Every time I turn on a light I thank God.

I was a worried about how would dh get the generators to his truck forgetting about his tractor with the bucket on it and about the double gate he his back where the generator shed. Silly me for worrying, it’s all in Gods hands.

I’m trying to figure out what shoes I need to get for wearing in the house, they need to be easy to slip on with a good arch support, hard to really tell on line. I’m up and down in my chair and prop my feet up with out shoes.

This is a link from our local tv station showing photos of some of the damage from the ice storm. Oxford to the west of us and Corinth and Booneville just to the north of Tupelo.

We have a member here, Lee2 that is probably in the thick of that mess. She lives a bit north of Tupelo, but I don't know exactly where.

Look at Orthofeet shoes online. They are wonderful! They come with two orthotic inserts, al9ng with a pair of arch supports you can add if you need them.
They also are "hands free" ...no tying and untying laces, just shove your foot in without bending over.

They have a ton of styles. They aren't cheap, but I've been wearing two pairs (one for house shoes and one for outdoor garden/farm work) since last spring. They still feel new, and ive washed the outdoor pair in the washer twice.

With both the wood heater and wood stove going, we're staying toasty warm, have a way to cook, and plenty of potable water in the house. Now that the storm has passed us, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we lost power now that it's all over with. With our electricity being the way it is, it can go out on a clear day.
I've thought the same thing but having electric all the way through has been a huge blessing. They've warmed up our future temps for the next several days, just a little, but the lows are the same or a little lower. Our high today is 27 and low -2 but the rest of the week is mostly above freezing for the highs and there is no sign of the second round they predicted anywhere in the forecast...yay!

We've been working on those meals I prepped before hand lol. I turned the chicken into chicken and dumplings last night...no leftovers there thank goodness lol. I've finally got my fill of potato salad and there's plenty of ham left but it will keep. We'll eat stew again tonight...it freezes well and I'd intentionally made enough to freeze some any way.

There is some hamburger meat left so I'm thinking fried meat and veggie pies and fried apple pies tomorrow night. I'm trying yet another fried pie dough recipe that sounds a lot like mama's. When the grands go home, DH and I are going to have some healthy meals for a while. I thought my DS and DDIL would be here too because I also expected to lose electric. Since that didn't happen, thank goodness, and they were able to stay home, I have more food left over than I expected. That is a good thing because they didn't have to leave their animals.

We are down right balmy today at 28 degrees..we didn't get the wind
DH has the loader on the tractor and has been clearing the driveway..and around the mail box..no idea when they will deliver again..
We will stay below freezing until February 3 per the forecast....zero tonight and a couple of minus nights..and some single digits...oh joy...
Very cold for the area
We are warm and everything is working so far...and have everything thing we need..
they have put up lots of all electric houses and McMansions in this county in the last couple of years...hope the grid can handle all the heating demand coming... if not we will be fine...sure glad we won't have to pay their heating bills..

SB..you are so right about pines..they break like crazy in the ice...and also wind storms..with the we just had DH moved all the vehicles away from the trees..
We lucked up because it stayed mostly sleet and not freezing rain..so no tree damage..

That big pot of chicken noodle soup was good, but once I realized that the storm would miss us, I put the rest in the freezer for another day. We had sandwiches last night with chips, and this morning, I made a big batch of meatballs. With half of them, I put them on the wood stove, made some gravy, and they've been simmering all day. The rest went into the freezer to use another day. We've been eating a lot of my bread for sandwiches, so tomorrow is another bread baking day.

I'm not even paying attention to our weather forecast for next weekend. I will, once it gets closer to that time.

Its been snowing heavily since noon, after first blowing itself out overnight. We must have had some odd winds, because the car...in the covered pavilion...has four foot drifts around it!

We got probably 14" in the initial storm, and there's got to be another foot out there from today. We're still under winter storm warning until tomorrow morning, and then a lake effect storm warning until Thursday night. The Lake Effect warning is calling for another *additional* one to two feet!

That often misses us (barely) to the north, but a difference of degree or two in wind direction can make the difference between 2" and 2 feet.

It sure is pretty out!

We rely on a couple of feet of snow to beautify the yard until spring. Our yard is looking anything but pretty right now. I won't have to worry about the onion starts getting too big before they go in the ground. And I'm wondering if I should get a few more seedlings started at this rate. We should be as cold or colder than most of you affected by this storm. We haven't really even had a storm this year. Friday or Saturday I'll go out and prune the apple trees.

I've got a few packages of books to get ready for the post office. I decided to see if any TB2K peeps would be interested in using junk silver to buy some of my damaged books. Amazon is none too careful about packing them, and there's usually one or two in every shipment that has a crunched cover. Of course, half the time Amazon isn't too interested in shipping, either. I'm still waiting for 31 of the 50 books I ordered December 4. All the website says is "delayed."

Our mailman never showed today, so hopefully tomorrow my payment will go out! I *think* we're going to get a break on the lake effect snow machine for a few hours!

Today has been sunny and it's currently 18º/feels like -20º due to 22 mph winds from the west. I went to the mailbox around 11:30 this morning before the wind and it was cold but not miserable. Very little snow remains on the ground as the last two "blizzards" were a skiff of snow and 50 mph winds.

I've been cleaning today trying to get things back in order from Saturday. Did dishes, scrubbed kitchen and dining rooms and vacuumed living-room and hallway. Under one toddler chair there was something stuck to the floor that required soaking and a putty knife to get up. No idea what it was!!

My dd gave me a gift card for Fareway which will help with next month's shopping trip. I may use most of it to stock up on meat for the freezer over the next few months. I haven't shopped since January 6, and my shopping list is still quite short. I may or may not do a shopping trip later this week if the weather stays decent. This time of year, trips to town are based on weather more than need! I was out of milk and have been using shelf-stable milk for several days, so I asked a neighbor to pick up a half gallon for me when she went shopping this a.m. Almost $3 for a half gallon of 2% at local Dollar General while 2 quarts of shelf stable from Dollar Tree cost $2.50.

A month and a half ago I got a pair of OrthoComfoot orthopedic diabetic shoes on Amazon. They were reasonably priced and are very comfortable. Once I got the Velcro adjusted I just slip them on and off. I don't know what they have in women';s shoes but here is a link to their full catalog on Amazon.

I, too require good arch support. Mine came with two different insoles and removable heel cups. They have a wide toe box and are very comfortable. I like them as well or better than many of the expensive prescription orthotic shoes I have had in the past.

Getting more coffee. Tended stove again.
They changed our forecast a little too.
The heater in the basement is no longer running I don't know what's wrong I checked everything.
Yesterday my son shoveled for an hour and I had the truck driving it all over the yard that I can get to flatten down the snow. Very very heavy and some spots too I was able to get out the driveway and get to the little village to Dollar general for supplies. Very slow going. Plows were out but there is just so much snow.

PDJT will be in Clive today, that's a western suburb of Des Moines. It shares a border with West Des Moines. Our President should be safe -- it's Trump country -- but please keep him in your prayers. I'm hearing that some scary-looking neon-haired freaks are also in town to protest.

I'm north of all that and will stay out of the way.

It's 17 degrees right now with sunny skies. Our low last night was 12 degrees. The wind chill is still in the single digits. Both the wood stove and wood heater are purring right along. House is toasty warm. 41 for our high, today.

I'll be baking bread today, and I might make another loaf tomorrow. I have a doctor appointment on Thursday with my retina specialist, so I want to get my bread made up, before then.

I'm finished with my bread baking for today. I'll make more, tomorrow. Cary goes through a lot of bread, plus, I love baking it. I have a favorite recipe and the dough is so easy to work with. I have a long list of ingredients that I can add to each loaf to make each loaf different in taste. Today, I made poppy seed loaves. I plan to make garlic/caraway loaves, tomorrow. I can add shredded cheese or minced onion to the loaves if I want. All kinds of different herbs alone or in combination with other things.

I'm warming up left over meatballs and gravy for supper, tonight. That should finish them off. The other half of the meatballs I made yesterday are in the freezer to use with spaghetti another night. I'll probably have leftovers then, too. I made a lot of meatballs, LOL. I'm making mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, and fried cabbage to go with the meatballs and gravy, tonight.

Other than doing all that, it's really been a slow day.

A few years back, when I was doubling down on pepping one of the things I stored was canned meat. I've yet to find bio enginered foods on most of the labels. One thing I have a good supply of is Crider chicken from Dollar Tree. Even the newer cans don't say it has bioenginerred foods one the can.

Unless they added something like cornstarch for thickening a gravy, you won't see bioengineered food labels on meat. At least, not yet! Right now, the "bioengineered foods" are just the comm9n corn, soy, sugar beets...those which have had Roundup Ready genes inserted in them.

PDJT had a successful (and safe) visit to Iowa today, praise the Lord!

One news reporter said there were 3,000 protesters but I think it was significantly less, more like 1,500, if that. It was in the teens and protesters were coming and going. I didn't see enough film footage to look for familiar faces. What I saw seemed to be mostly older white women. In any case, no riots or shootings, so that was good.

Good Morning!

It's a balmy 17 degrees and overcast. I'm grateful that the month is almost over, but I can't believe that it's almost Groundhog Day. It seems like I was just putting away the Christmas candles!

Whether the silly groundhog sees his shadow or not, there's about six more weeks of "hard" winter, and I've got to get the seed trays out and filled. It's time to start the loofa seeds and put the elderberry seeds in milk jugs with soil. They go outside to stratify (get cold treated). I'm also going to start some marigold seeds soon, just for morale reasons. They get a little leggy but grow just fine in the kitchen window.

We slept in late this morning. It was after 7 am when I finally crawled out. Cary stoked up the fire, and I've been sitting by it drinking coffee all morning. I can't seem to get motivated to doing anything. I had some pain in my bladder last night, and I'm praying that I'm not in for a lupus flare up. Right now, the pain just comes and goes. I see my doctor Feb. 9th. Eye specialist, tomorrow.

I think I'll take it easy, today.

Quiet day here. So far, I've mostly spent it reading Bible trying to catch up on days I missed for my Bible in a year. Then did some study for 1:00 p.m. Bible study today. The teacher is so good and makes everything very interesting.

I finally got a good night's sleep last night which makes today seem much brighter! I started to the basement to get a gallon jar then remember I had a list of stuff to bring up. Grabbed the list, got the stuff and came back upstairs without the jar. Back down again! I'd say senior brain, but this sort of thing has always happened with my brain. I figured the corn flour had been frozen in the garage long enough and brought it in and put it in a gallon jar.

I have two or more meals of leftovers then will need to cook again. Somewhere in the freezer is stew meat so that's what I'll do if I can find the meat. Small packages have a way of disappearing.

Busy week. Factory reset my tablet Sunday. Forgot to save my recipes, and finding them again is not easy. Had to go find my password for the forum.

We got 8 inches of snow/ice Sunday. It is still rock hard. Pristine white. DH drove truck on part of driveway today. County road was snow ice yesterday. Highways were clear. Suspect it will be another couple days before we can get out. Power remains on.

My biggest client just got bought out. Last day to work for them is end of Feb. Had been looking at another client but didn't want to do both and didn't want to give up income during a month of training. Love how God works. The end of the one and the start of the other mesh perfectly.

In the meantime I am just working all I can. Too cold to do anything else. 48 hours this week. Will certainly be glad when spring comes and I can cut back.

While we were in KC one of the young kids found arm warmers at the thrift store. I thought of them when my arms kept getting cold on my metal desk. I took a pair of DHs softball socks and cut off the feet. The result is a perfect fit. I will be making myself some more of them.

Some local kids cut slabs of snow ice, stacked them like lumber and made a snowman. Creative and cute.

It's really been a slow day. Bladder issue isn't any worse, but I've also had a headache. I didn't get anything done. Thank God for homemade freezer meals. I pulled one of those from the freezer, and that's what we had for supper. I just finished cleaning up the dishes and kitchen. Cary helped with the dishes.

Another blast of artic air is supposed to hit us on Friday, Friday night, and Saturday. Mid 20's for the highs and single digits at night with the wind chills below 0. A light dusting of snow is possible. Nothing to get excited about, even for us down here.

We still have lots of ice on the ground from last weekend's winter storm. We reached 40* for a few couple of hours the last 2 days and should again today. Then it's back in the deep freeze till Monday. Next week looks to be much better.

Neither of our kids can get out to work. Our daughter and son in law got the truck out yesterday and did a Walmart run for things they were low on. The car is stuck in the yard. They got home before things started freezing again but still had trouble getting home the last little bit. The main state highway is mostly clear, but the one that goes to their road is still ice covered. Our son has the same situation at his house. One vehicle can get out with difficulty in 4 wheel drive. All 4 work for Tyson but not all at the same plant. In the past, Tyson did not give out points for missing work because of winter weather and bad roads. This time they are, and this storm is the worst we have had in years. I don't know what they are thinking. Schools have been closed all week because of the road conditions. They probably won't open tomorrow either. But Tyson expects people to get kids out in dangerous situations or leave them home alone. Normally our daughter only works 4 days a week. Thursday is usually her last work day of the week. But they are running production Friday and Saturday now. Those days will not get out of the low 20s for highs. I hate the kids to be out going to a the other grandparents on Friday. They will be going home at about 10:30 p.m. when it is going to be dangerously cold. And we may get a little more snow. The road crews are working round the clock, but the ice is a bear. Tyson maybe looking for a lot of new workers because they point out in this storm. Our daughter can only have 6 at her plant. She went into it with 2 already from having the flu. Tyson now gives 1/2 a point a day even with a dr note saying not to come back for 3 days. I don't know what they are going to do. I guess to will get off my corporate rant.

