I'm not afraid of freezer burn, spices take care of that, the dog and I both will enjoy it. My mother grew up in the depression and she was always hungry therefore she never wasted anything. Same with my older country folks from back in the day. Although their children didn't follow in their footsteps, either that or the have never been truly hungry.

And as far as there being little nutrition in the freezer burned food, its still better than fresh processed food.

If my stupid neighbor, who turned down the chicken I offered, comes knocking at my door because they have nothing to eat they are getting the chicken leg quarters I already offered them, that and one pound bag of rice, that I've gotten in commodities and have saved for just such a situation.

Cat litter doesn't really burn. It just stinks to high heaven. I do recycle my cans and glass, but I have to keep everything in the house. Even washed, it will attract bears, coons, and everything else. And if everything shuts down, I want to keep a really low profile. Most people have no clue there is a house back here, and I'd like to keep it that way. Smoke is visible for miles.

We‘ve been trying to get some of the 24oz canning jars for quite awhile and have been checking online and in person. Last night DH noticed they had them at a Walmart in the next county and you could order for pickup. Cool beans, I ordered 4 of the 9 jar cases, it told me they would send me an email with the time to come. I had two emails this morning from them, one saying that 3 of the cases had been canceled but no reason why. The other one to let me know we could pick up the 1 case after 12pm. DH went and did the pickup and then went in the store and called to tell me what they had. He came home with 5 cases total of the 24oz and 2 boxes of the half gallons that I’ve also been looking for. No lids though. I also ordered some quarts that are supposed to be shipped FedEx, hopefully they will get here and get here unbroken. I just feel the need to get more jars stocked up and filled. I probably have plenty of jars for just DH and I, but I’m thinking of our kids and grandkids too.

I got to see my granddaughter today, first time in well over a week since her brothers are sick. She is an absolute hoot! Did me good to spend time with her.

Well I thought I posted again but can't find it. Now to remember what I said.

We went to town again today, second time this week. Had to go to the bank and DH wanted to go to walmart and dollar tree, we also stopped a t Walgreens.

I was shocked at the prices of vitamins at walgreens. I do much better at Vitacost.com. Mainly I went there because they have Nice nuts on sale, 3.99 for 8.5 ozs., I got whole cashews and walnuts, they are not organic, but they will do.

Dollar Tree didn't have the allergy meds we take, but I picked up two more of the long handled lighters and a pack of 3 regular lighters. The had facial tissue with 175 count, the other brands had much less, two boxes. Two decks of cards, gotta have something to do if the power goes out. Two carmex lip balms. And the only food was two bags of quinoa.

Now walmart, I bought DH more bags for his food saver, he's going through a lot with the four pigs he's just butchered. they had the cocoa that I had ordered that got destroyed in shipping. Three cases of walmart bottled water. The only fresh food I got was a head of organic lettuce for DH and Leeks for me and a few bags of frozen veggies to dehydrate. They finally had unsweetened coconut, and they had a few bags of corn meal, I got one. Two more Bristol canned hams. They had two cases of canning jars, I got both. And they had Golden Harvest brand lids, 3 or 4 cases, I bought 16 boxes at 1.47 each. I should be set on lids for a good while. Probably something else I can't remember, I spent $190.00. Ouch.

Dollar Tree shelves were really picked over. The cashier said they have more product in the back but can't keep the shelves stocked. Walmart looked about the same as earlier in the week.

The best part of my trip was the conversations I had, two ladies in the bank and two ladies at walgreens. The line at walgreens we hugely long so naturally I got in a conversation with the young woman next to me. She has a good head on her shoulder and knows what is going on, same with the younger woman who was the cashier. She was masked because she refuses to take the jab, as I was walking away she whispered "thank you for being respectful", she's black, so sad that people don't take other people at face value. Both of these two young ladies know what is what, no jab for either of them. The other conversation I had was with two ladies at the bank. One had a buzz cut hair cut. She had a bad case of covid pneumonia and her hair fell out, and this was months ago, she's not getting the jab and the other lady, probably in my neck of the woods age wise, had covid for two weeks and wanted to die, she had depression, loss of taste, but all of a sudden after two weeks it completely went away, no more depression and her taste came back. Oh and the cashier at Dollar Tree knows whats going on, another young black woman that has a clue. So that is five women and myself in Natchitoches, LA that did not drink the koolaide, it gave me hope. I don't think they can gets us all.

We got a scare, yesterday. DS called to tell us the our DDIL had to go to Urgent Care, because she was bad sick. She was tested for COVID, but was negative. She does have a nasty sinus infection, though. Neither of them have had the jab.

My case of Keystone pork came late yesterday afternoon. I was so glad none of the cans were damaged. I'm going to be alternating between the pork and beef cases every 2 weeks for awhile. I've been wanting to add more canned meat to my pantry. I've got over 100 cans of chicken breasts, so I need to catch up on the pork and beef. Plenty of Spam, smoked ham, and tuna already on hand. Also, plenty of chili and DAK hams. We eat more chicken than anything else. That's why I've stocked so much of it.

Brown Bread should be delivered, today.

We're going to be eating our first tomatoes out of the garden, tonight. BLT's!!!!

Made a quick trip to Wallyworld. No pineapple juice. Some pineapple chunks in cans but no juice. I found that there was food there but the choices were limited. Yesterday I tried one of the hams from Aldi's. I wanted to see how far it would stretch and what the quality was. I was pleasantly surprised. I chopped some of it up in eggs for breakfast, made mac and cheese with some of the ham, and had enough left to fry for breakfast today. I found that it was not gristly...is that a word?!...and while we would not normally eat this way it would fill bellies and offer a bit of protein. It also offers versatility.

Am all done with tomatoes! Praise God! I ended up with 3 gallons of dehydrated slices and I don't know how much tomato sauce and juice. And lots of chopped tomatoes which I use for salsa. Thankful for the bountiful harvest!

Today we start corn!

Just a note, folks are having serious allergy problems up here. Combination of the Saharan Dust that's blowing in repeatedly, and the high grass pollen and mold count due to the excessive rainfall. We're getting drier now, but with the dust it's still pretty ugly.

She has no known allergies, except that she is gluten intolerant. MSG gives her migraines. She's had this infection before at the very beginning of the COVID outbreak. They hadn't even begun testing for Covid at the time.

Speaking of tomatoes, While cleaning out one of the freezers I found several bags of frozen tomatoes from last years bountiful harvest, in several sizes. Usually I dehydrate them, but last year I froze a lot. I don't make sauce or juice. We don't use a red sauce much although but when I was raising my family I did, DH is just not that fond of it. But then again he's not that fond of my cooking. Oh well. If I'd bake pies all the time he'd belly up to them, but alas for him I don't.

We eat a lot of canned tomatoes, so I'm always thankful for a big harvest. I can them whole for a stewed tomato and onion side dish. I can diced tomatoes to use in my spaghetti sauce. I also use them to make my soup and stew stock. Oldest DS loves homemade tomato soup made from diced tomatoes, onions, and egg noodles with a bit of bacon grease, salt, and lots of black pepper. That's the way my mom made it growing up.

Prep fail. Prep recover.

Squeezing the last of the toothpaste out of the tube this morning. Went to get another tube. Where did I put the toothpaste? Is it here? Maybe it's there? I'll check again! Wow, did I run out of toothpaste?

Yes.

Ordered more. Arriving Tuesday it's claimed.
I hate it when I hide stuff from myself! I even have a notebook but I still manage to have to look for stuff!
