Our Walmart seems to attract a rougher crowd, and I just dislike Walmart. I know the DG manager and she is always very helpful. Here, their prices are pretty good, especially when compared to the local family-owned groceries.

For the second year in a row I’ve bought quite a bit of Tide and Gain at Dollar General for $1.95, both the liquid and the pods. They put them on sale for usually $3.95 or $4.95 and I combine those sale prices with the $2 and $3 P&G July coupons and it makes for some cheap detergent. And as Barb said you have to watch their prices. I’ve picked up name brand disposable razors for $1/pack after sale prices and coupons.

Garlic

This is jumbo garlic that I bought at a yard sale today, compared to
my normal sized bulb. The man said it isn’t elephant garlic, but a variety he’s grown for 40 years, and doesn’t remember the name of it. I bought several bulbs to plant this fall.

Got 2 pairs of boots for dh and a round bale of hay. Finally found a pair of shorts for me that fit. I don't like them, but evidently they don't make shorts with pockets for women anymore. That will fit me anyway.
Getting more worried about the food shortages but this isn't my week to buy groceries and $$ were allocated elsewhere.

I've got shorts with good pockets and even back pockets (mostly some I've had a while) and some with skimpy front pockets the even a lip balm will fall out of. I need my pockets because I have pocket stuff that I want on me all the time. I really like having back pockets, a bandanna in one and a thin pair of leather gloves in the other. The front pockets on one side is a vicks inhaler, a small leatherman with scissors, a buck knife, a round tin of vicks, Ice drops breath mints and one of those round compressed towels, the other pocket a small flash light, a colored chap stick, and two lip balms and a tiny container of pink salt. I always want these things with me, never know when I might need something. And then there is my cross body purse. . . .

When you get dressed each morning, you really get dressed! I admire that.

For the summer, I wear long lounge dresses, no pockets, for my around the house work clothes. I've looked and looked for ones that have pockets, but can't find any. Even if they have pockets, they are mostly for decoration instead of being practical. I order mine from Blair. They have lots of shorts, too.

Thanks, anyway. I appreciate it. I'll just stick with ordering my pool loungers from Blair. They have lots of petite sizes to pick from. I've ordered lots of different styles and colors to wear now, and to put in storage for later use. Some are in my prep clothing storage bags. Vacuum sealed. It pays to wait for them to go on sale with free shipping, though.

Anyone else do clothing preps?

I did some canning this week, despite the heat. I canned 14 quarts of vegetable soup, 9 pints of taco sauce, and I just put 7 quarts of potatoes in the canner. Tomorrow I’m hoping to pick jalapeños and get them canned.

I read somewhere that as a rule of thumb you need 100 quart jars per person for a year.

I certainly do, DH and I have a huge stash of clothes. We shop almost exclusively from thrift stores. Every time I clean out my closet I end up regreting it, so no more of that unless its something I wouldn't be caught dead in. My weight goes up and down so I have varying sizes. And I'm not one of those women that only has a couple of bras either or underware. I also rotate the undergarments. I've probably accumulated 30 pair of compression stockings since I started wearing them. I have them stacked where I don't wear the same pair in how ever long it takes me to go through the stack.

I could probably go without ever buying another pair of shoes. But then again I wear flipflops year round, even with my compression stockings.

We shop at Walmart online about weekly but only drive to an actual store a couple times per year. Everything mostly is bought online or at our local very tiny town.

I still shop at walmart or where ever I can find the best price. I buy from them online and in the store. There is very little choice for places for me to shop unless I drive to a big city 70 miles away. I don't think there are any Aldi's in Louisiana. And now that Piggly Wiggly has bought out savalot and PW is one of those add 10% to the price at the register, I doubt I'll shop there. I'll check it out to see whats what, but its not likely a shopping option for me.

We don't shop at Walmart anymore, and haven't for some time. I shop at Tractor Supply, Dollar General, and Hometown Market. Hometown Market is like a small Walmart, but independently owned. It also has all the groceries that you would find at Walmart. Sometimes for meat, I stop in at Food Giant, which is employee owned.

I still do small orders online from Sam's. The items I order from them are much, much cheaper than anywhere else.

Hit Walmart for a printer cartridge. Mine is going out after about4 years of heavy use, but I'm trying to put off buying another. Also ran by the local hardware....all 3 local stores owned by the same family going out of business. It will be a real pain with them gone...means using Walmart (which for a variety of reasons I don't like to), or driving 40 miles to the next nearest one. Heading out to pick up produce packs now. I get 2 for dh and I and it pretty much takes care of fresh fruit and veggies for the month. We just eat a lot of salad the first week or so!

ETA: Yay - the new printer cartridge worked, so I don't have to get a new printer. Not too happy about all the features (like HP keeping track of how much I print, so they can send new cartridges, etc) on the newer ones. I just want something that can print and copy.

Produce paks were pretty good too:
For $15, I got:
