The enormity of the implications of the election being certified hit me yesterday. I was baking bread and it hit me. Socialism is one thing I'm not prepped for.

I'm going into canning beast mode. I know I can only do so much as the stores are out of lids and jars. Lids will be kept and more carefully removed.

On my last trip to walmart I was looking around in the canning section, they actually had jars, but no regular mouth lids. I decided to get a case of 4 oz jars. I plan to use these for powdered stuff and spices. The lids looked really small, but they are the regular mouth size. I have spices that need to be repackaged and these can be vacuum sealed.

My chairs arrived today. They are really nice. They look good with the table and are comfortable. I will store my old ones in our barn. I got them out of my dad's barn years ago.

I hit the post reply too soon.

There were no jars that I wanted at the hardware store. They only had a few cases of Pur brand. I have never heard if them so I passed. No lids either. I did get more vacuum bags while we were there.

We stopped at the local Harps store on the way home. I think folks are stocking up again. There were several holes on the shelves and other items are were only face fronted on the shelves. Inventory was lower than I had seen in awhile. I replaced some things we had used and got another package of TP. Hubby wants me to make a list on things to add to our stores.

Went to the Dollar Tree today. They had just done inventory and the shelves were EMPTY!!! Lots of stuff to unpack, but not much on the shelves. I got minor stuff like the battery operated candles, some travel size sunblock and a few other things.

I have been working on repacking/redoing the bugout bags into different bags with updated equipment, food and clothing. The old ones were too old and I had forgotten what was in there. Surprised at some of the things I found. Going around and filling in some holes (with some stuff coming from Amazon), I amazed myself with what I found around the house. Apparently at one time I bought up a bunch of knives for barter and had forgotten all about them. Same with a big bag of emergency blankets. Apparently taking water filtration to heart, I have about 4 different water bottle filters, in addition to the lifestraws and a mini-sawyer. Some of my old lighters worked, some didn't. Don't have as many flints as I thought. Can't seem to find my tourniquets yet. I have stuff stashed all over this house. I have tried to keep it somewhat organized, but right now it is like a treasure hunt :)

The Dollar Tree here has has crystallized lemon called "True Lemon". I bought a box and I am surprized at the flavor. It just contains lemon and a small amount of citric acid. Today I went back and bought several more boxes. Should store a very long time. Each $1 box has 16 packets. I use just a little from one packet in my water to give it some taste. Now in the winter I often drink it hot. Cheaper per packet at Dollar Tree than at Walmart.

need plenty of stuff like that in your "flu kit" - don't even rely on having some in the pantry - being able to make the hydration fluid patible to the kids and to everyone taking some yuck medicine .....

Did some burning today in the new burn barrel.

Decided that while I was doing that I would put up a free cabinet in the shed to hold a few things. No biggie, it went in easy enough and looked decent overall. So much so that I decided to add two more. Well I don't have two more. So off to the 2nd hand home store. They have a few but not any exactly like I wanted. No biggie Home Depot will have them cheap.....

OMFreakingG!!!!

A simple 12 by 18 by 30 cabinet now costs between $97 and $130 out the door.

I am heading back to the 2nd hand place as those cabinets are so bad now..... I am not spending between $200 to $400 dollars on cabinets.

The blower fan motor went out in our furnace. DH got it out and cleaned it really well and it looks like it may work. The new one won't be here until Friday. We have a wood stove and several electric heaters so we won't freeze if the motor doesn't work. Fortunately I had new filters on hand. We are no down to two more in the box, time to re order more.

We used to do that also. Wait until the last couple in the box. After this covid thing we have changed to having two boxes. One we are using and one more in case they stop delivering. If we empty one box, we re-order asap.

The wife is not 100% in tune with this, but it has saved our behinds at least twice in the last 6 months when odd things were unavailable.

Does anyone have advice on storing well water in 5 gallon jugs. One drops of bleach to each jug?

make sure you have just the standard bleach and not the concentrated formula - it's 8 "drops" per gallon >>> nothing is required for fresh tap water that is municipal sourced - you can refresh the water with additional bleach treat after a year ....

I am canning some more cat food in pint jars today. Basically it is chicken and livers in a pint jar. People can eat the stuff if needed as that is a back up plan I hope never ever to use.

Anywho......

I get all 14 pints done and fill the canner realizing I have 6 left over pints that I will have to can later. THEN I remember I have another canner. So all is being done at the same time.

It sucks getting old sometimes. I got that one for this very purpose and forgot about it until I put the first one out and saw the 2nd one.
