We got an order in from Chewy's with more kitty litter and made a run to Petsmart for more cat food. With 5 cats we go through both fairly quickly. Still working on finishing the "new" bugout bags. Almost done Otherwise just relaxing this weekend. Spending time with the grandkids, getting laundry done, and enjoying the cool/cold weather with a fire in the fireplace.

I like reading the prep threads so much more than all the stuff on the main and in the BS, those threads are giving me a worse headache today than I already had. Yesterday I ordered a sleeping bag. I use to have several but they all fell by the wayside and I realized I did not have a viable one. As long as we are inside our house I'm not worried about getting too cold. We do have our wood stove, but our furnace is down until we get a new part, should be by Friday, that is if the world has not gone to hell in a hand basket. If the power goes down we have other ways to do stuff. However, it has taken DH & I years to get to the point we are. Building up a little at a time, but that may not be possible in the future, the future is looking different that what we are use to. Its all in God's hands.

Thanks, Briches; I was still wandering around in a state of caffeine depletion at 9 am 
I need the caffeine infusion because the grand-dog slept by my bed last night instead of with one of the grandsons; he kept alerting to something outside. He's a very considerate dog and only barks when there are people (one woof), actual danger or when told to speak, so his alert mode is standing up and looking out the bedroom door, or walking to the door and asking to be let outside; last night was mostly just standing up. He knows I won't let him out when the coyotes are howling, so he just pokes his nose into my face to make sure I know they are there.
I was at the Evil Empire twice this past week to hit the pharmacy; picked up a 4# bag of dry milk each time and wandered out to see if the seed racks were set up yet - answer: no. We usually have an open bag of dry milk because Hubby makes hot cocoa mix for here and to carry to work; I'm glad we had one open to use to mix up a quart of milk for the boys' breakfast pancakes because all there was in our small town (one grocery store, a Dollar General, 2 gas station/convenience marts) when the youngest boy and I went in to grab dog treats were a couple half gallons of 1% and a few way overpriced 20 oz bottles of milk. I'm pleased that I remembered to add a couple of drops of vanilla extract to it; back when I used it a lot more often, I would sometimes add a tablespoon of instant vanilla pudding mix instead of the extract.
Took a while to get the boys moving - we went in to my work town to get the oldest boy a hair cut - and I ended up with one too; I should have looked at the almanac first - neither one of us were very happy with the cuts. His was too short and mine was choppy. Ah well; it'll grow back...
We hit the Chinese buffet while we were in town; then the younger one conned me in to a trip to the Dollar Tree since it's just down the way. A quick stop at Rural King for a few things (an extra tube of Ivermectin somehow fell into my buggy), and to check for garden seeds (nope), then a quick a slide through the Sonic drive up, and we were back on the way home. I'm ready for a nap

Got the chimney started in the sugar shack. With all the rumors flying about this week I may fill a couple more of the auxiliary gas cans. If we get the stimulus check before this all goes south I am planning on ordering a couple cords of wood and getting 2 more batts for the solar. Not vital but more of a padding the supplies. Ordered seeds Friday night but they are several weeks out at best. Biggest thing is I should start working from home again sometime this week. Much rather be here than in the office incase things go south.

Decided on guttering for the house. I'm tired of the north side of the yard being muddy all winter. Time to divert what I can't save into the street befor it damages my house and land any further.
Bought some foam to make mattresses for the cots up at the BOL. A queen sized topper will make 2 mattresses when cut in half lengthwise. Gonna stitch up slipcovers with snaps on the open end to put on them so I can wash them in my bucket-n-plunger washer. I really look forward to having a little bit of comfort out there. How did I sleep on the hard ground as a young adult?

Stopped at the dollar tree yesterday and picked up ten quarts of the shelf stable milk. Expires in 9 months. We’ve discovered it tastes “okay” (we like better than powdered) and is great to have in the pantry in case we run out of milk. Also got an eyeglass repair kit and some toothpaste / mouthwash. Can’t beat it for $1.00 each.
I’m doing our “normal” grocery shopping for the week and I imagine a few extras might find their way to my cart but no panic buying for me.

stopped by the local Dollar Tree for the first time in months & months >>> the first aid/med aisle certainly took a hit - the salves & ointments were the best deal in the store - aspirin type products and some alcohol is about all that's stocked ....

if you have a fairly modern furnace - the actual motor might be OK - might be just the electronic (ECM) module that controls the motor >>> they are usually sold together - so your buy is on track ...
but that 1/2hp motor could be useful around the place for other uses - a backup to your new one - wouldn't just let the tech carry it off ....

