ground seems like overnight.

I'm still working on my shopping list for OTC meds for monkeypox. I keep adding stuff, and taking stuff off as I see different recommendations. I'm also restocking my med's for COVID again should that break out in a big way again this Fall.

Prayers offer for quick healing for your Aunt, Sherree!

Today is youngest grandson's tenth birthday - how did that happen!!? I had given him a couple of 'advance' birthday presents for items he needed to replace, so he will just get a little cash to spend for this one, plus lunch out at a place of his choice.

I had to go to town yesterday for my annual MRI (aneurysm), so that's over and done for another year - now to wait on the results, which I should be able to check at work tonight. They do need to work on the NPO at midnight thing for people who have 3:30 pm appointments scheduled; maybe I'll suggest it  And deciding at the last minute that "Oh, she really doesn't need contrast."; well, it would have been nice if I'd had that info earlier as well - I'd have worn a long sleeve shirt as it's always so cold in there. Boy, I sound cranky today!!

I walked by the potato drawer this am on my way to the coffee pot and caught the odor of bad 'tater, so pulled everything out of the drawer and took it out to the porch for sorting, then washed the drawer with bleach water and took it out on the porch and left it in the sun to dry. I'd just gotten potatoes out of that drawer to cook the afternoon before with no odor noted. On the plus side, I found that the ginger I'd bought and put in that drawer has sprouted!! So now I need to figure out how I should plant it - anyone have any ideas about that before I go on a google search (I trust y'all a LOT more than I do google!!) Some of the potatoes had sprouts as well, so I washed any that were in the same bag and might have had ick on them; then carried the out and planted them - they likely won't make it, but what the heck! I want to give that drawer a day or so before I put it back in, so the rest of the potatoes and the garlic is going to have to find another home as well.

After tonight's shift, I have a 3 day weekend off that includes Independence Day; I usually take the grandsons to a parade, but not sure what daughter has planned; will have to check with her. Also will need to check in with work as we have a nurse off with Covid - which she discovered by a home test on the last day of her 10 day vacation... I do need to get the fence posts put in and fencing hauled out to the back garden where I planted the green pole beans (yellow pole beans in front garden) so that Hubby can help me get it put up.

What items do you have on your Monkeypox list, Sheree? I replaced the bottled pineapple juice (breaks down phlegm) I'd put in the Covid prep box with frozen as I figured it would stay good longer - I can always can it if needs be.

Well, sitting here isn't getting my laundry done or floors mopped, so I reckon I'd better get moving... You folks all take care; stay safe out there!

Renee, I just posted this over in the monkeypox treatment thread. I copied it to bring here in response to your question.

My treatment/prevention list so far, which is subject to change as more recommendations are listed, includes gloves, masks, hand sanitizers, bandages of all sizes, clorox, epsom salt, baking soda, white vinegar, natural honey, eye wash solution, eye drops, anti-itch steroid cream, antibiotic cream, calamine lotion, tea tree essential oil, clove essential oil, coconut oil, Tylenol, and Aleve. I have prescription pain killers if they should be needed. I also have Lysol laundry sanitizer for washing clothes and antibacterial soaps. I like Dr. Bonner's pure hemp peppermint castille soap. Also, homemade lye soap with cinnamon and oatmeal.

I just thought I would post my list to give others an idea.

I don't see monkeypox as a huge threat right now, but I don't want to wait for a herd panic to set in if it should blow up into something major, before getting prepared. That's why we all prep, right?

The nice weather we had for three days was gone yesterday. It got up to 96, I did not get a good walk in, when it was still reasonable I was butchering DH's hair.

I placed an order at wm.com. Still no canned foods to speak of are on shipping, so I had to scratch around for something I wanted to order.

Wm.com has 24 cans of pineapple juice on sale for 10.92 (I may have the change wrong). I ordered three cases and 4 large cans.

I'm still congested from our recent possible covid. Don't particulary feel bad, just congested, it could very easily be allergy. I'm off for a big spoon of our local honey that DH got from his bees.,

When I was talking to my sister, we talked about getting tested. She said using the home tests you can use your own q-tip to do the test. I told her I didn't trust their swabs. I don't know if I would do that, but it is in the back of my mind now. I know my precious dear sister thinks I'm nuts but then I think she is brain washed.

When I stock up on any kind of pineapple, I re-can it into glass asap.

If I stock up on it again, that's what I'll do. I also don't stock kraut in cans. It does the same thing. Eats right through the can....

I need to get the cans of pineapple juice out, and use them, before I have a mess on my hands. We love the juice, so we'll use it soon.

We haven't had any rain in weeks and it is like a dust bowl here. I was so afraid the local idiots would set the woods on fire with their careless fireworks. It started raining about an hour ago. If it would just keep it up all night, that might be enough to mitigate any sparks.

MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
Well, we are back to the weather from HADES!!!

