High of 41 today!! Pipes and stove good, we got a full night sleep, it was lovely!
Coal run, bake bread, burn trash, etc. Return heater to friend and drop off bread to them both.
Temps are going up. I know we're not done with winter yet but going to enjoy.
Let stove go out, clean and reload. Son made us dinner last night, tater tots and chicken strips. Yummy
Some of the dogs can go out too.

72 for our high, today. Rain overnight, then highs in the 60's the rest of the week. I hope we don't have any more really cold weather. I told Cary this morning that I was ready to get outside and get to work. I know that it's still a bit early for work in the gardens, though. I do need to start cleaning out flower beds and fertilizing azaleas and Hosta. I'll wait, until it's warm enough to be outside without a coat.

Doctor visit went well. It is bursitis in my hip. He examined it really good, but didn't make x-rays. He's leaving that up to my rheumatologist if he feels they are needed. He told me to keep up the exercises for it, give it plenty of rest, and he wrote me a prescription for an anti-inflammatory med, but not a steroid. He wants me to take the new med for a while to see if it was going to heal it up. If not, I am to call my rheumatologist for an early appointment with him. He thinks I might need a steroid injection if the new med doesn't work. Only my rheumatologist gives those injections. I sure hope the meds work, because those injections really are painful. BTDT.

He was still pleased with my weight loss. I had lost 4 more pounds, so I'm continuing with my eating plan. Blood work looked good. BP was good. Just keep eating good, exercise, continue taking all my vitamins and supplements, and my low dose BP med. I don't have another appt. with him for 6 months.

Laundry is going right now. I'm going to make up a batch of boneless pork chops to bake in the oven, tonight. I'll marinate them in the fridge all day. Don't know what will go with those, yet. We both love pork chops fixed this way, instead of frying them Southern style.

Congrats on the weight loss, SB!

It's upper 30s with angry-looking skies. I did some errands and about half of my steps. I didn't like the way the sky looked and came home. I'm not seeing warnings on the local weather channel, but I'm going to work at home for awhile. There's a high pressure system moving in, so there's the potential for some wild weather. My ears are popping and the winter birds are sheltering, which are additional bad signs.

73 deg. Snow is almost gone. One bad patch of ice along front door. Hoping that disappears today. Looks like rain Saturday. We were going to move stuff out of house but will probably work on painting if it does rain.

Stepped out for a minute of fresh air. Headed back to work.

It's clearing out here. But I did the right thing to come home. That looked like a bad thunder/snowstorm coming in. I didn't want to be driving in the middle of something like that.

Iowa has had blizzards that seemed to occur out of nowhere. That's why I stay weather-aware when I'm out. A sudden whiteout on the prairie is no joke!

I-80 pileup in Eastern Iowa (not today! but a similar-looking day)

74 today, cooling down in a day or so to the 60's.

We ordered one of those under the desk exercise "bikes". Coming today. The motion of peddling is very helpful to the knees, builds up the glutes. Our knees hurt.

Feeling pretty good today, tire easily, but recovery is pretty quick, hope it holds up

A windy day today. Currently 36º/feels like 19º. I literally did not leave the house today. Neighbor came over for a cup of tea and picked up my mail on the way. Got the kitchen cleaned up and restocked after a trip to my basement pantry.

My acorn squash last night was delicious. I typically use butter and brown sugar, but I used butter and real maple syrup and wow the difference! Really delicious.

I spent the afternoon reading. I finished one book and am halfway through a second. Bible study was canceled as one lady is in ICU and two others there with her. Still current on year through the Bible reading but just realized I forgot to do therapy. Still time to correct that though.

Eye doctor's office called and suggested I consult specialist about having cataract removed rather than trying a new lens. I now have an April appointment with Wolfe Eye Clinic. It's been around 8 years since I had the first eye done. Hope this one goes as well. Also, hope April is long enough to get through the bad weather as I hate having to cancel appointments with specialists as they can get very cranky about that.

Did a house clean last night for some extra $$ after working regular job and therapy. Tomorrow is the big day. I have to be at dentist #1 at 0800, extractions around 1030, then back to dentist #1 at around 4 pm (hopefully sooner than that. I really dont' want to be in Denver for that long).

I'll try to post Thursday and let y'all know how it went. At least my typing is clear, even if my speech won't be!

Rain with a bit of thunder this morning. Temp will be 61 for our high and 35 for our low. We'll need a fire, tonight. Cary needs to clean the heater out, anyway, so he'll be ready to strike it up, tonight. We have our little propane wall unit going right now just to keep the dampness and chill out.

2 loads of laundry already done. One is folded and put away. The other is in the dryer. I changed bedsheets this morning. Those are what's drying, now.