The local news said the postal service has temporarily suspended mail delivery in Arkansas. The roads are just too bad. We got mail yesterday and happened to see our mail lady at our box just before 10. Our mail usually doesn't run till after 1:00 She was only doing the main road and had to get out at each box because of the snow and ice plowed in front of the boxes. This was before the suspension was announced. We picked up a package from the post office and the parking lot was a sheet of ice. Nothing had been done to it at all.

We went to town because I had a dr appointment. Our drive and the drive to the main highway was the worse. Our drive is 1/2 long with 2 hills that get little sun. So far we can get back up it in 4 wheel drive. We put 300 pounds of salt and ice melt on the hills. That is helping . We can see some gravel in some spots. My dr visit went ok. My blood pressure and heart rate was up. I am not sure why. Maybe my back pain plays a part of that. My ears both have fluid. The one that is worse has a small hole in the eardrum. She gave me some ear drops to put in that ear. She wants the drops to get behind the ear drum so the little hole actually works to our befit. She also gave me a steroid shot for my ear and 5 pills of steroid to start on Friday. She said it may help my sciatica too and it has. She xrayed my back and only saw arthritis. The was some narrowing between vertebra in one spot, but no degenerative issues. She gave me a muscle relaxer to try. And I am going to start some exercises for back pain. I have a brochure that was given to hubby several years ago from a dr or physical therapist early in his back pain journey. I am to call the dr if my blood pressure does not come down. It is down some this morning. But needs to come down some more. My head feels much better today since it is down some.

We stopped in Kroger while in town. They were out of some of the sale items I wanted. They hadn't received a truck since last Friday. One had just arrived and they were unloading it. Lots of things were low or completely out. Meat was low, but there was meat. Milk was out. Eggs low, little bread, soda low, and crackers. We weren't needing anything but the sale items. I got what they had. They had no sale tags up. I asked about the sale items; if they were on sale. He said it was in the computer if it was on sale but the tags were stuck in Memphis. There were a lot of shoppers, but carts weren't full. A lot of the parking lot had been cleared but not all. The piles of snow and ice will take a while to melt. Some are quite big.

I am not sure what we are doing today. I may bake some cookies. And I want to work on taxes more. I am almost done. But we still need some items that are coming in the mail.

There are more and more reports of commercial chicken houses, commercial greenhouses, and peoples barns, carports, awnings, and sheds for animals, collapsing from the weight of the snow and sleet. I was surprised they are still coming down. We have had 2 days of some melting that should have removed some weight. My friends hay barn collapsed yesterday. She was near it but not inside, thank God. Their tractor was in it. They can't get to the hay to feed and don't have a tractor to move it with. Farm insurance has gone way up. I hope they still had insurance. I know we considered dropping our barn insurance. We did lower coverage but kept them insured. So far ours are holding up.

Stay safe and warm everyone. Have a blessed weekend.

Doctor visit, today. While in town, I want to look for a thermal insulated curtain to go over the door from the kitchen into the laundry room. It's just a wide open doorway right now, and we no longer want to keep that room heated. Really, the room is just an extension of my kitchen. I have an electric space heater in the laundry room to use when I'm doing laundry, and my wood stove is in there, too. Unless it's really cold, or the power goes out, we don't use the wood stove much. It will be one less area we have to keep heated. I also want to stop in at Home Goods for another Hexclad skillet. I love the one I have, but would like to get a deeper one.

Mexican restaurant is on the menu for tonight.

Bladder issue is better, but my left thumb is stiff and swollen this morning. Still have an ongoing headache.

Overcast and 12 degrees. On the bright side, sunset is closer to 5:30 pm. That helps me on days that I'm running errands. I try to be back in my town before it's fully dark. There are deep potholes and other road dangers farther out that won't be fixed until it's warmer.

The streets in my immediate area also need some TLC, but I'm unlikely to blow a tire from hitting a jagged hole, so I will still go to the library, church, or downtown after dark.

Sorting projects continue. I turned down a second job away from home because I'm starting to get some energy back and with the flu/colds (with that heavy cough) still going around, I'd rather have health and energy than get sick and have to spend the next six weeks trying to get over crud. The money isn't worth it (and it's not that much). I hope that doesn't turn out to be a bad decision, but I'm cutting in other areas. I also didn't join a gym. I'm finding free alternatives, plus I'm making myself meet step quotas, as long as the roads are clear and I can get to a mall or similar indoor area.

Wishing better health for those who are ill!