It is very hot today....and after we had 3 whole days in the 80's......which SEEMED to be nice and cool, compared to the month from HELL!!

Now we are back to severe heat with heat indexes of 110.....but WAIT!! The rest of the week is supposed to be even HOTTER!!

But in a way, I think this is half way GOOD for me!! I have always had a great DISLIKE for summer, because it is so hot.....now I am able to tolerate the temperature up to about the mid to high 80's. Used to HATE anything above about 73.

Now, when I get up in the mornings and it's 70.....I FREEZE! Don't know how well that is going to work this winter, but for now it is making the outside work easier!!

ReneeT, as for the ginger...I put the ginger root into a zip lock bag and freeze it. When I want to use some, I just either break or cut off what I want and put the rest back. Then, I peel the ginger and use the grater.

I use ginger when I "try" to make Asian. You may use it for something else and this would not work. But, it may be worth a try.

Well, I put some things in a cart for a Walmart delivery order. It would mainly be for a MP outbreak, but also has a couple pair of cute sleep pants I found in the store the other day. ;) I can’t “pull the trigger” yet. I’m not sure if I’ll be relieved in spending the money or not. Lol

I think it would be all items that would eventually get used, but I’m wondering if it’s necessary ….. I’m going to think on it overnight. As I mentioned beforehand, still seems surreal that it should be a consideration. :(

This is me and son Sam, the groom, for the mother/groom dance. We danced to Garth Brooks "Friends in low places"..it was a hoot! I'm sorry the pic is not good. I had to try to capture it from the video.
We both had cowboy hats.

Stopped into Sams for a semi-major stockup. They did not have any ramen noodles, the first time I can remember them being out. I just rotated out one of our boxes that was nearing it's best buy date to the food bank. Got some fair deals on meat that I plan to can this weekend. Debated about buying the 3pack of Lifestraws for $40, and went ahead and got them. I already have a 3pack, so this is back up to trading stock.

People are still buying toilet paper, paper towels and bottled water like it is going out of style. Tons of it going out the door, though still plenty in stock.

Yeah, briches, all this MP prepping might not be necessary. I already have everything that is on my list here at home, except for the calamine lotion and anti-itch cream. Like you said, everything will eventually be used, anyway, whether for MP or something else. I'm still waiting for MSM to pick up the story. Once/if they do that, people might start to panic. I wanted to make sure I had everything on hand just in case a shortage arises. I'm not too concerned ATM, though. You do what feels right for you.

My aunt is still doing well. She is being moved to a medical rehab facility just down the street from where Mom lives, today. I'm glad that's where she's going, because Mom can drive herself down the street to visit all during the day. I have no idea how long my aunt will be there. She has Parkinson's really bad, so that might hinder the healing process a bit. She can't walk very well, and that's what caused her to fall and break her hip.

I'm taking a break from everything, today, and going to visit Mom. I'm taking her some of our garden tomatoes and a pint of my canned ground beef. She wants to see the canned beef. Since she is scared to death of a pressure canner, too, it's been like forever since she canned any meat (The last time was when the canner blew up with us). She never canned ground beef, and wants to see it, LOL. She made a batch of strawberry jelly, yesterday. She's also in the process of making half gallons and quarts of her famous candied sweet pickles. There's a process to it, and I think it takes about a week for the whole process to be finished. She got all the cucumbers from a friend.

Gonna be another scorcher, today. No rain with high humidity.

I made an early morning run to WalMart. Lots of parking places, no one in the checkout line and I got everything on my list. The one odd thing I noticed in the parking lot was that there were as many vehicles with Texas plates as there were Colorado plates. I guess that's the holiday visitors.

A friend recently gave me a pint of blueberry jam, which is my favorite. I asked her what she would charge for a pint, I wanted 4. We decided to trade our honey for blueberry jam. We are both happy. They have bees but did not get much honey this year and they put honey combs in theirs, I would not care for that.

Everything I have bought for treating monkeypox can be used for bug bites, cuts or scratches, and rashes of any sort, so I will use all of these supplies. I'm not as concerned with monkeypox as I am the herds panicking and buying everything in sight, or the lockdowns the government might have planned. November is the next election.

One more raised bed done and it will be planted tonight. Sunflowers, corn and squash.
DH found the best stuff for my shingles, both itch and the pain. One was a calamine spray with histamine, the other was a lidocaine spray. Both were so nice for my rash. He also bought a calamine gel with lidocaine. It stayed where you put it and help dry the couple of bad spots I got. We have several cans of each plus regular calamine.
We are discussing which solar generator to buy, he's still not sure they are the best choice. We'll see.
My pantries are fairly full. Concentrating on hba items now.
Happy 4th everyone!

My mom had a bad case of shingles a few months ago, and that's what she used. It worked really well for her, too. That's why I want to have some for just in case.