Cary is making a run into small town, today. There was a problem with filling my new prescription. Our mail order prescription service will only fill a 90 days worth at a time. My PCP only wrote the new RX for 30 days worth. Cary called his office, and he called in the RX to Walmart, so Cary has to go pick it up. Meloxicam is the new RX. He has other business in town, too. I'm going to sit this trip out.

I was going to bake bread, today, but thought better of it. I still have milk and cornmeal in storage that hasn't been used much, since I started baking bread. The milk and cornmeal needs to be put back in regular rotation, so it's going to be cornbread for awhile. I still have 2 loaves of homemade bread in the freezer, though.

Leftover pork chops with pinto beans and mac and cheese, tonight. I'm already trying to think of what I want to make tomorrow night, so I can thaw out any meat that I need in the fridge. Decisions, Decisions, LOL.

Softener guys were out. Pipe is froze. They will come back in day or two and cut it and run it into sewer pipe.
Bottom step in basement is broke. Trying to fix that.
God willing I think the big stuff is done, now it's just small stuff.
The kitchen pipe kit I bought is not even remotely close. I'll have to return it and see what else I can find.
Will need to get hay and coal today or tomorrow. Yard is frozen everywhere. One of my ice cleats broke.

I'm chuckling to myself right now.

I talk to God and Scot every day about helping us and how to get this stuff done.
Two days it will be 39 and then up in 40s and 50s!

Judy I'll take 70!
That was my first reaction, too! But then I realized, as wonderful as it would feel, id be freaking out the whole time about it ruining the syrup season and all the fruit trees and bushes breaking dormancy too early.

Several years back, the snowdrops in our big front lawn on the farm were blooming by February 10th, and some early species crocuses bloomed on Valentines Day. We didn't have ANY fruit that year...

Got some water purification tablets that were on sale. I have like 5 ways to purify water, so that is a good thing.

Had a coupon for 15% off Ollies, so stopped in on Monday. Got some food for the food pantry, but also bought some bar soap for storage. It is getting difficult to find bar soap nowadays. Also got birthday presents for my grandkids, though their birthdays are not until April.

My order from Thrivalist arrived. Bought the February pack of the smaller cans of freeze dried foods. Glad someone is back to doing that. I used to buy the monthly packs from Thrive before and have a nice collection of the smaller cans of freeze dried ingredients for my long term pantry.

Bought some celery today. Already have carrots and onions, so ready to make my chicken stock from the frozen carcasses. Time to restock the supply from all of my recent soup making.

Laundry all caught up. Car gassed up. No shopping to do. Have everything for Valentine's Day dinner. Time to just chill out.

So I'm in the middle of a combination deep clean and purge and unearthed jars of beans I stashed back during the pandemic. What's note worthy is jars of dried beans marked "heated" - contents tossed into the oven for a few minuets probably at 350 degrees, had no grit on the bottom indicative of insect activity. Other unmarked jars had grit. The heating process also seems to have worked well with jars of rice. YMMV

I'm very concerned about the fruit! We've got 50s and even a 60 degree day coming up, and the days are starting to get longer.

Apples and strawberries are coming from who-knows-where. If they are okay, I'm going to buy some and get the dehydrator going.

I used to get mine from a CSA. Most of their stuff was organic. Problem was they couldn't find an organic solution for some of the fungus that hit their apple crops. In a pinch I went to local commercial orchards and picked up bushels of their seconds at a steal.

I'd be curious how the they compared cooked, at the same temperature and time, in taste and texture.

Got home yesterday from hospital but feel like crap. I had a reaction to an antibiotic I was being given thanks to an infiltrated IV. My right arm and hand were swollen to about double in size and my left to about 1.5 times. My eyes were also very swollen. I felt like crap so mostly slept last evening/night and much of today. My swelling has gone down by about half and is improving. slowly.

At least there are fewer disturbances trying to sleep at home although I wish I had something for pain.

I received a unit of blood Monday since my hemoglobin test came back at 6.8. Although still quite week, the blood transfusion helped.

I feel nap time coming on.

For anyone with fruit trees or bushes, and snow on the ground (or leftover in piles in shady areas), piling a foot or two around the root area can delay them breaking dormancy by 2 weeks or more. This early, it should give them a chance to stay asleep until the next arctic blast hits!

If it stays warm almost anywhere north of Tennessee, God help us all. It could be a tough year.

@feralferret, some warm packs or even a heating pad to your arms will help decrease the swelling. @Meemur - growing poppies is not illegal, but 'processing' them is. That being said, they are a very pretty flower and useful in baking (and other things!)

I finally got back home about 5:30 (we left at 0600 this morning). It's been a really long day. So far, so good but I think I will not be going into work tomorrow, and i may ask DH to drive me to therapy. I'm hoping I am somewhat back to normal (boy is THAT a stretch!!) by Monday, although I will have to stick with a soft diet for much longer.

All things considered, maybe we should all stock up on fruit.