We are hanging in ...the our area has been blessed to have electric, phone, and sat tv...we have about 4 inches of snow on the ground but about 3 inches of sleet and freezing rain on top of the snow... .we got above freezing for about an hour a couple of days ago..so with these insane temperatures the whole mess is one frozen clump..it got down to 4 last night ...they were calling for 1 so we see 4 as a win :-)
The roads are in wonderful shape...but we are on one of the mainers side country roads..so the less used roads could still be treacherous...schools have remained closed ..and lots of churches and other things also..other things late..

The county most generally just uses dump trucks to plow...but we had guys in pickup trucks work our road...with sand spreaders on the back..we think the big plows were on the main thru roads and the hired contact trucks for the others..

DH used the loader on the tractor on our driveway and got a lot of the mess off of it..but it is still has frozen clumps...here no mail unless you clean the mess away from the front of the mail box...they don't get out to put it in the box..he got ours cleaned out..but no delivery until yesterday..
Got an email last night Amazon is delaying a delivery until the 31st..was due on Tuesday..

We got out in the truck yesterday..DH had moved but the truck and the Rav4 out away from the house ...and away from any trees..just in case limbs came down...none did ...so today he will free the Rav4..they were incased in ice..

DH did a run to the nearest station and filled a couple of ouf 20 lb propane tanks..we have several but trying to keep filled up... we are using the buddy heaters in the well house and kitchen to keep water good..DH is up early before dawn ..and the water is trying to "get stiff" so he runs it until the well pump kicks on and the pressure comes back..this crazy unusual cold for here..and plumping is not done to single digits...we do fine with the teens which is normal crazy cold...but this is crazy nuts cold..single digits again to night..

We got out yesterday afternoon.. went first to Walmart..and on the way back Food Lion...they are both within ten miles on main divided highway...both stores had huge holes...somethings were out before the storm and still out..grabbed some fresh stuff to make a pot if chili...and the stuff to make a sausage quiche casserole..more bird seed, plenty of blackup cat food in case the stores run out and a few other things but were able to get the stuff we were after..we had to use 4 wheel drive on our driveway even with all the clearing DH did..

We may/will/who knows?..the weathermen don't have clue.. have a dusting to a major snow again this weekend..the forecasts are changing from minute to minute..if anything falls not a flake will melt..but they agree it will be snow..not ice...so we are ready for another round ..then go back in deep freeze again..it warms up a little to snow...they do say the coast will have huge winds..
We will be windy..with strong gusts..we are inland near the mountains..

We have barn cats..and they are hanging near the house..we have one of those smaller dog igloos...has straw in it and the opening faces away from the wind..they all now pile in a big clump in it and staying out of the wind and warm and we are feeding them near it and keeping unfrozen water by it...they have abandoned the barn for the igloo...
Our little 10 lb rescue dog is totally confused by the white frozen yard..

I got good news from my doctor, today. No disease progression, so no injection. I got in to see her early, since she had so many cancellations from the ice storm. She has patients that come as far away as Memphis. Really, all over north MS. She lives in the northern suburbs of Tupelo, and even she was without power for a while. There are still a lot of roads and parts of the interstate going north towards Memphis that are still closed from ice and debris.

Anyway, I did manage to go to Home Goods to get my skillets. I bought a larger one than I already have and one smaller. I also bought a cast iron enameled pot with lid in a size that I needed. It has a metal knob on the lid, so I can bake bread in the oven with it. It will make a hard crusty bread on the outside, but soft and moist on the inside. My eyes were still dilated and my head was still hurting, so we didn't look for the curtain this time around. Cary has a check up Feb.2, so we'll look then.

Glad to be back home. No where over the weekend. I'm glad, too, because we're getting another artic blast down here over the weekend starting tomorrow. Snow flurries possible.

Sounds like everybody is coping okay. Son got called into work he wasn't supposed to go in until the morning. He just left. There are no personnel to staff the one station so he will be by himself for the first 12 hours. If they get a call there fire will meet him and one of the other rigs if possible.

Our mail ran again on the main road. There was a lot of melting today. But we go back in the deep freeze for the weekend. We took some rock salt and ice melt to our daughter's. She and her dad spread it on their driveway. Our son in law went to work today. And they got the car out to a better place. Our daughter is going to try to take the truck to work in the morning. We are going to stay with the kids tomorrow and Saturday if she can get to work. Their dad leaves a little after one and our daughter gets home about 4.

I, too require good arch support. Mine came with two different insoles and removable heel cups. They have a wide toe box and are very comfortable. I like them as well or better than many of the expensive prescription orthotic shoes I have had in the past.
I discovered Crocs few years back. They work well for my feet and my back. Feet don't sweat as much. Lots of dew in the AM here and they're rubber ro they dry off quick.

YMMV