Misplaced the weight for my pressure canner and had to order a new one. The company I bought the canner from only had a few weights left in stock.

its old. hopefully the new one will get here on time, but DH has it running some, enough to keep the chill out. It was running last night when the electricity went out. DH is having trouble with the generators, he didn't really appreciate when i said this situation might just be a blessing to so we can get things checked out for future unknown issues. So I had not internet, no tv, but I did have the phone number of one of my friends here on TB, it was very comforting to talk to her.

Along with my intent to minimize my purchasing in the economy, I went out today to buy 2 used cabinets for a total of $25.44. This has effectively prevented a minimum of $125.00 from reaching the Biden economy.
Also, we have canned another 14 pints of chicken with livers for the cats.
This has prevented another $30+ from reaching the economy.
So far I have been able to depress the Biden economy by $155.00 this year. Go me!!!!

DH was up and out of the house early this morning and made a Sam’s run. He only got a few “storage” items and the rest was regular type groceries but no heavy cream *gah* If and when we make a Sam’s or Costco trip we always buy 2 to 4 quarts because it’s cheaper there. They don‘t even have a space for it anymore! He said they only had a small amount of half and half and even though the varieties and amounts of cheeses has gone down in that store the past few years, it was even worse today. We use a lot of dairy products around here so I told DH we needed to get a dairy cow and teach little granddaughter how to be a milkmaid!
I bought 2 cases of pint jars and one of jelly jars at our the closest Neighborhood Market. I can more in pints since it is just the 2 of us. The store looked fairly well stocked.
Our daughter and her hubby butchered a pig for the first time. They even rendered the lard. They both loved the meat. They have 2 more small breed pigs that need to grow a little more yet.
We picked up more feed today too. Now to just sit back and see what happens in the world. I pray it works out. Our future generations need it to..

Got a mouse in the house the other day and had only one pack of mousetraps at home. Tomorrow I’m going to buy a bunch more.... we don’t get a mouse very often sometimes not any for years but I’d like to have some on hand..... just in case so will be adding some to my preps.

I use it for coffee, cooking and sometimes biscuits or add to milk when making yogurt. I have some of the canned stuff in the pantry but so far haven’t tried it yet. I’ve seen that recipe using the milk and unsalted butter but haven’t tried it, I need to write it down for a backup to my backup. Thanks.
Feeeling weird today. Just something is telling me that things are gonna go down hill. Thinking if all sorts of possibilities and preparing as much as i can. Just wish all this would end. My biggest worry is my kids and what they will have to face in the future. Prep, prep, and more prep.

Obviously many on this site think something is up. Me too. We are ready but I placed another Walmart order today anyway. Likely will do another tomorrow too. Just too much happening. Makes me nervous and when I get nervous I order more stuff. Space here is an issue.

getting a ton of coal tomorrow, dog. cat, chicken feed. extra milk for DH, we have a lot of box milk for the boys they like. filling up all vehicles, extra cans. extra hay is in for horses. got to pack a get home bag for SIL. he is still commuting to city for work.
DD and SIL went for last load of stuff in city today, and other errands. closing on house is friday. then we are all done. waiting and watching, something is going to happen.
when i am stressed, i clean. or build or do work of some kind. we re did sons room for his birthday. he paid for it. paint, tiles, flooring, bedding, 2 big wall storage systems. you name it. its gorgeous.
while watching boys today i cleaned her camper. we hauled all the burnable stuff from re doing the room out to the burn pile. made a big dinner. compulsive cleaning. well at least i'm productive.
DD and SIL went for last load of stuff in city today, and other errands. closing on house is friday. then we are all done. waiting and watching, something is going to happen.

Topped off the gas in my vehicle yesterday. Payed most of the monthly bills. Have a couple online ones to pay in the next couple of days while the Net is still up. Most I pay by check, but have a couple online ones. I can pay those by check too if needed.

Man this one crafty and smart!!! Friday he was running bravely all over the house..... from laundry to the living room. Then I saw him stop look at me and ran into the kitchen and I haven’t heard t seen him since!! Traps out at all the normal places..... thought maybe he left..... but last night I could smell him and then found a package of almonds he nibbled on!!! Today we will battle and I will win. When he stopped he looked on the small size so cute really. Kinda wished he would just leave so I don’t have to kill him. Hubby was saying maybe he got into the poison in the carport closet and is dead. Maybe....

Placed an order for pickup tomorrow, ran by a small local place for a few things and I am having an echocardiogram at 11:30. It's the one i should have had last year. 
Filling the car up with gas and making a couple more stops, then home and a nap. I'm as ready as I can be.

We bought several more 5 gal gas cans, and filled them up, today. Finally, I'm getting my freezer defrosted tomorrow. I've got everything set up, and ready to go first thing in the morning. Gotta get it done, so I can refill while there is meat to buy that I can afford.

Had to go to town to get propane tanks filled and told the propane people that the generator will not run from the big tank, they are sending some one out to check it out. Went to dollar tree, it was really picked over. I did get a few things though and then to Walmart, I needed more filters for the furnace. And naturally I got a few things.
the parking lot had a lot of vehicles, the can food isles were crowded. I didn’t see really big holes.

DH's saw blades came today and the motor for the furnace may come tomorrow, it was in Jackson, MS at noon today. I've got one more delivery from amazon, and none from walmart. I also cancelled my prime, if I want something from them in the future I will make an order of $25 for free shipping, but I intend to keep that at a minimum.
I bought a couple of 64 gb flash drives at walmart today and will download all my pictures from FB and delete anything personal from there, and eventually drop FB, I've already cancelled twitter and instagram. Years ago I changed my birth date to a way different date, LOL and they think I live in MD.

We picked up a very few canned goods yesterday at the local grocery. Still a few holes in their stock. Then we went to Atwoods and they had their seed racks out. I got a few more packages.
I bought extra feed for the animals on Monday. So that is good for a while if we can't get more. I could cull a few more hens if I need to.
I took a walk on the deer trails looking for antler sheds. No luck. But I did find what I an 90% sure is bear scat at the edge of the woods. Our dog had been barking a lot lately and I could never see anything but one coyote. I love this dog. She is so good and doesn't wander. But she does not bark at people, only critters. My cousin has a dog she wants to give me, but I am afraid that 2 dogs would get into trouble. The other dog has been in a pen or staked out most of its life. Cousin took it just to keep it till she could find it a home. While I want another dog, I don't want a problem dog.

Defrosting is underway! It's going smoothly. I emptied what was left in the freezer into large coolers, and set a fan to where it would blow directly down into the freezer. I'm so very glad to get this done today. Tomorrow is our normal shopping day, and I plan to get as much meat as we can afford to start the refilling process.
I used my wifes hair dryer and it worked slick. The ice came out in big chunks and was a lot easier to deal with then the water.

My fan worked great for me. I'm already all finished, cleaned, and have started refilling with some of the new meat I've already bought (2 weeks ago). I just took it out of the other freezer. I always date everything, so I know what is the newest. I'm thinking about using plastic shopping bags to place the new meat in, so it's easier to keep separated from the rest.
We have a bunch of those reusable shopping bags. I use those to keep some order. By year and type. 2019 Hams etc. I tried the plastic shopping bags but they were too fragile. A couple of lifts, moves and bumps and the bag tore.

Thanks for that idea. I save all of my plastic shopping bags, and was wanting to save money by using them. I just going to double bag everything. That's what I've done with all my garden seeds. I keep those in the freezer, too. No problem with tearing.

My absentee neighbors, who I really like, had told me that they were retiring and moving back full time by the summer. Well they decided they didn't like the way things were looking, so they moved back last week! 
They're already going wide open getting their greenhouse ready, and he's been doing tractor work in our shared driveway.

My absentee neighbors, who I really like, had told me that they were retiring and moving back full time by the summer. Well they decided they didn't like the way things were looking, so they moved back last week!
Sounds like what is going on here. There are 80 acres that surround our property. Every bit of it is old growth timber, mostly oaks. It is owned by a distant relative of mine who lives in Huntsville, AL. He is turning it into his bug out location, and has been working towards that for the past few months. He has already built his tractor shed. The area is so vast, he could live there year around, and we wouldn't even know he was there. It's good to know that he is a Trump supporter and a prepper. Still, he doesn't know anything about what we do as far as preps go, and we plan to keep it that way. We no longer trust anyone with our secrets. Only family members who are also preppers.

Kind of what is happening here. Yesterday I spent some time looking at properties well away from where we now live but I gave up the search.My absentee neighbors, who I really like, had told me that they were retiring and moving back full time by the summer. Well they decided they didn't like the way things were looking, so they moved back last week!
Every square inch of private land around here is being sold and set up for houses. The well drilling rig is busy as can be and never drives back to the shop, instead just driving from one then a half mile away to the next job.
No one can build close to me but it still feels like we will be living inside a city soon. Most all the "new" places will have to be off-grid. I'm pulling my hair out!
